Linux client cannot write to folder he creates on Leopard server

Wrong OS - moved.
Message was edited by: WelshDog2

I'm trying to create a folder on the admin share (C$) of a Windows 7 domain client from a domain server as administrator and I get "You need permission to perform this action"  If I do this on another server instead of a Win 7 client, it works.
The reason for this folder creation started when I'm trying to scan PCs in my domain through GFI Languard and I'm getting access denied.  The tech support told me the reason for this is because it's trying to create a folder under Windows directory and it getting denied access. The account that's doing this is a domain admin account.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

  • Scanning with Preview - "cannot write to folder" error

I was scanning some photos yesterday using my epson 3170 scanner into Preview.
    These scanned & saved OK.
then I installed a couple of Apple updates - one was the latest OS X security update and a java update.
I then scanned something else and now I get a "cannot write to folder" error message preventing me from saving the scanned image (to the same folder I was saving the others to earlier).  I can save files to the same folder using other apps so there is nothing wrong with the drive or folder permissions.
I scanned the image otthe desktop and moved the file to the folder I wanted.
If I use ImageCapture it works OK as well.
Any ideas why Preview won't let me save the images?

Check the protections.  A command such as ls -ale@ or ls -aled@ would be typical for checking that.   I'd guess the files aren't writeable by the web server.  This'll probably be a chown and possibly a chmod command to bring the settings on the errant log(s) into agreement with the other settings on the other Apache web server logs that are being written.
FWIW, I'd use zdump or cat and pipe the log contents elsewhere if I wanted to write to them.  But if you're resetting the logs, there's a rollover script around (the one that runs automatically on OS X, and I'm unfortunately drawing a blank on the name; it moved from the /etc/periodic stuff over to launchd a while back), or write your own short script that rolls the files and leaves the appropriate owner and permissions settings.
There's an intro to the Mavericks Apache file set up at /library/server/web/config/apache2/readme.txt

  • Windows Client Binding Failure in a different subnet - Snow Leopard Server

    hi all,
We are running SL 10.6.6 mini mac on a subnetted domain - The svr subnet is 10.20.10.xxx
Clients (mac & win xp) are in subnets 10.20.12.xxx & 10.20.13.xxx
Linux Firewalls separate the subnets although for the purposes of this topic and setup i have set the default policy to accept with no drop rules prior.
The issue is that a win xp client cannot see the SL server. The win XP client does a NETLOGON broadcast i.e. (10.20.13.255 UDP 137) which does not make it to the netlogon service being advertised by the SL Server.
If i put the win xp client in the 10.20.10.xxx (the SL Svr subnet) all works fine and the win xp client authenticates correctly.
Is anyone out there running a similar setup (different subnets with Win XP Clients) I'm interested in how you got the binding/auth process working.
Some side info on the SL Svr - Its a PDC domain master which has 2 replica's attached. All instructions appear to have been followed correctly as per 10.6 OD admin guide. I have all the Mac OS server essentials book and have been trolling through them for answers.
I have setup SMB and configured it as per a previous thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2014572&tstart=0
Any help/thoughts/ pearls of wisdom would be appreciated.
    Cheers

Problem Fixed. Windows XP client did not have WINS server IP address is TCP/IP properties.

  • Win 8 - Cannot Write To Folder Created Via Mac

This is kinda strange and hard to explain, but I shall try.
Basically I have a NAS server. When I create a folder on the NAS server via my Mac, I am given permission errors when trying to copy to that folder via Windows 8 (And possibly other windows too).
Trying to change permissions on windows throws up a "Failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied" error.
This is driving me potty so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

  • Linux client - cannot connect to JServer

Server with database - Oracle 8.1.7 on Windows 2000
    Client - Linux RedHat 7.2
When I trying to connect to JServer using sess_sh:
    sess_sh -u arseniy -p mypasswd -s sess_iiop://199.58.1.113:2481:orcl
    I get this error message:
javax.naming.CommunicationException: Unknown service: :session1 [Root exception is javax.naming.CommunicationException: Unknown service: 199.58.1.113:2481:orcl]
When I try to use DBAStudio, I get something like this:
    VDJSERVER-1516: Failed to get a new JServer session.Unknown service::OEM0
The most incomprehensible thing is that if I reboot my client to Windows 2000, it works, in other words - the file LISTENER.ORA on the server seems to be correct.
So why I cannot work with JServer under Linux!?
    Thank you in advance...

