Lion and CS5

After moving my current PS and Bridge over from an older iMac to my new iMac with Lion I get error messages when I attempt many routine tasks. ie raw files to save as jpg or tifs - says folder is locked or don't have the necessary  access priveldges, etc. When I try to quit Bridge it states that Bridge has unexpectedly quit... I can't delete images from Bridge without going to the Finder and doing it there. When I shut down PS I get a "Could not save preferences because file is locked...etc"
But here's the strange (to me) part. All of this works fine when I am working from an external HD in Bridge and PS. (?)
Please help.  Thanks
Philip Amdal

Your disk permissions are messed up. Photoshop and Bridge are unable to save preferences, because you do not have permission to write or modify files in your own preferences folder.
You need to fix all your disk permissions to get things working correctly again..

  • Clean install Lion and CS5.5 resulting in some programs in 5.1 version

I've formatted my drive and clean installed Lion (without 10.6 first) and directly Adobe Creative Suite 5.5.
But the stange thing is that some versions are not 5.5 but 5.1.
These are Bridge, Contribute, Encore, Fireworks, Illustrator, Onlocation and Photoshop!
What could be happened, but better.... how to solve this so I have my 5.5 versions.
    Tnx

This is correct. No all applications were upgraded to 5.5.
    There's nothing wrong at all.

  • Lion and CS5 Standard

At the moment, I have Snow Leopard on my Pro Mac Quad-Core. Should I uninstall CS5 before installing Lion OS, or upgrade without having to uninstall CS5. Please kindly advise me.

Ask yourself this: What reason do you have moving to Lion?
If you have a good reason or it has to be done, I encourage you to do it as a clean install.

Sorry to say it, but I think you can see from Bob's response that there's no way to solve this rapidly.
Did you take an image of your Mountain Lion install before upgrading to Yosemite? Roll back to that. If you're not in the habit of taking a snapshot of your system before performing operating system upgrades - get in that habit. If you are dependent on anything at all on hour computer, having a reliable backup method in place is essential. If you don't have a Time Capsule, or some other way to run Time Machine onto a disk that's not in your computer, go set that up yesterday.
If you can't just remove Yosemite and roll back to Mountain Lion for whatever reason, you can partition your drive so that you can install both Yosemite and Mountain Lion on the same drive, and then boot into Mountain Lion when you need to work in CS5. Or you can take your Mountain Lion disc (I assume you have one, no?) and then use it to create a virtual machine in something like VirtualBox to run Mountain Lion from inside Yosemite.

  • Are there any problems with Lion and Adobe CS5 ?

I am wanting to upgrade to Lion but don't want to have the hassle of trying to fix any problems as I have heard some people had problems with earlier versions of Adobe Creative Suit and Lion and having recently moved I have no clue where my CS5 keys are so before doing so I want to know there will be no errors.
Peoples experiences would be appreciated and many thanks.

I have upgraded two Mac mini's which both have the Adobe Creative Suit Cs5 Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. I have had no issues regrding the upgrade, they just work.
However I do have two user interface issues. InDesign the keyboard page up, page down keys no longer work as expected, they simply jump to the next screen, the workaround is to use a trackpad for the left hand and use two finger scrolling.
The other is the arrow buttons in the vertical scroll bar no longer exist, so again the trackpad comes in for scrolling.
This applies for almost all software and the finder.

To be honest, I continue to find the tone of your prose to be arrogant and surreptitiously condescending. As to respondents to my post being posers or NDA-qualified development program participants, I did not prequalify them. Non-anecdotal... all are welcome.

  • OSX Lion and Photoshop CS5 "scratch disc error"

I've been using Photoshop CS5 for awhile now (about a year and a half). Up to yesterday I was running OSX Snow Leapord with no issues. Yesterday I upgraded to OSX Lion and today, my first day using Photoshop in Lion, I'm getting repeated "scratch disc error" messages with a "quit" button (no other options). Photoshop works fine for awhile, three hours or so, and then I'll get the "scratch disc error" message and will be forced to quit Photoshop and restart.
My main drive is a 2Tb drive with 1.7Tb of available space, so I'm sure scratch disc space isn't a problem. I've got about another Tb of scratch disc space available on two other internal drives. I've got 14Gb of Ram, all memtested and working perfectly. It clearly seems to be an issue with OSX Lion since it never happened before today. A few other details: I'm up to date with Photoshop CS5, I have Open GL turned off because I'm on an older Mac Pro (a 3.0 Ghz dual quad core, 2.1) and my video card doesn't play nicely with Open GL (a whole different kind of crash).
All three times I've gotten the "scratch disc error" pop-up today it seems to have been when I open multiple files. This last time I opened something like 8 files. Big deal; sometimes I open 40 or more without any problems. So can anyone please help me with this issue? I have yet to lose any of my work (I save constantly - a habit born out of past frustrations), so it's managable, but it shouldn't be happening.
    Thanks.

