Linksys WRT54GS Version 6 Problem

Hello, I have been experiencing a problem when it comes to the Applications & Gaming tab. When I try the Port Range Forward and I enter information on them, it never saves when I click save settings. The Router clams it saved, but whenever I go to the page its not listed there. I used to have a older version of the same router (version 4) and it would always save my data. I did update my present router with the new Firmware Version: v1.52.0, but the problem still continues. Can someone please help me out? Or is this a manufacturing problem?
Thank you!

Yes, I have updated it manually and i have reset the router countless of times. And still neither of those options work for me like my older router v4

  • Linksys Violation Error 0040756D for my Linksys WRT54G Version 3

We are using the Linksys WRT54G, version 3, wireless router and the 2,4 GHz Wireless-G PCI adapter.  Whenever we boot the computer up we get a Linksys access violation error 0040756D that is pointing to a problem wth the WRT54G.  How do I eleminate this issue?

This might be the Error message when you must have configured your linksys router with the Setup disk...So i think you need to uninstall the Linksys software from your Computer and this will solve the problem,,,
Click on Start - Control Pannel - Add Remove Programs and in the List you will find "Linksys Easylink Advisor" select and click on Remove. Once the software is uninstalled from  your Computer Reboot your computer and i think this will eleminate the error message.

  • Linksys WRT54GS Version 6 router help

Hi all! I have a Linksys WRT54GS Version 6 router with Firmware Version: v1.50.6 and I was wondering if anyone could help me find a free log viewer, since the log viewer that comes with the router just gives the last few sites outgoing and incoming, and it doesn't time it either. Anything that will work with my router that will record all day info as well as put the time? I'd also like it (if possible) if it could identify which websites those IP's belong to; sometimes I will put an IP in the address bar and nothing happens or I get an error.
Also, I can't seem to be able to telnet into my router. I put the right IP 192.168.1.1 8080 which is the port that shows under Administration/Management "management port:" 8080. When I telnet (I'm using vista and I installed the telnet client and server) it says connecting and then just sits there for a long time and then asks me to push any key and says connection timed out. I also tried with port 80 and 23, nothing.
    Thanks!

    *BUMP*
I gathered from what I read on the 'net that this particular router pretty much sucks in terms of putting 3rd party firmware, of telnetting into it, etc. So, is it basically true that there is no way to telnet into this? Also, no one knows of any monitoring or log viewer that works with this version?? Please?

  • Linksys wrt54g rebooting problem

Hi all!!! I am Dennis and I live in Hong Kong, I bought the new router (linksys wrt54g) a few days. I have finished all the setup, and I can go to internet freely. However, when I execute the BT client program, the router begin rebooting.
It is make me very confusing, why this router will operate like this. I hope you can solve my problem.
I will wait for your reply!! Thank you very much!!!!
P.S. The router model is wrt54g
    Version is V.7.00.4

Sorry to tell you but there is no fix.  Best bet would be to return it and get a WRT54GL.  This is the Linux version of the WRT54G series.  It has twice the RAM and Flash Memory so it can handle the load.

  • Stop Dropped Wi-Fi on Linksys WRT54G Version 5 & 6 Access Points

Me and my partner have been having a heck of a time with our Macbooks and our Linksys WRT54G V5 router. Mine drops every 5 minutes. His doesn't drop unless we are both using it at the same time. We've tried EVERYTHING short of throwing the router away.
What happened is that Linksys stopped using Linux in their routers (to save cost?) and there are lots of bugs in their proprietary OS.
    See http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=32726
What is the solution? Reflash the router with a Linux based firmware. We did this last night and the network is solid as a rock.
THERE ARE RISKS!!! You could reduce your router to a brick if you interrupt the flash process. Please read all of the information before you decide to do this.

John has a pretty interesting observation. I recently reploaced my older WRT54G v1.1 with a V5 router and started having connectivity problems. I had no clue what was going on, my cable modem would constantly drop its signal, my xbox 360 couldn't hold a valid connection and I had all sorts of problems with my OSX boxes. I read this thread recently and decided to replace the v5 with my older router and hmmmm... suddenly my connection issues aren't issues anymore. (BTW I had recently already replaced my airport preferences so that isn't it)
Its only been a couple of days but it appears that my issues are gone. My next step is to replace my v5 firmware with either the Sveasoft firmware or the DD-WRT firmware and reconnect it.
This could be the solution to my problem, not sure what to say about the rest of you....
    Cheers,

