Linksys WRVS4400N / Netgear SC101T problem ...

Hi!
I recently upgraded from my old WRT54G to the new WRVS4400N. A few weeks before I upgraded I also bought a new NAS (Netgear SC101T, 1 GBit EN, 2 x 500 GB HDDs, mirrored, redundant, different manufacturers) but I found the fast EN (100 MBit) on the WRT54G to be the bottleneck of this setup as my notebook also supports 1 GBit EN.
So, to finally benefit from the GBit-EN I upgraded to the WRVS4400N (firmware version V1.00.12-ETSI). However, I do not get the SC101T to run with the new router?!? Installing the SC101T under Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2 (up to date) with the original software as provided by Netgear was no problem. The NAS connected without any problems and I have been using the NAS quite often since for backups.
However, after upgrading to the WRVS4400N the SC101T is no longer accessible. The status LEDs for power, disks and ethernet signal that everything runs fine. Openening the DHCP Client table on the WRVS4400N shows that the NAS is recognised as:
'Client Host Name: MicroSAN Base[0]
IP: 48.48.48.45 or 48.48.48.48
MAC: 30:30:30:30:30:30'
or
'Client Host Name: Root[1]:52315352
IP: 48.48.48.48
MAC: 02:18:4D:74:43:89'
or
'Client Host Name: 11A4F5D6-0AF4-11
IP: 52.49.70.52
MAC: 02:18:4D:73:874'
(plus seconds that indicate how long this IP address will be valid, a mere 60 sec ...)
I have my WRVS4400N acting as a DHCP server, address is 192.168.2.1, identical to the address I used on the WRT54G. I have about 28 IP addresses left to be assigned by the DHCP server.
Clicking on 'L2 Switch' -> 'Port Settings' shows the NAS to be connected at 1000Mbps Full Duplex, Auto negotiation, flow control activated, max frame 1518.
I am using Agnitum Outpost Firewall, v4.0.1007.7323 (591) but it does not matter whether it is active, inactive or fully deactivated.
Any hints? There are a lot of pictures (=all) of our newborn daughter stored on the NAS, so I do want to be able to access the NAS again ...
Thanks!
Cheers Lars

hi!
Have you tried assigning static IP on your NAS?  Is that the only thing that did not work on the router? Is firmware V1.00.12-ETSI came with the router? (out of the box)
I checked the Linksys website and found out that the latest firmware for WRVS4400N was 1.00.15. If putting a fixed IP on your NAS did not work, maybe you can reset the router and reconfigure or try the latest firmware. I hope it helps.

  • Linksys WRVS4400N V1.1.13 slows down Internet speed by 50%

    Hi,
Recently I upgraded my Internet speed at the ISP from 10Mbps to 25Mbps and the problem is that I am measuring only 15Mbps using speedtest.net.
On the day when the tech came out to install the new DSL modem, he noticed the difference and as part of troubleshooting, he bypassed the Linksys router and voila the net speed measured 25Mbps using speedtest.net.
So, why my Linksys WRVS4400N V1.1.13 acts like a bottleneck in this case? I didn't have this problem at the speed of 10Mbps. The upload speed is OK, it is 5Mbs with or without the DSL modem.
Does someone have any idea how to troubleshoot this problem?

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for the tipp on disabling the IPS, I did it and the speedtest.net test resulted in 21Mbps.
So, it is already a great improvement.
It is interesting though, that on the IPS page of the router, all four protocols were disabled (http, ftp, telnet and rpc), so I am not sure if it was doing anything useful anyway. Am I right?
Since the tech from my ISP was using speedtest.net for testing and did get 25Mbps, I figured that it should work for me too. I am not sure if our ISP has a website for the same purpose.
In order to eliminate any bugs I was considering upgrading the firmware on my router, but I am not sure which firmware I should use, it seems to me that there are two sets of firmwares available for my router one with VPN version 1.xx the other one is VPN ver. 2.xxx
The model# of my router is WRVS4400N v1.1  but I am not sure whether to upgrade to one or the other VPN version is up to me or the VPN version range is already set in my router and I cannot upgrade to 2 from 1 in case I have VPN v1. (How can I tell which version of VPN I have on my router?)
8 hours later I added this text:
I did another test on speedtest.net and at this time I got 24.35Mbps, so you were right, speedtest.net won't give you a reliable speed value if you just run it once and you want to make a decision based on that. (Btw., I contacted our ISP, they don't have a net speed measuring website within their own network.)
So, I am done with the speed problem thanks to your right on target suggestion, but could you please, answer my other two questions:
    - Was the IPS in my router doing anything usefull to me since all 4 protocolls were disabled - until now?
    - About the firmware dilemma.
    Thanks.

