Linksys WRT54GL - tomato upgrade failed - SOLVED

Hello,
I had a problem with Tomato 1.28. I wanted to upgrade it as the procedure sais ( the procedure in readme.htm file ) Unfortunatelly I saw some error message like "Upgrade are failed" or something like this. Hopefully, when I disconnected router from power and connected it again, it was working I googled a liitle bit and this is what I did.
1. I disabled antyvirus
2. I disabled firewall
3. I changed my IP settings to IP address 192.168.1.10 and Netmask 255.255.255.0
4. I made sure there are no any more IP addresses, no DNS, no Gateway and no alternate IP addressess in Advanced settings.
5. I closed Firefox
6. I opened Opera
8. While the router was connected to power, I pressed "RESET" button and holded it for 30 seconds
9. I logged in. I typed in Opera 192.168.1.1 and provided login/password credentials
10. I selected Administration and upgrade firmware section. I choosed WRT54G_WRT54GL.bin file which was unpacked from Tomato_1_28.7z file
11. I pressed confirmation button. This time everything worked fine.
And what was before....
1. Antyvirus was enabled
2. Firewall was enabled
3. I didn't care for IP settings, i just put 192.168.1.3 , I left gateway and dns IP addresses , maybe even I put alternate IP address in advanced settings
4. I  used Firefox
6. I took a new router from the box and didn't press "RESET" button
9. I logged in. I typed in Firefox 192.168.1.1 and provided login/password credentials
10. I selected Administration and upgrade firmware section. I choosed WRT54G_WRT54GL.bin file which was unpacked from Tomato_1_28.zip file
11. I pressed confirmation button and I saw "Upgrade are failed" or something similar.
I hope it will help someone.

On your computer click on Start - RUN - CMD and click OK... In the Command Prompt window type "ipconfig" and hit enter and note down the IP address and the Default Gateway IP (Default Ip address for the router is 192.168.1.1)... Again in the Command Prompt window type "ping 192.18.1.1" and hit enter and check if you are getting any response from the Router, if not then Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable... and again in the Command Prompt window type "ping 192.168.1.1" and hit enter and if you are getting any response from the Router, then you can try to update the firmware of your Router using the TFTP Utility..
Click on Download 44.3 KB the TFTP Utility.
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Double click the TFTP.exe file and click run.
For Server- Enter the IP Address of the router that you assigned.  By default, the router is 192.168.1.1...
For Password- Enter the password you assigned the router. By default, the router’s password is “admin”.
For File- Click the triple “…” button and browse for the .bin firmware file...
Click Upgrade button to start upgrading.  A progress bar should show up to show the progress.
Once the Upgrade is done press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • WRT54GL firmware upgrade failed

    Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on my WRT54GL v 1.1 from 4.30.2 to 4.30.9 and I keep getting the "Upgrade are failed!" message after a few bars on the upgrade-o-meter.
After I get the msg, the router keeps working exactly as it used to.
I tried with the Linksys upgrade and then with the Tomato 1.07 with the same result (but after fewer bars on the upgrade-o-meter).
I've read the FAQs and I can see nothing specific that I haven't done. I've used my normal Opera browser as the web interface and also IE7.
I'm running Vista Home Premium with all the current patches.
I keep seeing references to a TFTP utility. Would that help?
    Any other suggestions?

Tnx for the reply and sorry for my delay in getting back here.
I have no AntiVirus and only Vista's inbuilt firewall running.
    A couple of things, though:
The first: On the Linksys page for the 'WRT54GL Downloads' it only allows me to specify a "Version 1.0"
    Mine's a v1.1.
The second thing: Trying to use web-based (in IE7 or Opera9.21) upgraders always leads to "Upgrade are failed!" and so does the TFTP procedure, but can I ask what may seem like a dumb question?
What should happen when I press the Reset button on the back of the router?
It clicks very slightly when I press it and hold it in (using a wooden matchstick) but none of the lights on the front change/ flicker/ go out or do anything. It's as though the reset button isn't actually connected to anything.
So, what *should* happen when you press the reset button?
    TIA
    [Edit]
Just to say that my problem's now solved and my router's back to normal again. See separate thread "WRT54GL Reset switch broken?"Message Edited by brianlj on 06-14-200702:37 AM

