  • Linux, Oracle Databace 10g Express Ed installation so can run SQL Developer

    Dear Oracle
I am endeavouring to run SQLDeveloper for Linux on my Netbook running Ubuntu 11.04 'Natty Narwhal' OS on an i386 architecture and have not yet been successful. I am doing this as we are using SQL Developer in my Computer Science undergraduate studies at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia. I first followed the cursory instructions on your site where I agreed to the Terms & Conditions of your license and downloaded the SQLDeveloper for Linux package. I have been tinkering with it but I can't get it to execute and open.
I then did some research on the Internet to solve this problem and found a website from a Linux user that had codified the process they went through to get SQL Developer to work. I have included a copy of the website URL for your reference:
I have been working through the steps of this process and one of them was to install another one your, that is Oracle's, applications/tools which is: oracle-xe_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
On running this Debian installation package for Linux my Ubuntu system opened a dialogue box which related:
"The package is of bad quality
The installation of a package which violates the quality standards isn't allowed. This could cause serious problems on your computer. Please contact the person or organisation who provided this package file and include the details beneath.

This dialogue box had two button options <<OK>> and <<Ignore and install>>. I have tried both but no success.
I would really appreciate some assistance.
    Thanking you in anticipation

  • Merge all ISO images of Oracle Linux into a single ISO (single installation media)

    Hi all,
I have downloaded Oracle Linux 7 ISO files :
    V74844-01.iso (4.1GB)
    V74845-01.iso (340 MB)
    V74846-01.iso (3.4GB)
    V74847-01.iso (2.1GB)
Is it possible to merge all these ISO files into a single bootable ISO file, and write it to a 16GB USB stick to use it as installation media?

Other than  V74844-01.iso, which of the remaining 3 ISO file are important for a fully functional installation?
None of them. Only V74844-01.iso is required for a fully functional installation.
V74845-01 is a boot ISO and is used by network administrators when creating network-based automated boot/install solutions that require the installer to run the UEK instead of the RHCK. The default ISO uses the RHCK.
V74846-01 and V74847-01 contain the source code for all the packages that ship on V74844-01. This is required under the terms of the Open Source licenses under which Oracle Linux is shipped. This is only required if you want to modify and recompile any of the packages provided by Oracle Linux.

  • Linux's and WXP's SJSAS8 installations returning different things.

    Hi all,
I recently installed, in a single computer, SJSAS8 (J2EE1.4 SDK) for Windoze and Linux (XP and Mandrake Linux 10.0). Both are standard installations. Both have JDBC connection pools using MS Sql Server JDBC driver. Both have the same application deployed as EAR file. I expected both to give same results.
The difference shows when retrieving XML through EJBs. While XP returns special characters correctly, Linux returns the '?' sign. I will spend more time trying to find what happens, but I just thought maybe someone else had already encountered and solutioned this behavior.

This may not help much but this seems like a character encoding issue. My guess is the default character encoding on the 2 platforms are different and the default Linux encoding is not properly encoding some of the characters in your XML document, hence the ?'s. Perhaps you could modify the default character encoding on the Linux box to match the windows box and see if that helps. Maybe I'm off base here.