  • WRVS4400N / WUSB300N - SSDP problems?

As far as I can tell, this should work - but it doesn't.
I'm using a Linksys WRVS4400N. The 360 is connected to this via a 20 port 10/100 switch (I've also connected it directly). The Vista MCE PC is connected to the network with a Linksys WUSB300N. My main PC is connected directly to the router via cat5, an hdhomerun is connected via the switch, and my stepson's PC also uses a WUSB300N wireless connection.
First things first, what I'm trying to do is move the MCE PC upstairs to the bedroom and use the xbox as a media center extender in the living room. I've disabled the firewall. The devices are on the same subnet (pc = 192.168.1.106 / xbox = 192.168.1.103). Everything else on the PC works. File transfers from the main pc are great, internet connectivity is fine, watching TV from the hdhomerun works ok (not perfect, but I have a few ideas). Also, connecting the PC to the network with cat5 fixes the problem immediately.
When trying to connect the xbox to the wireless PC, neither the xbox or the PC see each other. The xbox DOES appear in the PC's network exlporer. If I try to connect the xbox to the PC via media sharing, the xbox will see the PC eventually if I go to the media blade, connect and leave it sit long enough - but it won't actually establish a connection.Trying to add the xbox as an extender in media center hangs on locating the extender.
This is a fresh install of Vista Home Premium, all updates installed. The PC itself is a Dell 530s (e6420, 2gb, evga 8400gs and two ati theater 550 pro analogue tuners) that I got a great deal on (other PCs, I built).
    rough drawing of the network
    Any ideas?

I'm having similar issues with a WRT350N and the WUSB300N (and trying to use the XBox360 as an extender).  Did you ever get a resolution?

  • Help Please :) LInksys WRVS4400N 802.1X port authentication setup

    HI all,
I am trying to configure 802.1X port authentication on my Linksys WRVS4400N. I created a test lab in order to do this, currently I am using
    1x Linksys WRVS4400N
1x Microsoft Server 2003 with IAS and Active Directory services
1x Dell Laptop (Used for testing Radius Athentication)
I Created 4 VLAN(s) to test with this LAB
    VLAN 1 Managament. Addr Range 192.168.1.0 /24. GW 192.168.1.254
    VLAN 10 Servers. Addr Range 172.16.1.0 /24. GW 172.16.1.254
    VLAN 20 IT. Addr Range 172.16.2.0 /24. GW 172.16.2.254
    VLAN 30 Design. Addr Range 172.16.3.0 /24. GW 172.16.3.254
This is how I assigned my VLAN(s) to my ports. This is found on the VLAN & Port Assignment Screen
Port 1 -> Mode: General -> Frame Type: All -> PVID 1 (Port 1 is used for VLAN 1: Management)
Port 2 -> Mode: General -> Frame Type: All -> PVID 10 (Port 2 is used for VLAN 20: Servers)
Port 3 -> Mode: Access -> Frame Type: All (Port 3 is used for RADIUS. DHCP enabled)
Port 4 -> Mode: Access -> Frame Type: All (Port 4 is used for RADIUS. DHCP enabled)
    VLAN 1: Default
    Port 1: Untagged, Port 2: Tagged, Port(s): 3, 4 & Wireless: Excluded
    VLAN 10: Servers
    Port(s): 1, 3, 4 & Wireless: Excluded. Port 2: Untagged
    VLAN 20: IT
    Port(s): 1, 2: Excluded, Port(s): 3,4 & Wireless: Untagged
    VLAN 30: Design
    Port(s): 1, 2: Excluded, Port(s): 3,4 & Wireless: Untagged
This is how my Radius is setup
    Mode: Enabled
RADIUS IP: 172.16.1.1 (IP of the WIN2K3 Server)
    UDP Port: 1812
    Secret: Password1
    Port(s) 1 & 2: Force Authorized
    Port(s) 3 & 4: Force UnAuthorized
On the Server this is what I have configured
    1. Created a domain: GLAB. Created two groups: IT LAN, Design LAN, then assigned users to those groups. IE: User1 belongs to IT LAN
    2. Created a IAS Remote Access Policy and named it IT LAN. The profile settings are listed below
    Tunnel-Medium-Type: 802
    Tunnel-PVT-Group-ID: 20
    Tunnel-Type: Virtual LAN
My goal is to test RADIUS authentication on ports 3 and 4 on the Linksys WRV . I tested everything else I made sure the VLAN's were working ok so what I did was took a Dell Laptop and joined it to my domain. I pluged the Dell Laptop into port 4 to test Radius Authentication. When I tried to log in as User1 it didn't work.
I am new to setting up 802.1X, I wanted to know if I missed a setting or I misconfigured something. I even ran wireshark on my Windows 2003 machine to see if any RADIUS data is coming from my router (172.16.1.254) and I didn't see anything
If anybody can help me out that would be great!
    Cheers
    Graham

