    hi folks,

plz suggest me suitable glibc version with corrosponding  updated version of RPM package.
    thanks

    Dear Ranjan,
it is always recommended to use the latest available version of glibc. You can use the Red Hat tool 'up2date' to get the latest glibc packages provided through the Red Hat Network (RHN). Currently, glibc-2.3.4-2.36 is the latest one available (as far as I know).

  • Problem installing Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 2 from Oracle e-Delivery

    Hello
I have been trying to install Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 2 from Oracle e-Delivery so that I can install Oracle 11g express edition beta.
Here are the steps that I took and the problem that I am having:
    1. I downloaded the file, unzipped the file twice, which gave me 3,042 files and 13 folders with the total size = 3.07 GB.
    2. I put in the DVD and restarted my PC hoping that my PC will boot from the DVD, but instead Window started.
I reported this issue to tech support from e-Delivery, but they referred me to contact you. Please assist.

3,042 files and 13 folders with the total size = 3.07 GBWhich download .zip did you choose from edelivery? Under linux-x64 I peeked "Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 2 for x86_64 (64 Bit) - DVD" file V15099-01.zip downloaded, it has just the one .iso file. You'll need to burn that to DVD, but with burn s/w that handles ISO files.
Also keep in mind you'll need 64 bit hardware (amd/intel 64? itanium? those are different), the only *nix platform I've got handy to try it out is -x86 :(

  • Oracle Linux 5.5 updates?

Lately it seems that the Oracle Linux 5.5 channel is very quiet, now that Oracle Linux 5.6 is out and getting updates. My question is whether there will be any updates to 5.5 in the future, or is it kind of frozen, and all new features/fixes will go into 5.6?

Once a new update comes out, the older update versions remain static. This means you can keep your servers on exactly the right version of each package you want. If you subscribe to the "latest" channel (available on ULN), then your system will automatically upgrade from Update to Update, i.e. it would've jumped from EL5U5 to EL5U6 automatically.

  • Poll: linux-ck package update rate

I wanted to solicit some feedback from the users of the linux-ck kernel package and of course from users using the pre-compiled binaries from the unofficial llinux-ck repo.  How rapid a tempo do you prefer for the linux-ck package/what are the minumum required patchsets for me to bump the release up?
    As they are currently defined:
    Required components of the PKG
    *Upstream kernel source
    *ARCH configs
    *CK patches (from Con Kolivas)
    Optional components of the PKG
    *BFQ patches (from Paolo Valente)
    Some history:
When 2.6.x went to 3.0.x, it took 5-6 weeks for Paolo to update the BFQ patchset for the 3.0 tree.
When 3.1 just went to 3.2 we got a partial ck1 patchset.  CK said sometime next week for the full ck1 patchset and Paolo said the same for BFQ, so let's say 2 weeks there.

Thats the danger of giving people options: the more options you offer, the larger portion of people who will be pissed off when you make a decision.
Perhaps if you chose first, then gave a poll with just that one option, everyone could feel like they got what they wanted

  • Firefox 13 linux checks for updates and says it is up to date even though my other systems have auto-updated a week or two ago.

My firefox auto-updated to 10.0, 10.0.1, 11, and 12. but would not auto-update to 13.0 so I manually downloaded and updated. now that 14 is out it still won't auto-update. by which I mean when I go to HELP, ABOUT, it says it is fire fox 13.0, says it's checking for updates (very very briefly) then says "firefox is up to date". several other systems have auto-updated from 13 to 14, a couple of weeks ago but this one refuses. what's wrong here?

You will be slightly behind if you use Linux and their own version of Firefox instead of the Mozilla standard version. (Not of course standard in some Linux distros)
    I use Ubuntu, and their Canonical Firefox Aurora just updated I think yesterday from fx15 to fx16. <br/>{''Mozilla/5.0 (X11;''' Ubuntu'''; Linux x86_64; rv:16.0) Gecko/16.0 Firefox/16.0'' ]
    I also have the Mozilla Firefox Release 64bit and that updated as expected a while ago from fx13 to fx14.<br/> {''Mozilla/5.0 (X11; '''Linux''' x86_64; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1'']
Not sure why fx13 is not updating for you.
Maybe something to do with your distro IF it is their version. IIRC some early Ubuntu LTS versions probably did not update Firefox. But you may have the Mozilla version as your system info aside shows <br/>''User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; '''Linux '''i686; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0''
You could just download the latest version from
    * http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Just take care not to delete the existing firefox profile, preferably back it up first just in case.

