Lion 10.7.4 and wi fi connection loss

I have seen others are suffering the same problem that I am since upgrade to Lion 10.7.4 that my internet connection via wifi will keep dropping every 5-10 mins. The only way to get it back is to keep switching teh router on and off which is driving me crazy as my iMac is in a location one floor away from where the router is.
How is this to be resolved? Is apple able to release some sort of 'patch' to repair this problem. It is having a high effect on my work flow.
HELLLLLP! DRiving me nuts!

I have been posting the following to as many new threads on this  issue as possible. A possible solution is to delete the SystemConfiguration folder in your Library/Preferences folder. Then reboot. The system will remake this folder and it might fix your problem. I don't guarantee this for everyone, but it worked for me on the three Macs I have, all of which were having this problem before I deleted this file.
Let us all know if this does or does not works for you.

  • We have just installed  Lion  and now cannot connect to MyExpat

we have just installed OS X Lion, v10.7.2  and now cannot connect to MyExpatNetwork on my Macbook pro. Any suggestions?

yeah-find out where you're downloading stuff to, and stick with it. I'm using FireFox and tell it to save the driver and stuff on the desktop, and when I quit FireFox, there it is on the desktop. you'll also need your admin password. It should show up as a .dmg file, then double-click on it to open it. You should see "Brother.pkg" . start up brother.pkg (double click??) and folow the instructions that ought to appear to install the printer driver.  If the .dmg file doesn't mount, use Disk Utility** to mount it and get it working. Then you should see the package.  and then you can install it.
** you may have to click on the .dmg file and choose "Get Info" then Open with, then choose disk utility, and then open with then change all. then close it. Hopefully that ought to work. If you cannot remember your admin password, I can't help you right now. Looks like you'd need it, to let Brother install that printer driver.
    well, enough for tonight
if this didn't help you, then ask me again tomorrow

    Hi,
I purchased Huawei Dongle and trying to connect with my new MacBook Pro (OS- Mountain Lion) USB port 3.0 but unfortunately it does not support.
When I plugged in my macbook the power is flowing in dongle due green light blinking twice in every 3 sec but no connection found or diver shown.
Please let me know how I have to use it. I got some suggestion for USB hub 2.0 but It does not make any sense and driver installation.
So please suggest proper direction to use it and provide link to install any driver.
    Thanks
    Tauheed Ahmad

Yes Clinton I did same, but they were (Huawei customer support) surprised about this problem, They behave like they have no idea about USB 2.0 and  3.0 knowledge. They handsUp that reason I posted my problem in this forum.
So is there any better solution to use any mediator between these USB version handling, Please let me know.
    Thanks

Until the MacBook Air was released and supported in 10.5, the Mac did not consider USB to be a valid Networking Protocol. So set the Mac with USB solutions aside.
To connect computer-to-computer, you typically need to be using an Ethernet crossover cable. Assigning the same address to two Ethernet devices is never the solution -- it gives a Network Conflict, just as you said.
If your Windows box has some mechanism for Sharing its WiFi connection over Ethernet, you would have to follow its rules. Whether that means Manually assigning an Ethernet Address in the same range or the PC will provide the Address, I do not know.
Best success may be running an Ethernet cable to your Wired/Wireless Base Station, or using a "gaming adapter" (Ethernet-to-Wireless no drivers required) connected to the Mac's Ethernet port to give it WiFi access. What is your Base Station {Cable, DSL, FIOS, Other} ? Ethernet cables can be up to 100 meters (an American Football Field). Often the Base Station can be moved closer for more convenience.

To free up hard drive space the best bet is to move data files that you don't need access to all the time. Likely candidates are music, video, and photos. Things like word processing and spreadsheet files can also be moved but they tend not to be very large and so don't free up much space. The problem with moving the above mentioned files is that iTunes and iPhoto need to know where the files are stored.
Here's an article explaining how to move the iTunes folder. You can move the iPhoto library using the Finder but there is a slight complication. Start iPhoto, open the Preferences and click on the Advanced tab. The first option is "Copy items to the iPhoto Library". If this option is checked, copy the iPhoto library to your external folder (drag it from the Pictures folder to your external drive) and then delete it from your Picture folder. If this option is not checked, it is a bit more complicated and we'll need to talk a bit.

My MAC MINI looses the wi-fi connection to a Belkin N wireless router when it goes to sleep or shuts down.  I have to re select the network when re starting or waking up the computer.  I think this just started with LION.  My iPod and iPad have no problem remembering the wireless network.

Thank you BGreg.  That is what I have been doing, and then it works just fine.  I think it was doing the same thing in the previous version of Lion.  I may be incorrect about that.  I upgraded to 10.7.3 a few weeks ago, and then last week I reloaded the combo update, hoping it would help.  Not so.  Thank you for letting me know it is a common problem.  I have tried permissions in Disk Utilities, and in Macaroni, both at least 4 times, plus numerous restarts.  Nothing Improves.  It still can not find the internet when it wakes up or gets up.