  • Linksys e4200v2 firmware upgrade fails -bad file

I'm trying to upgrade my frmware to the lastest one (classic firmware)
I've downloaded this file multiple times http://homedownloads.cisco.com/downloads/firmware/1224693043651/FW_E4200_2.0.37.131047.zip
When I try the firmware upgrade (manual upgrade) and select the file, it always complains about the file being corrupt (using the .ssa file in the zip).
How can I solve this issue?
    Kind Regards, Jurgen

Hi, I’ve noticed that all smart routers’ classic firmware starting from E4200 v2 to EA4500 contains .ssa as the file extension. So, the moment you load a firmware with that file extension then the router should automatically read it. What you can do is to use other browsers or better yet use another computer just to isolate the problem.  If that will not work then try the following:
Download the tftp utility (select version 4)
Disconnect the modem from the router and just have the computer connected to the router's ethernet port
Assign a static ip address on your computer
Lower the speed of the computer's LAN card to 10 half duplex
disable any firewall or anti-virus software on your computer
    Run the tftp utiilty

    EDIT: Thanks guys. I did
    pacman -Sc
which fixed the problem. I should've known that from the start, but then again this was the first time I've had problems with upgrades.

Could you please run it as:
    LC_ALL=C pacman -Syu
That will cause the message to be created in English.  Then, go ahead and post the full error message.  Thanks.

  • [SOLVED]Full upgrade fails after new install

    Hello,
Please note before reading that I know about the recent changes with the /lib symlink to /usr/lib and the filesystem (I read the home page).
After a fresh install, I try to upgrade the system :
pacman -Syy && pacman -Syu : it asks for pacman update, I say yes.
pacman -S pacman : fails because of glibc
pacman -S pacman --ignore glibc : fails, won't upgrade because glibc it's a dependency of pacman
pacman -Syu : say no to pacman upgrade, fails because of glibc and filesystem
pacman -Syu --ignore glibc --ignore fliesystem : upgrade almost nothing because most of the packages (~400M) need glibc
I can't upgrade anything at the end...
    Thanks for any help

If either of this steps does not work (e.g. due to dependency version issues, file conflicts in /lib), refer to this G U I D E for more detailed instructions on performing this upgrade.
    Did you read this guide?
There is thread about it also: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=144620
And Allan wrote a blog entry about upgrading from core installation: http://allanmcrae.com/2012/07/updating- … e-install/
BTW as Pres suggested go with the net-install, core installation was always kind of a fallback for me and I had to do this just once because of network troubles. It just doesn't make much sense to do core installation if there is no holdback because with first pacman -Syu you'll end up downloading the same amount of data as if you would do a clean net-install, and it's faster and you probably won't get conflicts accumulated from year or so.

    Hey all
I had a problem printing a pdf on my mac, and then tried to upgrade my mac driver and printer firmware.
But the firmware upgrade failed for some unknown reason. And now the printer just have the ready and attentions lights on constantly.
I have tried to restart and reset the printer many times, and tried the HP firmware upgrade utility several times, with no luck. It just say it was "failed to upgrade"
Any idea what to do ??
My printer is a HP Laserjet Pro CP1025nw
    Thanks
    Jan

    Hello Jan
It definitely sounds like the firmware update failed. Firmware is like a devices Operating System. Without it, it can't do much. This is backed by the "failed" message and that your printer reports it has version 0.
The printer will need to be serviced. Please call HP Phone Support at 1-800-474-6836.
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" to those that help solve your problems.

Any suggestion how I can solve this issue?

“Error writing the file c:\Program Files\Quick Time\QTTask.exe ... Verify that you have access to that directory”
That's consistent with disk/file damage, Markos.
Let's first try running a chkdsk over your C drive. There's instructions and a guided help in the following Microsoft document:
[How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265]
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, are you able to successfully reinstall QuickTime afterwards?

Any ideas, or are we destined to wait for the upgrade patch!?
    Andrew

For what it's worth, I solved my problem.  I went into the preferences for iCloud and unchecked mail and then rechecked it.  Mail then started up just fine.  However, my old messages for a couple pop accounts were not there (icloud and google mail were fine).  So then I tried to import, but in the dialogue box, it didn't show the mail folder or even the library folder (which is normally hidden).  So in finder, using the option + go menu I navigated to the libary folder and made an alias for the missing pop account's mail and put that on the desktop.  Then I went back to mail and selected the alias for the missing pop account mail.  It had no problem importing then, although it did take a while.  Then when I selected import again, for some reason it went right to the correct mail folder within the library folder and I didn't have to make an alias for the other account.  The mail all came in then under the imported category.  For me that's actually ok.  I had one piece of mail I really needed to find, and the search found it right away.  So at least for now, all is well.

