Linux acroread 8.1.2 can't change print command

It won't let me do it and it won't let root do it.
I use cups and don't use lpr

>This (making the print command line un-editable) is really bad idea.
Why? It was much worse before, since people would edit it, but it had
no effect. This is terrible interface design, and surely this is an
improvement.
> add a "expert option"-Button "Make the print command line editable"
Or an option "Give me an editable area that will be ignored". Why?
It could probably be improved so more people understand that if they
want to print with a custom command line, then they need to choose
Custom. Perhaps best of all would be keeping a custom command for each
printer, or an open ended set of commands (so, for example, two custom
commands for one printer could be stored).

  • Adobe Reader 8.1.2 : can not change Printer Command

    Hello all,
I encounter the following problem with Acrobat Reader 8.1.2, installed on Debian GNU/Linux, trying to print :
When I choose a printer (within the list given by a CUPS server) I can not change the Printer Command which prevents me from printing : the default printing options (-o InputSlot -o PageSize ...) are not compliant with my LPRng printing system.
Note that I was able to do it with 7.0.5 and 8.1.1 versions.
Would you please help me to resolve this problem ?
    Regards,
    Jean-Noel BOUVIER

    Hello Jean-Noel,
The print command text box (in the Printer properties dialog) has been made read-only to avoid confusion and discrepancies with the drop-downs available to modify the options.
If you want a particular print command to be used you could try out the Custom printing option. The command typed there is remembered between different sessions of the Reader.
    Hope this helps.
    Sincerely,
    Neha

  • Can't change printer from one account to another

    Hi,
I seem to be stuck between the proverbial rock and a hard place.
    Here's the situation:
    1. My old e-mail account used originally to sign in to the HP eprint center has been deleted by the e-mail provider (MSN). It can't be recreated because MSN will now only allow me to create an e-mail account with @hotmail.com or @outlook.com and not @msn.com.
    2. So, I created a new e-mail address (with @hotmail.com)
    3. I then  used the new e-mail address  to create a new account on the HP eprint center.
    3. I can't add my printer to the new HP eprint center account because it is still associated or linked to the old HP eprint center account that uses the now deleted msn e-mail account.
So, I seem stuck at this point.
How do I either access my old account and replace it's deleted e-mail address with the new one, or how do I switch the printer from the old account to the new account when I can't sign in to the old account to first remove it there?
    Thanks for your help!
    Kobe Zhang

    Hi Kobe Zhang
    Option 1:
Your MSN account might be deleted but the eprintcenter wont be deleted along with it.
You should be still able to login to eprintcenter account using the old msn id and the same old password for eprintcenter account which you used regularly.
If you have forgot the password, i dont know how can you recover it.
If you get a chance to login then you can remove the printer from the old account and then claim it in your new account created usign hotmail ID.
If you are not worried about changing your printers email ID, here is option 2.
One more option is to de register the printer and register it again to cloud to get a new email address which can be used to claim the printer in your new account and then customize your email ID there. But be aware that you might not be able to set the same customised email ID which you have used in your old account.
    Kind Regards,

  • I can't change print sizes in certain folders!

    This is a maddening problem!
I have an HP 8750, which I have no problems with.
I just got a Kodak 5100 printer. The problem is that in certain folders, if I try to change the print size of an image, say Letter to Borderless 4x6, it doesn't stick! In the upper left region, it'll show the new size I selected, but the margins, cell size, image size, etc., don't change.
This only happens in certain folders within the Library! If I move an image from a folder that has the problem into another folder that's working properly, I can resize the images in that folder. If I move it back to the "bad" folder, it won't work again. Likewise, taking an image from a good folder to a bad one makes it so I can't change the size.
This only happens with the 5100 printer. If I switch to the HP, I can set the paper size just fine, even in a "bad" folder. If I switch back to the 5100, it goes back to the size I set before.
It also only happens in Lightroom. If I export the image into Photoshop, it works fine.
I'm thinking this is a bug.

Here's a random sampling of folder names that work and don't work:
    works:
    E:\Digital Photos\Maria2
    E:\Digital Photos\Maria and Lei\Lollipop
    doesn't work:
    E:\Digital Photos\Maria and Lei\Yellow
    E:\Digital Photos\Maria
    E:\Digital Photos\London\fig
    E:\Digital Photos\London\rejects
Notice there are 2 subfolders of E:\Digital Photos\Maria and Lei\, and one works, one doesn't.
Now I haven't systematically checked every file in any particular folder, but if I find that one file in a folder works or doesn't work, every other file I randomly pick so far has also worked or not worked just like the first one.