    Hello:
There was an OS X 10.7 update released a month or so ago that fixed this problem.  Run software update.

  • Magic Mouse tracking poorly and losing Bluetooth connectivity since Mountain Lion upgrade

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I have experienced frequent and inconsistant tracking from my Magic Mouse. It will work fine and then out of no where, and without any connection to a particular app or process (that I can identify) it will begin stop moving or move in a very jittery fashion. I'm also experiencing Bluetooth connection loss with the mouse from time to time out of nowhere. I cleaned the mouse and even went to so far as to replace it with another, brand new Magic Mouse and have seen the same problem.
I have also tried resetting PRAM and SMC.
Anyone else experiencing this or a similar issue? Have any suggestions of things to try?
    Mac Pro (Early 2008)
    Processor  2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  26 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8 (12A269)

Well , regarding of this issue i did some tests and i've reached to some conclusions to fix it.
    Steps
    1. turn off the magic mouse
    2. remove batteries
    3. put everything back and power on.
    4. pair your mouse again if you remove it from the tab
    5. leave the option discoverable marked down
    6. add to favorite from bluetooth menu (you will see a red heart with yes )
    7. should work for now
Test 1 : Mac mini 2010 with OSX Lion 10.7.4
Test 2 : MBA 2012 with OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.1
Conclusion : still have a bug not showing the right battery level (only 100%)but if you use "iStat" widget you will see the real level.
Magic mouse doesn't have, unfortunatelly the multipoint technology so if you use on multiple cpu in the same area can create instability (leave only one of a time and remove it from the bluetooth tab on other cpu)
I belive its working only using step 6, but to be sure

Been waiting along time for this problem to be fixed. Unfortunately the update hasn't help at all and even made the situation worse. Now my airplay connection from iMac to stereo abruptly stops after about 10-15 min. so I have to go over and quit wifi, start it up and find my airport network. Not sure why it always has a problem with the apple airport network. My neighbor's pc network is always there.

  • I have OSX lion 10.7.2 and want this pos to automatically connect to my linksysy router

I have an early 2011 Macbook Pro with OSX Lion (10.7.2) and I want this POS to connect to my linksys router automatically just like all my other computers (Vista) do. I have to join network EVERY time I want to go online. Any ideas? My system prefs, network has my network set up as join automatically but it NEVER does.

Turn off the "hidden network" feature of your router, it serves no purpose as hackers can see it regardless if it's hidden or not.
Mac's won't automatically connect to hidden networks, only upon a reboot it will, it's so the Mac isn't going around saying "joe network are you there?" all the time as thats a security issue.
    Follow these Wifi security steps
    Setting up a wifi router
there is really only one secure way left to make sure your not hacked. WEP and WPA are both cracked. A too small of a password is easily brute forced by new graphics based cracking software and worldwide botnets.
1: Update your router firmware. For Airport it's easy, just use Software Update and/or update in Airport Utility.
2: WPA2 (AES) Personal easier (or Enterprise)
3: 2 - Random 20+ letter, number, character, symbol, case passwords. One for the Admin use of the router only, kept off the machine and locked in a safe, the other for Internet Access only used on all devices.  A password this strong will take until the next Big Bang to crack, perhaps a quarter of that as technology improves. Certainly not in your lifetime.
4: MAC address filtering and invisible networks are no match for hackers. Don't bother.
5: Rotate the Internet Access password to keep people you don't want back on, from coming back. Once they have the password it's logged permanently into their machines. They could delete it, but most don't know they can or won't.

    Hi there Bry,
If you want to be able with out it syncing automatically, you can disable the automatic syncing feature following the instructions in the article below.

  • How do I get my macmini running Mountain Lion to see my Canon USB printer connected to my Airport Extreme? I have a macbook pro running leopard and that works fine. The versions of airport utility are different and I can't even see the printer from new 1

I am having trouble seeing my usb printer from my second gen airport extreme using the newest version of airport utility under Mountain Lion. UGH! And while I can see and network to my Canon IP5000 from my macbook pro running leopard, I can't from my new macmini running Mountain Lion. Any help would be appreciated in configuring my macmini so it can see the Canon IP5000 on the airport extreme. Don't want to "share" the printer from the laptop because that would be a cludge. Thanks ahead

I solved this one based on another post. Turned out I needed the snow leopard IP5000 driver. I had just copied over the leopard driver (I had saved my .dmg file) and installed that but it didn't work. So I downloaded the latest driver which turned out to be for snow leopard and I am guessing since it is 64bit that is why it worked and the leopard driver didn't. Anyway, I also had to hook the printer up via usb to the mac mini to get it to work locally before the O/S would see it over Bonjour via the airport extreme.