    1. I don't think the WRVS4400N supports RADIUS assigned VLANs. I can't find anything in the manual suggesting it would. I would say you can only use the RADIUS server for authentication on a port but the VLAN must be configured before.
    2. You don't write what is exactly connected to each port on the WRVS. For instance, it is unclear whether the MS Server is connected directly to port 2 or whether it connects to another switch to which you have connected other servers as well.
    3. The VLAN configuration looks very odd to me. If I see it correctly you have:
    Port 1: General mode, PVID 1, 1U
    Port 2: General mode, PVID 10, 1T, 10U
    Port 3: Access mode, PVID ???, 20U, 30U
    Port 4: Access mode, PVID ???, 20U, 30U
I wonder why you are even able to set this up...
    a. Port 1 should be set to Access mode with PVID 1 and 1U. With access mode the port is member of a single VLAN and all traffic is untagged. That is exactly what you have set up, but with General mode.
    b. Port 2 must be connected to a server (or a managed switch). The NIC in the server must be configured for 802.1q tagged frames. On the server NIC you must configure VLAN 1 as tagged VLAN and VLAN 10 as default/native/untagged VLAN. Only then the server is able to communicate on VLAN 1 and VLAN 10.
    c. Port 3&4 are in access mode. In access mode the port can only be member of a single VLAN. What you post suggests that they are member of two VLANs. That should not even be possible to configure. If it is possible, that it is definitively incorrect. You must decide to which VLAN these ports belong to.
    4. To use RADIUS authentication on a port you must set it to "Auto". "Force UnAuthorized" sets it unauthorized, i.a.W. you disable the port completely. To traffic will go through. See the manual: "Force Unauthorized—Controlled port state is set to Force-Unauthorized (discard traffic). All connections are blocked."
    5. Did you verify that your RADIUS server is actually using port 1812? 1645 is also commonly used for radius authentication. Check the configuration on the RADIUS server or check with "netstat -a" to see if 1812 is used.
    6. Also check, whether the RADIUS traffic is sent on the management VLAN 1. The WRVS uses VLAN 1 as management VLAN and it might well be that it expects the RADIUS server to be in the management VLAN. Use the server IP address in VLAN 1 as RADIUS server IP address to check that.
    7. Did you check with wireshark the traffic on the 802.1x client machine? Does it send something out? Does it receive anything?

  • I have the Aiport T-2 and need to access it outside my home for checking my security cameras and can't seem to get it done. With my Linksys I had no problems. Any suggestions?

