Linux Debian 6 (Squeeze) DHCP failure

I have a Cisco/Linksys E2500 router. I connected to it through one of the Ethernet ports with a Microsoft Windows XP Pro machine and installed and ran the setup software. Windows was able to connect to the router and to the internet through the Siemens Gigaset 4300 DSL modem to my internet provider, Windstream.
I cannot get my Dell GX620 which is running Linux Debian 6 (Squeeze) to connect to the router through the Ethernet ports.
It appears that I receive no reply to the DHCP requests made by Linux.
I am open to any suggestions. I have only one monitor, keyboard and mouse and no KVM switch to run both the machines at once. I do have Windows XP Pro running in a VirtualBox virtual machine on the Debian machine if that might be of help.
I can configure Debian to a static IP if I knew all of the IP configuration that the E2500 would assign. I would also need to know what reconfiguration the router requires if I use a static IP.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

If the router’s IP is 192.168.x.1, you can use any IP from 192.168.x.2 to 49. It would not create an IP conflict since the DHCP range of the router is from 192.168.x.100 to 149. As for the DNS servers, you can copy the same DNS that your Windows PC is getting from the router.

  • Facebook not working properly on Linux Debian Squeeze

Since the last week I cannot get to work facebook properly on firefox (im running it on debian squeeze). It started not loading facebook which was solved by deleting cookies and cache, but now I cannot "interact" with it, It loads the page, but i cannot accept requests, see comments, load other peoples profile, change security settings etc. Whenever i try to do something it keeps on trying to load but it never does
I was using firefox 15, I upgraded it to firefox 20 but the problem is still there.

    Hi again!
Alco, reseting firefox did not solve the issue neither, thanks anyway!
cor-el, starting it in safe mode neither, regarding the default theme is the one i am always using and doesnt work neither.
For the creating a profile thing, the instructions are for when firefox is already installed on the linux distribution or if it has been installed from the package manager. Its not my case, I have installed firefox myself (downloading it from the firefox webpage) so not sure if the proccedure will work as it should, can you confirm it?
In any case and in case it helps i have been doing some tests. Say i want to see the profile of my friend named XXXX, if i log in to facebook (after deleting the cookies and restarting it, otherwise it will not load the page), and I click on my friend XXXX's name to load his profile, it will not load.
However, if i go to his profile's address directly (say www.facebook.com/XXXX) it loads it but then i cannot do anything else as it will not load anything. It seems like once i load in a facebook page once i cannot do anything else unless y remove the cookies and restart firefox....

Where I can correct the disk space allocation ? There are 67 GB free disk space on my pc, avalaible space before VIS install was 270 GB approximatively.

  • Toshiba NB100 ACPI & WIFI on Debian Squeeze

Hi, maybe its a right place to ask.
One morning i founded my netbook completely hanged. So i turned it off and started again, but it hanged again and last lines on screen where ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored. From now my linux can boot fine just with one of the following kernel options: noapic, nolapic, acpi=off, acpi=noirq, and my wireless card atheros is not working. A strange thing is that wireless card is now detected by lspci as AR5001, but before it were detected as AR242x. I tried madwifi and ath5k drivers but not working. On the touchpad it is activated and i can enable and disable it pressing fn+f1
That is the output of lspci with ath5k driver
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (rev ff) (prog-if ff)
    !!! Unknown header type 7f
So i upgraded bios to last version 2.10 but it still the same. Tried to boot with usb stick knoppix and it freezing at "booting the kernel" without kernel options.
    My system is Debian Squeeze.
So i don't know what is happening, can anybody help me with that?
    Thank you

    Hi
It seems that its not the right place to ask this question here. The point is that the most Toshiba notebooks are delivered with Windows and not with one Linux distribution. Furthermore Im not a Linux user, but I have founded this interesting article:

  • Access control exception only on Linux/Debian not on Windows!?

We have a rmi server application with a webstart rmi swing client that we have been running successfully on Windows. The client is downloaded and running without any problems on Windows platforms (W2003, Win2K, WinXP). The client webstart jar is signed and all permissions is set in the jnlp file.
As soon as we setup a server on linux/debian sarge we get these access control exceptions when the server tries to send events back to the client. It complains on
file permssions not being set on the server jar file and the strange thing is that the path separator is backslash on linux?
    I've tried the following:
    1) java.policy. Added All permssions to the server jar file and/or bin the folder.
    2) Running without any security manager, i.e., System.setSecurityManager(null)
    3) Explicitly setting the policy on the server. Policy.setPolicy(...)
    4) Explicitly setting a policy on the client. URL policyUrl = Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader().getResource("server.policy");
    5) Building the server and client on debian
I'm at my wits end... I've searched these forums and it seems that this is might be a common problem but I've not found a solution yet.
Our system works 100% on Windows without any problems, it's only on linux/debian that we get these access control problems.