  • Can't change printer port on Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2

    1. Install "Lexmark X646e Class Driver" using a in-box print driver (i.e. one comes with the Windows installation base) .
    2. Go to "Printer properties" -> "Port"
    3. Select a custom monitor port, and the following error occurs in Event Viewer.
An error occurred while configuring print queue 'Lexmark X646e Class Driver'. Printer driver 'Lexmark X646e Class Driver' may not be used in conjunction with a non-inbox port monitor.
Same steps applied on Windows 8 and Server 2012, and not issues found. The restriction/limitation is newly added in Window 8.1 and Server 2012 R2.
Changing to a custom monitor port after printer driver installation is very important for us.
How can we solve or workaround the above issue, so it can behave like Windows 8 and Server 2012?

What Port Monitor just so I can bubble this information to some others?
    Alan Morris Windows Printing Team
    Hi Alan:
We developed a custom printing system, which involved the following configurations:
    1. Create a custom port monitor on server 2012 r2.
    2. Change an existing print queue to use this custom port monitor, and share this print queue.
    3. All workstations will print to this shared print queue on the server.
The goal is to manage/monitor the print information in StartDocPort for all printing for instance.  This is what we've been doing for a long time.
Now we upgraded our system from server 2012 to server 2012 R2, but we can't change the port monitor to our ones anymore.
I've tried the Type3 printer driver, such as Brother Color Type3 Class Driver, unfortunately it didn't work if the installation is using "Add a printer", and select the driver from the list.
The only way to make it work is to install the printer driver using the one downloaded from the vendor's website, this will bypass Windows "Add a printer".
Is there any chance we can make this to behave like server 2012 or earlier? Modify registry keys?
    Cheers
    Steven

  • Can't change print settings on HP C4280

Hi everyone, I can't change the print settings on my HP C4280 printer. I click the third drop down (Copies & Pages) menu after clicking print on a word document or webpage and I am able to see all the options (paper handling, scheduler, etc.- . I am also able to see advanced setting after clicking everything except paper type/quality, borderless printing, and printer driver information. When I click these 3 just mentioned, the advanced settings part that is supposed to load up is just blank- ) .
I have installed the driver and all other hp junk that I downloaded again from HP's website. Anyone have an idea how to solve the issue? I'm thinking the included leopard driver is being used and not the new HP one. I've tried selecting the new driver in system preferences but I don't know where the new driver is located.
Thanks in advance. I appreciate your help since the printer guzzles ink in the standard setting.

Seems like several people are having this problem. HP was actually very knowledgeable and helpful though. A simple manual uninstall and reinstall worked for me, but here are more comprehensive instructions from HP if you're still having trouble.
The issue you are describing would require a more intensive uninstall procedure. Double-click on Macintosh HD, Applications, Hewlett-Packard, HP Uninstaller. Proceed to the second screen of the uninstall, that asks you to select the device to remove. On this screen, hold the control, option, and command buttons (the three buttons on the bottom row of the keyboard, to the left of the spacebar). While holding the buttons, click the uninstall button. An additional screen will appear with a prompt to confirm.
Be advised, when you click yes all HP software items will be completely removed from the computer. This would include all items installed for other HP devices, as well as the driver package that is preloaded in the operating system. Any other HP devices that are currently installed will have to be reinstalled using compatible versions and the driver set would need to be reloaded from the Leopard DVD if you needed it for any older HP printers.
Click on yes, the uninstall may then take several minutes. Once the uninstaller has completed, empty the trash and restart the computer. When the computer has finished restarting, double-click on Macintosh HD, Applications, Utilities, Disk Utility. In the disk utility, highlight your Macintosh HD on the right, then click repair disk permissions on the right. The disk permissions repair may also take several minutes. After the repair is complete, close all windows and restart the computer again.
You would then be ready to reinstall the HP software. For your operating system version, you are recommended to only install the software version 9.7.1. Which is a comprehensive installation and includes the update item as well as support for 10.5.2. If you no longer have the file you previously download, it is not version 9.7.1, or you are unsure as to which version it is, then you may download the software from our site at the following link.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-55008-2 &lc=en&cc=us&product=3192753&os=219&dlc=en&lang=en
This should resolve the issue. If you need further assistance, please reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you further.

    Option 1:
Your MSN account might be deleted but the eprintcenter wont be deleted along with it.

  • How can i change printer settings from command line

    hello
i want to use command that changes printer to print grayscale or color
the best i find is to use: rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry
but i cant find color settings there
i would like your help with that
    thanks alot !

We may have to wait for an update.  Aside from changing the country, I'm not sucre this can be done.  There is no Health App in the System preferences and no  way to modify from within the app.  Weird.
If you go to Language & Region under general settings and choose any other country, you will get Metric.  I have the opposite problem.  I live in a Metric country and want my health app to be in lbs and inches which is what I am used to.

  • How can I change print presets?

