Lion 10.7 and Safari

I recently (yesterday) updated to 10.7 Lion and since the install, Safari has become pretty much useless.
I'm new to the world of Mac and this is frustrating.  Until the update,the machine was exceptional.  Computer is a 21 " iMac, 3.06GHz
4 g memory, one year old.  Has anyone else seen this, or is there a fix?

Useless is meaningless, so you'll have to enumerate your issues. The simplest thing to do is restore the bootable backup/clone or Time Machine backup of your previous installation and run with that.

  • Mountain Lion (10.8) and Safari bugs

    Hello,
    I want to chime in and list the bugs in Safari since my install of Mac OS 10.8.0
    Java does not function as it should. It's buggy and generates errors, stops on errors and wont load data from some websites correctly.
    My main concern centres around my work place and our use of IP video cameras to record people coming and going. We login to individual camera's on occasion to check streaming. 10.6.x and Safari never failed at this but 10.8 and the new Safari will load the first few frames of a stream and then the stream will halt. Investigation has pointed towards Java and a possible Safari incompatibilty. Google Chrome and Opera have similar issues, FireFox on the other hand works as it should.
    We also use FileMaker Pro 12 to display some of our camera feeds (custom WebViewer windows) for a receptionist, which work great under 10.6.8 and it's underlying WEB Kit engine. Mac OS 10.8 fails on this front, loading a few frames of live content, with the stream freezing there after. This does not affect the functionality of FileMaker just the the live streaming from our camera's.
    Any input from other readers would be of assistance.
    p.s. A quick trip to a Genius Bar was futile as the rep had no knowledge of Mountain Lion, Java or Safari...

  • Magic Track Pad with Lion 10.7 and Safari zoom aA vs Pinch to zoom

    Hi,
    I enjoy a Mac Mini (early 2009) hooked to a 50 inch plasma and surf from my couch, stream etc... We browse with Safari 5.X and enjoyed the new Magic Track Pad with Snow Leopard. You could zoom / scale Safari with Snow Leopard beautifully, with a pinch out on the trackpad, same function as aA option on the browser task bar.
    Now with Lion, the pinch to zoom feature zooms but doesn't scale the safari window the same way aA option used to.  In lion a pinch out to zoom in will push a significant part of the browser screen off / out of view.
    The aA option on the safari task bar scales the window, and keeps everything visible but larger, but now in Lion it is not available from the Magic Track Pad Gestures. The Button is still there on the browser but there is no option to access it from the track pad with a gesture.
    How can I revert to the old way of zooming / Scaling a Safari web page with my Magic track pad in Lion?
    Thanks,
    H

    You can see in that screenshot that a lot of browser.gesture.pinch prefs have an empty string as their value and thus won't have any effect.
    You can restore some zoom feature by modifying the values of the related prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page via the right-click context menu.
    * browser.gesture.pinch.in -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReduce</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.out -> <b>cmd_fullZoomEnlarge</b>
    * browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    You may want to toggle this pref (I don't know what effect this has):
    * browser.gesture.pinch.latched -> <b>false</b>

    d Pacifist to reinstall both the Safari
    application and the WebKit framework
    was that before the 10.4.6 combo was applied?
    Nope, I tried the Pacifist route after applying the combo update.
    It does sound as if webkit is busted at the moment.
    What version of osx is on your install disks?
    Not sure, I'll have to check them.
    I'd like to avoid a archive & install, but I'm beginning to think it's my only remaining option.

  • Sarafi won't start up. Hard drive crashed, reinstalled Lion from Safe Mode. and Safari still won'topen. I get an error message. There are no files in the extensions folder.

    How do I clear the error in Safari? I've reinstalled Lion 3 times and the error won't clear.

    Well Apple Suupport is still tops in every book.
    The fix for my problem was so ridiculously simple, I can't beleived it worked.
    But somehow the mouse install disk (stuck in the drive) was disrupting the start up. I was instructed to take the batteries out of the wireless mouse.
    IT WORKED.
    Not sure if anyone that's had this similar problem is using wireless devices, but take the batteries out of them, use plug in devices to work around the problem, eject the CD and if you luck out like I did, it'll work
    Thanks Apple my faith is renewed

  • Frequent crashes on Mail and Safari since Lion installed

    Since upgrading to Lion on my mid 2007 20inch iMac I get extremely frequent Mail and Safari crashes, usually a few seconds after launch with no user input, and all with the same error on the crashed thread:
    __THE_SYSTEM_HAS_NO_PORT_SETS_AVAILABLE__
    This even occurs after a totally clean install and no migration of any previous user data. I am only using iCloud for email.
    I have tried repairing permissions and run disk checks which are all OK.
    Any suggestions?

    Can you check system update? I think I did a system Update 1st, a day before installing OSX Lion and there is a Safari update. If not try logging in iCloud.

  • Mail and safari won't work after installing lion.

