  • Requirement for RAC - Linux AS mandatory ?

    Does the standard Linux 8 version can be used for RAC R2 or we need only Linux AS for the RAC configuration.
    What is the linux requirement for the RAC R2 configuration ?
    Thanks,
    Ashok

    Thanks for the info.,
    could you tell me what firewire components you are using? I know that we need the fireware cards in the pcs/servers, the firewire hub, and the firewire drive. However, I am having difficulty identifying which firewire components to buy, ie., which ones are compatible with Linux Red Hat (AS). The Red Hat HCL revealed nothing to me. Any info you could give me on the components you are using would be greatly appreciated and save me a lot of time.
    Thanks again,

  • 11.1.0 on linux 64 bit

    I've been using 32 bit linux in production for years without major issues. I have some new 64 bit servers and decided to look at the 64 bit db again. I did this along time ago, but found we had some incompatibility issues with other required software. So, I installed 11.1.0.6, but I find I cannot patch to 11.1.0.7 cleanly. I have a SR open on this, but I just wonder if this is really a viable path or am I asking for headaches down the road. It seems creepy that the first thing I try to do with it goes into the toilet. Are people using 64 bit oracle db? On which OS? I'm on Red Hat 4. Perhaps that is the issue. Maybe Oracle Corp is dumping on RH like they did on Sun in the past. Is Oracle linux required now? I don't mean on paper, I mean in reality? I mean really when you think about it, why would that not be the case?

    Thanks, that's interesting to know. I've seen that sort of thing before where different verisons of the db only worked cleanly on a certain version of the OS, otherwise it was just a bunch of headaches, "supported" or not. Hmmm, RH5. I wish the support matrix would say what really works instead of what is sort of is supported.

  • Bash and Linux infrastructure references

    Hi,
    after 3 years using Linux I would like to improve my knowledge of bash to start writing some useful scripts which can make my life easier. Do you know any good manual (better if available online) which I can use to start learning it?
    I'm not particularly "bash savvy", I've simply used it quite often on my Arch Linux experience, but I would describe myself as a beginner.
    Moreover, if you have any other reference about Linux architecture will be appreciated. I've always struggle to understand some manual intervention Arch Linux require from time to time. Simply copy commands developers suggest us is quite annoying. After all this time I think is the right moment to become an intermediate Linux user.
    Cheers,
    Gianluca

    Linux From Scratch is a good way to learn Linux and all the things necessary to make a distribution.
    Other good learning references I know of require some knowledge of C and might be overkill for you:
    -The Linux Programming Interface : Although really aiming at developpers each chapter contain very valuable information about Linux architecture, ... It's a book you need to buy and it's relatively expensive.
    -Computer Science from the Bottom Up : Free online course which goes really close to the metal.

  • Lower case for paths on oes 2 linux?

    If I read the info correctly:
    gwcheck on linux requires everything in lower case, yes?
    What your data is on an NSS volume on OES2 SP1 linux?
    It seems that even if I make the volume in lower case, it always gets converted to upper case.
    Therefore, my path would be:
    /media/nss/VOLUME/something
    So that's not all lower case.
    Not to mention if you do a cluster migrate scenario, you may have existing volumes with upper case.

    It requires everything under the "PO" level to be lowercase in my
    experience. I haven't seen a problem with the volume name itself not being
    lowercase. Are you seeing issues?

  • 64-bit Linux driver/associated SPE API for the Omnikey CardMan 3821 card reader

    I am in the process of converting from a 32 bit to a 64 bit Linux machine. In the past I was able to use the SPE API for 32 bit Linux along with the 32 bit Linux ifdokccid device driver. However, using the speapi_lnx-amd64-1.0.1 along with ifdokccid_lnx_x64-3.7.0 isn't working for me. For example, when I attempt to do an SCardCCIDVerifyPIN function call, I get back a 6B80 APDU response. I noticed that the ifdokccid for 64 bit Linux requires PCSC lite 1.5.5, but the SPE API requires PCSC lite 1.2.9-beta7, which I'm guessing is not compatible. I am wondering if anybody has any ideas about how I should proceed to get my OMNIKEY 3821 reader to work in a 64-bit Linux environment?

