Linux-ck 3.9.3 disabling IRQ #16 shutdown hang

Hi!
It just happened again: my system hangs on Disabling IRQ #16, just ater "Storage is finalized" systemd output. It won't poweroff...
As title says, i'm using latest linux-ck, with bfq scheduler, atom optimized, from gravsky's repo.
Any idea?

I have a PF kernel, not CK (and no hp-related hardware), and it happens to me occasionally, but I rarely reboot/shutdown.
However, I frequently put the laptop to sleep and it just hangs  before shutting down the screen. The sleep LED keeps blinking indefinitely (it should only be blinking during sleep initialisation), and no errors are being printed out, but I suspect it is the same cause as with reboot when the aforementioned printout is visible.
It affects ~50% of sleep cycles, which means that when I put laptop to sleep, I lose my work 50% of the time.

    Hallo,
    after installing the Solaris 10 03/05 i am faced with the problem named is returning into the state "disabled" after a shutdown.
    Enabling via svcadm starts the named and it works fine (no config errrors). So, whats happened here???
    BTW: Is the more in-depth documentation for the SMF available, eg. tutorials, how to migrate to smf ?

  • GDM disable login on shutdown

    Hey guys,
    On shutting down the system (from gnome3 - but im pretty sure it wont matter what DE is being used), the gdm login screen appears.
    However before it shuts down there is still time to click login and enter a password,
    Is there anyway to disable this, e.g. greying it out, or putting a 'shutting down' prompt there instead?
    Or would it be a case of submitting a feature request to gnome devs?
    (Also after gdm finally closes, there terminal login prompt then appears for about 10 seconds before the screen finally goes blank. Is there anyway to replace this with the shutdown script text instead?)

  • When the BT is enabled/disabled Satellite A300-U01 hangs few seconds

    I have Satellite A300-U01... there is one problem sometimes when I ENABLE or DISABLE Bluetooth device in my laptop, the laptop hangs for 3 or 5 seconds and if some song is playing it hangs and make strange noise for 3 or 5 seconds then become normal...

    Maybe some active background process is responsible for this.
    Do you still use preinstalled Antivir application?
    Have you noticed HDD activity (blinking HDD LED) while hanging?
    To be honest o don't believe this hanging issue has something to do with BT.

    Hello, when I logout/shutdown/restart and the volume is not mute, I hear a large beep sound which annoys me very much. I tried to untick alart sound in System->Preference->Sound, but it does not help.

    That module only affects the system PC speaker. You say "when the volume is not mute[d]"; is the beep coming from the soundcard or the PC speaker? If it's coming from the latter, unload the pcspkr module (and be sure to unload snd_pcsp as well if you're on a 2.6.28 or higher kernel).

  • OSB 10.2.0.1 - Linux 64-bit - lsvol - obtool command to list volumes hangs.

    We have HP MSL6060 (2 tape drive) library. During Oracle DB backup via RMAN script, obtool command lsvol hangs. We use two RMAN channels to write to both tape drives. Is it because of both tape drives are in use by the OSB, one cannot get output of lsvol command?

    You are correct. As long as the robot is reserved by one of these drives the lsvol command is waiting to reserve the robot itself to provide you the output. Outside of this script without jobs running are you able to get an lsvol without this hang?

    Ok, so I don't want to shut off the startup sound. I like knowing that my Mini is on it's way. But I would like to change the sound. I wouldn't mind being able to set a shutdown sound and/or change sounds of other events. The PrefPane is not allowing me to get at what I really desire. Are there only third party pieces that will enable this?

    Sorry for wasting everyone's time. It turned out that I had only tried installing nvidia/bumblebee without the nomodeset option..and apparently that didn't work properly for some reason.
    So if anyone else runs into this problem here's the solution:
    1) Boot your installation media with the 'nomodeset' kernel option (this is especially important for live images (fedora,ubuntu,...) which are completely unusable otherwise
    2) With nomodeset still enabled, install the nvidia driver, bumblebee and bbswitch
    4) Enable bumblebeed.service
    3) remove the nomodeset option
    Also I updated the microcode on the CPU, but as far as I could tell that didn't affect anything.