I have a Airport T-2 and need to access it with my IPhone using Verizon outside the home Wi Fi on my 4S. Any ideas as with the old Linksys it was no problem.

Have you forwarded the required ports?
How are you doing remote access from phone?
The TC is designed to work with BTMM and iCloud but that is not available to the iphone.

  • Use of Netgear SC101t with IQ518a Touchsmart

    G'day
I've just purchased the model indicated in the title of this post, and I was wondering if anyone who owns a touchsmart owns a Netgear SC101t?
The reason I ask is because Z-scan and Netgear have not (and probably will not) gotten to making drivers for Vista 64-bit.
There are apparently work-arounds, such as creating a "virtual machine", but my ability to mess up new computers is to produgious for me to try and do this at this point in time.
So, my question is, has onyone out there managed to get their SC1012t working with a touch

just out of curiosity, what is z-scan? what does it do? and from what I can tell the SC101t is simply network storage...
if your wanting to sync your files that you have on your PC with those on the Network Storage, you can use Microsoft's free download of Sync Toy version 2,  awesome tool for file syncronization...

  • Linksys wrvs4400n problems saving settings

whenever i go to my router site to try and port forward my xbox and put it in the DMZ, and then hit save settings, my router site crashes. I cannot go back to the site because it takes to long to respond and i get a "connection gave out" message. This isn't only when port forwarding, anytime i save settings this happens, and it's very annoying because once i save once i have to reset the router if i want to go change anything at all.
any ideas what could be causing this?

  • New router (switched from Linksys to Netgear 750 - HP J4680 printer all in one - and MAC

My husband puchase a new router - (we were told our old router failed on us) - we had no problems setting up the netgear 750 from the linksys router we originally had - we have a MACBook Pro
My HP printer J4680 - ran beautifully  before the router switch - now will only work when directly connected from MAC to printer.
We have had several people troubleshoot for us -( we live in the country - no IT personnel nearby) - no one can seem to get the connection going between the two devices - I reinstalled the printer - read and reread the troubleshooting manual on both router and printer - and performed all the recommendations listed. The basic setup instructions on the HF printer say that despite the proximity of the printer and the router the signal in only fair and that it appears to have a "security" issue - I turned off the firewall settings on computer - no change in status.
we are contemplating returning the Netgear 750 for another linksys - could someone please tell me how or if we can solve this problem w/o having to return the router?
We purchased this particular router for the MAC compatability - the wireless printer is fairly new <<5yrs old and never had any problems w/it.
IT REALLY APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE I CAN GET!! THANX - maggiemae03815

    Welcome to the forums maggiemae03815
I saw your post about the connection issues you are having with your new router, Mac computer and Officejet J4680. I understand you have done some troubleshooting already however, I have a suggestion or two for you to try.
    On your Mac, try:
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Re-add the printer (do not use the AirPrint driver)
    Test print
Next contact the router company or your internet service provider to check the settings on your new router. There may be a setting that is blocking the connection to your printer:
Network name and password need to have no spaces or punctuation
If using WPA2 security, switch to WPA personal
Dual broadcast Wireless b/g/n (printer will only connect to g)
Mac filter needs to be turned off
Firewall settings need to be at there default settings, or set to a lower security
    Multicasting "on"
Following ports need to be un-blocked:
    Incoming (UDP) ports : 137, 138, 161, 427
    Outgoing (TCP) ports : 137, 139, 427, 9100, 9220, 9500
I hope my post was informational!

