Linux 3.2 sound plays through HDMI and laptop speakers simultaneously

As topic says, laptop speakers is not muted when activating sound through HDMI. Downgrading to 3.1 solves the problem. The laptop is an Asus UL30a.

I am using Pulse Audio (and KDE). It's all correctly setup, it has been working for several months and it works if I downgrade kernel to 3.1, so it's a regression with the new kernel. Also, if any mods are reading this, maybe thread should be moved since 3.2 is out of testing.
Edit: It's quite weird. If I go to KDE sound settings and change them around a couple of times, after a while it works like it should. There is no consistency in this and I have no idea how to troubleshoot
Edit2: Could this be related? I know it's for Nvidia cards, but in the first comment he mentions hda_intel.chttps://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42567 I should probably have mentioned in the first post that my laptop is all Intel:

  • How to make the notification sounds play through EarPods

The notification sounds/ringer on my iPod touch keeps playing through the external speakers even though I have EarPods plugged in. If I turn on a video of game tho, it will play through the earpods. Is it possible to make the notification sounds play through the EarPods as well?

    Hi Everyone,
Just in case anyone else runs into this problem here is the solution that i've managed to piece together,
I have a movie clip twice the size of the stage, the movie clip is called bg_mc, here is my actionscript...
    bg_mc.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, mouseMoveHandler);
    function mouseMoveHandler(event):void
    var cursorX = stage.stageWidth - mouseX;
    bg_mc.x -= dx / 5;
this action script tells the movieclip to move left and right depending on where the users mouse pointer moves. (it also adds a slight delay to make it look like tweening)
I then published this in Flash using the publish settings shown in the reply above.
Then i went into dreamweaver and removed the margins in the html file
Now the flash file will resize to any screen resolution and will allow the user to move the MC left / right across the screen depending on where the mouse pointer is,
    I hope this is helpful,
    Ben

  • HV20 - sound won't play through firewire to system speakers during import

help please - When playing back captured HD footage on my HV20 via a firewire connected to my Dual 2.5 G5, the sound plays through the mini speaker in the camera, and not the large system monitor speakers connected to my computer. Once the footage is transfered to the computer, the clips then play back fine and the sound seems ok. But Is there anyway to get the sound to play through the computer system speakers druring import - it's difficult to properly monitor the import as the sound from the mini speaker on the camera is way out of sync with the visual displayed on the computer during the playback/import process - thanks for your help.
    William

    Dear SDillini:
Thanks for your reply. I've been editing video on my Mac for some years now with serveral dfifferent cameras attached via firewire and always up until now, on the HV20, been able to monitor the sound from the video tape in the camera through the computers sound system as I was deciding which clips to import and which to leave alone while playing the video in the camera through the firewire to the computer. I'm able to see the video on the computer in real time, but there is no sound except from the small speaker in the camera and it plays out of sync with the image on my computer monitor, making in and out points of capture less precise.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63408.exe
When the Chipset driver reinstallation has completed, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again before checking.

My Iphone4 speaker wont sound play any audio and all it says when i try turning it up is " Ringer" But doesent show the bars the turn up or down. Any help? :/

    Hey Hype.Beast.187,
Here are some troubleshooting steps for not being able to hear sound through your iPhone speakers. I'd pay special attention to steps 8, 9, and 10 in your situation:
    Resolution
Verify that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack, including headsets, headphones, or adapters.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not switched to silent.
While on the Home screen, adjust the volume buttons. If you see the icon below, indicating that headphones are attached, there may be debris or an object lodged in the headset jack:
Check the headset jack. If there is an object lodged in the headset jack that is not easily removed, have the iPhone serviced to remove object.
For Original iPhone: If there is light debris, such as lint, in the headset jack, try connecting a pair of headphones to the headset jack and then remove the headphones. Repeat this several times to remove the debris.
If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
Check the receiver mesh (which is on the top front of the device, above the display). If it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If you have paired with a Bluetooth headset that is nearby, either use the headset or turn Bluetooth off (choose Settings > General > Bluetooth).
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting the iPhone doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring the device.
If the issue persists, go to the Service Answer Center - iPhone for information on service.

  • Skype sounds making my other sounds play through s...

Whenever a skype sound plays, the sound comes through my headphones. However, let's say I'm listening to music at the same time. The skype sound will cause my music to play through the speakers for the duration of the skype sound. Is there a way to make both the sounds play through my headphones?
This isn't how it was on my old headphones. My new headphones are Logitech G230's.
Also, in this image: http://prntscr.com/4adcvz you can see that a sound is playing through the "speakers" while it's actually playing through my headphones. My old headphones had a USB and my new one doesn't, so that might be why.