    Hi everyone,
    I bought a new HP Omen 15 laptop. In Windows everything runs fine, but on Linux I get an IRQ 16 error after which SSD reads become so painfully slow that the system becomes mostly unusable. This issue has been posted by someone on the Ubuntu forums, but nobody had a solution there.
    Hopefully one of you will be able to help me, because right now I'm stuck on Windows for doing my work...and I get absolutely no joy out of that

    What's interesting is, that this problem does not occur if I set the 'nomodeset' kernel option. So probably it's somehow related to graphics. The performance drop is quite visible:
    With nomodeset:
    hdparm -Tt --verbose /dev/sda

    Timing cached reads: 21006 MB in 2.00 seconds = 10513.48 MB/sec
    Timing buffered disk reads: 2378 MB in 3.00 seconds = 792.36 MB/sec
    ...and without:

    /dev/sda:
    Timing cached reads: 12274 MB in 2.00 seconds = 6140.85 MB/sec
    Timing buffered disk reads: 8 MB in 3.20 seconds = 2.50 MB/sec
    So just about 0.3% of the original speed.
    The above information are form a fresh install without any additional packages installed. Installing nvidia/intel/bumblebee did not help either, so I've left it in the fresh state to be debuggable.

    Sorry should have mentioned that. Yeah I tried that and it delays the error message a little bit (about 20 seconds after boot vs instantly). In the end it leads to the exact same error though.

    After such error both the mouse and keyboard cease to function properly. The mouse cursor movement becomes choppy and during click+drag the click is being lost often, dropping the dragged item. The keyboard skips keypresses.

    Hi, I have kind of similar issues sometimes. What's the output of
    lspci|grep USB
    on your system?
    lspci -v shows which the IRQ a PCI device is showing, so the output of that command might be helpful, too.
    For me the error (quite randomly) occurs when one of my usb controllers is bound to the vfio-pci driver and the other to ehci-pci and ohci-pci. It can be fixed by binding both to the ?hci-pci driver and reloading all usb modules.
    I use this script to reload them, but you might have to change the modules

    I think this happened more often, before I disabled legacy usb in my uefi, but I'm not sure. As to why it happens when you watch a movie: are you using a usb headset? Anyways, hardware is mysterious to me and I hope there's someone here that has a better guess than me.

  • K7T Turbo LE and problems with IRQ routing Win98SE

    When I boot my machine (AMD 1600+ on an MSI K7T Turbo Limited Edition), the BIOS reports me the following:
    SiS6326 AGP card: NA (no IRQ even if I enable "Assign IRQ to VGA" in BIOS, but that's not my problem)
    Startech NIC in slot 2: IRQ 11
    D-Link DFE-538 TX in slot 3: IRQ 10
    Echo Mia soundcard in slot 4: IRQ 5
    Onboard Promise ATA100 controller: IRQ 11
    2x USB controllers Via 3038: IRQ 3 for each one
    IDE controllers: IRQ 14 and 15
    In "Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager", there's one big difference:
    The two USB controllers (Via 3038 PCI to USB) are on IRQ 10!!! The only way for Via USB controllers to be on their real good one IRQ (3) is to completely disable "IRQ Steering" in "Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager - System Devices - PCI Bus".
    To resolve this, I tried:
    - different Via 4 in 1 (4.32, 4.35, 4.36): no changes
    - Via IRQ miniport uninstalled: no changes
    - Enable "PnP OS" and "ACPI" in the BIOS: no changes
    - Tried all the combinations in "Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager - System Devices - PCI Bus - IRQ Steering" (except disabling IRQ Steering because like I said, it resolves the bug. Though, I want IRQ Steering to be enabled AND the bug resolved).
    So, if anyone have a clue, it will be really appreciated.

  • NAC with Linux client

    I have some Linux clients. When they connects to the trusted network in the first time, they are redirected to NAC login page and are required to download java runtime. I set policies so that linux client can download java and install it, but after that, the web browers (firefox) on linux client still not allow NAC login page to be loaded.
    What is the root cause in this case ?

    Folks, the problem is due to the fact that there are no web agents available for linux at this time. You need to create a new user page for linux with all java options disabled ( such as the one for mac address checking , ip address refresh etc ) . Make this user page on the top of the list. Also, under clean access requirements, make sure 'require use of web agent' is disabled for linux. This way, there will be web redirection and authentication only for linux clients ( no posture possible for linux ).

