  • After lion 10.7 no audio sound

I have a mid 2009 MBP, it worked great on 10.6.8, but after installed 10.7, the audio icon gray out, and showing "The selected device has no output control".
It does has sound when boot up, and sound effect is no problem, only the output does not work.
I have to connect my earphone into the jack, and the error message of "The selected device has no output control", disappreared. After that unplug the earphone, everything works. However, once I reboot, the problem remains.
I brought it for service, and they claimed it was a software issue and they could not do anything. They suggested me to reinstall the Lion again.
When I rolled up to 10.6.8 everything worked, but once upgraded to 10.7, the problem was back.
I have reinstalled three times, however, the problem remains.
    Any suggestion ?

I had this problem today and was able to fix it. I updated to Lion release day so it hasn't been an issue from day one. It started when I restarted my computer today. I was able to hear sound, but I couldn't control it and my Macbook Pro was giving me this:
    and this:
I restarted it twice and nothing. I finally decided that I just didn't want to be able to hear sound (because I'm at work) so I plugged in head phones and then I played a song in iTunes just to make sure the music was coming through the headphones. Then whilet he music was still playing I pulled the headphones out and the volume icon at the top right became clickable again. That's all I did and now all my keyboard controls and everything work.
I hope this works for everyone.

  • Logic 9.1.7 + Lion 10.7.4 = constant sound card disconnect

Hey everybody, ever since I upgraded to Lion I've been having this problem. I'll be working in a project and then all of a sudden, my sound drops out completely. It's strange because my Presonus Firebox still shows the blue light which means it's connected, but the sound is cut off to my whole computer completely. I mean, iTunes, Internet, everything, no sound. The only way for me to fix this is to pull the firewire out and plug it back in. Then there is a brief moment where everthing resets and I have my sound back for a short while until it happens all over again. This baffles me because it never happened before Lion.
Another problem that started happening shortly before Lion, was the white flashing screen of death. I'll be working on a project, and then the screen freezes for no reason. any button I press causes the screen to flash white like a camera flash. The only thing I can do is play (the screen is still frozen though). I'm running an older 2009 macbook with only 2 GB of ram so I know I'm pushing it, but it's been running perfectly up until this update.
Does anyone else have these problems? I'm thinking I might just have to wait for the next Logic and/or OSX update.
    Thanks!

Good you found a work-around, the other method would be to start logic without core audio running... dbl click on the Logic icon in the applications folder and immediately hold down the Control key. Answer No to "Launch the Core Audio Driver?"
Have to say though.. Logic is becoming more and more fragile, it should not crash simply because the EXS can't find a file.

  • I have a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and have lost the sound in I Tunes. How to fix?

I have lost the sound in I Tunes. I have a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. All other sound is fine i just cannot get any sound from my music library.  How to fix?

    Hi janet,
Software that runs on your Mac cannot run on your iDevices. Different operating systems. You will have to go to the App Store on your iPad to see if you can find the equivalent software for your device.
    Sorry,

  • Bought a brand new iMac, got free Lion upgrade, installed it, NO SOUND

I went to best buy because I am opening a recording studio and i was sick of dealing with software a driver issues that i was having with Windows. So i bought a brand new iMac, it came factory with snow leopard but i was elligible for the free upgrade to lion, which i downloaded from the app store. I ran installation, and since then i have no audio control, when i go into "sound" settings it shows no audio input or output devices. This is my first time owning a mac so i am very unfamiliar with the operating systems and what not. This is quite frustrating when the main reason i bought this computer was for music and now i have no audio. I bought a Mac so i didnt have to deal with these sorts of issues. haha. if you have any insightful information for me, please shre. thank you.

    Hello:
    Try two things:
Reset the SMC and PRAM (instuctions in knowledge base articles.
If that does not help, either take the computer to an Apple strore or call Applecare.  You are within the warranty period so there should be no cost to you at all.

  • Installing Lion has effected my headphone sound!

Please can anyone advise I have a Macbook about 3 years old. Never had a problem before installing
    Rob

Might be coincidence, might be a change in the power-on self test, might be something else entirely (though I don't know what.) I suggest you take the machine to an Apple Store for testing.

  • Calendar alerts have no sound in Mountain Lion.

When I create apointments in Calendar in Mountain Lion and put (Message with sound) and choose my sound for the allert. When it pops up as a notification it does not make any sound. My notification for the Calendar app is set to (Alerts) not (Banners).
    Can anybody help
    Thanks

After trying many methods. I found this a temporary fix. The solution is to set a rule in Mail Preference to run an Applscripts if there is new email. This Applescript will play a notification sound of your choice:
tell application "Mail" to if (count of (every message of inbox whose read status is false)) isgreater than 0 then do shell script "afplay '/Applications/Mail.app/Contents/Resources/New Mail.aiff'"
You can change the path /Application/Mail.app/Contents/Resources/New Mail.aiff to any folder that containt an aiff file. For example: /System/Library/Sounds/Glass.aiff (in this folder you can find all the alert sounds of Mac OS)
    Applescript Editor
    1. Open Applescript Editor in Applications folder
    2. Paste the script in after choosing your notification sound path
    3. Save in ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.apple.mail (can name it New Mail in my example)
    4. Now you can choose the script in Mail Rules setting
    For the Mail rules setting
Open Mail Preferences then Rules then Add Rule. The setting like photo

It works like a charm !!!

