Linux-x86_64 Error: 28: No space left on device

10gR2 (10.2.0.3)
RHEL 4 AS 64-bit
Hi All,
After I created my RAC database with DBCA, I tried to connect to the database and got the following error:
SQL> startup
ORA-27102: out of memory
Linux-x86_64 Error: 28: No space left on device
SQL> startup pfile='/opt/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/initFPRCPROD.ora'
ORA-27102: out of memory
Linux-x86_64 Error: 28: No space left on device
SQL> startup mount pfile='/opt/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/initFPRCPROD.ora'
ORA-27102: out of memory
Linux-x86_64 Error: 28: No space left on device
I also tried to do what the following person did:
ORA-27102: out of memory
But changing the SHMALL kernel parameter still didn't change anything...I still got the error.
Any ideas?
Thank you.

    Hi,
I just installed oracle-xe-10.2.0.1-1.0.i386.rpm on a virtual CentOS box. After I run "/etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure", only listener is running, not the instance itself and $ORACLE_HOME/config/log/CloneRmanRestore.log says
    ORA-27102: out of memory
Linux Error: 28: No space left on device
According to installation requirements (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/install.102/b25144/toc.htm) I checked
    RAM and swap:
    [root@56 ~]# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 7961 7453 507 0 39 923

    [root@56 ~]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/vzfs 2.9G 969M 1.9G 34% /
    Kernel params:
    [root@56 ~]# sysctl -a | egrep 'sem|shm'
error: "Operation not permitted" reading key "kernel.cap-bound"
    kernel.sem = 250 32000 100 128
    kernel.shmmni = 4096
    kernel.shmall = 2097152
    kernel.shmmax = 536870912
So it all looks to be OK.
Any ideas what can be wrong?
    Thanks,
    Radek

Unfortunately the wmem/rmem params can't be changed, as I learned it's a limitation of the virtual hosting, Virtuozzo. Anyway they are "just" for network setting, not for RAM.Yes - but worthy of noting once you run into your next problem. :-)
    >
Couldn't be the problem that I really don't have enough disk space? Only 1.9 GB free. It's unlikely.
I suspect that the SHMMAX setting needs to be increased to 1/2 physical RAM, as described in the doc I referenced.
I suspect the installer is looking at the physical RAM and guessing the target SGA size based on that. It would therefore assume, for DB creation, that it should crank the SGA to around 700MB (1GB max, leave some for PGA, but use some SGA because of SHared Server for APEX)

    Hi,
The /usr/sap file system looks fine.
Could you also check the file space on the /tmp file system? This is usually less and SAPInst can fill this up very quickly.
Ideal to create a seperate SAPInst directory rather than use the default /tmp/sapinst_instdir.

Please help me with this.. as we are not having a good backup since 3 days and its on the PRD server.

    Hi,
First off all run CleanupLogs in DB13, if it is not working then check core files in /oracle/<SID>/saptrace/background/. If they are present move one of them to the other place, then again run CleanupLogs, after move back the core file, and again start CleanupLogs. Also check available space in sapbackup folder. After you can take your backup.

  • Disk Utility errors: No such file -or- No space left on device (50GB+ free)

I am trying to make an image out of a _NTFS formatted_ parition, using around 4,5GB of data, of a freshly installed Windozs. It's for debugging tons of machines I have been given (to debug..) and I need an image done. Note that debating if using an image as a solution is good or not is not the point of this thread.
When I try to make a new image out of the parition (clicking "New Image"), using the defaults settings, I enter my admin pass, then I'm being shown "No space left on device". Wierd. The device I am writing the image onto has 51GB left, and the Trash is emptied.
I tried changing the image format to all the possible types in Disk Utility, but I get the same error: No space left on device.
I then changed the device, this time I used a volume with 10GB free on it. Then, I only managed to get a standard DMG compressed image, where I need a "DVD/CD master" one. I'm still confused, because no other image type worked.
Then I tried making a new image (not from a disk or volume, empty) and then just copy data to it (I'm sure it's really not the way to go, but still). After creating the empty image (I opted for an 8GB, DVD burnable style, "DVD/CD master"), I got the wierd error: No such file (straigth after the image creation, in Disk Utility).
More info about volumes and stuff:
    Data to be imaged:
A single partition on a volume (connected with IDE to Mac Pro, but I don't see why it would matter)
    Where I can save it:
I got a big bunch of volumes right here, internally.
I tried one with 50GB free, but failed. Another one, on another disk, with 10GB, but failed.
Also, this error comes often in Disk Utility and other unix OS I think, and mostly for no real known reason (in OS X), as most issues I found were still unresolved.
    Thanks for any help

