Linux Fencing Support for iSCSI switches...

Do any of the Cisco iSCSI network storage switches support Linux fencing agents? If so, which ones.
Thanks,
-Rich

There is no fencing control (port blocking) capabilities on the MDS9000 iSCSI interfaces. Port blocking control by a fencing agent is not available on the Line Card FC ports.

  • IS Prime DCNM support for 2960 switches

    Hi All,
There is a requirement for a NMS solution, Solution must have a single dashboard
but in the netwroks i am having 2960s, N2K, N5K, N7K, in order to mange this data-center network
do I need to quoted for Cisco LMS and DCNM or LMS is enough

The most comprehensive single product solution for those set of devices would be LMS. It does have limitations in managing the User Tracking, VLAN (provisioning primarily) and SAN aspects of the data center switches. Note Nexus 2ks are not separately managed, but rather viewed as an integral part of their controlling 7k or 5k.
LMS Catalyst 2960 support described here.
    LMS Nexus support described here.
DCNM is not really designed for IOS-based devices. It has some very limited support for the Catalyst 6500 but other than that it is primarily focued on the NX-OS-based data center products. See the DCNM Release Compatibility Matrix for more details. (And add the DCNM 6.1 release notes updates.)

  • Does Cisco NAC support for HP Switches

    Dear all,
the existing network has HP switches , is there any way i can deploy Cisco NAC solution here ?
    Pls revert .
    thanks ,

Cisco NAC has lots of limitations, and surly this is one of them. But while I respect the fact that cisco will not support NAC on HP switches. It can work. And it will perform just fine, once you understand “Cisco NAC” and able to configure it for the first time, you will be able to support it without the need of TAC.
The idea is that Cisco NAC sends commands to the switches on the network to apply specific access list or Vlan changes, since Cisco can only speak Cisco, it does not know how to tell other switches to do that. . The work around is that you would have the NAC running in in-line mode on your network, yes this will introduce a bottleneck, but that is the only way to do it. The NAC then will look at the traffic based on the MAC or IP and apply set of policies depending on the source or the destinations.
Please do your research and look at other NAC solutions before you decide the best vendor to go with.

  • Linux OAS support for interMedia

When will interMedia 8.1.5.4 for OAS 4.0.8.1 be available?
    Thanks,
    Andy

As I said, it tooks me a week of work... It4s not ease to supply a step by step procedure...
Try first to put working Apache with Intermedia in a configuration, and Apache with OAS in another.
I think this is the better aproach. If you solve all the problems that you will find, than I can give some details about to put the two together. Remember that the only way that you have to put Intermedia in Linux working it4s with the Apache as a listener. You can4t put Intermedia only with OAS.

  • Dell Equallogic SAN HIT Kit support for SAP in Linux 11.2

    Hello Everyone,
I would like to use an Equallogic SAN as storage in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11.2. Is the Equallogic SAN supported in Linux when using the HIT Kit to provide MPIO and snapshot support? The article from thorsten.staerk describes Equallogic SAN + Linux + native iSCSI (no mention of the HIT Kit). I understand that there are restrictions on using third party kernel modules.
My understanding is that the Equallogic MPIO driver will provide a faster, more efficient, connection to the SAN along with additional features.

The Dell EqualLogic HIT/Linux MPIO software consists of two components:
    1. The EqualLogic Host Connection Manager daemon, ehcmd, which monitors the iSCSI session state and the configuration of the Linux server and PS Series group. Running in the background, the ehcmd daemon uses the Open-iSCSI management tool (iscsiadm) to add, remove, or modify iSCSI sessions to maintain an optimal number of iSCSI sessions. It also gathers information on the volume layout from the PS Series group.
    2. A loadable kernel module, dm-switch, which implements a new Device Mapper target to the multipath devices. Based on the volume layout on the array members, the dm-switch module routes each I/O to the optimal path within the PS Series group.

I'll take a moment to provide an update on the solution. There were some issues with the initial configuration of the in guest iSCSI volumes. If I had to start from scratch, I would run all the storage through VMware. The last round of software updates appears to have resolved a potentially serious issue with iSCSI disconnects. iSCSI has run perfectly for two months now. I'll consider the issue resolved once I have six months without any iSCSI issues.
One remaining issue is that LVM won't initialize properly without implementing a custom init script. The init script work-around is simple and it works.

