Linksys WRT54G, iChat & port forwarding...

I changed a lot of the port forwarding settings on my router so that iChat AV would work nicely. Problem is, these commands took up all of the room in the list, and I'm hoping to play around with these settings a little more to get some extra juice out of some online gaming... Can I condense the iChat port forwarding commands into one command, opening all those ports for both instead of just TCP or UDP? Say, from 5060 to 5678, all open for 'both'?
Thanks for your help, in advance. I realise the better solution would be to buy a router that doesn't make me want to throw it out of a window...

Hi rodstrout,
If you do not use Bonjour as you do not have another Mac take out 5297, 5298 and 5353 for the TCP AND UDP settings they have (save four lines)
If not using Jabber delete 5220, 5222 and 5223 on the TCP setting (or change this to 5220-5223 as it is only 4 ports)
Setting UPnP if you have it does change it to a Once only ON/Off setting without any typing of ports.
If you do not have this look for Port Triggering (Special Applications) as this can open the ports in less lines.
Depending how the ports can be listed the main iChat AV ports can be done in one or two lines.
On some it can be:
Trigger port 5678 on UDP to open 5060,5678,16384-16403 (no spaces) on UDP
ON others it is two lines
trigger 5678 on UDP to trigger 5060 on UDP
Trigger 5060 on UDP to trigger 16384-16403 on UDP
In both cases the Login port of 5190 needs to be a TCP trigger to Both protocols (UDP and TCP) but still on port 5190.
The Jabber and Bonjour ports are also added as single ports.

  • WRT54GS v6 - Port Forwarding Field Colors (Yellow vs Green)?

    WRT54GS v6, Firmware 1.52.0
Can anyone explain the color coding for the text field backgrounds under the "Port Forwarding" section?
I have severally seemingly normal port forwarding entries with green backgrounds, and then one entry whose text fields are all backed in yellow.
My assumption is that the 'yellow' entry is not working correctly.

normally there is no colour coding involved in Port Forwarding....may be what you are thinking is correct....

  • WRT54G Delete Port Forwarding Entries

I have a WRT54G v5 with the latest firmware upgrade.
While updating my network I decided to delete old entries from the port forwarding table. Every time I try to delete a port entry or the IP address the error checking routines warn me that a blank entry is out of range then replace it with the old entry. This error check does not depend on the Enable check.
I CAN overwrite the old entries with new and things work OK but I would just like to delete old entries. I have searched the forums here and cannot seem to find anything related to this problem. This is probable trivial since disabling the entry works but I would just like to have the table cleared.
I have NOT reset the router yet although I'm sure that would work.
    Thank you

    Hi,
Have you tried leaving the box with the number "0", instead of leaving it "blank", then save the settings?

if the ports are not getting forwarded , try upgrading / reflashing the router's firmware ..

  • WRT54G v6 Port Forwarding Fails

Replaced a dead WRT54G v1.1 witrh a much newer unused v6, and it works fine, except the same settings for port forwarding, for smtp, port 2525, for pop3, port 995, to my mailserver at static address 192.168.1.104, do not seem to work.
That is, no mail. Outlook says it can see the mailserver, but no response.
A lot of new settings on the v6, not sure what they all are. Like Port Triggering for a forwarded range.  ???
Are there some other settings that need changing, too?  Help!

The only change you need to do is the static IP Address...It should be 192.168.1.20(it should be out of the range of the router's DHCP)...

  • WRT54G V5 Port Forwarding Configuration Loss

    Hi All...
Having a strange issue with my router item listed above. I go into the router and forward a list of about 12 ports for online gaming (in order to improve my NAT to "open"). Everything works fine for about ten minutes and then my NAT goes from Open to Moderate, which presents a whole slew of issues (bans you from certain servers, inhibits the use of voice with certain users on xbox 360 etc etc). A moderate NAT is bad for 360.
So... I go into my router to check that the settings are there and they indeed are and using a diagnostic tool shows the ports are no longer open. So... apparently the linksys box has altered the configuration somehow that is not present in the GUI. If I save the settings again it does not reopen the ports so I am forced to restore the configuration file I created just after making the port forwards for the first time.
So... The box reboots and the ports open back up... until about ten minutes pass and the ports close down once again. So in a nutshell, the configuration of my router is changing on its own and I don't know how to stop it. (Its alive!!!! hahha).
Does anyone out there have any experience with this or the technical knowledge to assist? Linksys tech support and xbox tech support has been..... well.... not so helpful.
Thank you for your time (sorry for the long post!)
    Brad G.