Between the last time I used InDesign (CS3) and now, I upgraded my Mac system software to OS 10.9.5 AND replaced my old printer (which had died) with a new one.  Now when I open a doc in InDesign CS3, I can work with it just fine, but can't print it.  Initially, the PRINT command would cause the beach ball to spin and the ID to crash.  When I looked deeper, I find that ID is still retaining my old printer's information as the default printer, even though I deleted it from the system (I not only deleted the old printer via System Preferences for printing, I actually RESET the printer preferences).  My new printer is the only printer (thus the default printer).  However, ID doesn't see it.  When I look at ID's FILE/PRINT PRESETS menu and click "DEFINE," it shows me that the preset [default] printer is my old printer.  If I then click on "New..." ID crashes; if I click on "Edit..." ID crashes.
How can I get ID to see/recognize my new printer?  Is there an outdated list of printers somewhere within CS3 that doesn't include my new printer?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Many thanks

First of all, thank you both for all your help.
I found and trashed the Version 5.0 files in both the cache and preferences folders, and when I launched ID again and checked the print presets, lo and behold, there was my new printer’s description shown as the !  My joy was short-lived, however, because the “Print…” command still resulted in nothing more than a spinning beach ball and eventual ID crash.  I trashed the newly created Version 5.0 folders again, AND, for good measure, did the keyboard approach for replacing ID preferences, too.  Still a no-go for printing.  So, something else is going on that prevents ID from printing my docs.
It finally occurred to me to export the ID doc as a PDF, and I WAS able to print that from Reader, so that’s a work-around I can live with, I think.  I’m hesitant to uninstall everything, then reinstall from my ancient CS3 disks and upgrade from the website… it’s just so much work and it might not improve my situation.  If the PDF option fails to continue to do the trick, maybe I’ll tackle the re-install.  If I did as much graphics work as I used to a few years ago, it would be worth upgrading, but…
For now, you HAVE answered my original question, and I thank you again for the effort.

  • Using Mac OS 10.7.2 in Photoshop updated 12.0.4 I can not change Print Preferences

I updated my Mac to OS 10.7.2 and I also updated my Adobe to 12.0.4, when I open Adobe Photoshop, open file, make changes, when I go to print, it defaults to 11 in X 8.5 in and when I click print preferance, nothing happens.. it will not allow me to change any settings.. I use an Epson 9600 Pro INk which I also have the new drivers for that printer. I can print with outher programs, like Lightroom, and from my computer as well and it will let me choose the sizes, type of paper, qualty etc... but not in Photoshop... whcih is a real bummer... any ideas... I also called the support center, and I lost my connection 7 minutes in to the call that I have been waiting for.. any help or ideas?

Change Color Handling to "Printer Manages Color" and then back to "Photoshop Manages Color", then you should be able to get into "Print Settings"

  • Can't change printing font at Entourage

I don't know why but I can change the font for printing out emails from Entourage. I have tried to change the printed font in the perferences menu and used diff fonts and sizes, but no effect at all...
    Any idea ?

If a received or sent message was composed in HTML, have you tried changing the message to Plain Text first?
When you print a note or an HTML-format message, Microsoft Entourage uses the font and font size specified in the item, not the default settings you choose in the Preferences dialog box.
Plain text messages print in the font and font size that you specify in the Preferences dialog box, regardless of how they appear on your screen.

  • Can't change printing prefs (encoding:binary) in Photoshop CS3 Mac Intel

    Hi
My version of Photoshop is in German, so I don't know if the translation is correct...
If I open the print preview window (File>Print) and change the print encoding to JPEG, it switches it back to Binary when I press "finish" or "print...". I must be able to change this, printing using binary is not an option.
This issue exists since we switched to Intel Macs. The problem appears on a fresh mac os x 10.5.6 installation with just Photoshop installed. And it's only on Intel Macs, on PPC Macs we do not have this problem.
I called the hotline and they confirmed this issue, but couldn't help me because I got an MLP-license.

What can I do? Thanks for your help!

Jim, I have been on the phone with Adobe support since I posted my last message (a long time!) The tech agent just discovered the option in Photoshop preferences and I came back to post the solution to the problem.
If I had waited for your answer I would have saved a lot of time!
Thank you for responding. Hopefully if someone else runs into it they will find this thread.

How can I set the default settings so I dont have to change the printer Properties each time I print?

  • How can I change print settings permanently?

I've looked through all the FAQs I can find, and I can see how to change the settings each time I print, but I'd like to make it so that it always prints the pictures several shades lighter. I also need to recalibrate the printer, but this has always been a problem. Is there a way to permanently set up a printing profile that will always automatically apply?
    I'm using Lightroom 3.

printer driver settings are saved in the profile. Or upgrade to LR4 which has this feature built into the Print module.