  • LINKSYS WRT54G V5 PROBLEM!! =(

Alright so i recently just bought a Macbook two days ago. Ive been using a linksys router wrt54g v5 router at home for about 2 years now. Ever since I added the Macbook to my wireless network i would be on the internet for about 5-10 minutes and then my WHOLE network would lose internet connection including my (2 PCS that are wired to the router) so can someone please help me with this problem? thank you

Aha, that's the problem: the MacBook was clashing with the router because they were both trying to take the same IP address.
Actually your IP addresses need to end in something in the range 1 to 254, as 0 and 255 have special meanings.
Your other choice is to set the router so that it has a fixed address (like x.x.x.1) but also enable DHCP Server mode. That way, all your other machines can use DHCP Client mode, meaning they get an automatic IP address by asking the router.

  • Linksys WRT54G Connection Problem

I purchased this modem yesterday as i was not able to get my Belkin Pre-N connected so opted to try a different one. The problem is with the desktop, it is hard wired into the router i get IP, Subnet,Gateway and DNS server information but it will not connect to the internet. It's the exact same thing as what the Belkin was doing so i doubt it's a router problem but what do i know. Now if i connect directly to the Linksys Workgroup Switch it works fine. I live in a rural area and wireless with a phone pole and antenna is the only option, so i don't have a modem it's a switch in the house. If i plug directly in the switch all works fine but as soon as i introduce the router nothing works, like i said all info is present but won't connect online. I am having the exact same issue with the wireless laptop as well. Can anyone help?? This is getting so frustrating all i really want is the wireless to work, i can always plug the desktop back in the switch if need be but if i get one or the other working i can use the router straight up. If this helps, when i ping an IP i get results when i ping addresses i get errors which would mean a DNS issue but i'm using the same DNS servers my ISP uses. 2 Modems same problem. Thanks.

First, let me make sure I have this straight:  Your phone company has a wireless device outside on a telephone pole.  The signal from the device on the telephone pole enters your home on a wire.  The wire goes to the Linksys Workgroup 5 port switch.  The switch is connected by wires to two different computers.  You can get onto the internet on both wired computers at the same time.  You would like to have internet on one wired computer and one wireless computer inside your home.  Did I get this right?
If so, then it still sounds like the telephone company has a modem/router outside on the telephone pole.  In this case, you would probably need just a WAP (wireless access point), and not a router, connected to the switch.  As I mentioned before, it might be possible to convert your WRT54G into a WAP, but I am not certain about this.
One more thing.  Doesn't your phone company have a web site with information on how to connect to their system and set up wireless inside your home?  Its hard to believe that you are the first person in your area trying to set up wireless internet inside your home!

  • Linksys WRT54GS anoying Problem

    Hi,
I just bought a WRT54GS wireless router and it has a very annoying problem. To get it to work with my wireless laptop I need to plug into the router and let the software configure the router and my PC to use the wireless feature.
EVERY TIME I reboot my machine, I have to walk downstairs, plugin to the router, let it reconfig everything before I can go about my business. To me, this is way too annoying. Think about it, You reboot your machine, then you have to plugin to the router before you can do anything.
Is their a way where I don't have to keep walking down stairs and going through this hastle every time I reboot?. I would think, I should not have to go through this every time I reboot. I would think that the router would remember the configs.
Any help would be appreciated since this is not a pain in the ass....
    Stan

When you say "let the software configure the router and my PC" what do you really mean?  Are you rerunning the set up?  or ????
Once set-up the router should never have to be reconfigured unless there is a change.  There is really nothing installed on the computer - just the initial set-up program, but you could have done everything via the web interface and not used it at all.
I suspect you have an SSID or channel conflict with a neighbor and by walking down stairs your signal is stronger than theirs and you connect.
    Try this:
    - Change the SSID on your router AND laptop (they have to be the same) - but make them something like your pets name or your last name
    - Change the channel to other than 6 - try 2 - the router only needs to be changed, the laptop will follow
    - Turn on SSID broadcast
    - Set-up the wireless security after the above is working for you.
See the manual for how to do this.
If you are using XP, to make sure you do not automatically connect to other networks - go to the Wireless Networks tab in the network set-up and change the unsecured network so it does not automatically connect (double click the wireless "stair step" icon in the toolbar, highlight the network name (SSID) of the network that is not yours, click properties, select the connection tab, and uncheck the "connect when this network is available", and click OK).  Do the same for your network when it appears, but check the "connect when..." to always connect to your wireless.