    After upgrading my computer to Snow Leopard then to Lion I am unable to open Safari and Mail.  The computer says the versions I have are not compatible with Lion.  I have checked to see if there are any available updates by selecting the apple at the top left - the computer states it is up-to-date.
    Does anyone know a solution to this problem?
    Thank you!

    Please check to see if both the Mail app and Safari app were located at the root level of the Applications folder, and not renamed in any way.  Unless that is the case, the Upgrade to Lion may not work correctly.
    However, also look with Spotlight to see if there are more than one version of each on your Mac, as your links in the Dock might refer to now outdated ones.

  • I just downloaded the newest update for mountain lion. After downloading and restarting for installation, I got a message stating that  the update cannot be installed due to an error. Yet when I check I have version 10..8.3 and safari version

    I just downloaded the newest update for mountain lion. After downloading any restarting for installation, I got a message stating that the update cannot be installed due to an error. Yet when I check I have version 10..8.3 and safari version 6.0.3, which the update was for.  Does this mean that the update is iinstalled and the message was incorrect?

    Good timing! Oh well, at least you shouldn't have to update again for a while. It will be nice kickstarting your Mac with the very latest System Update knowing any hiccups from 10.8.2 would have been ironed out if they were going to affect your workflow at all.
    Cheers and Happy Computing

  • Do Mountain Lion and Safari 6.2.2 support SHA-256 Hash algorithms in HTTPS security certificates?

    I use SalesForce for my client CRM. I've just received a notice informing me that they are upgrading from SHA-1 hash to SHA-256 for increased HTTPS certificate security. Will my current OS X version (Mountain Lion) and Safari version (6.2.2) support this upgrade?

    NEVERMIND! SalesForce provided a test page and I was able to determine that both my Mac and Windows environments and browsers support the upgrade.

  • Flash on Lion and Safari

    I'm running Lion 10.7.1 and Safari 5.1.  No matter how many times I install Flash Player, Safari won't recognize it and tells me I need to download the latest version.  I'm reduced to watching videos on another browser.  Any ideas?

    I'm having the same problem on Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Safari 5.1.
    Flash video seems to have stopped working in the last few days.  Oddly, youtube plays, but many others don't.
    It keeps telling me I need to update to a more recent Flash, and I have done, twice.

  • I have lost safari browsing, reinstalled it,  added update combo for lion and safari, now I don't have even have a drop down menu  under my apppleon the top tool, sometimes no responses to anything....stange garbled messages....reset safari many times...

    How do I know what I am running....how do I know if I stillave snow leaopard, after I bought the lion updade 29.99, safari stopped browisng....nothing is rigt, lost lots of fucnctions...don't know where my browser is, don't have a druop donw menu under apple on tolbar.
    RE installed 105.1 (orsomething,my appleico is blank), reinstalled safari  5.1.1, will not browse or searc....history or topsites picture windows anymore.....alll Icando is browse withyahoo, which I don't want. I don't know what a gmail counter is, or why  I have it all of a sudden, but can't get rid of it. Picasa rarel letmeclose it....what can I do?
    No Dock an more either.
    Preferences. or services under apple icon, ust startup disk, restart, shutdown.

    What you're describing makes no sense; it's a jumble of thoughts and supposed actions, but no concrete information to tell us anything.
    If you downloaded Lion, that would not cause what you describe. If you had Snow Leopard running when you downloaded Lion, that also wouldn't cause what you describe. So you had to ahve done something to end up in this state. You say you reinstalled 105.1, but there is no such thing; more likely you mean Mac OS X 10.5, in which case you've answered your own questionn about having Snow Leopard installed anymore.
    But if you did that, the question is why? Unless there was something catastrophic wrong with Snow Leopard, there would be no reason to reinstall Leopard. You also describe browsing with Yahoo, but that's not possible because Yahoo is not a browser. The Dock also does not just go "missing".
    You're going to need to reinstall Leopard using the Archive & Install option, and then install Snow Leopard to get back to a usable state. If you have a backup from prior to when all these problems began, that's good. If not, then you will have to take your chances on losing all your data if this doesn't work.
    Startup from your Leopard disc (if your system came with Leopard), choose your language, and then start the install process. Be sure to choose Archive & Install and Preseve Users and Network Settings before you start the installation. When it's done, let it restart and then check to be sure everything is in working order. If it is, put the Previous Systems folder in the Trash and empty it.
    Then download the 10.5.8 Combo Update from the Apple web site and apply it. Restart and check to be sure everything is working.
    Post back when you've done that.

  • Security updates for Lion and Safari

    Small question: Is OS Lion and Safari still receiving security updates from Apple? Or has this OS and browser been abandoned by Apple?
    Have a macbook 2,1 (late 2006) and this is the last version of OS that I can run Upgraded laptop with extra memory and it is still running smoothly !

    You machine is at the end of its life and can't be upgraded to a more recent OS.