I have two suggestions. The first is that you didn't indicate the permissions of the file and the directories above it along with the user you're running the program as. In Unix it is easier to get an access issue as you're probably not running as root. In a traditional Windows environment everything runs with admin permission allowing access to anything. While the error comes from the security manager it has nothing to do with traditional J2SE security - it may be an O/S level thing.
But the second suggestion touches on the other question you have - why is this showing up as backslashes? Is there perhaps an issue with the JNLP file? Is there any code that should be using System.getProperty( "file.separator") and is instead just using the backslash?

  • Jre1.5.0 doesn't work properly on Linux Debian

    Hi to everybody.
I've tried today the jre1.5.0 on my Linux Debian, with the browser Firefox.
I've found two problems, that i don't have with the jre1.4.2:
    1) when it's open a new window by an applet java, I can't close the window clicking on the "x" button, I can modify the dimensions of the window but I can't close it. I've tried on different sites (i.e. www.actionchat.com or www.publiweb.it/chat )
    2) same colors are not correct (i.e in the chat of www.actionchat.com or of www.publiweb.it/chat).
Debian woody with kernel 2.6.9, glibc2.2, firefox 1.0PR built with the gcc3.2.
I hope that these problems will be fixed.
    Best regards from Italy, Paolo.

I am experiencing similar problems on Fedora Core 3. I cannot close some chats by clicking the "X" on a site that uses VolanoChat (http://www.volano.com/). Was elsewhere on the web using chat, sorry don't remember where, java based chat and the last character I would type would get cut off. Had no problems with JRE 1.4.2 on linux, or MSJVM on windows.

  • Is it possible to install a WCS on Linux/Debian ?

    Hello,
our custom, ask me if is it possible to install a WCS on Linux/Debian ?
Thank you for your help !!!
    Laurent

    Hey Laurent,
according to the data sheet, it won't be possible :/
Datasheet:Cisco WCS can be deployed on a customer-supplied server running one of the following operating systems:
    • Windows 2003 SP1, or subsequent service packs. Windows 2008 is not a supported platform
    • Redhat Linux AS/ES v4.0 (Release 4.2 and later) and Redhat Linux AS/ES v5.0 (Releases 4.2.x or 5.0 or later)
    • VMware ESX Server 3.0.1 or later. (Minimum hardware requirements for a dedicated and guaranteed VMware server: Intel® Xeon Quad CPU; 3.15 GHz, 8-GB RAM, 200-GB HDD)

  • Flash Player 10.1 for Linux Debian 64bits

    Hello
I am a Debian Lenny 64bits user and I trying to install flash player 10.1 or something that can play the flash files in webpages, my web browser is "Iceweasel", the default browser in Debian linux, It's based in Mozilla Firefox code.
I can't configure the flash player, I'm really desesperate.
In the Downloads section of Adobe's website there arent any version for 64bits debian based linux (or I can't found It).
I have searched in forums.adobe.com and other forums but the solutions that I have found don't work or the browser simply crashes.
I tryed to install flash player 10.1 for i386 ubuntu (debian based) architecture with the ia32-libs and the workaround emulation but It didn't work either.
The open source swf players dont play the version 10 files.
Somebody knows how to install adobe flash player 10.1 in a 64bits Debian based system or how can I do to view correctly the flash contents in web pages without installs windows or 32bits linux? (I need this 64bits Debian system for my job)
Why Adobe compiles the 32bits debian package and don't compiles the 64bits? however Adobe compiles native 64bits versions for private operating systems like Microsoft or MacOS. I think that Adobe must be renewed in this topic (or disclose the source code and don't make monopoly).
    PD: sorry for my English

I have an embedded ati x1250 in an asus m2a-vm motherboard, I bought this motherboard because in that moment asus gave full support in 64bits linux debian based systems.
At this moment asus and amd only provides full support for this chipset on 64bits red-hat based linux and de source code produces error dependences in debian linux, I am using the fglrx that provides debian linux but It don't works correctly and the 3D sometimes crashes the x window system.

