Lion and iWork install DVD

If I have Lion 10.7.4, does the installer DVD still work? I have and iWork 904 installer DVD and don't want to have to spend extra money on the App store.

I was waiting to try until I posted the question here. I figured if it wouldn't work, then I wouldn't waste the time and just repurchase via the app store.. thanks for the info!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting and reinstall Mountain Lion. If you have a backup, you can erase the disk in Disk Utility, reinstall Mountain Lion and restore your backup

  • After Lion and iWork-update: all fonts are kind of broken

After updating everything: Really had some issues with iTunes and iWork not starting anymore, and didn't update anymore, too.
Worked that out by downloading it directly from Apple's download-website. Everything seemd fine.
But now: every iWork-files seem to be corrupted. All text is unreadable, fonts/characters are chaotic. EVERY iWork file is unsuable!!!!
Strange thing: everything worked out fine with my other Mac.
Any idea? This is a desaster!

Hallo everybody and thanks for all replies!
After deleting all caches everything works fine again (⌥ ⌘ P  R while booting, waiting for second or even thinrd "beep").
The problem only occured on my MBP, not on my iMac. As my MBP became unsualy very hot, too, my guess is: The MBP ha to less time for re-indexing afte the installation of Lion (I almost immediately started working again). Over night there is no heating-up issue anymore. Seems the caches-clearing and enough re-indexing time did it.

  • How to uninstall lion and re-install snow leopard

  • I have a '13-inch, Early 2009' MacBook.  I want to restore it to its factory settings (I have the 'Mac OS X Install DVD' and 'Applications Install DVD').  At this time, I am completely up-to-date with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3.  My question is:

After I restore the computer, will I also lose Lion?  If so, will it be possible to get it back?  Will it be possible to catch back up to the latest software without having to spend any money?  I bought and installed Snow Leopard when it came out, but no longer have a physical copy of that disc.

    Hi Linux,
I was about to restore my MacBook when I came upon this screen:
Is this not an indication that it intends on reinstalling it back to its "factory settings", which means OS X Leopard?
I'm simply afraid that I will be reverted back to 'Leopard', and then be forced to either stick with what I've got, or to spend unnecessary money in order to catch back up.

  • What happened with Lion and iWork, who messed up?

I used to love my Mac with Leopard and working with my iWork apps. specially keynote... until my upgrade to Lion!
Now all I get is the rolling ball, it is slow, I cannot save as well as before, now every presentation I made is locked or if i make a change is a nightmare... what happened. Who messed up a nice working application and how do I fix my this?

I may be wrong, but I believe you can only pair the trackpad to one device at a time, so if it is paired with and working with the iPad, I would  try unpairing it there and then pair it with your laptop.
By the way, how did you get the Mac OS Leopard to install and work on an iPad?
Edit: I just looked at the owners manual and you do have to unpair it before being able to pair it with something else:

  • What is up with iWork install DVD's?

First one, bad, gave install error at 98%. Drive could not read past that point. Tried twice, failed both times, scanned disk and it failed to even get through the scan. Took it out and noticed deep scratch on outer edge. Exchanged for new iWork, took it home (mistake) and immediately opened and observed two dimples in reflective layer on the outer edge. Tried install same results. See for yourself -

So, am I that unlucky? I've never had trouble with any Apple software. Anyone else finding it hard to get a good disc?

I used Toast, it's a great app and honestly worth getting either way.
    Otherwise:
For Mac OS X 10.3 or later
Insert the DVD-R disc into the SuperDrive.
Open the Disk Utility application. It's in the Utilities folder, which is in your Applications folder (or choose Utilities from the Finder's Go menu).
Select the disc (not just the disc session) you want to copy from the listing.
From the Images menu, choose New and the choose Image from "your disk name". (Mac OS X 10.4 and later: From the File menu, choose New and the choose Image from "your disk name").
Type a file name and choose "DVD/CD Master" from the Image Format pop-up menu.
Click the Create button. After the image has been created you should see it in the disk listing in the Disk Utility window.
    Eject the DVD-R video disc.
Select the disk image you created from the listing.
Click the Burn icon in the toolbar.
Later versions of Disk Utility will use the ".cdr" extension instead of ".dmg"
When prompted, insert a blank DVD-R disc.
    Click the Burn button.

