Linux on iSeries

Hi All,
Is there anyone out there running SAP on an iSeries where Linux is the OS, and IBM DB2 is the database?
If so, what are your experiences?
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,
I would agree, your question is not completely precise here ....
Are you looking for an APPL server on Linux on Power or do you want to run the CI there and then with a different DB than DB4 ?
There would be the choices DB6, MaxDB & Oracle.
If you are asking for DB6, you should know, that in this config there is no difference at all to any other unix SAP implementation - it has NOTHING to do with i5 OS ...

  • Linux App Servers on iSeries C.I.?

    Just a quick question if anyone can help me.
    If it possible to attache Linux App Servers to a iSeries SAP server the same as you can Windows?
    I have a consultant on site who is sure you can. I have no idea if you can. I'd never heard of it before. Only Windows.
    Thanks.

  • WLS 8.1.2 on SuSE Linux 8 / IBM iSeries Model 890

    We will be installing WLS 8.1 SP2 on a SuSE Linux 8 logical partition (LPAR). The
    hardware is an IBM iSeries Model 890 (Power 4).
    The IBM platform is new to me, let alone LPAR's. What kind of challenges will
    we cross with shared resources like RAM, CPU, etc?
    Has anyone had any experience working with WLS on a logical partition?

    Look, nobody should be going to anything other than 901 on 7.2.
    Do you like to waste your time? Fastcenter sells these systems,
    they install without a flaw and they're rock solid. Why install
    a version that's unsupported ?!?

  • Oracle 11g and iSeries ODBC 32/64bit version???

    Hi folks,
    I've some questions....
    I need setup a new server with Oracle db 11g and from this db i need setup a DBLINK to an IBM iSeries (AS/400) server. I've some doubts about the 32/64 bit version to use.
    My idea is:
    Oracle Linux 64bit
    Oracle Database 11g 64bit
    Oracle Gateway 11g 64bit
    IBM i Access ODBC driver 64bit ( maybe 7.1 version?!?!?!)
    Do you think I'll be able to achieve my goal with this configuration?
    Else where can you suggest me a valid and wonrking configuration?
    Thank you very much!!!!
    bye bye

    Emilio,
    That combination of products should work, as long as the ODBC driver is 64-bit and satisfies the ODBC driver criteria listed in the documentation.
    If you have access to My Oracle Support have a look at this note -

    I have looked up the errors on Oracle forums and could not get any valuable help anywhere.
    Can someone kindly help out where I am going wrong?
    Thanks,
    Ram.

    Hello kgronau,
    Thank You very much for your recommendations.  I removed the parameter HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 255.
    I added HS_FDS_FETCH_ROWS=1 and also HS_NLS_NCHAR = UCS2
    Tested my sql statement, which yielded the result as follows:
    SQL> select * from mdiaz.AREMAIL@samplink;
    select * from mdiaz.AREMAIL@samplink
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
    ㈵″㠵6
    SO I thought I would give a try of removing the line HS_NLS_NCHAR = UCS2
    and again tested my sql statement and it worked like a charm!!!!
    I tested a count(*) and got the results back.
    SQL> select count(*) from mdiaz.AREMAIL@samplink;
      COUNT(*)
           600
    I really appreciate your valuable pointers and help.
    Thanks once again!!!
    Ram.

  • Migration from OS/400 (iseries) case in-sensitive OS to UNIX (AIX) case sensitive

    Apparently as400 is not case sensitive OS, AIX is so this is causing issues after the migration to UNIX (AIX).  What do you recommend for analysis of what will need correction in SAP system - config / tables entries / variants / code?  Is there a way to make UNIX files case insensitive?

    Hi Vinoth,

    Above migration path is possible and support in SAP. For more details on compatibility please refer PAM www.service.sap.com/PAM
    To perform this migration refer to Heterogenous system copy guide available at SAP service marketplace.

    Is there someone that can help me?
    Regards
    Benedetto

    I'm running IBM WebSphere Development's Development Studio Client for the iSeries 5.1.2. and I'm all of sudden receiving this same message...
    JVMXM004: JVM is performing abort shutdown sequence
    JVMDG217: Dump Handler is Processing a Signal - Please Wait.
    JVMDG303: JVM Requesting Java core file
    JVMDG304: Java core file written to
    C:\WDSC512WS\Workspace\CMRWITEST\javacore.20041210.080731.3332.txt
    JVMDG215: Dump Handler has Processed Exception Signal 11.
    When I look at the javacore.20041210.080731.3332.txt file, to tell the truth, I can't make heads or tails of what the problem really is.
    If anyone can help or at the very least, head me down some path to troubleshoot it would be greatly appreciated.