    I've activated system>pref>Remote Desktop
    But I can not access any of servers from:
    - a Mac using, Mac server sharing screen, VNC viewer or Microsoft Remote connection which is in a same subnet
    - Other Server Using KRDC, Remote Desktop Viewer, terminal server client or tiger VNC viewer
    Also I tried to connect to servers after activating krfb
    but it always says no rout to server/ server not found/ connection closed
    and remote desktop viewer can not find any host when I try to use option "find"
    Please Advise

    Make sure to enable "require a password..." in the Remote Desktop Preference on the Linux system. Some clients won't work unless this is set. Unfortunately the Remote Desktop Preferences panel on the Linux side does not show you the port it is listening on, but you can get it by clicking on the IP or name that it shows as a link. The first user or vnc server is usually listening on port 5900, then 5901, and so on.
    Your problem is probably the firewall on your Linux system. You can disable the firewall on the Linux system:
    service iptables stop
    However, probably a better idea, simply tunnel the connection through SSH as following:
    On the Mac, open the Terminal application from the Applications/Utilities folder. Then type the following:

    local_port = port on your Mac that does not conflict with any of your own screen-sharing or other services, e.g. 5555
    remote_port = vnc server port on your Linux system

    The trick is now to connect to a local port on your Mac, instead using the address of your Linux server. The communication will be encrypted using ssh going over tcp port 22, which is normally enabled in the firewall.
    The Mac screen sharing application is working fine. On your Mac, select "Go>Connect to Server" from the Finder menu and type:
    vnc://localhost:5555

  • Linux Remote Server

    I have installed the standalone beta on OS X and manually installed the Administrator files on my CF8 development server running Red Hat Enterprise 5.3 (SELinux is disabled). The Administrator starts with no problem on the server, just some info notices. I followed the excellent blog post linked earlier to set up the remote server, and got no errors on the client or the server.
    However, the client never changes from "unknown" status. I tried changing the server config in builder to an incorrect port, to see if it was communicating with the server and I *did* get an error message in the console on the server. RDS works fine for files and datasources. I realize builder is only supported for Mac and Windows at launch, but I haven't seen anything about not supporting linux remote servers, which would be a show-stopper for us.
    I also tried a CF9 beta server on RHEL, and saw the same problem. Any insight would be appreciated.

    Sure. The server is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 with SELinux disabled, 32 bit, kernel 2.6.18-128.2.1.e15.
    Apache 2.2 (2.2.3-22.el5_3.2) unmodified.
    CF 8.01, no hotfixes, standalone. Clean install of 8.01, not upgraded. Installed the administrator files by hand, fixed permissions.
    CFBuilder is a standalone install, not plug-in, on OS X 10.5.7, Mac Pro, 8 cores, 10 gigs.
    The test servers are VMs, so I can clone and break them if you want me to test anything.

  • Fix linux kernel vulnerability

    At the moment I have one OEL server ... during boot up it reports
    Red Hat Nash 5.1.19.6 ( yes it reports Red Hat even though I built it from an OEL download.)
    Once up, a 'uname -a' reports '2.6.18-164.el5 x86-64.'
    Now I have a directive to upgrade the kernel if the kernel is a 2.6.x release prior to 20 Sept. 2010 for Red Hat Enterprise v5 servers)
    I assume that even though this was built from an OEL download, the fact that it is still showing "Red Hat" at boot time means I'm still on a Red Hat distro.
    How do I make the upgrade?
    As this is a trial machine, we have not purchased a support contract. That is not out of the question, but short term I'd rather not wait on our arcane purchasing system.

    Because I don't know enough about what I'm doing to be able to confirm that the specific issue has been addressed.

    If I understand correctly, all you need to do is install the latest kernel update of OEL, because that's the distribution you are running.

    Forgot to mention that I already tried following kernel parameters (acpi=routeirq, noirqdebug, pci=msi, irqpoll, irqfixup) of which only noirqdebug worked (as to say that IRQ #16 was not disables, so my keyboard did work), but which caused a decrease in graphics performance (low fps rates (shells refresh slowly), tearing).

    there are many reports about intel chipset systems having the same problem after kernel 2.6.38 / 2.6.39 .
    you basically have 2 options :
    1. If you want to have all usb ports available:
    test with the LTS kernel 2.6.32.48, verify it doesn't have those problems (99% sure)
    stick to LTS-kernel atleast until the problem is solved in the mainline kernel
    2. Disable / don't use the problem ports.

    If there are not enough usb ports working, your system has several pci express slots.
    you could consider purchasing a pci express extension card with usb ports.
    While it may use the same driver, it will get a different irq.