  • Adobe Acroread 8.1.7 and Linux Debian slow search

Hello, we use stations with Debian and Iceweasel as default browser. The company often uses PDF files, and thus the plug-in version 8.1.7 Acrobat Reader to view these files.
What we have noticed after upgrading from versions prior to 8.1.7 this is an excessive delay in the survey in PDF documents, as we have workstations using Microsoft Windows XP on the same hardware configuration for the same query is made much more effective .
I already redid the installation of Iceweasel and continues with the same problem, someone already went through this same problem? Any idea or suggestion on how to solve this problem?
Is there a patch or update to version 8.1.7? I would not have to perform a downgrade in the version of the plugin, even for security issues.

  • There is a version for Linux Debian Labview 2011?

    Hello ...
I am developing a remote service and one of the objectives is that this database is a server with Debian operating system, I searched the LabView 2011 for Debian GNU / Linux and have not found it, if anyone knows? Also of LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control also for this operating system?
Or any way I can develop my service in windows and then perform a type of application that runs very well considering my database with this server?
Thank you very much and see you soon

I have not tried Labview for Linux on Debian (You really need to mention the version). You could try it and see if it works. Note, Labview for Linux only runs 32 bit. The compatibility issue is highly dependen on your 32 bit library.
Even though NI keep saying they are going to support Linux  more, I notice they keep saying it for years but heir support is not very good.
I suggest you do a client server relationship. You could install a client software on Windows  (you did not mention the type of data base to be used, files, postgres, mysql, hadoop, etc). The client support for windows is dependent on your client support.
Another alternative is to use Network Shared variables. You can host it on the Windows machine and use tcp/ip to fetch the data directly from the  windows machine. There are many choices. The information you provide is mininal at best.

  • Netctl: Retry connection on DHCP failure

So I'm in the following situation:
Our university wireless network often has DHCP issues and it takes thousands of millions of retries until you finally get an address. The problem is, netctl-auto doesn't retry to connect to the network on a failure. It just stops doing anything.
Is there a way to get netctl to retry a profile until it's working when there are no other networks in range configured?
    Wolle

Anyone looking at this should check this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=190141
Basically, it boils down to adding "-b" switch to dhcpcd.

As for insight, this is why it's called "unsupported." Note there is no BIOS on the Xserve, there is only EFI, so you need a version of Linux that can work with an EFI based machine. Look for some Linux tools which let you boot Linux via EFI... Google may help here.

  • Java SE Embedded for ARM9 (ARMv5 Linux - Headful) gets rmiregistry failure

    Hi, all,
I am using a embedded platform with TI Davinci ARM9 processor. I meet a technical problem when using Java SE Embedded 6 for ARM9 (ARMv5 Linux - Headful). I have a Java program working well in the PC with Java virtual machine.
However, when this Java program can not run in the embedded platform. There is an error reported: "failed to start rmiregistry". The detailed error message is below:
    rmi:
    [java] rmiregistry not running
[java] The RMI registry is not running, it will be started now.
[java] If running under Windows you may have to hit ctrl-C after
[java] it has been started and re-run the ant command.
[java] Trying to start rmi registry: rmiregistry
[java] Trying to start rmi registry: nullrmiregistry
[java] Trying to start rmi registry: /bin/rmiregistry
[java] Trying to start rmi registry: null/bin/rmiregistry

[java] Trying to start rmi registry: null\bin\rmiregistry.exe

    [java] rmiregistry not running
[java] java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: ; nested exception is:
    [java]      java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused
I searched in the Java SE Embedded, there is no the file named rmiregistry. However, there is a file named rmiregistry in the PC's Java. Is it the reason caused the failure? Is the package of Java SE Embedded not complete? Anyone get idea how to solve this problem?
    Thanks.
    Best Rgds,

  • Mass Storage - Linux - Debian Wheezy

I have just connected my phone to my Debian Wheezy machine in a hope that unlike Samsung, Sony will have Mass Storage as a option insted of MTP (Media Transfer Mode) / PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol).
    # uname -a
    Linux PrecisionM6600 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.63-2+deb7u2 x86_64 GNU/Linux

But I have been mistaken, when connected, I had offer by the phone to install software on my
PC so I agreed and end up with virtual CD-ROM to install Windows software and no Mass Storage

Why is there no support for Linux / Mass Storage on Z3?

If you have an external SD card in your phone you can connect this in MSC instead of MTP. You can set this under Settings -> Xperia Connectivity -> USB Connectivity -> USB connection mode. But the phones internal storage can only be connected using MTP. As i understand it, this is because MSC would require your PC to have exclusive access to the memory and the phones internal storage is used by the apps and OS so it can't be used for MSC.