well.....change the MTU settings to 1365 and enable DMZ instead of port forwarding.....ensure that the x-box has a static ip add and dns address....
also, check the firmware on the router...if it is below v 1.01.1 , upgrade the firmware on the router...reset the router and reconfigure then

  • IChat, Port Forwarding Problems, Choppy Audio and Video

Hello everyone. I hope someone can help me... been trying to fix this for a few weeks with no luck.
I have been trying video chat my friend through iChat. This has worked in the past no problem. She has a MacBook and I a MacBook Pro. Just recently, I upgraded her computer to snow leopard (I am already running it)
We are having a problem with the quality of audio and video. She says that she can here and see me fine however on my side the audio is very choppy and the picture is extremely pixelated. This worked fine in the past but now is not working.
I have set a static IP on my computer and have forwarded all the necessary ports for it to work. I have also tried changed the port under iChat's setting to fix it.
Does anyone have any idea what else this could be?

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
At here end she should go to the iChat Preferences > Video section and reduce the Bandwidth setting to 500kbps.
Once you have a stable Chat Open the Connection Doctor (Video menu) at both ends.
Then at one end at a time you should adjust the Setting upwards one step at a time to find out where and at what speed you have issues.
iChat 5 "sees" the Internet Speed you have differently from iChat 4 or earlier.
You are no longer capped (if you have a Fast Connection) to 1.5Mbps.
This may mean the speed differences between you are now in fact greater than they were before.
It seems at this point the mechanism in iChat to cope with this does not cope so well with these larger differences.

  • Port forwarding to different ports on the Linksys WRT54GS.

As you can guess, I have a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router...one of the original 1.0 versions with speedbooster. Behind this router I have my standard set of machines with dedicated IP's and a set number of IP's for additional devices to acquire IP leases dynamically via DHCP should I bring them home. One of these machines with a dedicated IP is my Debian file server. This machine is headless and without keyboard. It just sits in the corner of a room and hums along. I use SSH to remote into the device to perform maintenance, shutdown, restart, etc.
My question is this. I would like to know if the WRT54GS can be configured with "unassigned" WAN facing ports (such as 7468) to forward to "assigned" ports such as 22 which is used for SSH. In this way I can leave the default settings for SSH on the Linux machine but have 7468 as the SSH port when connecting from other computers on the Internet. My goal here is to reduce any script kiddies or other malicious code from being able to target the well known port 22.
In the Games & Applications setup you can find port forwarding and port triggering. It appears that you can only forward by port range. See this link. It gives a start and end to the port range. This appears to only forward a range of ports to the destination IP which is not really what I want to do. Do I need a hacked firmware version to accomplish this?

you can set the same port number on the port range...
as for the assigning a specific port for a specific machine, I doubt if it's possible with the a Linksys router...you may need a hacked firmware for this. Or you can DMZ just on the Linux..

  • Port Forwarding for Counter Strike Server - DSL Modem to Linksys Router then to my Laptop (wifi)

    Hi,
i have read many posts here but did not find any solution. Below is my current situation.
Objective: I want to create a Counter Strike 1.6 Server and for that i have to forward port 27015.
Networking Issues: Im currently using a Shiro (Dsl Modem) which is given by my ISP & i have connected my DSL modem to my Linksys WRT54G (ver 7.2) router. I connect my laptop thorugh wifi to router.
I know basic port forwarding but that does not help me. I need a complete tutorial on this issue coz i dont have much network knowledge.
    waiting for reply
    thank you

Try this link to forward port for Counter Strike on the router.