    Hey,
Im having the same exact problem.
Toast even says it has a medium error with this drive.
I cant burn with toast and it wont play other DVD-R movies
that I have burnt on other systems.
    What is the fix?

  • Partition failed with the error:  No space left on device

I used Boot Camp Assistant (for instaling Windows XP) and there was Partition error:
+*The disc cannot be partioned because some files cannot be moved.*+
+Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistand again.+
so I tried Yasu, verified permission, verified disk, and everything was ok, but in Disk Utility I was trying to split or change size of my disk but there is one error again:
    +*Partition failed.*+
+Partition failed with the error: No space left on device+
but I have 64GB free space!
how must I "+Restore your information to the disk+" or what else can I do?
    thanks!

This is a standard error message.
If you would have checked into the bootcamp forum you would have instantly found the solution.
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1244&start=0
All that error message means is that you do not have enough conguous disk space available. No big deal at all for an older system. You have bits of files strewn over the "free space."
The solution as you would find in the bootcamp forum is to clone your HD, using a file-file clone, then test the clone to be sure it is working and then to erase your HD and clone back.
    Works every time.

  • Errors - ORA-01034, ORA-27101 & Linux-x86_64 Error: 2: No such file or dir

I have installed Oracle 10g database and AS 10g on SUSE linux EE 10 (SP2)
When I try to log in as system/system using sqlplus locally on the server, it works fine. However, when I try the following I get error messages:
    SQL> conn system/system@botsdb
    ERROR:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Linux-x86_64 Error: 2: No such file or directory
I tried the same from my laptop through sqlplus and the error message is the same.
I checked if the database was up and to check this I executed follwing commands whicle still being logged as system/system:
    SQL>Select * from v$database;
    SQL>Select * from v$instance;
    SQL>Select * from tab;
These do bring results. Also if I try to start up the database again, it gives error message that the database is already up. I have restarted the db number of times, checked if my listener was listening on the service BOTSDB and these all seem fine.
It is very intriguing that when @BOTSDB is attached while connecting, the connection fails.
Can someone please guide me to sort this error?
    Thanks and kind regards,
    Aparna

  • Why do I get error 'Could not create temporary file. No space left on device" when I use the Engine Installation Wizard in TestStand?

The process gets to the NIVISA\SETUP.INI step, then I get this error.
I've tried with installing the MDAC and not, and it happens both times.
The drive I'm trying to create the file to has 7.4GB open on it, so I'm not sure why this is happening.
    Thank you,
    Dave Neumann

    Dave,
This is documented in the KnowledBase 2D6A63VW titled: "Error: Could Not Create Temporary File, No Space Left on Device".
As RByrd suggested, you might need to free up some memory space in your System Temp directory, OR you may change the location of your System Temp directory to one with more space (such as the directory where you want the TestStand Engine files to be saved). The Knowledbase shows how to do this step by step. This is its URL:

Music has been syncing correctly but after a while (such as when I tried to sync another playlist today) I get the following error. "Syncing error Offline syncing has stopped as there's no space left on this device." However, there definitely should be space left. The SD card shows 26.48 GB free out of a total 29.76 GB. (That's 3 GB used for the existing spotify cache. For what it's worth, there äs also 1.1 GB free on the device memory and 3.74 GB free in the internal storage. I have already tried clearing the Spotify cache and re-syncing everything but the same error comes up after a while. Is there some kind of limit coded into the app? Any what to get all my music to sync?