  • WRVS4400N and WPC4400N Problems

This is part rant and part problem report.I don't know who's listening, maybe someone who knows more than I do.
Let me preface this by telling you I am a reseller of Linksys products and a Linksys Partner. I have had pretty good experience with the products. I am currently installing several of their products a week. I've been doing IT support for over 12 years. I have configured a lot of routers.
So I think why not treat myself to a top of the line router and test out 802.11N at the same time.
    Here is the setup:
Dell D520 with fresh reload of WinXP SP2
    Linksys WRV4400N
    Linksys WPC4400N
First problem was I installed the card with the CDROM it shipped with. Big mistake. The driver and utility would not connect when WPA was configured. Ok my mistake, always download the latest drivers.
Second problem was my HP2600n that is connected to the router was unable to get print jobs. It was connected on the LAN, could ping but print jobs would fail, more on this later.
Third problem is that my wife could no longer get connected to her corporate VPN over this router. They use a Cisco VPN solution. Yes, VPN passthrough is enabled. Hey it  worked fine on my WRT54G! She has a dell D630 with an Intel Pro 2200 WLAN card. It worked PERFECT with the WRT54G.
Fourth problem is the wireless connection would periodically disconnect.
Fifth problem is that I pulled the WRVS4400N and reinstalled the WRT54G and now the Linksys WPC4400N has a fluctuating signal level. The router is in the next room and with my build in Dell WLAN card the signal stays strong.
Yes, I upgraded the firmware on the router to the latest version.
IN regard to problem number two, it turns out the WRVS4400N uses 192.168.1.3 for the WLAN interface. That was the same IP I had on my printer. OK, now you all know that you need to resever 192.168.1.3 on your LAN if you use a WRVS4400N
IN regard to number three, no amount of tinkering allowed the Cisco VPN client to connect. I changed MTU size, turned off the firewall, added port triggers, you name it. Nothing worked but replacing the router. Now this is just supposed to work. I should not need to be a network engineer to make a WRVS4400N work. VPN's are supposed to pass through!!!
In regard to number 4, periodic dropping of Wireless, connection, I tried going to channel 1, even removing wireless security. Nothing seems to work except revert to the Dell WLAN card. This issue was seen on the WRVS4400N and the WRT54G. Acutally worse on the WRT54G and WPC4400N combination. I also noticed my Dell card was picking up about 10 WLAN's in my neighbor hood and the Linkys only 2.
So there is a special support phone number for partners. I waited for 55 minutes on hold and did not get an answer.
    One Disapointed Linksys Reseller

    ---- quote "cmartell" ----
Fourth problem is the wireless connection would periodically disconnect.
In regard to number 4, periodic dropping of Wireless, connection, I tried going to channel 1, even removing wireless security.
    ---- end quote ----
I have a WPC4400N PCMCIA card, and I am having this same exact problem too. I am using drivers 1.0.2.5, which also carries the designation of "Lite" - what the heck is up with "Lite" anyway? I want the full blown drivers!
Anyway, I can't seem to stay connected for too long, even though my router (ALSO a Linksys product, a WRT350N, with updated Linksys firmware 1.03.7) is only 4 feet away, if that.
My wireless card (the WPC4400N) keeps dropping connection, even if the router is right next to it! And of course, when I had my wireless router all the way across my apartment (roughly 20 feet) it would keep doing the same thing too, kept disconnecting periodically! Any kind of adjustment to driver parameters in my network card settings would just simply not help it at all, and I don't know what the problem is!
    Can anyone please help?
My brother is a CISCO C.C.I.E. (Linksys is owned by Cisco), and I have yet to ask his help, but somehow I doubt even he could help me with this one.
I should not have to change my channel #, nor my security method, in order to keep a connection, especially when it has problems while the PCMCIA network card is being only 3-4 feet away from the router!!

since it seams like you are having an issue with your firmware , you can perform a factory reset by holding in the button in on back of the router for 30 seconds, wait about 2 minutes and try to upgrade to the latest firmware.

  • Linksys SRW248G4 Bandwidth QoS problem

    Hi everyone,
so I bought the SRW248G4 switch because Linksys advertises ingress and egress traffic shaping. I setup everything and tested egress at 10000 kbps which worked fine. But when I setup ingress on any of the ports I get very bad rates that don't even correspond to the limit I set. For example I can set 10000 kbps or 20000 kbps, and I only get 12-20 KB/s transfer rates, which almost below 196 kbps. Does anyone know why this would not be working? Anyone else out there with a similar problem?
    Thanks,