    I uninstalled the
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2574819
and it resumed working for me as well as I had exactly the same issue here.
there is a point though: removing this KB removes the UDP connection capability of RDP 8.0; arguably the most significant breakthrough the RDP 8 has to offer. shouldn't it be addresses and the problem handled in a better way?
if RDS Team claim that they've brought all the "adaptive network", "adaptive graphics" , "WAN enhancement" and etc to Windows 7 with the RDP 8 update(see links below), then shouldn't it be as available and as glitch-free as
it is with a windows 8 VM?
basically it is unacceptable to force the client to turn off the "automatic determine" feature ; either manually or through the RD-ConnectionBroker tweak of the following link (Jeroen Link):
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2863663
because if it is a supported feature, it has to be supported without IFs and BUTs. this is definitely a bug that needs to be addresses.
RDP 8 for windows 7 links:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2592687
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2012/10/09/remote-desktop-protocol-8-0-update-for-windows-7-sp1-enabling-a-great-wan-user-experience-for-windows-7-sp1-virtual-desktops.aspx
another thing I noticed : with RDP 8 features enabled, you don't get the event ID 2 as this link suggests anymore:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff817587
maybe you'll get event 34 as this one says. but I am not quite sure:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/16652.remotefx-vgpu-setup-and-configuration-guide-for-windows-server-2012.aspx
P.S. I am using 2012R2 Hyper-V and it does have this problem as well, so I don't think that compatibility roll up update will help.

  • 10.5 clients cannot connect via AFP to 10.4.11 server

    Server : xServe running 10.4.11
Login with AFP is successful with
    Clients:
    all 10.6.x
    all 10.4.x
Login fails ( or more accurately never produces a login dialog window,
just get a "Connecting to afp://x.x.x.x" message with barber pole
progress bar ) with any 10.5.x client ( workstation or server )
There is another 10.4.11 server in this network that allows 10.4, 10.6
and 10.5 clients to connect without issues.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

The server uses both OD accounts and Local, but mainly the logins are local accounts on the server. Cannot login with either one - but it is definitely limited to just clients logging in from 10.5 workstations or servers... The same accounts can login fine from 10.4 or 10.6 machines. Seems to be a config problem limited to this 10.4.11 server. But have no idea what it could be. I have another 10.4.11 server that does not have this issue.

  • 10.6.x clients cannot copy image files to 10.4.11 Server

Three clients - 2 MB, 1 MP, all 10.6.x - freeze and must restart finder any time they try to copy any format image file to the 10.4.11 Server. Server is a graphite G4. One client on the network is a G5 running 10.5.8 and can copy the same exact files with no problem.

Past migrations can get pretty messy.
I'm sure the root of your problem lies in your ldapv3 settings; including contacts and searches
Revisit the directory settings, via system prefs--> accounts.
Look for older "migrated" setting that are no longer needed.
    Perseverance brings good fortune.
    You're welcome.

  • Leopard Clients cannot search a Shared Volume

Clients are 10.5.1, conntecting to a Leopard server 10.5.1
when the clients try to search for a file by contents or name, nothing is every returned, it does not seem to try (no delay or spinner)
the results are the same if they click into the server first (to get the shared point name in the top of the search window) or if they open any other finder window
searches of the local volume works perfectly
Filesharing is working as intended on all clients, they have read and write on the files in question.
its just that all searches return no results
    any ideas?

Your server may be hanging while creating the Spotlight index for the share point. Look in the console.log file (open Console on the server from the Utilities folder). If one of the mdworker processes is having trouble, you'll see Spotlight error messages. Also look in Activity Monitor (also in Utilties) on the server to see if any process that starts with md (like mds, mdworker, etc.) is using a significant portion of CPU time (20% or more, sustained).
It's possible that waiting will alleviate the problem, as Spotlight finishes the index. Or you may want to try this:
    1. Create a new share point (preferably on a different server volume, if possible), and set all permissions and turn on Spotlight search while the new share point is empty.
    2. Copy a few folders from the troublesome share point to the new one, and attempt searching from a client.
    3. If this works, continue copying or moving items from the old share to the new one. If you encounter problems, the last items moved or copied were probably troublesome. If you don't have trouble, then continue moving/copying items until the original share point is empty (or contains the same contents). Later you can delete the original share if you're happy about the status of the new one.
And for VPN access to the server behind a NAT/PAT device (such as a DSL gateway), your server's firewall needs to accept any PPTP or L2TP and IKE data from the "any" network; then forward those ports from your gateway to the server's local address via Port Address Translation (PAT):
    * Most gateways ("routers", "cable modems", etc.) refer to PAT by one of these names: Port Forwarding, NAT Pinholes, or Port Address Translation. Some devices hide these settings in the Advanced, Security, or Firewall settings.
    * Let's say that your public IP address is 17.30.31.7 and that your server behind the NAT device is at 192.168.1.3. You want to forward incoming requests from 17.30.31.7 to 192.168.1.3 for the following TCP and UDP ports:
    UDP Port 500 (IKE)
UDP Port 1701 (L2TP over UDP)
    TCP Port 1723 (PPTP)
    UDP 4500 (IKE NAT Traversal)