I am havng this same exact problem. Recently, I reinstalled my OSX Lion fresh, and also just installed CS5.5 Design Premium. I have been experiencing this same error repeatedly.
On my computer there are two separate Scratch Discs (non-partioned) and when the error first popped up, I tried switching between Scratch Discs. One at a time, even using other drives and still received the same error. I've done everything I can find suggested to no avail. All OS updates are done, CS5.5 is updated, permissions repaired, disks repaired, graphics driver current, OpenGL disabled, etc....
If we can determine a fix, it would be greatly appreciated. Photoshop is an awesome tool that I use extensively, and this is driving me insane!
BTW, here is the error I believe he is getting (same one I see way too many times a day)
    Thanks, Billy

  • Anyone have Lion and Photoshop CS5 issues?

I was using Photoshop CS successfully on my iMac (bought in 2008) until I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion and it stopped working.  I installed CS5, and it doesn't work well at all; when I try to open and work on an 800 MB file it freezes and sticks and I get the spinning ball continuously. I am currently 4GB RAM. CS5 works great on my husband's computer and he has the same amount of Ram, and he is still using Snow Leopard. I also use Wacom Intuos 3 but the same thing happens with my mouse . I don't know what to do to improve the performance of CS5. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Indesign CS5 and CS5.5 crash on new document / Lion 10.7

    Hello!
In our agency we encountered a problem since upgrading to OS X Lion 10.7. Both our Indesign CS5 and CS5.5 keep crashing on us whetver we open an existing document or create a new one. We tried to clean-up our installations, deleted both, installed just CS5 and/ CS5.5 - trashed preferences etc. pp. Nothing worked.
Indesign opens like it should - but the moment we create a document it just hangs with the spinning ball - does anyone else can recreate the issue? We use no plugins in indesign only the app "Fontcase" from the Appstore to maintain our collection of fonts.. but we even tried to deactivate this app to see if it helps - no success.
We currently cant set up the system new since it is time consuming and just our last choice.. is there some other way to find the problem? We also never see the adobe crash-reporter.. not even after 10-15 minutes as stated in the lion os x issue list.
    Thanks!

    Ah, this is easy.
You have a problem with the SING module, see http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408816.html.

  • Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and CS5

Hi,  I just installed Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and when i now try to open CS5 i receive a message that i need a Java SE 6 runtime. I downloaded, and installed, JRE 7 thinking this would be ok, but i still receive the same message.  I assumed this version of Mountain Lion would work with CS5 given other forum discussions on Mountain Lion and CS 5.  Do i specifically need 6 rather than 7?

    Hi,
Please download and install Java Runtime from this location. It should fix the issue.

  • Can I install Mountain lion and keep my Adobe CS5 OK?

I wanna know if my Adobe creative will be OK after installing Mountain Lion?

I upgraded from Lion to Mt Lion and it didn't affect my CS 5 installation at all. Still, as rkaufmann87 noted you should always back up your computer before you upgrade. Disaster can happen.

  • I have installed Lion and the Java update but my CS5 PS will not open jpegs to edit.

I have loaded Lion, and updated my Java but for some reason my Photoshop doesn't want to load pictures. I can see them in the layers, but the actual image is just not coming up. Maybe this is nothing to do with Lion, but if anyone has any ideas it would be great! Really don't want to have to reload everything from SL if possible. My other Adobe programs work fine.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

After Java is installed, you may need to enable it.
In your Applications > Utilities folder, you should find the Java Preferences.app.
Double click on that, and in the ‘General’ tab, make sure that the enable checkbox at the top is checked.

  • Can you switch back between CS5 and CS5.5 with the same project with Premiere??

    Hey all,
I just got CS5.5 for Mac (Lion) and was wondering if i am able to save a project and open it with CS5 Premiere because I work with one other editor who has CS5. I have tested saving a project in CS5.5 and opening it in CS5 but it says that it needs to convert first but then it seems to work fine. So basically, is there workflow good between the 2? Any known issues or anything else i should know about when switching back and forth?
Also, I have the student edition of CS5.5 and was wondering how many times can I install it? I plan on buying a new computer in a few months from now but currently have 2 and was wondering if i should install it on both my current computers and then deactivate one and install it on my new computer in the future? Or is there a limit and that will not work?
    Thanks!!

Because it has to create a new "version" of your project every time you go back and forth, you'll end up with umpteen versions if you go back and forth every time which could become a nightmare for you... And because it creates new "versions" every time, you're far more likely to end up with a corrupted file at some point... I'd stay away of going back and forth between versions...
As an aside, does anyone know if you can go back and forth between the same version (CS5.5) on different platforms (Mac/PC)? I may need to start doing that soon at work, and I've never tried...

The newest version of CS2 is CS5. And it was made very clear that these applications would not run in Lion. Not only by Apple, but on all sorts of communities and websites. It has been a long time coming - PowerPC apps were outdated six years ago. Lion does not support Rosetta, and therefore not PPC apps.
you have to options. Go back to Snow Leopard or upgrade your software. (MS Office 2004 and older will not run either).