  • 2.1ea2  iSeries DB2 jdbc driver

    Has anybody installed it and got it to work? The latest for the iSeries is jt400.jar, but I can't get it to work. It says there is a java class error.

    I'm not really sure if the iSeries migration is already covered. The DB2 connection tab is in my opinion only for DB2 UDB V8 and V9.
    Those UDB releases on LUW (Linux,Unix and Windows) have the jdbc driver installed in the DB2 home and you simply need to copy the libraries db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cisuz.jar to SQL Dev and link them.
    But those drivers don't work with my iSeries V6 - I'll get an error message.
    Not sure where you saw the connection using those 2 jar files worked against an AS400 .. but if you want to test, them, you need to download DB2 Connect or a trial UDB database for Windows or Linux.

  • Changing UID in iSeries

    Hi all,
    I am running ECC 6.0 SR3 on IBM iSeries V5R4
    I'm trying to share transport directories between two sap instances via CHGR3SHLOC.
    I can run the command successfully, but in STMS I got message:
    Don't have permission to folder /usr/sap/trans/bin
    According to sapnote 69429, the UID (User ID) and GID (Group ID) must always be identical.  When I try to change the UID of <sid>OFR with QSECOFR via CHGUSRPRF, it says that I'm not allowed to change UID. The complete message is as follows:
    CPF22DC, The UID of a user profile may not be changed when the profile is the owner of an object in a directory.
    Can anyone please advise on how to change the UID so it will be the same in both instances?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Pandu

    Hi Pandu,
    I would say, you are on the wrong path here ;-(
    This note describes the issues when using NFS - this is typically NOT done as QFileSvr.400 is used, except, you are using Linux Appl servers.
    => I guess, that it is very easy: User and password have to match on both boxes - I'm pretty sure, this is not the case ...

  • D4ODBC to Iseries DB2 400, not resolving @ and #

    I have a Oracle Linux 64 bit server running Oracle 11.2 (AL32UTF8).  I have Oracle database gateway for ODBC installed along with UNIXODBC 2.3 with iseries for linux odbc driver.  I am connecting to an AS/400 system that is running DB2 400 using a database link.  The AS/400 is using CCSID=65535.  Everything is working well except there are a few symbols that the Oracle is not resolving.  What appears on the AS/400 as @ appears as Ö in the oracle view on the AS/400 table.  What appears as a # on the AS/400 appears as a Ä on the oracle view of the AS/400 table.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    This is what my gateway ini file looks like:
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = usmas1
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = off
    HS_FDS_SHAREABLE_NAME = /usr/lib64/libodbc.so.1
    HS_NLS_NCHAR = UCS2
    HS_LANGUAGE=american_america.WE8EBCDIC37
    HS_RPC_FETCH_REBLOCKING=OFF
    #HS_FDS_FETCH_ROWS=1
    HS_FDS_SQLLEN_INTERPRETATION=64
    # ODBC specific environment variables
    set ODBCINI=/etc/unixODBC/odbc.ini
    # Environment variables required for the non-Oracle system
    #set <envvar>=<value>
    set DB2CODEPAGE=37

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to create a data source connection to iSeries database in SharePoint Designer.
    I recommend to link the iSeries DB2 database to the SQL and then create one or more views to the linked server on a SQL database.
    After that, create the data connection to the database where we used to create the views to the linked server to see if the issue can be fixed.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Business Intelligence on iSeries suggestions

    Sorry if this is already out here but I guess I'm not forming my queries very well today. Does anyone have any suggestions for Business Intelligence on the iSeries? Our SAP rep has suggested BOBJ Edge but I don't see any iSeries versions of that (Windows and Linux only). Has anyone used any of the BOBJ packages on the iSeries or something like Edge with connectors to the ERP system on the iSeries. I saw a few BW on iSeries threads. Is that the hot setup in iSeries world? What are the differences between BOBJ Edge and BW on iSeries?

    Hi Rick,
    I would collect info on "what kinds of reports are most needed for the business" (particular WM orders, costing info, HCM data, etc) and "what frontend reporting formats are expected/accepted", then discuss the options with BOBJ/BW consultants. Note that BW and BOBJ are not mutually exclusive with each other - you could have ERP->BW->BOBJ, in which BW provides predefined data transfer structure from ERP to BW, datacubes, queries, etc and BOBJ provides nice frontend tool for better data presentation. Meanwhile as infocubes/data are not physically in BOBJ side, the database maintenance work is not as demanding as ERP or BW.
    Sorry that I am not an expert on BW or BOBJ...
    Best regards,
    Victor

  • OpenMQ on iSeries

    Hi,
    I have modified some of the scripts in mq/bin of the Linux installation to get OpenMQ running on the iSeries.
    Is it legal for me to distribute those to our customers? (i.e. zip the openmq/ dir with all modified scripts and distribute that zipfile)
    Thanks,
    Brecht

    Below are the only two changes.
    Basically its:
    - changed the java path in the config file
    - removed some jvmarguments not supported by IBM iSeries Java
    The diff is kinda the wrong way around, but it gives an idea...

