Linksys WRT330N with Intel Wifi 5100 AGN causing signal drops.

I have been using my Linksys WRT330N for quite a while, and it has been wonderful.  I have 3 pcs, 2 wired and 1 wireless.  The wireless laptop died and was replaced.  The replacement is causing problems and I need assistance finding a solution.  The new laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1545 and it has an Intel Wifi Wireless AGN internal wireless adapter.  My two wired pc's can surf the net without the slightest hicup until the wireless laptop with its wireless N card gets into the action.  Once the laptop gets on, the hicups are frequent.

As you can see the signal drops show as the router resetting.  It was not me unplugging it.  The router as the only firmware which is available, v1.00.4 and the network drivers for the laptop's wireless wifi 5100 card are up to date.  A Dell technitian controlled my laptop and did it himself.
Any suggestions?

  • WRT110 with Intel WIFI Link 5100

I have just bought a Dell laptop with a Intel WIFI Link 5100 Wireless-n Mini Card. Went and bought a Linksys WRT110 Wireless N router. It worked fine for a couple of weeks now, it's losing connection all the time. I have a Dell PC that is also connected to the router and I have a connection but it's wired not wireless. Any ideas will be helpful?

    Try this :-
    Download Firmware 2.77 MB...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
If your Internet Service Providor is Cable follow this link
If your Internet Service Providor is DSL follow this link
    Adjust Wireless Settings -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
If you keep loosing the wireless signals, then you should download and upgdate the drivers for your wireless adapter...

  • Creating Wireless AP with Intel WiFi Link 1000

On Windows I can use either Intel's native My WiFi Technology or Connectify to share my laptop's internet connection to my Android phone (no ad-hoc) so hardware wouldn't be much of a problem. On Arch I wanted to try equivalents like hostapd.

So according to instruction I would have not much hope. Do I need specific drivers (as I'm using the "default" installation out of the box), packages or other tweaks to get it supported?

No, unfortunately the support for "master" (=AP) mode in the Linux module you are using was dropped by Intel some time last year. Otherwise it would be listed in the available interface modes.

  • GX620 Intel WiFi 5100

I always experiencing this problem whenever my download reaches 400+kbps my Internet Connection will be Disconnected and then appear as "Limited Connectivity" or "No Internet Connection" but still connected to the WiFi, I tried reinstalling the Driver it still happening

  • Intel 5100 AGN replacement with an Intel 5300 AGN

I have an Intel WiFi 5100 and I was told to purchase a 5300 card as a replacement.  The laptop starts, but stops and tells me that there is unregistered hardware trying to start and windows will stop it immediatley.  HOW DO I INSTALL THE NEW DRIVERS for a presplash screen in windows 7?

I have an HP Pavilion DV7-2185dx and the Intel website was the one who directed me to the 5300 saying it was more stable and even though the third antenna connection would be open, the performance would more than make up for the lose of the WiFi extentended distance.  AND just so you know:  This network adapter had been working fine for years and years with little or no issues, then about 6 months ago it started to act up, dropping the signal and just working slowly.  I tried, but was unsucecessful in downloading and installing the up to the minute drivers for this 5100.  And finally, this is the mindblower:  The card works extremely and without fault under the Ubuntu OS.  I switched from W7 to U11 with the dual boot and NO ISSUES!  SO, I believe it is something that MS has done with their many, many updates that come over constantly.  They must have updated something else and screwed up the Intel drivers.  If you look online, you will see hundreds of people with the same or similar issues that remain unresolved since 2011, with the only resolution being the use of a USB Network Key, of which I always had as a backup and troubleshooting device.  So, before you look to chastise me for listening to an Intel tech, perhaps you should read the thousands of angry customers who have had their NIC go bad and HP and Intel have NO **bleep** ANSWER!!!  Some crap, to say the least... PS...As I said the card works WONDERFULLY using UBUNTU 11, so I don't believe it is the card, but rather the software that is controlling it.

    Get a Cisco/Linksys WRT-610N.
    As Small Net Builder says.....
But if you're looking for a reasonably-priced dual-band, dual-radio draft 11n router, the 610N continues the 600N's tradition of being the only viable game in town.
I'm using a Linksys WRT-600N (the previous model) with 4965AGN and 5300AGN cards in various ThinkPads and have been very satisfied with the 802.11n performance.

On old wifi card swich is working correct - orange light is on. On new card light is off and swich is not working.