  • Deleting Lion and re-installing Leopard/Snow Leopard

I have a 1st generation MBA which is running really slowly with Lion.  I have a bootable USB with Snow Leopard on it, but am wondering if I wipe the disk and do a clean install, can I then restore files and software from my Time Machine?  I've a feeling I read somewhere that Lion stores files differently to previous the OS and so this may not work.
My problem is I'm working overseas for a period of time and can't get to my original installation disks for Office etc.  Thinking of downgrading the OS as its running both slow and hot; genius bar before I left suggested I did this but overheating in particular is now becoming quite an issue.

    before you start doing anything.....
    try these:
    for your overheating issues.....
open activity monitor and under all processes, see what's using up most of your cpu's resources. highlight the ones using the most % CPU (anything over 10%) and hit quit process.
also check your login items and see what's loading when you first start up your Macbook...You can delete the ones you don't need.
    for your running slow issues.
open disk utility - verify your disk.......repair if needed.......verify your disk permissions - repair if needed. might take an hour or less depending how much errors are found.  once you've done that, restart your macbook....
see if doing tha above sorts out your issues.....
    good luck..

  • Is it possible to download lion and not install it? (save for later?)

I have just started the download, but after reading the reviews, and knowing that I have microsoft office 2004 which is not compatible, and it will be a while before I can buy the new microsoft packsge, I need to wait to install lion, as I need the microsoft for my school.
Does anyone know if you have to install it right away, or can you keep it for later on?
    Thank you

well, it has been 3 hours already and it is still downloading ... hopefully it doesn;t take all night !
My download was about 3.5 hrs on a 10mbps cable modem.  (Averages about 9mbps for me.)  Many people with DSL will be slower.  In my area, DSL goes down to 1.5mbps for the "basic" package and so a Lion download was several hours for some people I know.
Even if it does take "all night", the installer will pause at a "continue" button, which you can then cancel the install at that time.  So you don't have to watch the download continuously, if you're worried about that.
...I have seen a lot of bad press on these boards ...
As someone once said elsewhere: these forums are like hospital emergency rooms.  You only see sick people here.  Those that are well and not having problems tend not to post "all is fine with me" and such.  While there are some legitimate issues with some people's upgrade, we just won't hear from the millions of others whose Lion upgrade went just fine.  And some of the "bad press" is people just not liking any of the changes to the way Lion does things.  (i.e.: Resume, reversed scrolling.)  To some, any change is bad and they immediately don't like it without seeing if new feature is actually is better or not.  Which I find ironic since if one really doesn't like change, why would one upgrade in the first place?

  • How can I get Pages and iWorks installed on Leopard

I'm still on Leopard 10.5.8 on an oldish Mac and have lots of documents in AppleWorks.
I will be buying a new Mac soon and want to make sure that I have "converted" all my important AppleWorks files to Pages and Numbers before I move.
So I want to install Pages on my Mac with Leopard but when I go to the AppleStore site, there is only the iWorks 9 version via the AppStore which isn't supported on my OS.
I had installed a demo of iWorks 08 and could simply activate this with a serial number but I cant seem to purchase this from within the app as it just directs me to the App Store.
So, is there a way to activate my iWorks 08 demo version or to buy a new copy of iWorks that will run on Leopard?
    Thanks

I also have a full copy of leopard if I can get the original install disc out perhaps it is corrupt tia