  • Mac OSX lion issue sound [Audio Stops Work]

    Hi.
I have a mac book pro with mac os x lion, and something make my sound stops WORK!
i unninstal the mac keeper but the problem was nor solved [I read this in another forum]
When I play some sound a red light on the mini-jack port is turned on.
The Sound/Mid Configuration on Applications/Utilities doesnt abble to change Volume.
When I try to Up de Volume its indicates a forbidden icon.
    Anybody can help me please?
    Regards.
    Eric.

Had a similar problem with sound just disappearing and non selectable in Sound Preferences.  I thought it was the OS (Snow Leopard), but later discovered that the headset port somehow thought that it was in a different state like (headphone or optical or someplace inbetween).
By just plugging and unplugging a headset, it reset the port and now I had sound from the system, and the various output sound choices were again available in Sound Preferences.
    Hope that helps
    Cheers
    Chris

  • Lion Sound Issue measured.

    Hello
I have bought new MB Pro 13" /Lion 10.7.3/ few weeks ago.I am sound engineer and i decided to use digital output to connect notebok to my studio setup.
I noticed that sound is ugly, scooped and undetailed. I`ve been trying different soundcards but it didn`t change quality of sound.
I decided to measure what exactly is coming out from MB audio card. I used pink noise and SatLive measuring software. In the window, pink noise should be completely flat, as You can see it is far from flat, has scooped hi-mids and huge bump in highs. This is completely useless in pro world and even my girlfriend can listen difference between my MB and Her /the same model but older OSX/.
I am dissapointed, tried every tip I found online...any ideas?
    Bart

    Ok, this is the answer:
I erased OS partition and and instaled Lion one more time. Sound is clean.

  • No sound after Mountain Lion upgrade in Mac Mini.

I upgraded my Mac Mini (Early 2009) to Mountain Lion and I have no sound anymore - I do not see internal speakers in sound system preferences. I tried resetting PRAM and NVRAM, tried headphones jack plugging-in-out trick, nothing works so far. Any ideas?
I used to watch movies in 5.1 sound, but even a simple stereo does not work.
My pref pane looks like this:

I have the same problem:  Almost a year later.  Like you, I tried all the suggestions given in these forums.  Nothing has worked.  Is it possible that there is still not a solution after all this time?
Does Apple have a fix yet?
Do any users have a fix?

  • OS X Lion - no iChat alerts sounds

Since upgrading to Lion, I have no audable sounds of any kind.  I not referring to video chats, send/Rec/login/logout.
And on the 2 machines I've upgraded, iChat does not save the window sizes.
Thankfully, neither are show stoppers however, it just ain;t right.
    Thanks in advance
    Banjo

    Umm,
I don't seem to be in this Thread until now.
iChat Menu > Preferences > Alerts
If these sounds play here then the issue is System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effects and the Volume the Alerts are played there.
During day to day use the Alerts are played by the System Alerts settings.
    NOTE on Windows.
iChat 3, 4 and 5 save the size of the Outgoing Video Chat window (and it's Position) whereas the Incoming ones get placed in there default places (i.e same for Audio Chats)
If your Mac is a little low on the Processor size the Window may resize to the default it happens to be using.
Ideally most Intel Macs will use 640 X 480 and then play with the framerate.(starting at 30fps)
Around 15fps iChat will change to 480 X 320 which may increase the Frame rate when used.
Internet Speeds also has a bearing and there are two smaller sizes iChat can use to get the best out of the Connection.
    .plists
com.apple.ichat.plist does "hold" the Remembered Window positions in iChat 5 and below
However deleting it does return all other settings to default  (It will not lose the Buddy list)
iChat 6 is affected by the setting in System Preference > Genereal Pane that can be set to Remember open windows on Quit the next time it is launched (It affects all apps if set)
If the mentioned .plist is deleted iChat needs to be restarted.
com.apple.ichatAgent.plist holds the current Accounts that are logged in (or should be on iChat launch)
It also holds the iTunes Playing Status Mesage sort order for the info (Track, Artist, Album) and the Current Status Message (can be Messages if the Buddy list are set to Different statuses)
It also holds where you own Buddy Pic is on your system.
On occasions this has to be deleted the Computer should be restarted as iChatAgent starts up when the computer does.  (There is a partial login for Off Line IMs)

  • Mountain lion sound

I've upgraded to Mountain Lion and now have no sound! I can see that the 'Mute' box is checked but can't find a way to 'uncheck'. Anyone else found a solution?

I have the same issue here. Since I found the same when I first installed Lion, I am not surprised but still looking for the fix on Lion Mountain. I trust it is a matter of time.

  • How do i connect the sound from my imac to hdtv?

I am using a Kanex cable from an imac to hdtv, went into system preferences and set the sound to the tv. This worked fine yesterday, but for some reason does not work today.

  • How do I get the sound back from my computer?

I have a MacBook Pro late 2008 and running Lion.  I have lost sound in my computer.  I can jiggle the laptop and get it to work but then it quits.
Any ideas what a new sound system costs?  Is there an alternative option?
    Thanks.

    Resetting NVRAM or
Finder Go menu -> Go to.. ~/Library/Preferences, then delete
    com.apple.recentitems.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    ByHost/com.apple.soundpref.xxx.plist
    com.apple.systemsound.plist
and reboot could solve your problem.