  • Linksys WRT54G v5 Problems

  • Imac running Safari Browser with Linksys wrt54gs version 6 wireless router

I am having problems getting the router to work properly I think. I am not sure that I have it connected correctly. This is my situation, I am able to go on the internet with no problems I have Airport extreme built into my mac and it is turned on.I am ale to go to that Ip link that allows you to enter in security information for the router. After I enter in the information such as changing the name and giving myself the wep security choice when I choose save changes then safari comes up saying that I am not connected to the internet. Ok now that is strange and in order for me to be able to go back to that Ip address in the web browser I have to reset the modem over again to be able to go back and enter Admin to access the linksys security settings again. So as it is right now it bothers me that I am a open network I am not secured. I have tried talking to linksys over the phone and nothing seemed to work. we make the necessary changes but then it wont allow to save because then it says that I am not connected to the internet at that point.I have right now the ethernet blue cable going from my Imac to my cable modem right now. I disconnected the linksys until I figure this out. Please if someone who has a built in Airport Extreme on there Imac could help me out with this I would be greatly appreciated.

well....if you have a windows computer I would suggest you to upgrade the router's firmware first...One of my relatives had a similar kind of problem and the issue was resolved by just upgrading the router's firmware

  • WEP not working in Vista Home Premium with Linksys WRT54GS version 5

Bought a new computer with Vista and installed the router. Made it so WEP is enabled. When I try to connect with a laptop or my other computer in my home, it will not take the WEP key and says it can't connect. I've reinstalled and redid the network, still won't work. It works if I don't enable WEP, but I need security. Is this problem fixable or do I need to buy a different router? My second computer has the Wireless PCI adapter WMP54G. This adapter worked perfectly in my last computer. Any help?

Make sure your router has the latest firmware and try using WPA security.  WEP is not that secure any more but something is better then nothing at all.  Make sure your laptop has all the Windiws Updates and the firewall is off.

  • Linksys WRT54G version 8 router setup CD

    Hi,
I lost my set up Cd and I need it to install the program on to my computer. I need to be able to put a password to protect it from others around me using my DSL. How can I get another set-up CD? Please help!

    Hi,
I hope these links would help you setup your router without the setup CD. The first link would guide you through setting up the router with your DSL internet connection. The second link would help you password-protect your wireless network

  • Airport Express as wireless client for Linksys WRT54G (v2)

Hi gang. I've been trying without success for some time to get my new AX configured as a wireless client on my existing network. Here's the particulars:
Linksys WRT54G (version 2, latest firmware), 802.11 b/g, channel 6. MAC filtering is enabled, and the AX's MAC address has been added to the persmissions table. WPA shared key security is enabled. AX is latest firmware, 6.3.
I can access the AX no problem by connecting it via ethernet/cat-5 cable to my router. I see it in the list of connected devices on the Linksys admin page, its IP address, etc. I can configure it, no problem. Except that every time I configure it, it reboots and never joins the wireless network, no matter what I seem to do.
    Here's my normal procedure:
    - Access AirPort Admin Utility
    - Select the AX from the first screen, then click Configure. Up comes the configuration screen.
    - Click on Airport tab.
    - I change Wireless Mode to "Join an Existing Wireless Network (Wireless Client)" and enter my network SSID in the Network Name box.
    - I then click the Wireless Security button, then select "WPA2 Personal", then click "Set Pre-Shared Key" and enter my WPA key, exactly as it appears in the Linksys wireless security page. I save the configuration and the AX reboots.
After that, I wait for half a minute, then the flashing amber (problem/no connectivity) light returns.
I'm completely frustrated with this thing. I've searched some other postings in these forums and on the net and tried some of it but it doesn't work for me. My wireless or network setup is pretty standard stuff, so I don't get why this thing won't join the network. I don't have these problems with any other devices.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!!
    Scott

I am experiencing the exact same problem here... I can set up a new network to this device, but cannot set it up as a client on my existing linksys network. I believe I have followed the procedure precisely yet no dice. The iTunes plays on the new network albeit on a weak signal which cuts out periodically. My thought was to put it on the linksys router with a stronger wireless signal...