Ok, so this was done by Apple by purpose?
To clarify slightly what others have said, Apple licences the grey system discs that come with a Mac for use only with that specific Mac, not for use with any other Mac, even one of exactly the same model. So using them with any other Mac violates the terms of the license & should be avoided. The installer on the grey discs enforces this in part by checking the model of the Mac when it is run & refusing to install anything if the Mac is not the correct model. It displays a warning message that the disc cannot be used with that Mac & the only available option is to quit the installer.
Beyond that, while the grey discs may in fact include & install drivers for the hardware in other, older Mac models, they cannot include ones for Macs using hardware newer than the release date of the Mac they came with. In this case, the other Mac can't even start up from the installer disc & it freezes with a kernel panic before it can run the installer. This seems to be what happened here.

  • Clean install of Lion and Time Machine

I have done a clean install of Lion and re-installed all software.
Now I would like to continue backing up this new, clean computer to the same Time Machine I was using before the clean install, preserving previous backups.
Is there any way to do this? I don't want to loose all of the data backed up...will choosing the old Time Machine disk overwrite everyting?
I don't want to try anything until I'm sure.
    Thanks,
    Margot

How are you planning to put your data back?  If you use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant, that should leave a "trail" for the next Time Machine backup to "associate" your "new" (erased) disk with the old backups.
If it doesn't, or if you use some other method to put your stuff back, you should be able to tell Time Machine to do it, per #B6 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • G4 AGP, problems with Graphic Cards and booting from Install DVD

I bought a G4 AGP (with DVD) on Ebay. It has Mac OS9.2 installed and its working correctly so far. It has an additional GraphicsCard in a PCI Slot, on which the Monitor is connected.
    1. The AGP Card doesn't give any output signal... I wondered if this would be the reason that somebody installed the additional Card...
    2. The AGP Card doens't show up in the Profiler... is this normal? According to other users this seems to be a common issue...
    3. I would like to install X 10.4, but when booting from CD, the process stops after a few seconds... and there is no signal on none of the video cards. I tried to remove one or the other card but no luck...
the firmware is uptodate and the Install DVD is correct aswell, I just bought it from AppleStore...
I don't have any original CDs available, so I cant run a hardware test.
    Anybody?

The AGP Card doesn't give any output signal... I wondered if this would be the reason that somebody installed the additional Card...
Probably. I'd take out the bad original card and replace it with the additional card. Then, check and see if that's what caused the problem. Then only other choice is to take it to the Apple store and have them check it out.
I don't have any original CDs available, so I cant run a hardware test.
You can either contact the seller and complain about the missing disks or buy replacement disks for your machine. Give 1-800-MY-APPLE a call. The AHT disk should cost about $20. I don't know what the others would run.

  • How do I create a start-up disk image without restarting from the Install DVD?

(I know this is not MacBook Pro question per se, but I can't find a software discussion this applies to.)
    Situation:
My MBP is running, but it's acting up and Onyx tells me that the start-up volume needs repair and directs me to use Disk Utility.
But to repair a volume using Disk Utility, you must restart from the original Install DVD (or some other start-up volume).
But although the MBP will read my old Leopard Install DVD and the Install DVD that came with my MBP, it refuses to restart from either of them. (Trying to do so gets as far as the Apple logo on a gray screen and then hangs there; all disk activity ceases.)
    Question:
How can I (is it even possible to) create a start-up volume on my external FW drive without starting my MBP from a DVD?
In other words, is there a way to either:
    a) create a disk image from the Install DVD on my external FW drive and then designate that disk image as my start-up drive?
    OR
    b) create a disk image on my MBP's internal drive that I can then use to run a System Install on my external drive?
(BTW, I know I can create disk images using Disk Utility, but it offers many options for type, compression, etc., that are beyond me. )
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

OS X Lion includes a new feature called Lion Recovery that includes all of the tools you need to reinstall Lion, repair your disk, and even restore from a Time Machine backup without the need for optical discs.
Restart your Mac holding down the Command-R to enter the Recovery HD.
From there you can use Disk Utilty.