  • OSPatterns.xml for iSeries / JSPM install

    Hi guys,
    We have just installed SAP PI 7.1 on an iSeries 6.1 server, all is 100% fine except we cannot get the JSPM to start properly, the error is:
    The execution ended in error.
    Cannot initialize application data.
    *Could not detect operating system.*
    *Cannot determine OS version from command uname.*
    We are running JSPM version 7.10.4.0.2.4.9
    We initially assumed this was because of a codepage error but now I am thinking it *may* be something wrong with the OSPatterns.xml file situated in JSPM/config/OSPatterns.xml
    We are running a 64 bit Power Processor iSeries machine, can you please tell me if these setting look of to you guys?
    Here are the required XML variables first:
    <ColumnName>os.name</ColumnName>
    <ColumnName>os.arch</ColumnName>
    <ColumnName>OS_TYPE</ColumnName>
    <ColumnName>OS_FAMILY</ColumnName>
    <ColumnName>OS_ARCH</ColumnName>
    And here are the setting we have for iSeries:
    <!-- OS/400 with IBMJVM -->
       <StringArray>
         <StringValue>OS/400</StringValue>
         <StringValue> *PowerPC* </StringValue>
         <StringValue>OS400</StringValue>
         <StringValue>AS400</StringValue>
         <StringValue>64</StringValue>
       </StringArray>
       <!-- OS/400 with SAPJVM -->
       <StringArray>
         <StringValue>OS400</StringValue>
         <StringValue> PowerPC </StringValue>
         <StringValue>OS400</StringValue>
         <StringValue>AS400</StringValue>
         <StringValue>64</StringValue>
       </StringArray>
    The PowerPC highlighted above used to be BLANK.....but do the above settings look ok to you?
    Thanks for the help
    Lynton

    Hi Lynthon,
    Did you solve the JSPM start problem?
    Did you first update the JSPM itself using i.e. SDM
    You should run JSPM version 7.10.7 at least
    Then you can start JSPM.
    I found out an alternative way to start JSPM server and GUI native on i, and then controlling the JSPM GUI using VNC.
    Here is how:
    Get the vnc server for i software from:
    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21243973
    put it in a savf
    CRTSAVF FILE(QGPL/Q5799PTL)
    TEXT('iSeries Tools for Developers PRPQ (5799PTL)')
    ftp binary mode your file to i
    put q5799ptl_v5r4m0.savf q5799ptl
    Restore lic
    RSTLICPGM LICPGM(5799PTL) DEV(*SAVF) LNG(2924) SAVF(QGPL/Q5799PTL)
    Now you have a VNC server on your i.
    allow multi threaded jobs:
    ADDENVVAR ENVVAR(QIBM_MULTI_THREADED) VALUE(Y)
    Continue as mentioned in OSS 1257481 - SAP NetWeaver Inst. Based on Kernel 7.11: IBM DB2 for i
    Then start the vnc server as the <SID>ADM of your instance
    Start the vnc viewer on your local (NT, MAC, Linux, OS/2) PC: you now have a 64-bit graphical PASE/Linux environment running on your i
    Now how to start JSPM:
    Copy the gui file to the non gui file used by i/os:
    CPY OBJ('/usr/sap/NWD/DVEBMGS13/j2ee/JSPM/param/jspm_config.txt')
    TOOBJ('/usr/sap/NWD/DVEBMGS13/j2ee/JSPM/param/jspm-rui_config.txt') REPLACE(*YES)
    Now on the VNC viewer GUI, open the xterm console
    There you have a Linux 64-bit prompt, and there you can start jour JSPM:
    cd /usr/sap/<SID>/DVEBMGS<nn>/j2ee/JSPM
    (linux is case sensitive !!)
    check if you have the JSPM program:
    ls -l g*
    (you should see an executable go)
    start JSPM
    ./go
    It takes a few minutes, but then after a while a JSPM GUI is shown, while the JSPM server side is started in the <SID> SBS R3_<nn>
    No more local windows client is needed for JSPM, any OS can serve as a VNC viewer for your (remote) i
    Good luck,
    Paul Hoogendoorn