  • Linksys and NetGear Powerline Adapters

I am wanting to improve my powerline adapters and before I purchase I want to make sure if the Linksys Homeplug AV2 Powerline Kit (PLEK500)  and the NetGear Powerline 500Mpbs 4-Port Network Adapter Kit (XAVB5004)  can be used on with WRT610n router? Hi, Cowboybutch. The PLEK500 will work with WRT610N as long as you will connect the adapter to the same circuit breaker. I found an article regarding this adapter that might help you get to know more about this device. • Netgear DG834G Problem connecting iMAC G5

    Hi,
Wondered if anyone could assist me in this.
Netgear Router DG834G / 3 Pcs all set up on Network / added a iMac G5 (Intel/10.4.4) at w/e but with problems - mainly it says it is connected to Netgear but will there is no connection to the internet (when going into Safari).
Stumped by this - I have set TCP/IP address etc ip (192.168.0.5) etc...it is connecting to the Netgear router - but that's as far as it goes.
I have connected via the ethernet cable from the iMac to Netgear DG834G Router - this works fine but knocks off all the other PCs connections. (The connection is still registered (i.e.signal present) but will not log on to any sites etc.
If you can suggest anything it would be much appreciated - I am completely stuck !
    Many Thanks in Advance.

Hughxxx, Welcome to the discussion area!
    ...added a iMac G5 (Intel/10.4.4)...
You do not have an iMac G5. You have an Intel iMac. Those are discussed in the iMac > iMac (Early 2006) > Internet, Networking and your iMac discussion area.
...I have set TCP/IP address etc ip (192.168.0.5)...
Why did you not use DHCP? Try that.
What you are describing is usually a DNS problem. Setting the Network preference to DHCP should solve it. If not see KB 106798, Mac OS: Troubleshooting "A connection failure has occurred", "The specified server could not be found" or Similar Messages.

  • Linksys router + comcast modem problems

Ever since my parents upgraded to digital voice with comast we got this huge modem. Before, my computers connected wirelessly never had a problem. But now, every single day, every single thing I connected to the my router looses connection (Xbox 360, PC, ipod touch). The only way, it seems, I can fix it is if I go to the router settings and "Release" then "renew" the DHCP then I power cycle my router and modem. After I do that, everythings fine for about a day then I have to do the whole thing over again. Anyone have a solution to my problem

Whats the model number of your Router?  As comcast has replaced your modem, what i would suggest you is connect the modem directly to the computer and observe the connection , if you face the same problem then it might be your Modem. If it works fine for a day, then i think you need to upgrade the firmware of your router which you can download from the Linksys website.
Go to website www.linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in search tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Airport Linksys WRT54GX4 WPA TKIP problem-Driving me Crazy!

HELP! Anyone, My Boss bought a new Linksys Router WRT54GX4 and I cannot connect to it through my ibook. The old one(old router) was damaged and I was able to connect to it fine before it was broken. But the new one uses the WPA TKIP encryption, and my ibook cannot connect to it, it sees the network name and gives me severl WEP coices to connect to but no go. the Actual Network is the WPA TKIP, but I have tried severl different combination to connect to it and still nothing. I have tried the passphrase in uppercase and lowercase and nada. But most other PC's have no problem connecting except for my ibook. It sees other hotspots and connects fine. Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I have a 12" iBook 800 Dual USB 32 MB Vram, 640 RAM and Orig Airport Card.

The linksys wrt54gx4 is not quite the same series as the earlier wrt54g routers. The new wrt54gx uses different firmware altogether. This router uses a new technology and employs 3 antenna's where as the earlier wrt54g's had 2 antennas.
It may be that this new technology is not working so well with apple airport cards as I have found the new linksys routers that have 3 antennas to be buggy. I have returned one to a reseller already.
In the wireless security settings of the wrt54gx4 it is possible to have wpa selected but not enabled.
I am not sure if the older airport cards support wpa2. I do know that the latest version airport does support wpa2. But for now try enabling wpa and disabling wpa2 on the linksys box as per this screen shot.
I will be switching to buffalo wifi routers as these new linksys boxes are
    a) buggy
    b) don't support linux
