Linux distributions supported on Oracle 8i and 9i

Hello,
Can you please provide me with the web page which compiles certification information on Linux distributions for 8i and 9i, I cannot seem to find a page which does such a compilation.
Also, this is to the responder - do you work for Oracle?
Thanks in advance.

Yeah I saw that but...
Which version of Oracle can I install?
I have RH 9.0 basic version ($30.00 from best buy).
I am interested in learning Oracle with Linux for my own personal use at home.
ie
I used to have Oracle Personal 8i on my Windows 98 SE machine. Now I see Oracle Server for RH AS 9.0 (or something) and no Oracle 9i or 8i for RH 9.0 most basic edition.
Sorry... Linux begginner and I forgot my version of RH 9.0.
I am a C++ developer on Windows and use the OCI 7 and 8 wih MSVC 6.0 (at work). I would like to use same OCI wrapper with C at home on Linux.
Thanks

    Which version of RAC?
Also, what kind of processors will you be using?
The easiest way to find out what you need is on the 'Certify' tab on Metalink. It can tell you exactly what you need to know with only a few clicks of the mouse.

  • IDE Support for Oracles Forms and Reports

    Hi All,
I am beginning a software integration project and would really appreciate it if you could give me some guidance. I wish to find an IDE that will support Oracle Forms & Reports (6i and 9i/10g) development (in particular support for coding of .rdf and .fmb files) either natively or via a plug-in. Is anyone aware of such an IDE or plug-in? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your input Jacob, that answered my question. I was wanting to know if there was any IDE that could be used to develop fmb's or rdf's, either natively or with a plug-in. From your response, I now know there are not.

  • Is Forté UDS version 5.1.3 supported on Oracle 10?

    Hi,
in the company I work in we've got applications developed in Forté UDS 5.1.3 and we've got Oracle 8.1.7
We're going to change Oracle version and we'd like to upgrade towards Oracle 10.
Someone has told me Forté UDS 5.1.3 is only supported on Oracle 9 and not on Oracle 10. Do you agree with that? Can you help me to undestand whether it's true or not?
    Thanks in advance!

There are documentation and certification matixes provided at http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/S1_UnifiedDevelopmentServer_35
Why not look there.. and contact Sun support to clarify?
From a pure client-server perspective - the Forte database interface for Oracle supports need to support OCI (or JDBC) as communication interface to Oracle. The question thus is whether or not this interface can use the later OCI driver versions (9i, 10g, 11g). As a 9i OCI client can for example connect successfully to a 10g or 11g database instance, Forte can likely be used with such a client to connect to a newer Oracle version.

  • Can Oracle 7i and 8i be connected from Oracle 9i database

I want to know if i can do the following. That means is it possible in production scenario. If yes then how and will it affect the performance to a great extend.
We are now upgrading the application server to weblogic 10.3 . But this server supports only Oracle 9i and above. But we have two more data server which are Oracle 8i and Oracle 7i. These databases will be upgraded later on but not now. So the problem is i can not connect to these Oracle database versions if i use Weblogic 10.3. So i wanted to know if there is any possibility of connecting the application server to a intermideate Oracle 9i database which will act as a bridge from Application server to Oracle 7i and 8i. Can Oracle 9i connect to Oracle 7i and 8i. If yes then how. You can provide me online references if any.
Thanks in advance. Waiting for your reply.

The connection what you are refering is from a normal pc to Oracle 7i or 8i database. But i want to connect from Oracle 9i to Oracle 8iWhen connecting from one db to another (via a db_link) the 'calling' db is just another client to the 'called' db. if you can connect to 7.x (there was no 7i) with a 9.x sqlplus, then you should be able to connect with a 9.x database. At a previous job, we did something similar to get an app compiled against 8.1 to use a 10.2 database - set up a 9.2 intermediary that had nothing but db_links and synonyms pointing on to the 10g.
However, I wouldn't bet the company on making your scenario work. You really should upgrade your databases first.

  • Is SQLPlus supported by oracle cloud?

    Hi,
I'm creating a database system using SQLPlus which will be stored/connected to the cloud. I've been made aware that SQLPlus is not supported by Oracle Cloud and that I should use SQL Developer, is this true or will SQLPlus be supported by Oracle Cloud?

