Linux USB and Muvo V200 (uchi.o vs. ohci

Hi
As a Linux fan I use my MuVo mainly on Linux computers to transfer MP3 files to and from it.
This all works fine (it appears as a VFAT/FAT6 dri've just fine) and I just use cp to copy
to or from it. (N.B. Mount it first with mount -t vfat -o rw /dev/sda /mnt/muvo )
However, my MuVo doesn't work on all my boxes and I am not sure why. My simpleton 256MB FAT6
usb pen dri've does work on all my Linux boxes though.
Anyway, in case it helps anyone, here are my experiences on my 4 Linux PCs:
These 2 PCs work with Muvo :-)
PC Runs RedHat 9 and uses uhci.o (and USB . only I think)
PC2 Fedora Core Linux and uchi.o
These 2 PC's don't work with MuVo :-(
PC3 Fedora Core and ohci.o
PC4 Debian Woody (up to date as as 20-Jan-2004)
So, it seems that the kernel module uhci.o favours the MuVo but the module ohci.o does not.
(The module used by a kernel is dependent on the mnotherboard chipset, so you have no choice
over which one to use for a given PC!)
Anyone any ideas as to what is wrong here?
Any help here would be much appreciated,
Thanks in advance.

Hi will,
Fortunatly for us, Linux Users, there are people like U!!
I was thinking in buying one USB Pen Dri've and audio player (MP3 & Radio).
When studying Creative products I was allmost buying it until I found there was NO support for Linux!!!! then I was afraid!!
I think I should buy another player!! no?
Now I now that I can buy Creative, tks to you, and maybe, just maybe, I'll do it.
I'm a researcher and on my work, I only use Linux. On my home I use both, WinXP (as a work station for me & my wife) and a Linux box (Debian) as Internet gateway, firewall, proxy, and stuff.
I need to have the Creative working on both!!! Linux and WinXP.
Do you think it is safe to buy Muvo N200 or TX FM?
TKS!

• Mac Mini and MuVo V200 problem

I have Mac Mini .83 a few months now. Yesterday, I've, for the first time, tried to connect my MuVo V200 via USB. The problem is that Mac simply can't see MuVo at all!!! With other devices I have no problem. What I suppose to do?
Thanks anyone who can help?

Did you have the Mac before you bought the Muvo V 200? You should have read the box and listed requirements,if you bought this yourself. Below are the minumum requirements for the Muvo V 00 or 200.

• MuVo V200 usable as a usb-mass storage

Hi all
I think of buying a Muvo V200 MP3 player and I want to know if the Muvo V200 has a feature, allowing me to copy datafiles like presentations or movies on the usb storage of the Muvo V200 or not.
Do I have to use the Creative Tools to copy these files on the Muvo V200 or can I use a simple Drag&Drop Feature like normal usb mass storage have ?

• LINUX USB install (NOT LIVE) that works on a Mac and PC

I've installed linux on a USB and I can use it on any pc I want. I just change the boot device and I'm in my private linux os with all my stuff. But if I buy a macbook can I use it on a mac, how?
There are planty tutorials how to make a LIVE USB (boots using ram - like a LVIE CD), but nowhere I can find how to but an actuall install of linux from USB on a mac that also works on a PC, is that possible, it's just a key combination or a boot order in bios or is not posible at all?
I never had a mac in my life, forgive me if this is a simple "Just hit F2, stupid!" question.
Again no ISO, no LIVE, I want the install to have my stuff, I don't want to install flash and my stuff everytime I boot.
Thanks in advance.

You can use a Linux Live USB or CD on any PC is because the hardware drivers are freely availalbe.
On Mac's that's just not the case, until later on someone who gives a ratts behind and runs Linux on a Mac, and is a command line guru can get them and publish them for others to use.
Also Mac's have all sorts of other drivers to control the fans, etc., that if one tries to boot off Linux causes issues.
Installing Linux on a Mac is a big no no, unless your a computer science graduate, because Linux installs it's Swap folder into the hidden EFI partition and reformats the Macintosh HD partiiton with OS X on it and other horrors as it's not a generic PC like people think it is.
You can install Linux into a virtual machine like virtualbox, then OS X is still controling the hardware and virtualbox is taking care of the under the hood things

• Muvo V200 Starts up for one second and then shuts do

Hi,
I bought my Muvo V200 two weeks ago and was delighted with the quality. Yesterday I went to use it and it starts up to reveal the Creative logo and then shuts down straight away. Now the computer wont recognise it either (although a graphic does appear on the muvo screen saying that it is connected to the computer). Ive tried updating the firmware but the installer gets errors. What do I do?

Other people have had the same trouble so I don't think it's because you're in an Internet cafe, but it would be better if you had access to a PC that you could install the drivers onto. Without them you can't get into Recovery Mode.
Perhaps someone in the Internet cafe would logon as an Admin for you so that you could load the drivers and carry out the firmware reload?
Have you not got access to another PC?

• MuVo V200 FAT32 vs. FAT/FAT16 (and VFA

Hi
I have just bought the MuVo V200 and it has firmware version .0.03e which I believe supports
FAT32 even thought the manual (out of date?) says it does not support FAT32.
Anyhow, are there any advantages of using FAT32 over FAT, since GB is not a massi've storage
space and I think therefore that FAT is probably better suited to the MuVo V200?
Also, by FAT does Creative mean FAT6? And furthermore, do they mean VFAT(?), (virtual FAT6)
which does support long filenames etc
Finally, I see some people have had their MuVos *freeze* on them; this is the worst news ever
and I do not want that to happen to me ever! So, is formatting to FAT32 more likely to cause
the unit to freeze? (or less likely? or no difference?)
Thanks in advance

If you've already tried a format (several times) and a firmware reload, then it's likely there is a hardware problem with the player. It would be best to contact Customer Support for assistance.