  • WRK54G firmware upgrade fails: file pattern error.

When I attempt to upgrade the firmware in my WRK54G router, the upgrade fails with this error message:
    Upgrade action is not finish!!
    Upgrade file pattern error.
The linksys download page says the file size is 1.10 MB.
The size of the file I downloaded (WRK54Gv2_1_00_1) is also 1.10 MB (1,160,036 bytes). So it appears the file was downloaded successfully.
I had no problem upgrading the firmware to version 1.1.
    Please advise.
    Thank you

What is the hardware version of your router? Is it version 1, version 1.1 or version 2? Where did you download the firmware of your router? Is it from the US website.
On the US website you have 3 wrk54g, one is version 1, version 1.1 and v2.

Go to the control panel/network connections and right click on the local area connection.  Click properties and roll down to highlight Internet protocol TCP/IP.  Click the properties button and check "use the following IP address".  Fill in 192.168.1.5 and tab through.  The subnet mask will fill itself out to 255.255.255.0
make the preferred DNS server 192.168.1.1 (the router) and click okay.
If the computer succeeds in getting an IP address (verify this by opening a command window and typing "ipconfig" and seeing what it say under the local area connection), type ping 192.168.1.1 in the same command window and see if the router responds.
If so, you can use the TFTP.exe utility from linksys, available from linksysinfo.org at
    http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=4
Run this program, point it at the router IP 192.168.1.1 and show it the bin file you want to use.  Might be a good time to use the released firmware rather than a beta.  But that is your call.  You can get the latest firmware from the linksys page.
If you are unable to ping the router, try putting the ethernet cable in a different port.  Don't ask me why, but when my router bricked, it would only work on slot 4.  Found this out by accident, but I was able to fix the router when I did this.  If it does not work on any slot, you may be screwed.  Call linksys and ask for a RMA to get a replacement.  I would not tell them you bricked it with a beta firmware!

  • Disconnected iPhone 4S causes Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 router to reboot?

    Hello!
For the past several months, I noticed my old Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 router (using the latest stock firmware) likes to reboot. I think I finally figured out its pattern. I think my house mate's Apple iPhone 4S (iOS 5 [will 6 fix it?]) is making my router reboot. I know he uses the house's wireless Internet to avoid his Verizon's capped, slower 3G Internet connection. It seems like when he goes out and after a few minutes later, my router sometimes will reboot.
That makes no sense. Weird! I never see this problem if he is out of town for days/weeks. I don't know how that is related. Is there something funky with this router and iPhone 4S' wifi? Is it a known issue? Electronics are so weird!
    Thank you in advance.

IT is still the router's problem.
Routers are not expensive. Get a new one.
Or, I think the WRT54 model routers can be re-flashed with the 'Tomato' or the 'dd-wrt' firmware.
Or you could chech if Cisco has its own firmware update for your router.
I did mention I was "using the latest stock firmware". I will see if a third party firmware will help even though it is tricky and easy to brick the router.

  • FW upgrade fails on BEFW11S4

I'm using the Linksys BEFW11S4 (FW: 1.50.14) -- Am trying to upgrade firmware to v1.52.02 (most current level listed on linksys website).  Using the Linksys admin tools (the web UI), I select the administration Tab, then choose the Firmware Upgrade option.  Next I brown to my desktop where the BIN file is located. Once selected, I click on upgrade button.  Progress bar moves about 2 centimetters, then bombs and gives error that upgrade failed.
Any ideas on what is causing this and how I can resolve?  Thanks in advance!

Upgrade the Firmware using the TFTP Utility...
    Download TFTP Utility
Double click the tftp.exe file and click run :
For Server- Enter the IP Address of the router that you assigned.  By default, the router is 192.168.1.1...
For Password- Enter the password you assigned the router. By default, the router’s password is “admin”.
For File- Click the triple “…” button and browse for the .bin firmware file...
Click Upgrade button to start upgrading.  A progress bar should show up to show the progress.
Once the Upgrade is done press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