The Oracle Cloud is a broad term, but the Oracle Database Cloud Service does not support SQL*Net connections, which rules out SQL*Plus.  There are much easier ways to create database objects with the Database Cloud Service, including SQL Developer and SQL Workshop in Application Express.  Both of these tools will also run SQL scripts, which is how SQL*Plus works, if you would prefer that.
The upcoming DBaaS offering will include a dedicated database instance in a virtual machine, but that is not slated to be available for a while.
    Hope this helps.

  • Attention! About problems with Oracle 8.1.6 on newer Linux distributions!!

Hello all, I've just got some feedback from a helful person at http://www.crunge.com/ about the problems concerning RedHat Linux 7.0 and Oracle 8.1.6, this MAY apply to other newer linux distributions.
    I've tried, without luck, to install Oracle on RedHat 7.0 and Slackware 7 (the newest one), and it would not install properly, kept stopping right about when the database initialization started at 80% finished install procedure. Sp i wrote them a mail, not expecting an answer really, but I did got an answer, and below is what the person said;
    Thanks for the feedback.
Oracle 8.1.6 does not work under Red Hat Linux 7. Yes, that's the problem
that I mentioned in the doc--you get to 80% and the DBCA crashes and the
    Oracle executables die.
I've heard, but I haven't tried it myself, that if you install the latest
glibc errata (2.1.94) then the DBCA completes but the Oracle executables
still die. The DBCA problem was apparently a Java issue that is fixed in
the errata. But you're still out of luck since the exes won't work.
It might appear that this is a problem with Red Hat Linux 7. But it appears
that it is a problem with some assumptions that Oracle made, assumptions
that worked with glibc 2.1.3 (the C library included with RHL 6.2) but which
prove false with later glibc versions. As other Linux distributions adopt
the new glibc Oracle will fail to work on them as well.
The best advice I can give at this point is to install and run Oracle on
Red Hat Linux 6.2. Hopefully Oracle will address the glibc issues with the
    8.1.7 release.
    Chris
    p.s. Do not construe this
as an official Red Hat response; I merely forwarded your e-mail from my
home account. This response and the web pages I put up are mine.
So i guess one sollution to the problem is to try a bit older version of the linux you are having problems with (i tried it on RH 6.1 and it worked like a dream).
Another solution can be to wait it out to check and see if Oracle put a fix out here on technet...?
Hope this helps people bogged down in fustration.

Hey all. Just to let you know that it is entierly possible to get Oracle to install under RedHat 7 and run happily. I have done it on two differenct machines. There is a bit of fooling with glibc to get it to work. However after you do that it works like a dream. VALinux has a work around posted at: http://ftp.valinux.com/pub/support/hjl/glibc/sdk/2.1/
The READEME.Oracle8i has the work around and the two tar balls are the necessary files. I followed the directions to the letter and they worked like a dream. Any questions feel free to drop me a line.

OK, so i followed your instructions to the letter (several times), sure I get past the 80% bug but now I have new erros coming up , -"Error in invoking target install of makefile /usr/oracle/sqlplus/lib/ins_sqlplus.mk". I get a whole series of these errors for various mk files. These errors apear during the link phase of the install, prior to the glibc workaround I was not getting this. I am a newbie to Linux and trying to give it a serious go but so far I have had little luck
    Any help appreciated.

  • Is RDAC supported in Oracle Unbreakable Linux kernel 2.6.32-100.0.19.el5?

    Dear,
Is RDAC supported in Oracle Unbreakable Linux Kernel 2.6.32-100.0.19.el5?
If supported, please point to the download link.
We require this in order to plan for the OEL 5.5 kernel upgrade to ULK and to connect SUN SAN storage array 6180.
    Thanks,
    ...basha

From what I can gather you will need to compile the driver from source in order to use the RDAC driver with the UEK kernel. Chances are that it won't compile properly under the UEK kernel, which is more up to date than the RHEL kernel.
You will have to start the system from the supplied original RHEL kernel in order to use the binary IBM RDAC driver distribution. The following is available: http://www.lsi.com/sep/Pages/rdac/ds4000.aspx and http://www.lsi.com/sep/Pages/rdac/ds3000.aspx
You may however be able to use Multipath, which is build in also in the UEK kernel. To get the current supported configurations for IBM System Storage it is best to use the interoperability matrices located at http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/storage/product/interop.html. You can use the link to the "System Storage Interoperation Center (SSIC)" to query your specific configuration (http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/support/storage/ssic/interoperability.wss)