  • ACS 3.3.4 with Linux client

I've got some problems with a Linux wireless network connection. NetworkManager is installed on the Linux laptop. PEAP profile is created.
When the default Character String in ACS points to "Self" or his own IP adress, the Linux client can authenticate and succesfully log in to the wireless network.
When the default "Character String" is set to an extended RADIUS server, the client cannot login anymore. I created a new "Character String" that contains the @domain.local suffix. It is not working. Same problem for a Nokia (Symbian) cellphone.
    What can it be ?

ACS 3.0(4) is only supported on Windows 2000/NT and not 2003

  • Linux client can't cancel print jobs in print monitor

CUPS print server on Mac OS X server 10.4
    CentOS 4.4 linux client
    - Mac OS X server and CentOS linux client on different authentication sources
The CentOS 4.4 linux client is configured for CUPS printing and pointed to the Mac OS X server CUPS print service.
The linux client can successfully print to available printers servered by the Mac OS X server.
The linux client has a print monitor. Normal user on linux client cannot cancel print jobs thru this print monitor. Selection of print job and pressing the 'cancel' button do not effect a cancel. Admin user on Mac OS X print server can cancel the job from the print server.
Is authorization required for a client to cancel a CUPS print job on the client?
Is same authentication setup required for both client and server?
    Thanks,
    -Neil

    Hi,
From the Desktop, hold down the Windows key and press R.  Into the Run window, type services.msc and hit enter.  Browse down to the print spooler service, right click it and select Properties then click on the Stop button.  Now browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS and delete the job inside this folder - You may need to click a prompt to gain the appropriate authority to open the PRINTERS folder.
Restart the computer and you should find the document(s) have been removed.

  • Windows 7 pro client cannot access folders on server 2003 domain server

I added a windows 7 64 bit client to a server 2003 32 bit domain 3 weeks ago and file sharing was working fine until today, 5/4/12. Now, when trying to access shared folders that reside on the server,
I get the following "access denied" message:
[…folder…] is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The user name could not be found.
    Strangely enough...
    The windows 7 client
can open shared folders that reside on the XP clients in the domain
All the XP clients in the domain can access the server 2003 folders
All the XP clients and the server 2003 machine can access shared folders and printers on the windows 7 client.
The windows 7 client can ping the server 2003 machine and vice versa
I can “see” the server in my network list, but when I click on it, I get the same “access denied” message listed above.
So... the only problem is that the windows 7 client cannot access folders that reside on the windows server 2003 machine. There must be some sharing setting that got changed
    by a recent windows update.
Here is what I have done/verified so far on the windows 7 client:
In advanced sharing settings for Home/Work, Public and Domain profiles:
    network discovery is enabled
file and print sharing is enabled
use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers is selected (I also tried allowing windows to manage homegroup connections instead, but the problem remained.)
40 -56 bit encryption is enabled
    In “gpedit.msc” Local Policies/Security Settings:
    enabled the following policies:
Network access: Allow anonymous SID/name translation
Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users
    disabled the following policies:
Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and Shares
Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts
Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares
What am I missing? Are there policies on the server that need to be adjusted?
Please help! My business is crippled if I cannot access server files from this workstation. Thank you in advance.

  • Windows VNC clients cannot connect to Snow Leopard Server native VNC server

I am resurfacing the following related comment made in another post that discusses the same issue I am having with VNC on Snow Leopard. This is still an issue and I cannot connect to our Xserve's Snow Leopard Server with a VNC client on Windows.
I don't want to install another third party VNC server onto our SL Server, and am looking for a VNC client for windows that will connect to our SL Server.
    Does anyone have any solutions?