    Alleluia!!!
    I think I will write a new rule for myself to follow :
    Thou shalt never use ndiswrapper again.
    Thanks a lot, wonder, and thanks to you too, Xyne.
    FYI, I tried to use something else than ndiswrapper before, but it didn't yield satisfying results. Anyway, thanks.

  • Safe to remove linux kernel when using linux-lts kernel?

    I'm using the `linux-lts` kernel on my work machine (less reboots after updates); I know in theory it should be safe to remove the normal `linux` kernel (and it's dependencies) but does anyone know if it is safe in practice? Nothing that assumes there will always be a `linux` package because without it there couldn't be a running system?

    This should be as easy to figure out, as comparing dependencies can be:
    linux-lts:
    Required By (5)
    archboot
    nvidia-lts
    r8168-lts
    virtualbox-archlinux-modules-lts
    virtualbox-modules-lts
    linux:
    Required By (15)
    archboot
    cdfs
    fcpci
    fcpcmcia
    lirc
    ndiswrapper
    nvidia
    open-vm-tools-modules
    r8168
    rt3562sta
    vhba-module
    virtualbox-archlinux-modules
    virtualbox-archlinux-modules (testing)
    virtualbox-modules
    virtualbox-modules (testing)
    That might mean, most notably, that infrared ports and cdemu-driven image mounts won't work with the lts kernel (or at least should not without pulling in the normal kernel).

  • Deploy Linux App

    hi guys, I've a problem with deployment of Linux app. My environment is under PKI and connection works without problem. I created a new package with reference to a public share and the program is yum install
    yum.plugin.downloadonly.noarch.yum. Deployment is the only one for Linux (required with fixed expire date).
    When I run yum list \*download\* I see everytime yum.plugin.downloadonly.noarch and so the package was not deployed.
    Compliance % is 0 but the Collection is right, because I can see the machine into this.
    What I can check?
    Thanks

    Check this documentation topic on TechNet:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj573943.aspx.   In particular, expand the "Packages and Programs" and "Deployments" sub-sections
    to see which options are supported for Linux and UNIX.   From your notes above, you will see that "run with user's right" is not supported, and that "run with UNC name" is ignored because the package content (if any -- sounds
    like you have an empty ConfigMgr package) is always downloaded from a DP.
    Finally note that the command line you specify in the ConfigMgr Program must be "exec"able.  By this I mean that ConfigMgr does not automatically supply a shell (just like it doesn't automatically include cmd.exe for Windows computers).
    So if your command line includes shell functions like pipes or output redirection, you will have to prefix the command line with /bin/sh -c and put your shell command in quotes.

  • Event Monitor on Linux question

    We are currently running NSM 2.0. The engine is version 2.00.37 running on a NetWare 6.5 sp7 server. The two event servers are version 2.00.15 running on NetWare 6.5 sp7 servers. We are needing to decommission the two servers that are our current event servers and replace them with SLES. No plans are in place to upgrade the server running the NSM engine. I see from the documentation that we will need to upgrade NSM to 2.5 in order to run the event servers on SLES. The documentation states "installing the NSM Event Monitor for Linux requires OES2-SP1 or SLES 10 SP2." The directions then go on to state how to install on a OES2 box. Do you have to install the event monitors on OES2? Will the event monitors run on SLES 11?
    We already have 64 bit SLES 11 systems in the partition and would like to use these instead of installing more servers if possible. If we need to install OES2 servers, is it OK if they are virtual?

    I guess I am a little confused. We have SLES 11 boxes with eDirectory 8.8.5 sp4 installed. These servers also run LDAP and hold read/write replicas of the partition the users reside in. Why do I need to run OES2 to monitor eDirectory events?
    Originally Posted by NSRDevelopment

There is no problem installing on a virtual server.