  • Why Apple does not offer support for linux?

We all know the history of Apple. It clearly shows a trend to be open source, excepting for the licenses they share with Microsoft. In my personal case, I love open source because it has solved several of my problems. Just to share this with everyone, I am the network manager of a educational institution and I used to have my servers running on windows platform. Since we used to buy it all from Microsoft, they would give us free software for or labs, software like Visual Studio. They even assigned us engineers to plan everything for our servers, free of cost. Guess what? It was a disaster. We had our database destroyed by an external attack. We were “lucky” to have Microsoft in our servers and in our firewalls.
We had to take action, so I decided to switch to Debian, and to use IPCOP (a great dedicated firewall, if there is anyone interested, the link is: http://ipcop.org/ , please note, I am NOT affiliated with them, and I will receive no compensation or benefit if you chose to access it or not ). Both open source. The result, no external attack has been able to pass trough. After that, we switched most* of our e-learning platforms to open source, and guess what? We are saving over 60,000 yearly just in software. So for those who are looking for a good way to get good security without loosing an eye, try open source.
Now back to the point, I do not fully support any operative system. They all have their good features, or at least they should. The ones I know, are because I use them. My home network is composed by computers running in five different versions of Linux, two running in Mac OS X Tiger, and some others running in XP pro. My main computer is running in Ubuntu, and is really sad to see that there is no software from apple available for Linux. That is honestly the worst part of Linux, having no iTunes or QuickTime available. No way to see multimedia in the web, etc. A suggestion for apple would be, give support for Linux, there are a lot of us wanting the same.

Apple makes software and hardware. Therefore they
offer a total solution. Now they even can have
windows xp running on their hardware. Making a
version of mac os to run on linix isn't practically.
Under a mac is unix and you can run unix software
with the mac so you could do ever thing you are
    doing with a mac.
I did not know Linux was one type of computer, like Mac...
Next topic, If I was willing to pay for it, this thread would not exist, because I can actually use a commercial software to adapt the windows web plug ins to Linux... If I was in charge of Apple, I would propose to develop free software support of my products, - plug ins and so - to other operative systems... But of course, even if I did, it would not be up to me. It would have to pass trough several layers of bureaucracy, and it would take a lot of time to be approved or rejected.
Anyway, the main issue is, the three most important OS's are Windows, Linux, and Mac. And that can't be denied. Now you can even run Windows in a Mac PC, and vice versa... besides being fancy, what else could I do with a Mac PC using Windows, when I can build a machine able to run Windows for less than 300 bucks? OK if you want to try a Mac in a i386 or a x86... but I still rather to be the proud owner of a PowerMac G5 than the owner of a Pentium 4 / AMD using Mac OS.
Also, I thought it would be fun to see the reactions and opinions of other people with this topic, hence, I was not expecting anyone from Mac to read it, and really do something about it, because I know they won't.

  • Enum class not supported for switch() statement in 12.4 beta?

    Hi fellow 12.4 beta testers,
It would appear "enum class" isn't supported for switch() statements in the 12.4 beta. This compiles fine under clang and g++. Will this be fixed for the final release? This currently causes compile errors for us, since __cplusplus >= 201103L evaluates to true, so our code uses "enum class" instead of plain "enum". It looks like the C++11 standard says it should be supported:

Thanks for reporting this problem! I have filed bug 18499900.
BTW, according to the C++11 standard, the code is actually not valid. Section 6.4.2, switch statement, says an implicit conversion to an integral type is required, which is not the case for for a scoped enum (one using the "class enum" syntax). This limitation was raised in the C++ Committee as an issue to be fixed, and the C++14 standard makes the code valid.
As a workaround, or to make the code conform to C++11, you can add casts to int for the enum variable and the enumerators.