Re: Newbie: Connect Windows -> OSX Server
Posted: Nov 4, 2009 9:26 AM in response to: Antonio Rocco
I would politely disagree. Yes, definitely, the Mac 'Screen Sharing' app works a treat, and Apple Remote Desktop.app works as well, but I am coming from a Window's PeeCee.
For me, connecting to my 10.5(.8) Server via tightvnc gives 'Server did not offer supported security type!". Using RealVNC to this machine states "No matching security types Do you wish to reconnect to ... ?" a telnet to this AppleVNCServer service (port 5900), shows RFB 003.889 *, or Remote Frame Buffer Major 3, minor 889.
Also, connecting to multiple 10.6(.1) Clients with Tightvnc correctly asks for a password but then hangs at "Status: Security type requested". Using RealVNC opens, connects, asks for authentication, and exits. Telneting to this AppleVNCServer service (port 5900), also shows RFB 003.889 *.
The Current Version of the protocol is supposed to be 3.8, that is Major version 3, minor version 8. Not 80 or 800 but Eight). http://www.realvnc.com/docs/rfbproto.pdf and I believe that tightvnc only supports up to version 3.7.
On each station I have installed the 'old' OSXVnc.app as a service (to a unique port). OSXVnc utilizes protocol 3.3 and I can control them successfully, but that is of my own doing because of this issue.
Now JollysFastVNC works a treat to any machine I have EVER tried to connect to. I have not tried COTVNC or any of the others (too slow for me, when they wer e around)
Also, I just noticed that RealVNC states that their free and personal version will not connect to Mac OSX (x86 and PPC) but the Enterprise one will. I just Dl'ed the Enterprise Viewer and it gave essentially the same thing ('protocol is not valid' message, even after it asks for a password). Anyway, I am not here to hijack this thread, just trying to keep the info flowing and open.
Maybe I am the only one with these problems but the bottom line is I cannot use Real or Tight, or UltraVNC to administer my server or clients as long as AppleVNCServer gives out the 003.889 protocol version.
    Peter
    * The ProtocolVersion message consists of 12 bytes interpreted as a string of ASCII characters in the format "RFB xxx.yyy\n" where xxx and yyy are the major and
minor version numbers, padded with zeros.

Searching on the net brought me to the same solution that Mr. Hoffman found as well, I was a bit skeptical at first but since he recommended it, and all my other attempts failed, it was a last resort and I have some additional notes of my own for a successful solution. Read the two links below first before doing anything, as they contribute to the solution in tandem.

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=9081641&postcount=28
I should probably just create an entirely new post with all of the steps that worked for me, but it's rather straightforward nonetheless.

  • SCCM Client Push Installation Wizard does not install the client. CCMSetup folder - not created

    Hello,
I have tried running the Client Push wizard for a single computer or a pilot collection of 8 computers, the result is always
the same - no SCCM client is installed on any computer.
The computers are running 32-bit Windows XP SP2.
    The Windows firewall is disabled.
The client push installation account is setup and have domain admin and local admin privileges. Client Push automatic method
    is not enabled.
The domain is AD WIndows 2000.
The SCCM server is running Windows 2003 R2 SP2 64bit Standard.
The AD schema has been extended.
MP, and SLP are installed and published. (MP is published in DNS as well.)
    FSP is installed.
MP, SLP and FSP are running on the same server.
SQL 2005 server is running locally.
System management container is created and all rights and permissions delegated.
With the Push installation account I can access C$ share on the client computer from the SCCM server.
RPC, Remote registry, WMI services are running on the client machines.
All prerequisites are installed from the client folder on SCCM server- latest BITS 2.5, Windows installer 3.1 and MSXML6.
All computers are in the same IP subnet which is listed in the boundaries.
Yet, the client is not being installed.
No CCMSetup folder is created on the client machines in Windows\System32 folder, so it is really difficult to troubleshoot
what the is the issue. I do not see anything helpful in the ccm.log on the server.
I have tried running the CCMSetup.exe manually on one of the workstations and that was successful and reported back to the
    SCCM server / console.
What else I should check / try? I really want to push agents via the wizard.
    Thank you,
    Peter

    Hi Wally,
    I have changed 2 things:
    1. Enabed automatic push installation (so I am not usign the wizard any more)
    2. Changed the IP subnet to IP ranges in the site boundairies.
After runnignt the discovery, I was able to see some activities in the ccm.log. A ccmsetup folder is now created but the agent is still not instaleld. Here is the ccmsetup.log

There are two red errors I am concerned about:
"Failed to successfully complete HTTP request. (StatusCode at WinHttpQueryHeaders: 401)
    and
"Failed to download 'WindwosXP-KB923845-x86-ENU.exe' from http://HFXDBSSOM.corp.eastlink.ca/CCM_Client/i386/BITS25 with error code 0x80004005).
What should I do to resolve these errors?
    Thanks,
    Peter

  • I downloaded 200  photos, an event folder was created, I could see all the photos and was in the process of editing them when I got a message that iPhoto unexpectedly quit.  I cannot find the photos anywhere on my computer now.  Is there anything to do?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot restore emails with time machine. In Lion TM created a folder in Mail called recovered emails(or similar) No such folder is created since ML. I am able to see the email I want to restore, but it then disappears

I am inside Mail, waiting for the TM 'recovered mail' folder to appear - which it doen't.
I only looked in my home folder after trying several times from within my Main app.