    Hi
    Maybe you could enable the Wlan card using different way;
Go to device manager -> WLan card properties -> Advanced tab
There you could check if there is a option which would enables the WLan.
    Its worth a try
Otherwise its a compatibility issue like suggested by PinkPanther
I read in different threads that this could happens if there is a different pin assignment on miniPCI WLan card and this could not match with the miniPCI slot on the mobo...

  • Regarding using wwan in T400 with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN

    Hello,
Im interested to use of WWAN in my laptop, My is Thinkpad T400, having with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN.
please guide me with process accesing the simcard slot in laptop.
    Waiting for your reply.
    With Regards
    Santhosh

    Hi,
I believe the SIM card slot is in the battery bay.  Remove the battery to access.
That Intel 5100 is a wifi card, not a wwan card.  Do you also have a wwan card installed, or is that what you are asking about?
Information on both (SIM and wwan card installation) is in the hardware maintenance manual: Hardware Maintenance Manual - T400 & R400

  • MSI GX640 Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN dropping connection every ~10 minutes

Problem: Getting disconnected every 5-20 minutes. Network card: Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.
Solutions tried: Router restarted? No idea what to do, googling it yielded no viable results, even though I can't say I'm pro at googling. Found no drivers on MSI homepage.
    MSI GX640
    Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN
    Further information:
My MSI GX640 had problems with heating and was sent to be repaired and got its heatzink switched. I started getting disconnects every 10 minutes or so, sometimes less than a minute apart, sometimes up to 20 minutes without a disconnection.
Don't really know what information you might need, so please do tell if something is missing.

Those are not the newest: http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=nbdriver&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1998
You'll get the newest at:  http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/detect.htm - click the check buttom and follow steps. <- These are from 18-10-2010
But yeah you'll might need to change which wireless channels you are on. If you aren't using Wireless connection then you might have to check your LAN card drivers or this can allso be caused by your ISP or bad connection on your internet line.

  • Does W500 Intel WiFi Link 5300 (AGN) talk 802.11n w/ Linksys WRT160N?

The subject line pretty much says it all*. Does anyone have any concrete experience with 802.11n on a newer Thinkpad with the "Intel WiFi Link 5300 (AGN)" card talking to a Linksys WRT160N? With Fedora?

    Hello Joe,
I"m running into a simuliar problem but a bit more generic. I'm using SuSE11.1RC5 which should support this hardware in the kernel. I can see all the accesspoints around me but cannot connect. Even when I set mine to open I don't get any results. I undestand that I'm running a prelease version, but one would think if it can hear, it should be able to connect.
The hardware works fine under Windowz. (W500 with the Intel Link 5300 (AGN))

I am having an issue getting the Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN on my HP Pavilion dv7-1275dx to connect to my wireless router (Zyxel P334WT). It would intermittently connect, then drops off for no apparent reason, and then refuses to connect for days. I contacted HP support and we spent three hours trying to fix the problem, to no avail. Strangely enough, when I stick my Netgear WG111v2 USB wireless adapter into the computer, I am able to connect to my network with no problem. The computer runs Windows Home Vista 64 bit. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Alternative to Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN wireless network card?

I'm finding that my Intel 5100 AGN wireless network card is not performing as well as it used to.  I've tried everything... even drivers are fully up to date.  But I keep losing connection to my wireless router, even though connection strength is between 3-4 bars.  I find that I rarely get dropped if I have 5 bars.  But if it weakens to 3, I get periodically dropped no matter what wireless network I am using.
I want to replace this card with something better, but of course compatible with the HP dv5 (my specific model is dv5t-1000).  Any recommendations?

    Hi, Gary:
What I meant by my statement regarding you having the better of the available cards for your notebook is that, yes, I am sure the Intel 5300 is an improvement over the 5100, but the problem is you can't install the 5300 in your notebook.
The Intel 5300 is not supported (only the cards/part numbers listed in the service manual can be installed) and your notebook wouldn't boot until you removed the card.
You can try a different card listed in the manual if you want.
However, you are limited to the:
    Broadcom 4322 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN module
Broadcom BCM4312 802.11b/g WLAN module (not a wireless N card)
I suppose you can use an external USB adapter but I would get one with an external antenna connected to it, because I would have to believe the 3 antenna wire setup in your notebook has to provide superior reception over a plain USB wireless adapter with an internal antenna as its only antenna.
The antennas go all the way up to the top of your screen.
Did you fiddle around with your network card's advanced settings?  They can be found by clicking on the card in the device manager, clicking on the advanced tab.  make a note of where the settings are now so if something goes buggy, you can change them back.
Here is a guide to the advanced settings you have and the recommended settings for them.