Hey! Thanks for your message. I was busy at work this week so I didn't have a chance to test it till today. I went through all the steps (hadn't tried a restart in the middle before) and even formatted the external SD card. I put it on to sync and this time it stopped after 2.6 GB. Same error message. Any other suggestions? Here are some more details. What are the steps you took to get to the error/issue?
(We need to know what you are doing so we can do the exact same to try and get the same error)
    1. Followed part B of the troubleshooting guide, including a format of the external SD card after uninstalling the app.2. Installed Spotify and put a bunch of playlists on to download. (About 1100 songs.)3. After a couple hours and having downloaded 2.6 GB I got the "no space left on device" error.  What I expected to happenI expect it to download all my playlists because Android reports that the SD card has over 27 GB free.  Did you restart your device when troubleshooting in section B?Yes Did you read the connection troubleshooting tips?No (doesn't seem applicable) Your device

Comment by: liquidsunshine on Tue, 14 Apr 2009 03:07:28 +0000
Also, you might want to fix the line in the PKGBUILD that says:
    pkgdesc="upload files to the AUR"
since it's not really accurate. =)
Comment by: Xyne on Wed, 15 Apr 2009 04:51:31 +0000
You just don't know about the hidden options :P
Sorry about the md5sum change. I've been updating nearly everything at once (refactoring, adding man pages, changing my build and upload scripts, changing the site backend, etc) and I haven't reached a stable point yet. Thanks for letting me know about it.
The funny thing is that I'm so tired right now and bouncing back and forth between so many things that I only saw the pkgdesc at first. I thought this was aurploader (where the desc came from) and thought you meant it should be "upload pkgs to the AUR" instead of "files"... and ended up discovering that they've changed the AUR submit form so I had to update aurploader (and fix all my package categories).

missing dependency: fmodex .. or rather, it can't find its libs directory.
Doing LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/df_linux/libs dwarffortress fixed this problem.
But then another problem appears: It can't find the index file and says it must be in the data folder.
Running the game as root works.

Wooops.. the person I had test it must have had that installed. Can you elaborate on the second error? The tester didn't mention anything about it. I can't test it at the moment myself. I'll try to get another pkgrel out tonight though.
Comment by: marenz on Thu, 28 Jan 2010 14:20:48 +0000
Well, Thats about all it says really.
I straced it and found that it tries to open data/index with READ-WRITE mode, but the file is owned by root and has only the READ right set.
After chowning it to root:games and setting it to chmod g+w it started. however, trying to create a world resulted in a segfault.
Doing chmod g+w on all files in data fixed it.

I get the same error like epsilom. I think the pkgbuild can currently not build an i686 package, but Ive no time to investigate/fix that at the moment..

    Just replace version in PKGBUILD

    updated to 10.0.42.34.
also, i believe, I have fixed the error re: strip. a 32bit system is unable to recognize or strip a 64bit binary. This package technically should only be installed on a 64bit host.

You ought to read my last post under yours ;-)
The proper way of making the present PKGBUILD is that--> e.g. provides=("smplayer=${_latestver}") , since I inform pacman for the real version of the package.
And I'm actually having as depedency the "extra" mplayer.

    hi, about the smplayer.desktop file.
i think you should use the %f argument for the Exec line instead of %u
because it's not necessary to translate filenames into URLs on a unicode-able system like linux

Update: added a patch made by wantilles, that restores alsa as default audio output driver (now it is pulseaudio)

    The Patch doesn't work.