  • WRT54G v5 (v1.02.6 ) Port Forwarding

    Hi guys,
First of all, let me confirm that I've searched almost everywhere regarding my issue here .
I'm trying to setup an openVPN network  to my home network.  In the backend, my computer is set-up as it should, meaning I can establish openvpn connections as long as I'm on my internal network.
To make use of this, when I'm not at home (duh!, what's the point in setting up a VPN when...), I need to forward port 1194 to my internal IP:1194
I have a WRT54G that does it's job as home router, however I do not succeed in setting up the port forwarding
I have set it up as such:
Application    Start   End   Protocol  IP Address       Enable
    openvpn           1194    1194  Both      192.168.1.106    check
I've turned of the firewall, and tried putting 192.168.1.106 in DMZ...but still a no-go.
I know my ISP is blocking ports < 1024, anything above should work however.  (I tested it before with a WRT160N, which did do port forwarding as I would expect, however due to it's own problems, switched back to my WRT54G).
I'm pretty sure I have set-up things as they should.   Does any know a more in depth way of debugging this issue?
    Thanks!
    Hans

When your Computer is behind the Linksys Router and you are trying to access your Office network using VPN? or from the Remote Location you are trying to access your Router using VPN?
The Router which you have it will act like a VPN Client. The Computers which are connected to the Router can Connect to a Remote VPN Server. But if you want to access your Computer from a Remote location using VPN then it will not support.

  • IChat w/ Linksys WRT54G- insufficient bandwidth error

    Hi,
I am having trouble doing a video chat with iChat AV 3.1.5. Everytime I try to connect to a friend (using the same version of iChat) I get an error stating there is insufficient bandwidth. I have a cable modem connected over a linksys router and I am pretty sure my bandwidth meets iChat's requirements.
So far I've disable my Mac OS's firewall, disabled the firewall on my router, enabled upnp, diasbled upnp and port forward the port range I am using for iChat. Nothing has worked.
Any help provided would be greatly appreciated. I am at a loss about what to try next.
    Thanks,
    Lauren

i can not offer you professional support, only a solution (one of many) that solved this particular issue!
i have the very same router, except i don't have the "security enabled" new one. i read and read possible solutions, i tried them all and only one of them worked for me.
** access the administrative page at 192.168.1.1 i believe and log in (default is "admin" and "admin")
go to access restrictions, then look at the "DMZ" menu
change those settings to allow all the ports to accept incomming and outgoing, this also exposes your router to possible attacks. i guess when your done, close those ports from the DMZ menu, use this in conjuction with the ports settings in access restrictions (port forwarding)
this is a very tedious technique, but then again, iChat has some very stupid connection issues. this way may not be the best but it worked for me. if some else has a more permanent solution, please do help the guy.

  • WRT54G v.3 Port Forwarding Reset Problem

I have a Linksys WRT54G and I've had it for well over 3 years. I've been using another Wired router as a DHCP server and only used the wireless router for wireless access.
But recently, I took the wired router away and began using the WRT54G. I set up everything correctly including Port Forwarding, but the strange thing is that whenever I reboot my computer, the port forwarding service stops. If I enable it, disable it or do anything else, it still won't work.
The only way to fix this problem is to 'Reset Factory Settings' every time, but it gets really frustrating doing it every day. Has anyone else had this issue? P.S. - I have the latest firmware.

