Linux support on Solaris 10 x86

When we are trying to run linux binaries on solaris 10 getting the following error:
update_records: Cannot find /lib/ld-linux.so.2
update_records: this is linux binary.
Whereas Solaris 10 features states that we can run the linux binaries on solaris 10 natively. Let me know in which release of solaris 10 do we have support for linux libraries

That feature doesn't exist yet. It's suppose to come in a future update of Solaris 10. Your only option if you want to run Linux binaries natively is to use "lxrun"--otherwise get the source, if possible, and recompile.

So where is the LINUX support in the new Solaris 10?
I downloaded the free Software Express for Solaris x86 Platform (11/04) and installed it on a Dell 8600 P4 1.8 system. Fresh install on a new hard drive. Then I tried to install the new FireFox web browser for Linux. Received the following error: Cannot find /lib/ld-linux.so.2. I was logged in as Root. Ran a search of the entire system and found nothing using pattern ld-linux*.

So where is the LINUX support in the new Solaris 10?It does not exist (at least not outside of Sun).
There are rumours that it will be available in one of the Solaris
10 update releases. In case S10 FCS will be available in
january/february 2005, and the rumour are true, I'd expect that
the linux support will be available somewhere in june 2005 (??
    S10 Update 1) or october 2005 (?? S10 Update 2). (Pure
speculation be me, I don't know the schedule)

I went on the oracle website to download the full installer version 10.2.0.1 (Including Agent, Repository, OMS, and Management Packs) and the Patch Installer version 10.2.0.5 (Including Agent, OMS, and Management Packs) for SOLARIS X86, however, it was not there. • Problem with Linux executable in solaris

I would be thankfull if someone tell me how to solve the problem.
    Thanks Raji

You need lxrun do be able to run Linux binaries on Solaris x86. You can get it at
    http://soldc.sun.com/freeware/details/detail_lxrun_0.9.6.1_8_Intel.html
I've never used it, so please post your results here.

  • Need to install ORACLE 9i on solaris x86

    Hi All,
Can anyone tell me where I can get DB Oracle 9i for Solaris x86?
If not, what can I use?
    Thanks.
    Marfy

Unfortunately no chance. 9i was never supported on Solaris x86 and is desupported now on all other platforms. Use 10gR2 instead.

  • SP3 for Solaris x86?

    Hi:
I noticed that SP3 for Solaris X86 is not present. Is BEA dropping support for Solaris x86?
    Thanks,

You can try the newly released Solaris 10 10/09 VDI image from:
    https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_SMI-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewProductDetail-Start?ProductRef=virtualbox-s10U8-x86-G-F@CDS-CDS_SMI
This is a complete ready-to-run image that won't require installing. It might help debug issues such as keyboard and mouse, separating it from install issues.

  • Deinstall on Solaris x86

not sure if this is the right place, but couldn't see one that was more germaine.
i just used dbca to remove a 10gR1 database from a system and then used runInstaller to remove the binaries. it hung up the system and ended up corrupting the mounted filesystem -- we had to do a umount and fsck to get it back and all the bad nodes were oracle nodes.
has anyone else had or heard of this kind of situation? is this a bug? did i do something wrong?
    help?

We are doing work on converging the JVMs (Hotspot and JRockit). Solaris x86 is supported today for hotspot, and will be supported by the converged JVM as it is released.
As things stand right now, JRockit will not be supported on Solaris x86 until JRockit will be replaced by the converged JVM.