    Installing Oracle8i on Red Hat Linux 7.1 / 7.2
by Jeff Hunter, Sr. Database Administrator
    Overview
The following article is a summary of the steps required to successfully install the Oracle 8i (8.1.7) database on Redhat Linux 7.1 and 7.2.
Downloading / Unpacking the Oracle 8i Installation Files
Download Oracle 8i from Oracle's OTN Site.
(If you do not currently have an account with Oracle OTN, you will need to create one. This is a FREE account!)
    http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/oracle8i/htdocs/linuxsoft.html
    Unpack the downloaded file:
    % tar xvf linux81701.tar
You should now have a directory called "Disk1" containing the Oracle 8i Installation files:
    /Disk1
    Swap Space Considerations
Installing Oracle 8i requires a minimum of 128MB of memory.
(An inadequate amount of swap during the installation will cause the Oracle Universal Installer to either "hang" or "die")
To check the amount of memory / swap you have allocated, type either:
    % free
    - OR -
    % cat /proc/swaps
    - OR -
    % cat /proc/meminfo | grep MemTotal
If you have less than 128MB of memory (between your RAM and SWAP), you can add temporary swap space by creating a temporary swap file. This way you do not have to use a raw device or even more drastic, rebuild your system.
As root, make a file that will act as additional swap space, let's say about 300 MB:
    % dd if=/dev/zero of=tempswap bs=1k count=300000
Now we should change the file permissions:
    % chmod 600 tempswap
Finally we format the "partition" as swap and add it to swap space:
    % mke2fs tempswap
    % mkswap tempswap
    % swapon tempswap
    Download and Install Libraries
Before running the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI), you will need to install several RPMS. Failing to install these packages will cause the installer to fail. (In fact, the OUI will not even appear)
You will find these RPMS within your Redhat 7.1 distribution CD set:
    compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2.i386.rpm (CD1)
    compat-egcs-6.2-1.1.2.14.i386.rpm (CD2)
    compat-libs-6.2-3.i386.rpm (CD2)
You can also find these RPMS on Redhat's website:
    ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/7.1/en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2.i386.rpm
    ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/7.1/en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/compat-egcs-6.2-1.1.2.14.i386.rpm
    ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/7.1/en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/compat-libs-6.2-3.i386.rpm
Install the following RPMS as the "root" user account:
    % rpm -i compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2.i386.rpm
    % rpm -i compat-egcs-6.2-1.1.2.14.i386.rpm
    % rpm -i compat-libs-6.2-3.i386.rpm
Install the Java Development Kit (JDK)
In order to use Oracle's HTTP [Apache] Server, you will need to download the appropiate JDK 1.2.2 from Sun.
As per the JDK documentation, install JDK under /usr/local.
Then create a symbolic link to the JDK under /usr/local/java.
    Sun's JDK 1.2.2
    Download from: http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.2/download-linux.html
    Install as root:
    % cp jdk-1_2_2_009-linux-i386.tar.gz /usr/local
    % gunzip jdk-1_2_2_009-linux-i386.tar.gz
    % tar xvf jdk-1_2_2_009-linux-i386.tar
    % ln -s /usr/local/jdk1.2.2 /usr/local/java
    % rm jdk-1_2_2_009-linux-i386.tar
    Create Oracle Account and Directories
    Create Oracle User Account:
    % groupadd -g 115 dba
    % useradd -u 173 -c "Oracle Software Owner" -d /u01/app/oracle -g "dba" -m -s /bin/bash oracle
    % passwd oracle
    Create Oracle Directories:
    % mkdir /u01
    % mkdir /u01/app
    % mkdir /u01/app/oracle
    % mkdir /u01/app/oracle/product
    % chown -R oracle:dba /u01/app/oracle
    % mkdir /u03
    % mkdir /u03/app
    % mkdir /u03/app/oradata
    % mkdir /u03/app/oradata/<ORACLE_SID>
    % chown -R oracle:dba /u03/app/oradata

    % mkdir /u06/app/oradata/<ORACLE_SID>
    % chown -R oracle:dba /u06/app/oradata
    % mkdir /u07
    % mkdir /u07/app
    % mkdir /u07/app/oradata
    % mkdir /u07/app/oradata/<ORACLE_SID>
    % chown -R oracle:dba /u07/app/oradata
    % mkdir /u08
    % mkdir /u08/app
    % mkdir /u08/app/oradata
    % mkdir /u08/app/oradata/<ORACLE_SID>
    % chown -R oracle:dba /u08/app/oradata
    % mkdir /u09
    % mkdir /u09/app
    % mkdir /u09/app/oradata
    % mkdir /u09/app/oradata/<ORACLE_SID>
    % chown -R oracle:dba /u09/app/oradata
    % mkdir /u10
    % mkdir /u10/app
    % mkdir /u10/app/oradata
    % mkdir /u10/app/oradata/<ORACLE_SID>
    % chown -R oracle:dba /u10/app/oradata
    % mkdir /opt/bin
    % chown oracle:dba /opt/bin
    Oracle Environment Variable Settings:
An example ".bash_profile" is provided in the Configuration Files / Scripts section below.
Ensure to set the environment variable: LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
Also make sure to "source" the following:
    source /usr/i386-glibc21-linux/bin/i386-glibc21-linux-env.sh
    Run the Oracle Installer
    As the "oracle" user account:
Set your DISPLAY variable to a valid X Windows display.
    % DISPLAY=<Any X-Windows Host>:0.0
    % export DISPLAY
NOTE: If you forgot to set the DISPLAY environment variable and you get the following error:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
you will then need to execute the following command to get "runInstaller" working again:
    % rm -rf /tmp/OraInstall
If you don't do this, the Installer will hang without giving any error messages. Also make sure that "runInstaller" has stopped running in the background. If not, kill it.
Change directory to the Oracle installation files you downloaded and extracted. Then run: runInstaller.
    % cd /Disk1
    % ./runInstaller
During the installation, DO NOT choose to "Create A Database". This how I answered the questions:
    Inventory Location: /u01/app/oracle/oraInventory
    UNIX Group Name: dba
Full path name of the Oracle Home: /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7
    Oracle Univeral Installer in: /u01/app/oracle/oui
    JDK Home: /usr/local/java
Errors during the Relink Phase of the Install
During the "Relink Phase" of the install, you will get several errors. When any of the relinks do fail during installation just keep pressing "ignore". After running "root.sh", and you are at the point when you are at the "Network Configuration screen", you will need to close the installer as this will also not work due to the earlier relink problem.
After exiting the Installer, you need to apply patch for bug 1467074 (as the "oracle" OS user). Now you should be able to run ORACLE executables. To install the Oracle patch for bug 1467074, run the following in your ORACLE_HOME as the "oracle" user account:
    % mv glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar.gz $ORACLE_HOME
    % gunzip glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar.gz
    % tar xvf glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar
    % ./setup_stubs.sh
You will also need to enter LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 in your .profile for the "oracle" user account so that they you can run programs like "dbssist" and "netca".