I had the same problem, go to sound/playback devices accesible from either control pannel or right-clicking the speaker icon in the bottom-right-hand corner.
Then play around with disabling/enabling different devices until it works.
Put on some youtube video or something else that runs for a while, then every time you made a change call Echo/sound testing services

No. You can only use one sound output:
Why can't I select HDMI audio on my Mac mini?
If you connect an HDMI display or television to a Mac mini (Mid 2010 or later), you might not be able to select the HDMI audio device (in System Preferences > Sound > Output). This can happen if you also have headphones plugged in to the computer. Unplug the headphones to be able to select HDMI audio.

  • My Macbook Pro wont play sound through Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter on toshiba television anymore. The sound plays through sony or samsung television, but not toshiba television.

I have a Macbook Pro early 2011 running on mountain lion version 10.8.2. A while back, i purchased a mini display port thru HDMI port so i could watch dvds on my toshiba television. it all worked great for a while, then the sound just stopped working. At first, I thought the mini display port connector must have broke, until I plugged it into a sony television and it worked. I also tried using it through a samsung television and it worked just fine. Why does it not work through the toshiba television anymore? The picture works fine, but the sound does not come thru the television anymore. My mac is set to play sound thru the HDMI port and it doesnt. When i switch it to built in internal speakers, the sound comes thru my mac, but when i switch it, no sound comes out. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thank you!

I am still waiting to receive a response from them, but i dont think they'll be much help. the television still works fine and all of the ports on the back, including both HDMI ports, work perfectly.

  • Sound playing through speakers and Headphones at the same time...

Hi everyone, I have a Toshiba Satellite A215 S5849. It is only about 6 months old. Now whenever I plug my headphones into the headphone jack, sound keeps playing through the speakers and in the headphones at the same time. Also the speakers do always have a crackling sound like they are blown. I have been trying to fix it for awhile now but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello again, sorry that the driver did NOT resolve the issue. What I suggest we try is the Support Assistant. This will do a scan on your entire computer and if the computer does have a issue it will find it and show you how to resolve the issue. • Can I connect imac to HDMI and also Surround sound also through HDMI using the thunderbolt sockets via an adaptor into a HDMI?

I want to be able to connect my imac to my TV and Surround Sound, from what I have read the best want of doing this is both via HDMI. Before I go out and buy another adaptor for a second thunderbolt to HDMI I was wondering if this would work? I basically I want to be able to stream videos from Imac to TV with sound coming through surround sound and also when I am on itunes have the music come through the surround sound. At the moment I have an adaptor (thunderbolt to HDMI) which goes into the TV and a optical cable from TV into the surround sound, then I also have a 3.5mm from the imac to the Surround sound, but I find this lacks in quailty. Would upgrading to a HDMI work and be better ? Should I also look into an optical cable though I dont see how to connect this to the imac?

OK. From what I can tell here, the Sony HT-SF2000 has 3 HDMI inputs & one HDMI output, so the simplest hookup would be to connect the iMac to one of the the Sony's HDMI inputs via the Thunderbolt-HDMI adaptor, & connect the Sony's HDMI output to the TV's HDMI input.
Use the Sony like an HDMI input selector for the TV (plugging in your other HDMI devices, if any, to it). Use the HDMI input on it from the iMac for both movie & iTunes sound output, & for TV output for video. (You can even use the TV as a second screen for the iMac.)
If for some reason you want a separate input for the iMac's sound output, you can use the optical input on the Sony for that, with a TOSLINK cable connection to the iMac. You will need either a Mini-TOSLINK adaptor or a TOSLINK to mini-TOSLINK cable to connect to the audio output of the iMac.

  • Satellite P200 - no sound playing through Panasonic HDTV

Hi, I recently bought a P200 Notebook, and have tried to play HD DVDs through my Panasonic HDTV, connecting from the notebook's HDMI port to the TV's HDMI port with an HDMI lead, and connecting from the headphone socket on the notebook to the two audio sockets on the back of the TV. However, although the image is fine, no sound is coming through the TV.
I think I may be overlooking something incredibly obvious, but has anyone got any suggestions as to why no sound is coming from my TV?
    Thanks!

    I've done it
    Open up Control Panel
Select *<<Sound>>* (Not the Realtek HD Audio Manager)
Under Devices there will be Digital Output Device (HDMI)
Right Click and select *<<Set as Default Device>>*
Hey presto Audio comes blaring out of the TV.
After Disconnecting, it seemed to stay locked to HDMI Audio despite selecting Speakers as the Default output. I had to disabled HDMI and then reenable it after the speakers were being used as the defaulot device again.
This may not be the best solution but it works, so I can finally start watching all my BBC IPlayer downloads.
If anybody has a neater solution that means Audio is automatically switched on connecting and HDMI Monitor please tell me.