  • WRT54GS Wireless Router, Port Forwarding, LED Display

Hello everyone.  I'm using a Linksys router on a network like this:
I have comcast cable internet using the motorola cable modem that is supplied by them.  This is connected to my Linksys WRT54GS which is then connected to my desktop PC and laptop as well as a Troy500 print server.
The Troy500 print server is connected to an LED display with a serial cable.  The desktop PC has a logitech webcam on it.
I was able to setup the webcam to be viewed online, I had to use the web configurator in the router to forward ports 8000 and 8080 to the desktop PC which has a local IP address of 192.168.1.2.  This works fine.
My Laptop has an address of 192.168.1.3 and I am able to LOCALLY communicate to the Troy and display items on the LED using the laptop AND my desktop.  BUT when I forward ANY outside port to the Troy to try and get this to work remotely through the router I get a communication error.
Someone suggested that Comcast may be filtering various ports so I tried over 10 different port numbers and still get the same error.
I then tried to get help from a tech guy I know from florida and he was unable to get to the router through the remote management feature, we used port 9000, 7000, and port 9999, nothing worked to get him in.  ALSO he was unable to ping my outside IP.
BUT I am able to get online, and I'm able to see all the devices on the router, AND he's able to see the webcam which is using ports 8000 and 8080 to communicate outside.
    Any suggestions?
Oh, ALSO, nothing on this network is wireless except for the laptop, and this functions just the same when I plug CAT5 into it, it makes no difference.
Message Edited by Matusky on 09-11-2007 02:16 PM

first off , make sure that the router has the latest firmware...on the router ui , under the "security" tab , disable "block anonymous internet request" ... check whether these changes make any difference....

  • RTSP steaming Port Forward (?) problems with 4 (four) WVC54GCA cameras on WRT54G v2 router.

I am having difficulties correctly setting up my four (4) WVC54GCA cameras on a WRT54G v2 router to make them stream RTSP videos that I can view on my BlackBerry Bold. I can access the cameras from the internet, through
    http://CAM1_SubDomain.Linksys-Cam.com/1024
    http://CAM2_SubDomain.Linksys-Cam.com/1025
    http://CAM3_SubDomain.Linksys-Cam.com/1026
    http://CAM4_SubDomain.Linksys-Cam.com/1027
    so that part works fine.
All the 4 cameras are set up with static IP addresses.
The default RTSP port 554 and RTP Data port at 5000 are forwarded to CAM1 IP address. I can access CAM1 RTSP feed on my Blackberry Bold (and also on a good old Samsung SGH-A706 cell phone).
    CAM 1 Settings:
    STATIC IP: 192.168.1.201

RTSP access on cell phone WORKS only with the following format: rtsp://CAM1_SubDomain.Linksys-Cam.com/1111, where 1111 is the access code.
    CAM 2 Settings:

Actually, when I enter the above link, the cellphone brings in the feed from CAM1, I guess due to the identical access code with CAM2. Once I change the access code for CAM2, it doesn’t’t show any feed.

DMZ could probably fix the problem for a second camera, but not for all four CAMs
    OS: XP SP2
Question 1: Any idea how can I get all the four cameras RTSP feed on my cell/BlackBerry?
Question 2: I am running out of Port Range forwards. Should I add more port forwards, I have only one more shot. Any workaround?
Each and every help idea is greatly appreciated!

I have six of these cams and used the tutorial and review at http://www.Myhomserver.com for help.  First thing, set ALL the RTSP access codes the SAME, so all you need to do is increment the port for each cam
Cam 1 - 192.168.1.200 - set at port 80 TCP - RTSP port default at 554, forward port 5000 UDP/TCP and the RTSP access code 12345
Cam 2 - 192.168.1.201 - set at port 1024 TCP - RTSP port at 1029, forward port 5001 UDP/TCP and the RTSP access code 12345
Cam 3 - 192.168.1.202 - set at port 1025 TCP - RTSP port at 1030, forward port 5002 UDP/TCP and the RTSP access code 12345
Cam 4 - 192.168.1.203 - set at port 1026 TCP - RTSP port at 1031, forward port 5003 UDP/TCP and the RTSP access code 12345
Cam 5 - 192.168.1.204 - set at port 1027 TCP - RTSP port at 1032, forward port 5004 UDP/TCP and the RTSP access code 12345
Cam 6 - 192.168.1.205 - set at port 1028 TCP - RTSP port at 1033, forward port 5005 UDP/TCP and the RTSP access code 12345
This worked for me using the above settings....take your time, plan out the ports, all RTSP ports must be different on each cam
Accessing CAMS can be done via your cell phone below:
    Camera 1---> RTSP://<your TZO camera domain>:554/12345
    Camera 2---> RTSP://<your TZO camera domain>:1029/12345