  • Oracle Hyperion EPM 11.1.2 Installation on Linux Server Issue

    Hi All,
We were downloaded and extracted all zip files (placed in opt/hyperion) from edelivery.oracle.com on LINUX 64 - Server. Before start the installation created new user and assigned to particular group. We are unable to point out the new location for installation, and tried in both GUI and silent installation. In GUI mode the "Browse" option is not highlighted for selecting a new location. It is giving default location eg: some other directory opt/epm.
After finally we found some one already installed EPM 11.1.2 partially in some other directory. But Users are different and Groups (the both users) are same for this installation.
The following error occurred "An existing Middle ware location has been detected .The default location is /opt/epm ".Even we are not able to change the location.
My issue is why it is pointing to older location after deleting all related hyperion folders in /opt/epm.But Seems OraInventory folder files and some files pointing to older location.(We haven't clean that folders). Can i delete those folders as well?
Any inputs would be really appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Browse button was nt higihlighted coz EPM installer must hv found something frm previous installation.
Now jst delete Oracle folder where u hv installed EPM 11.1.2, delete EPM related things from env nd user profile, nd re start installing.

  • Installation: Oracle 10g on SUSE Linux 10.1

Can this be? I sat for hours preparing my all new clean SUSE Linux 10.1 server for the installation of Oracle 10g (Standard Edition)... and when running the installer it simply tells me that SUSE 9 is needed...
I've found others here in the forum having experienced the same.
Maybe I just downloaded the wrong version of Oracle?
The main download page is at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.html
I selected entry "Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Linux x86" (the one directly below the Windows version):
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201linuxsoft.html
The size of the file^^ is 668,734,007 bytes.
Or should i have downloaded entry "Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.2) for z/Linux":
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10202zlinuxsoft.html
The size of the file^^ is 838,518,746 bytes.
By the way, all these versions on the main page should have some kind of description, something like "This is the Linux Version for most standard 32Bit single and multiprocessor Intel compatible servers."
Well, since I'm completely stuck now with SUSE 10.1, is there any way to make the Oracle installer go on that SUSE version? Maybe SUSE can pretend to be version 9... but how do I achieve something freaky as this?
Thanks for any help, comments, suggestions...
    Karsten

BTW, I think it's bad practice by Oracle not supporting SUSE 10.1.Actually, I think it is good practise for Oracle not to certify the public beta versions of an operating system.
Please remember that Fedora and SuSE Linux are cycled every 6-8 months, making then truly unstable for commercial purposes. IN addition, they are often desupported by the comminuty within 2-3 years, forcing upgrades. And finally, Both Red Hat and SuSE/Novell publically state that these are 'proving grounds for new features' (meaning they are beta).
Certification means that Oracle will invest heavily and train people on the specific operating system and work with the operating system supplier, 24x7 if needed, to make sure that customers will continue in production. I am not aware that the SuSE Linux or Fedora supporters are willing to put in 24x7 support they way the Red Hat and SuSE Enterprise groups are.
This does not imply the public OSs are bad. It just means that Oracle (and I) believe they are unsuited for commercial, business mission critical, immediate support required, environments.
By the way, I have the combination of Oracle10g and SuSE Linux 10.1 working, and it works well. However, I did need to make sure that the libraries to which Oracle10g was compiled are available in the OS.
Or maybe Sybase does better.... ;-pNot if the [glibc] libraries are incompatible. Nor does PostgreSQL nor MySQL.

    Hi Terry,
I initially experienced the same "connection refused" message as
you from xlib when performing a local installation using GNOME.
My problem was to do with logging on to X as root (to mount the
CDROM) and then switching to the oracle account to do the
    install.
If I logged to X as oracle I didn't need to change the default
    DISPLAY value of :0 .

  • Installation messages on linux

I just installed Oracle XE on Linux RHEL 3.0. The installation went smoothly and the database and the HTMLDB is working OK. The only question I have is, when I ran the installation, there where two messages that said:
    /sbin/ldconfig: /lib/libnss_winbind.so is not a symbolic link
    /sbin/ldconfig: /lib/libnss_wins.so is not a symbolic link
Are these just information messages, or are they errors that I need to correct before going on?

    From our Linux guru's
"We think its a problem in the winbind stuff itself and we can/should ignore it on our end. We will see if we can get Redhat to fix this up in their RPMs for Samba"

Can anyone help me with this.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
If you have copied the installation files locally, then make sure ALL the files are copied.  From the error it looks "DISK_1_1" file is missing from the directory.
    Thanks,
