Has anybody experience installing Linux on an Intel Server (latest edition) and install Oracle Database 10g ?
Any pointers or advice ? Thanks ..

I opened deinstall.pl with vi and jumped to line 217. There is nothing in line 217. Its the end of file. In line 216 is the following command:

Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition user license in Standard Edition

If I purchase Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition license (user or processor), and somehow if I decedided to downgrade the server from Enterprise Edition to Standard Edition, is these license still valid to apply to the Standard Edition server??

I'm sure Oracle would have no objection to you using a less expensive version, but you may want to run that question by your Oracle sales rep to see if there is a notification requirement.
Whether there would be an opportunity to get some level of refund, though, would be a question for your Oracle sales rep. I would tend to doubt it but you never know.

Java Mail throws Connect failed error in Oracle 11g Enterprise Edition

I am using Oracle 11g Enterprise edition.I have a java class which is used for reading outlook 2010 inbox and download attachments from mails .For Connecting to OutLook from oracle i am using "POP3S" protocol in my java class. Which is working fine until my database is oracle-11g standard edition. Last week we are upgraded our database from oracle 11g standard edition to oracle 11g enterprise edition after that i can't connect to mail server through my java class which throws an error as follows.

I suspect root cause is with Java not Oracle.
Oracle RDBMS does NOT speak any "protocol" except SQL natively.

As an OTN member. I had asked for free JDeveloper CD. Oracle corporation has
sent me JDeveloper and Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition release 2 version 8.1.6

When I try to install Oracle 8i it says installing oracle client. It gives me
options of administrator, programmer, user and custom. It installs oracle
client successfully. But oracle server is missing. So I can not connect to
server and do any database function. Please help me on this.
Let me know if on a standalone PC with Windows 98 installing Oracle 8i client
is enough. If not How do I get another software. If I am making any mistake please let me know.

In this forum only I have heard that people have found a way by putting a parameter in the win.ini file.A friend of mine tried it similarly but for him it is by default launching the Oracle8i client installation and not the server installation.Is there a way server installation can be done for Windows Millennium using Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition Release2(8.1.6)

You can set up the Enterprise Edition on either, and you can create databases with either.(The Oracle installation program installs the scott/tiger example databases.) What I haven't tried, and what you probably need the server version for, is an actual server running a real commercial database. If you are just a student and want to run EE to learn it, go for it. That is what I am doing.

Installing Oracle i Enterprise Edition on Win2K

I want to install 8i on this server. This server had few other products installed like Oracle 6i (Client only) and Jdeveloper on this machine. I have deinstalled these products but I am still getting the following error. What else needs to be removed and how to not get this error. I am choosing DEFAULT_HOME C:/orant when prompted.

Enter a different Oracle Home in the first screen of the Universal Installer, with a different directory, and it should work.

Windows client - Linux oracle server SSO through Win2003 DC

I'm trying to do SSO with the captioned setting, the outline can be simplified as below:
windows cleint --> Win2003 DC --> Linux Oracle server
Of course, the Linux server would issue kerberos ticket to the Windows client after which successfully authenticates with the Win2003 DC.
I have problem doing test connection for both Windows client & Linux server when connecting to the database. Both with error "ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed" when testing with Oracle Net manager. Listener & DB were both started.

Struts & Sun ONE Web Server Enterprise Edition 6.1

Is there a web page that explains how to install struts and Tiles so that all web pages on the server use the information. I am trying to install on Sun ONE Web Server Enterprise Edition 6.1.
I would like to do a company web site with one location for layouts, images, etc and then all later installed web applications can use this information.

Its wise to use Oracle THIN client, unless you will need any OCI specific features.
Oracle OCI driver requires that your client must have a Oracle Client installation to connect using OCI, but the thin driver only requires classes12.jar in the client host to connect.