  • Why is skype for web not being developed for linux?

    i tried to get the skype extention for chrome on linux. and well i got that icon error. so i tried to work arround the error and was seccessful in getting the plugin installed. but the actual skype for web aplication doesn't seem to want to utilize the skype calling extention even after using a user agent to trick the skype for web page into thinking i am using chrome on windows. i end up hacing to install the windows plugin. and the skype for web page doesn't like to use the Skype Calling extention.but anyway  iwanted to know why the skype for web plugin is not being compiled for linux. i see no reason why someone couldn't just compile the plugin for linux with the already existing code. i would be willing to volunteer to compile the plugin and release the plugin for linux.

    Hi and welcome to the Skype Community,
    Skype for Web is currently a Beta version with support for calling via the plugin being limited to popular browsers on Windows and Mac. Unfortunately supporting calling on Chrome for Linux requires a bit more than simply recompiling the plugin. Going forward we are looking to add more features and allow calling on even more platforms, potentially even Linux.

  • WordPerfect 8 for Linux

    Has anyone tried installing Wordperfect 8 for Linux as detailed in http://www.tldp.org/FAQ/WordPerfect-Linux-FAQ/ ?
    WordPerfect 8 for Linux  requires these OLD libaries:
    1.  ld-linux.so.1.9.5, libc5 (any version from 5.3.12 through 5.4.46) with matching libm.so.5.*,
    2.  a set of X11 backwards-compatibility libraries compiled for libc5 X11 clients (libXt.so.6, libX11.so.6, libXpm.so.4, libSM.so.6, and libICE.so.6).
    There is a tarball of these old binaries at http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distri … dperfect8/
    If I installed these old libraries would it cause problems with Arch?
    Is there a way to compile these binaries for source and make a package?

  • Maxtor 250GB with Linux

    Hi All,
    Am thinking of purchasing an external Hard Drive of Maxtor, 250GB USB interface. May I know if this device can work with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, or does Linux require a driver for this. I have a 2 GB USB from Transcend and it is recognized by Linux. So, I suppose I don't require an additional driver for Maxtor.
    Does anyone find Maxtor having issues with Linux? If so, please mention...
    Regards,
    ...

    Hi Flake
    You will need to control that proper usb is installed :
    'lsmod' |grep -i usb shows that
    usb-storage and usbcore
    are installed.
    After that you will be able to create a file system:
    mke2fs /dev/hdXX (sdXX for scsi) for an ext2 partition
    mke2fs -j /dev/hdXX for ext3 partition
    mkresierfs /dev/hdXX for a reiser3 partion
    Otherwise read that :

    And this one before you buy your external drive:

  • Installation of 11.5.10 on Linux (Suse or Redhat)

    Has any one had succes of installing 11.5.10 on Suse or redhat? Does anyone know where i could find the installation/upgrade document?
    Kind regards,
    Dwayne

    The following guides provide a basic outline of what you would need to do.
    The simple web alias for the Novell Oracle documentation is www.suse.com/oracle, then click on Documentation.
    http://ftp.novell.com/partners/oracle/docs/10gR2_SL10_introduction.pdf
    http://ftp.novell.com/partners/oracle/docs/10gR2_openSUSE102_introduction.pdf
    Install Suse Linux 10.1 with at least the following groups:
    Graphical Base System
    KDE Desktop Environment
    C/C++ Compiler and Tools
    Under partitioning, ensure you have 2GB minimum for swap. I have 2GB physical and 2GB swap, and swap is usually near 1GB with all services running. I recommend starting with 4 or 6 GB of swap (2x-3x physical ram).
    I used to prefer running 11i on reiserFS due to superior write speeds and better storage allocation of the 700,000 small 11i files. ReiserFS is now in maintenance mode from both Oracle and Novell standpoints, so if you are starting out with a fresh install, choose ext3 with the data=writeback mount option.
    If the following packages are not on your media, download from http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-10.1