  • Can't resize/repartition in Disk Utility: "No space left on device"

So I'm trying to get my Macbook (early 2008, base model) set up for triple-booting Leopard, Linux, and Windows XP. I've been using Boot Camp for about a month or so, and yesterday I used Boot Camp Assistant to remove the XP partition and make the Leopard partition 100% of the drive. Fine. After that, I was following this guide, and installed rEFIt to be able to choose from three operating systems on boot (as Apple's included bootloader only lets you choose Leo and Windows). Immediately after that (without restarting, maybe I should have) I tried to partition using diskutil from Terminal, with the following command:
    *sudo diskutil resizeVolume disk0s2 60G "MS-DOS FAT32" "Linux" 30G "MS-DOS FAT32" "Windows" 21G*
After going through Verifying, Resizing Volume, Adjusting Partitions, it finally giving me an error: "*Resizing encountered error on disk disk0s2 Macintosh HD: No space left on device (28)*", even though my drive is 120GB (around 111.8GiB) and I entered 60 + 30 + 21 GiB = 111 GiB. As per the above guide, I then tried:
    *sudo diskutil resizeVolume disk0s2 60G*
The above command should resize my main volume to 60GiB and leave empty space after. It also fails the same way. I then tried doing it using Disk Utility, but it gave me the same error. (Keep in mind that I am in Leopard during all this). I then attempt to restart, to see if maybe rEFIt changed something. I could not restart, due to my Mac not finding a boot drive (flashing folder with question mark). After a while of troubleshooting, I finally burned a rEFIt emergency CD and booted. I selected something like "Repair boot record" and restarted, which got rid of the flashing folder problem, but gave me "Cannot find operating system". I booted from the rEFIt CD again and selected "Boot from hard drive", which finally got me to boot Leopard. I went yet again into Terminal and tried a repairDisk, but I don't think that worked (since I was running off the internal drive). I booted from my Leopard CD and opened Disk Utility and tried: repairing the disk, repairing permissions, and partitioning. Repairing didn't find any errors, but partitioning gave me the same error as before, even though it is impossible to partition more than available in Disk Utility. I am currently sitting in Terminal, running off my Leopard CD, trying to figure out how to fix this. I have tried searching Google to no avail
Anyone have any idea on how to fix this? I could even do a reinstall if necessary, since I have a backup (good old Time Machine).
    Summary:
Can boot from drive after booting rEFIt CD.
    Can boot from Leopard CD.
    Error when trying to partition.
    Goal: make 3 partitions.
    Thanks much!
    Josh

    Update:
If I choose my boot partition as the Startup Disk while booted from the Leopard DVD and let it restart, it boots successfully. If I try to restart after that, I get "Error loading operating system" again.

  • Creating a folder results in "no space left on device"?

    Hi again,
today I encountered the following problem: trying to create a folder on one of my Xsan volumes resulted in a "no space left on device" error, although there are still 3.81 TB available.
I also tried copying a disk image of 160 MB to the volume which failed as well. Copying a plain file of 256 MB which I created using dd went just fine.
Creating a folder from the terminal resulted in an error, too.
    Any hints anyone?
    Thanks,
    Stephan

But what I don't get is why a single flat file can be still copied to the volume. Does a folder need "more" meta-data than a flat file?
Theoreticaly an interesting question. (which I do not have the answer for). In your situation I would focus on the full pool problem.
Probably your volume setting for storage allocation is still at the default "round robin". When you added a new pool you should have put it at "Balance". You still should do it now.
After that, you take some material which is on the full pool. Later you put it back. It should go to the most empty pool now.
There are also ways from the snfsdefrag command to accomplish this. Please read the manpage.

  • Update problems, no space left on device (ZTE Open)

I just received a ZTE Open device in the mail today, and after playing around with it a bit, I noticed that every time I tried to check for system updates, it would show me one 13.xx MB update, which I downloaded, apparently applied, and the phone seemed to restart itself, but then I would be shown the same (??) update available. The phone is without a SIM card, just playing with it connected via Wifi, with the 4GB microSD card installed. Then, this evening, I got an error message, which apparently was recorded on the SD card, a file called recovery.log (contents follow):

The SD card also contains a zip file in updates/fota/update.zip, which in turn contains patch/system/P752D04_DEV_US_20130726.zip, which contains: amss.mbn (about 20 meg) and boot.img (about 4 meg).

Just jumping in here, I received mine on the 23rd and I am also seeing the same problem, but the logs are a bit different. Although, I am running OPEN_US_DEV_FFOS_V1.0.0'''B02'''. While the recovery log states B01.
I'll toss my log up as well so trends can be examined.