  • Support for JRockit for WebLogic 10.3 in Solaris x86

    Hi All,
I am trying to install JRockit Mission Control 3.1.2 in a Solaris 10 x86 platform.
For Solaris Spark I know there is a special distribution.. For Solaris 10 x86 I am trying to install the generic linux version.
When I try to install the jrmc-3.1.2-1.6.0-linux-ia32.bin I get the following error:
    jrmc-3.1.2-1.6.0: Cannot find /lib/ld-linux.so.2
I also try with 64bit edition of the jrockit mission Control but I get a similar error but trying to find the /lib64/ld-linux.so.2.
Is Solaris 10 x86 supported? Or at least, is there a workaround to install it?
I find some site talking about JRockit for Solaris Spark, but seems to me that Solaris x86 is not supported...
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
The DTD used in "web.xml" should not cause any issue ...though it's the OLD "web.xml"...Please try to run the Following command to Generate the New Deployment Descriptors from the Existing Application:
Step1). Open a Command Window and Run "setWLSEnv.sh" or "setWLSEnv.cmd".
Step2). In the Command Prompt move to the Current Directory where you have placed your Application and then Run the Following Command
    java weblogic.DDConverter  -d NewDDs  jamagent.war
Here Above Command Will read the "jamagent.war" War archive and then It will generate the New DDs in "NewDDs" directory...Which we need to replace with the OLD DDs present in our WebApplication..

  • Does Form6i/Report6i support Solaris x86?

There is only Form6i and Report6i for SunSparc and no Solaris version for x86.
Have anybody tried to install the Linux version of Form6i or Report6i in a machine running Solaris X86? And what is the key to install it successfully?

I'm sure that Oracle8i server supports Solaris Intel Platform and Oracle9i doesn't support Solaris Intel Platform at this moment as I know.

  • Dell Hardware on Linux or Solaris x86

    Hi,
My company is considering moving to dell hardware in a move to drive TCO down. We currently run Sun sparc (240, 490,890) servers and they are nearing end of life. Doing the research, even visited some vendors and from what we've seen, running either RH 5 or even Solaris (x86) on Dell could prove to be a good move. We're running mostly 10.2 databases with a couple of 9.2 that we hope to have upgraded by year end.
Has anyone made a similar move and what is your experience? I worked on Dell about 4 years ago and back then we felt there were reliability issues. They crashed a little too often for my liking. I realize some of it was do to OS panics and not just hardware but that is part of the package.
Any feedbackup would be greatly appreciated.

If you're going to go Dell, you might aswell go the whole way and run RedHat.
Aside from the support issues mentioned (I'm not familiar with that aspect) Solaris has a history of being much more expensive to run (largely due to the cost of the employees that know it) with the major advantage being: better integration with Sun hardware.
As for Dell reliability, there's a reason we're an HP shop..

  • Which 10g release supports Solaris x86 version 10?

    Hi,
I downloaded Oracle 10.1.0.3 for Solaris x86. When I installed it, I got error, saying I can only install this version on Solaris 9 x86. Do you have any idea which Oracle 10g version supports Solaris x86 version 10?
    Thanks

    Hi,
If we believe metalink, Oracle 10gR1 is already certified for Solaris x86
Solaris Operating System x86 Version 10
Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition Version 10g
    Status: Certified
    Certification Note:
    Install Information:
o 1. Execute runInstaller with the -ignoreSysPrereqs option.
o 2. Select 'Do not create a starter database' when installing Oracle 10g.
o 3. During installation, the warning message 'SUNWsprox package not installed' can be ignored. Press Continue to resume the installation.
o 4. Download and install patch 4186426 from metalink.oracle.com after installing Oracle 10g software.
o 5. If you have an End User Solaris 10 distribution, install the SUNWuiu8 package prior to installing the 10g client.
Have you run installer like recommended in point 1 ?
For 10gR2, you need to wait december for certification.
    Nicolas.

  • SGD Solaris x86 no SecurID support

    Hi,
Is there no support for RSA SecurID on Solaris x86. SGD version 4.2. It seems as if the RSA SecurID module is just not installed (with security pack!).
    Regards,
    Arno Staal
    Divider B.V.

Call or write RSA and let them know you want SecurID for Solaris X86. There is no excuse they don't release this as it is exactly the same code as Sparc, just a simple recompile.
I just spoke to them and they are checking on it for me.
