Install VMware Fusion, Parallels, Sun's VirtualBox.
Download the debian installation DVD or CD image.
Point your choice of virtual machine software at that installation image, and go.

Linux installation problem on D20

I am trying to install Redhat Linux x86_64 5.3 on D20 with a Marvell 88SE63xx/64xx SAS controller. As the Linux installer cannot recognize the SAS controller, I download a driver of Marvell mv64xx for Redhat x86_64 5.2 from Lenovo driver matrix website. Unfortunately, no matter how I follow the instruction to load the driver, the so-called mv64xx doesn't drive the Marvel 88SE63xx/64xx SAS controller in D20, so that the Redhat 5.3 Linux installer cannot find any hard drive. This is ridiculous and ironic because I got 5 SAS 15rpm hard drives in D20. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem and get Redhat Linux 5.3 installed on D20 with SAS drives?

the kernel included the mvsas module and its dependant, and ran out of the box doing anything. and yes, it's a software raid, the bios offers raid 5 and 10, but they are greyed out. okay, my graphic is now broken with 2.6.31-1, but hey, the 5 port's are working i almost forgot where i have put the 500gb disk. hdparm -tT showed 7.8gb/s buffered and 77mb/s normal read, which is normal for the drive.
because of the nature of a module, i believe you have to compile a kernel with support of mvsas on your own to boot linux from it, or you use the ich10 - only for optical drives - sata port, which works fine with the intel x25-m ssd.

Linux installer missing from Solution Accelerator 9.5 Download

The only solution accelerator download that I find at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=solution_accelerators is Solution_Accelerator_9_5_WWEFDJ_Win.zip.
The installation document (install_sa.pdf)) says to run the Linux installer from "/Disk1/InstData/Linux/NoVM" however when I unpacked the .zip download file I only see Windows installers.
I've installed ES 2.5 from the provided virtual appliance which is a SUSE Linux system so I require the Linux installer. Any ideas where I can find the Linux installer?

Yes, same thing happens to me, I've downloaded lc_es2_connector_for_sharepoint_9.0.0.2_v1_win_jboss.zip since I've been using the Suse Linux Appliance installed from Adobe as trial (LiveCycleES2SP2.x86_64-0.0.4).
and now I'm stuck since the 86 MB zipped file doesn't have anything to do with the Linux Virtual Appliance (eg. no linux installation files ?).

Make sure you have it set to "show hidden files"
Check BOTH places and you have to restart Finder
Press "Quit This" and then go to the Finder Dock icon and right click it
Select "Open"
Open TIme Machine
Go back to September 28 or earlier.
You'll see the mach_kernel file in the Mac HD directory
(I can't show it in the TM because screenshots don't work while it's open but here it is in my MAc HD)
Right click it and select "Restore to"
Then, when it goes back to Finder, choose the Mac HD directory and click OK.
It will place the mach_kernel back where it was and you can install software again
DON'T FORGET to go back and hide your files (and restart Finder) again, or you'll have a mess with the clutter of hidden files everywhere.

How to disallow playback on Linux (or Windows or Mac)

A question recently came up from a customer asking how to exclude Linux support in their policies, with specific questions surrounding the "VersionInfo" class. Adobe's response is as follows:
To exclude Linux, you simply need to construct a VersionInfo instance as follows:
VersionInfo vi = new VersionInfo();
vi.setOS(“Linux”);
and add the vi instance to the excluded version list in the policy. All the fields in VersionInfo are optional, so they can specify just one of the fields or any combination. If the client’s version matches all the values specified in VersionInfo, that client will be unable to play the content. A few examples:
1. OS = Linux, no other fields set -> Linux clients cannot play, Mac/Windows can play
2. OS = Linux, application = AIR -> Linux AIR clients cannot play, Mac/Windows and Flash Player on Linux can play
3. application = AIR -> AIR clients on all platforms cannot play, Flash Player clients on all platforms can play
In the VersionInfo Javadocs, the values listed after “for example” are examples of the currently supported strings (Win, Mac, Linux). We’ll make this clearer in future documentation.
If the VersionInfo restriction is present in the policy, the Flash Access SDK will automatically include this info in the license that is generated. To the extent possible, the SDK will also ensure that the client requesting the license will be able to use that license (i.e. the SDK will throw an error if the license is expired or if the client is on the blacklist, but the SDK cannot verify some restrictions, such as output protection or SWF/AIR restrictions). Regardless of whether the server SDK enforces the license restrictions, the client will always automatically enforce the restrictions in the license – the client application does not need to do anything special.

On many UNIX systems there's a utility called detach which will launch the following command in such a manner that killing the shell will not kill the process. On systems that lack this command, I'd find an open source implementation and install it.

You do not need to involve Creative Cloud to install/try the trial version of CS5...
You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

How do you as an Linux user switch to Mac and I Photo with example 30,8 GB 133 094 221 824 byte) photos 20 791 files , in 1 069 folders
How do I import them in a proper way that it make easy to find them in I Photo can I find them with the ease as it were in Google Picasa2 in Linux ? Or do you have to import folder by folder?

As a new user I strongly suggest that you spend some time viewing the tutorials at

Secondly, I also suggest that you create a Library and import 100 or so pics and explore the app first. It's similar to Picasa, but also quite different. Best to get to know it.
How are your photos currently organised? In folders by date?
Date organisation is pretty pointless in iPhoto as you can find any pic taken on any day/month/year using the calendar tool or Smart Albums.
As you have 30k photos if you simply import them iPhoto will automatically split them into Events based on date. Expolore the options in iPhoto -> Preferences -> Events for how you might like them auto split: (Per day, per week etc.)
If you want to maintain your current organisation then simply uncheck 'Imported Items from Finder' and drag a folder of images to the Source (or left hand) pane in iPhoto. There the pics will be imported and an Album + an Event of the same name will be created. You can then create the enclosing folder (File -> New Folder) in iPhoto.
A note about Events and Albums:
Events in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library package file (Right click on it in the Pictures Folder -> Show Package Contents).
You can move photos between Events, you can rename Events, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Event Name using the Info Pane, the Event Folder in iPhoto Library/Originals will also have the new name.
Albums reference the pics in the iPhoto Library Folder. There fore a pic can be in 1, 10 or 100 albums with no wasted disk space.
Keywords are a very powerful tool for organising in iPhoto, and are very well integrated in to Smart Albums. Check them out.
Many folks who switch from other Operating Systems seem to prefer to manage their files themselves. However, I do not recommend this with iPhoto.
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. It will create an alias to the Original file, a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them
3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, there are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.

To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Your choice, obviously, but best to be aware of all the ramifications. By all means post back if you require more info.
Lastly: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss

No installation cd for mac?

I bought PSE9 this summer (2011). According to the seller would PSE9 work to install for both Mac and PC. I installed on my pc which worked fine but now when I should install on my new Imac I discover that there are no installation cd for mac? Is there any change to install it from adobe and refer to my serienumber?

I bought it from one of the largest media store in Sweden called Onoff. Unfortunately, Onoff was bankrupt this summer so I can not go back.
If I look at the installation cd there are a windows logotype on it. Maybee this "PSE9 box" I bought is only for windows and the seller in the store didn't know.