• Petition: Programable play mode for MuVo V200 (and posibly othe

I would like to suggest ti include a programable play mode for MuVo V200 (and N200), I mean, a a play mode wich the user could select one-by-one songs on the MuVo and then the MuVo play those songs in the given order.
Creative may implement this by introducing virtual folders, folders that only contains references to the stored songs, so user could use the existing diferent play modes over those folders.
I think there's no technical reason that avoids this feature, but I know it may be not simple.
Thanks.
PD: Oh, of course I suggest Ogg Vorbis support, I don't care if my battery stands half time (WMV do it also, but no so hard), but I know Creative don't like Ogg Vorbis

The MuVo's don't have rescue mode, except for the MuVo?.

• Double installation : muvo v200 and zenmi

Hi ,
I'm new in mp3 player world and i bought one creative player : muvo v200 and installed it correctly;
In a second time i bought a Zen Micro and i wonder if i must install it with CD or simply connect it ?
If i install the Zen micro with cd , the first player muvo v200 will be recognizable as it does ?
And then i can use both players without any problems ?
thanks in advance for answers
Christian

You should always install the software from all your product CDs. Don't worry about double installation. The installation program will know whether to overwrite the files. For example, if the software that came with the Zen Micro is newer, than it will overwrite the same software that came with the MuVo v200. Different product CDs may also install different plugins for your different MP3 players.

• A Problem With Muvo V200 !!

Hi everybody, I've bought a Muvo V200 GB, and it works well , less one thing:
When the blue light is activated I feel a very "high-pitched" sound, and it's very unpleasant.
Can somebody tell me if there is a firmware that fix that problem ?
I've tried to format the usb flash but I still have this problem. And I've also seen some posts in other forums that complain about that.

No, the problem is with the V200 hardware itself, not the headphones. But using a higher impedance phone results in this high frequency noise being greatly attenuated. Being a hardware issue, there is no possible firmware fix for this. The only option is to go to a higher impedance phone (the Koss KSC-75 sounds great and is available for $5 from amazon.com) or li've with the problem. You can of course set the player to have the backlight always off - this will also eliminate the problem except at startup but will make adjustments more difficult in the dark.

• My MuVo V200 doom

so here is the thing:
i bought my muvo v200 maybe few years ago and it has been working perfectly since it started to have problems connecting with my pc. it couldnt kinda connect with the pc. when i put it into my usb port the sound of "new device connected" played and right after it the sound of the device is unplugged and again connect/disconnect sound and it keeps doing that as long as the stick is put into the usb port.
so when it was doing that first time the problem disappeared eventually. but now the problem appeared again and it wouldnt disappear. so i read about the recovery device and tried to do the things mentioned in that post, even more problems appeared. before that event i was able to listen music with the player but couldnt connect it with my pc. now, when i tried to flash the new firmware on it there was an error which said something about timeout during the update and then the update was cancelled.
well there was that text blinking that do not disconnect the device during update, and then the error came so it kinda disconnected it during the update. now i cannot even put it on anymore, so i cannot listen to music anymore with my muvo .
i've tried to connect it with my second computer which just have been formatted and windwos has been reinstalled on it. same problem there with connecting and updating.
even my computer's bios displays that 4 usb devices are connected, and when i put muvo to the usb port it shows 5 devices connected, and after a few seconds it shows 4 and again 5 and so on...
is there anything i could do or is my player completely doomed?

If the firmware download was interrupted unfortunately the only way to fix the player is directly reprogramming the ROM, which is beyond what a user can do. You'll most likely have to pay for Creative to repair the player.

• Suggestion firmware MuVo v200 Radio

I have a MuVo v200 GB vith 32 radios FM. Firmware .02.0e. It's a marvellous produced.
Suggestion: To be able to indicate the name of the stations FM memorized.
How: by creating a file fm.ini (simple textual file) containing following informations.
Example: If the user memorized the 5 following stations FM, he writes the file fm.ini according to and memorizes it in the root of key USB of the MuVo.
fm.ini file contains:
--- file beginning ---; no checking enters the frequency and the name of the station.;="Radio Creative the best"2="Radio France"3="Radio jazz"; 3="Radio culture"32="Radio Tour-Eiffel;; it's very simple for the user; Perhaps that it is feasible for the programmer--- end of the file ---
Thank you very much.

The latest firmware was a .0.xx version but it seems to have gone from the website - it will not do anything to improve your WAV recording.
What do you mean by voice and FM recording are BAD. That is down to how the player samples and encodes what it hears - changing the format to mp3 will not enhance your recordings. For example, the music on a CD is effecti'vely the same format as a WAV file and when you rip it to mp3 then the quality gets worse not better, due to the basic design of how encoding works - it removes some parts of the sound to allow it to be compressed into a smaller filesize..
It has never been said that you can't downgrade your firmware but peole do seem to have trouble getting it to work.

• HELP!!! MuVO V200 Fat32 NO RESPOND

I have big problem. I have MuVo V200 and i format it using FAT32. My Mp3 no responding. I can't format it to FAT/FAT6. My?system:?WINDOWS XP SP2. PLIZ HELP
!!! My mail: ">[email protected]

Try putting the V200 into Recovery Mode first. This is done by holding the play button and then connecting the V200 to your PC via the USB port.
When it is in Recovery Mode then try loading the V200 firmware.
To put it into Recovery Mode you might need these drivers:
http://uk.europe.creative.com/suppor...ame=Windows+XP
Download and install these to your PC first.

You need to get the firmware from Support->Downloads and then run it to reload it onto your player. During the reload click the Format Data Area option and all will be well again. PB