  • Oracle support for Weblogic 7 under LINUX

    Hi,
Does anyone know what happened to oracle support in weblogic 7.0 for linux platform,
as it seems that the drivers are not included? Are there any discussions on that
    topic anywhere?
    thanks.
    Zlatko

It DOES appear that there is support for WebLogic jDriver for Oracle on Linux:
    see http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/certifications/certifications/redhat_linux.html#39532
The strange thing here is that, apparently, the Oracle drivers located @ lib/linux/i686/oci817_8/libweblogicoci38.so
and lib/linux/i686/oci817_8/libweblogicoxa38.so are "Type 2" ODBC drivers which
require an Oracle client to be installed on the WebLogic machine, but Oracle doesn't
support installation of the client on RedHat 7.2, which is required (according
BEA's doc) for installation of WebLogic 7.0. Can someone reconcile this apparent
    conflict?

    Hi
It is supported. .3 and .4 are just service packs and we do support them as per "compatible support". Meaning it is maybe not formally tested but we do troubleshoot related issues by extension of RH5 support.

  • New Linux distribution with support for VT-d on W520

I just released Centrych, which is a productivity oriented desktop. It's based on Ubuntu and has kernels that are optimized for desktop use.
Being a W520 owner, I've added a patch that allows you to enable VT-d in the 64bit version. It also supports UEFI, if you're interested in using that.
There's quite a few other features as well, the website is http://www.centrych.org.
    Hope you like it.

    I would recommend Ubuntu.
No OS is likely to have drivers for everything straight out of the box.
Even windows would need to have drivers supplied for some hardware if you were to reinstall with a retail copy of XP.
The oem distribution that comes installed on your notebook has these drivers installed already - that's the biggest part of an oem windows distribution.
For Ubuntu, typically you have to edit a line in a config file to make the sound work.
I had to also install the proprietary firmware for my wireless.
    Both work great now.
The reason that you don't have mp3 capability in linux distribution is for legal reasons.
I'm sure someone here who is more gpl literate could give you chapter and verse on exactly why, but the bottom line is that you have to install support for certain av formats manually, usually by selecting the Restricted Extras package.
To my limited knowledge, that won't change with a different distribution.

  • Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 - Support for Cisco Catalyst 3560-C Series Switches

    Hello together
I have a customer which uses the following switch. Last year I have installed LMS 4.1 for him to manage the switches. Unfortunatly the switch model is not supported. According to the information found on the following site the switch is supported for most of the modules in LMS:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.1/device_support/table/lms41sdt.html
The oid object of the device is the following: 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1465
Supported Software: 12.2(55)EX (Customer has 12.2(55)EX3
    Version Support Type: Device Update
So I updated all device updates I was able to find.
Step 1: For that I went to Admin > System > Software Center > Schedule Device Downloads and created a job where I have downloaded the latest versions of all packages.
Step 2: Installed the downloaded packages Admin > System > Software Center > Device Update and installed all the packages.
Unfortunatly I don't see the same result like described in the Supported Device Table for LMS 4.1.
    - Cisco View -> works
    - Inventory and Config Collection -> works
    - Fault Monitor not working -> Error Code Unsupported
    - Network Topology Layer 2 Services -> Device Type ciscoProducts.1465, Symbol Question Mark
    - VLAN Management -> Doesn't work
    - User Tracking > seems also not to work
When I open the report for supported devcies (Reports > System > Device Support) and search for C3560C... I find the following devices, but not mine which i need:
    C3560C-8PC-S     .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1466
    C3560CG8PC         .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1317
    C3560CCG8TC     .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1318
    wsC3560CPD8ptS     .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1368
Does anybody have experience with the same switch type / model? Am I doing something wrong or is this type of switch not implemented correctly till now? Further the docuemntation supported devices would be wrong.
    Thanks for any feedback Erich

Thanks but I just heard back from my Cisco SE and he assures me that an AP will NOT use up a license.
I've asked him to verify his answer for me.
Is your answer based on real world expereince (the best there is)?  That is, are you running Prime LMS 4.1 and does it indeed use up a license for each light-weight AP it discovers & manages?
Thanks for mentioning options 1-3 but I do not wish to employ any of them.  I don't mind buying the additional licenses for APs ... I just need to know if I have to or not.