  • Solaris 10 NFS performance on Linux running ws3 update 3

Hope someone can help me sort out this problem.
    Dear Support.
We are having a Solaris/Sparc file server running Solaris 10. The Solaris machine act as a NFS file server. We encounter very poor NFS performance when copying files to and from a filesystem via Linux NFS
I have set up a very simple test scenario. Created a tar file, size around 3 GB. The file is sitting on a SAN system. The file it self is created on a Solaris 10 UFS filesystem.
Solaris E240 Solaris 8 NFS, GB interface copy to and from the same disk via NFS
    timecp /seis/seis600_new/usr.tar /seis/seis600_new/new1.tar
    real 2m18.91s
    user 0m0.11s
    sys 0m29.72s
IBM/AMD 64 bit Linux WS3 U5, GB interface NFS to and from the same disk via NFS.
    time cp /seis/seis600_new/usr.tar /seis/seis600_new/new1.tar
    real 6m24.670s
    user 0m0.130s
    sys 0m21.860s
Also run the test on other Linux boxes with similar results?
The funny part of this is that I can reproduce the performance problem on other SUN systems among the SUN Blade 2000 with 8 GB Ram
    Let me wrap up.
Always bad NFS performance when using NFS between Solaris NFS server and Linux client.
Not always bad performance when using NFS between Solaris server and clients.

It's been a while since I was doing linux->solaris nfs, so bear with me as I clear out the cobwebs.
First things to check: Mount options for the nfs mount to the server.
Which versions of nfs are you using?(v2, v3?) Solaris uses version 3 mounts by default.
What's your wsize and rsize for reads and writes?
I believe linux is limited to using 8k r/w block sizes. Solaris will let you use r/wsize up to 32k in nfsv3, which would really help with larger data transfers.
nfsv3 has a number of performance enhancements over v2, so give that a shot with a larger block size.
    nfsvers=3,wsize=8192,rsize=8192,nolock,intr
Also experiment with your locking options, that might help some.
NFS has always been a fairly weak point for linux.

  • BI (BOE) XI R3.1 (Linux) Server Migration -  Update BOE base directory path

    Hello,
Performing a server migration using BOE XI R3.1 (from BOE XI R3.1 to same release BOE XI R3.1) on Linux Platform.
After performing a data restore, the BOE server executables could not be launched (do not start) due to different BOE base directory path in these environments.
Could someone help point me on how to edit server configuration data to correct the base path in the migrated server?

    Hi,
Thanks for the input.   Unfortunately, I don't see an option in ccm.sh to delete sia/servers..  Using serverconfig.sh, I tried to recreate the sia using option 1 - Add a Server Intelligence Agent, and this option is supposed to recreate the sia and default servers if it already exists in the database.   However, this yields same result: CMS is running with correct base path, but all servers are not launched since the server configuration path reflects the from environment, and not the current/target environment.
    Thanks again.

  • Linux RedHat 4 update 4: how to unbind  raw devices used by ASM diskgroups?

How to unbind raw devices used by ASM diskgroup?
I created ASM diskgroup using /dev/raw/rawn, after done my testing, I need to toss the raw devices to start a new testing. Here is the procedure:
    1. shutdown MYTEST database
    2. in ASM instance, remove disks from diskgroup 'rawtest'
    3. in ASM instance, "drop diskgroup rawtest including contents"
    4. in OS, issue: "raw /dev/raw/raw1 0 0"
    I got the following error:
    # raw /dev/raw/raw1 0 0
Error setting raw device (Device or resource busy)
But if I shutdown ASM instance, the above commmand will be successful.
My question, how can I unbind raw devices without shutting down ASM instance(could be used by other databases at the same time)?
    Thanks,