  • WRT54G Versions 5/6 with VoIP

Been using a Linksys WRT54G version 5 for sometime but just started using it to transport VoIP (ATA is Linksys PAP2). Unfortunately, every 3-4 minutes especially if on the phone, I will lose wireless and wired internet connectivity (and obviously my phone call). During this time the router's power light blinks for 5-10 seconds, then it recovers and everything works fine. I followed all the tech support suggestions and was already running the latest firmware (v1.09) for this device and still it always does this reset thing. I've reflashed, reset, etc.. several times with the same result. Finally Linksys said I could send it in under warranty coverage.
So I could get back up and running quickly I went to the store and bought a new WRT54G, which is a version 6 of the router. I was shocked to find out it was not an issue with the hardware, as this router (also loaded with v1.09 firmware) has the same problem. I happened to have an old Microsoft MN-500 wireless router in the closet and plugged that in, and it's been up and solid since. I guess unless anyone has any suggestions, I just wanted to let Linksys and everyone else know (as their tech support people don't seem to be able to pass message up the chain) that there is a problem with V1.09 and VoIP. The router seems to be overwhelmed by the VoIP traffic or something and just continously cycles.

I've only had this router for 7 days.  I can just take it back to Office Depot and try another router or even another manufacturer.
I'm also having DHCP problems with this thing out the wazoo, so I'm about at the point of saying to hell with it with this router.

  • How to hook up a Linksys WRT54G to Motorola NVG589. PLEASE HELP!

Hello,  I have recently switched over to AT&T Uverse and I am loving it. One thing I miss is having extra ethernet ports to plug in my desktop computer and my Xbox 360. When the Uverse technician came in, he installed a Motorola NVG589 modem that also has a built in wireless router. He also installed a VAP2500 as a receiver for 2 wireless TV boxes. The VAP2500 plugs into the back of the Motorola NVG589. 3 other TV boxes are plugged into the back as well.  My dilemma is the fact that all of the ports are being taken up. I need at least 2 more ethernet ports free so I can hook up my Xbox 360 (my model doesn't have built in wifi) and my desktop computer as well.  I told the technician this when he installed the system and he told me to go on ebay and buy 2 cheap splitters and split 2 TV boxes that are coming into the NVG589. I did so. It didn't work out. I called up AT&T and the guy over the phone said that was the worst thing I could've done. He told be I should buy an ethernet switch.  I had my Linksys WRT54G (Version 6) router laying around at the time and realized that it had a built in ethernet switch. I want to get this to also function as another Wifi hotspot because I have an old PowerMac G4 downstairs that won't connect to the NVG589 for some reason (it says connection timeout). I am guessing that the wifi card in the system may be too old to connect to the modern NVG589.  So, I need the 2 extra ethernet ports and another Wifi hotspot from this setup. I have tried multiple things to get this to work.  The closest way I could get it to work was when I plugged an ethernet cable from the LAN port on the WRT54G to port on the back of the NVG589. I then plugged the TV box ethernet cable I had to disconnect into the second LAN port on the WRT54G as well as plugging my Xbox 360 into the 3rd LAN port and my computer into the 4th LAN port. This worked great for the TV box and the Xbox 360. However, the computer's ethernet connection ran very slow and the WIfi from the WRT54G was very slow as well. The Wifi from the NVG589 was slow too.  I unhooked that setup and put it back to what it was beforehand.  Is there anyone that knows of a flawless way of setting this up?  Any articles someone can link me to? I've heard of bridging the NVG589...would that help me? How exactly would I do that? Please HELP. I have attached pics. On the back of the NVG589 - green ethernet is the DSL cable, both white ethernet cables along with the black one are TV boxes and the yellow ethernet cable is the VAP 2500.  Thanks!

This will perform a "factory" reset. When the Linksys is fully rebooted, log in to the Linksys. Do not configure the "Internet Connection Type" on the Linksys. Navigate to the "Wireless" section on the Linksys and configure the wireless. Do not use the same SSID (wireless network name) that the NVG589 uses. Save changes. Navigate to the "LAN" configuration on the Linksys and set the routers address to 192.168.1.1 and disable the DHCP Server. Save changes. This step will kick you out of the router. Power down your computer and the Linksys, run an Ethernet cable from a LAN port on the NVG589 to a LAN port on the Linksys, then power up the Linksys, and when it's fully rebooted, power up your computer. You should be good to go at this point. You will want to individually configure your wireless devices to use either the wireless network from the NVG or the wireless network from the Linksys. Otherwise they make keep jumping back and forth between the two, which will degrade performance for that device. You may still notice a slight to moderate performance drop for the wireless on both the NVG and the Linksys because they will be competing for the same wireless airspace along with the VAP2500.