    Toolkit for Oracle is compiled for Suse 10.1 on http://packman.unixheads.com/suse/10.1:

    Run Online Update for all updateable packages. This will bring the Sun Java plugin up to 1.5.0_07.
    http://ftp.novell.com/partners/oracle/sles-10/orarun-1.9-26.i586.rpm
    rpm -Uhv --nodeps orarun-1.9-26.i586.rpm
    Run “/usr/sbin/rcoracle start“ to set kernel parameters.
    1) Setup the environment as you would for running Applications on RH 4 or SLES9
    I.E. follow Oracle Applications Installation Update Notes, Release 11i (11.5.10.2)
    http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=316806.1
    2) Remove any LD_ASSUME_KERNEL references in O/S /etc/profile.d files
    3) Comment out LD_ASSUME_KERNEL entries in $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin/adgetlnxver.sh and $AD_TOP/bin/adgetlnxver.sh
    if [ ${setflag}x = "x" -a $os = "Suse" ]; then
    # LD_ASSUME_KERNEL="2.4.21"
    # export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
    os="Suse"
    fi
    if [ ${setflag}x = "x" -a $os = "RH" ]; then
    # LD_ASSUME_KERNEL="2.4.19"
    # export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
    os = "RH"
    fi
    If doing a rapid install, the database startup will fail and rapidwiz will prompt to ignore or retry. At this point, edit $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin/adgetlnxver.sh as shown above and click on retry. It will then run to the autoconfig step at the end and error out. Just hit cancel, edit $AD_TOP/bin/adgetlnxver.sh as shown above.
    At this point, go to $APPL_TOP/admin, and in sid_host.xml,
    replace
    <sun_plugin_ver oa_var="s_sun_plugin_ver">1.4.2_04</sun_plugin_ver>
    with
    <sun_plugin_ver oa_var="s_sun_plugin_ver">1.5.0_07</sun_plugin_ver>
    Then run autoconfig.
    Register the Sun Java Plugin with Firefox by creating a soft link in /usr/lib/browser-plugins:
    # cd /usr/lib/browser-plugins
    # ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0_07/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
    This will allow you to open 11i forms that require Jinitiator in Windows via the Sun Java Plugin in either Firefox or SeaMonkey (the Mozilla replacement) on your Suse 10.1 machine.
    4) In order to relink cplex library executables (MSC, MSO, MSR, MST, WIP, etc), edit $AD_TOP/bin/adrelinknew.sh and add the following LD option (-Wl,--noinhibit-exec) in the LINUX section:
    LINUX)
    LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -ldl'
    DEBUG_LDFLAGS='-g -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -ldl'
    exe_line='ELF .*executable'
    SHRLIB_LD='gcc'
    LD='gcc'
    SHRLIB_LDFLAGS='-L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -shared'
    if test -f "/etc/redhat-release"; then
    CPP_LIBS='/usr/lib/libstdc++-2-libc6.1-1-2.9.0.so'
    elif test -f "/etc/SuSE-release"; then
    CPP_LIBS='/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.9'
    else
    CPP_LIBS=''
    fi
    CPP='g++'
    CPP_LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs
    set CPP_LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs
    to CPP_LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -Wl,--noinhibit-exec'
    After this change, you can apply any MRP, ASCP patch and all executables will relink correctly. You can also use adadmin to relink all executables and it completes without error.
    5) For Discoverer 4.1.48.08, Follow Metalink Note 280598.1 Discoverer 4i On Linux: Required Patch and Configuration for Discoverer Server Stability to use JDK 1.3.1 and oadj. I updated the autoconfig template files with this change after applying 3895177. Discoverer viewer and plus standard BIS reports all open correctly on SLES-10/Suse 10.1
    6) If you want to apply Developer 6i Patchset 17 or 18 to your 11i system, edit $ORACLE_HOME/forms60/lib/cus_forms60w.mk and ins_forms60w.mk and remove the -Bstatic
