Lion and Mail

Upgraded to lion and mail won't open until it has converted 18000 e mails which  is taking hours and hours, is there any way round this ?

No. Snow Leopard's Mail isn't compatible w/Lion's, so it needs to do the conversion to be usable. Maybe you should consider trimming the number of e-mails you've storred.

Under what circumstances does mail "not leave the mails on the server"?
If you mean that you delete them (or move them out of the inbox) on one device and then find them not in the inbox on the server when you look from another device, that's how IMAP is supposed to work. (Note that the deletion or moving might be the result of rules you have set up in Mail.)
If you mean something else, please explain your issue in more detail.

  • Safari 5.1.2 won't open in lion and mail opens but can't get email

I turned on my computer the otherday and I couldn't get safari to open. When I click on it it just bounces in the dock for hours. I tryed to do a software update, which included updating safari, but my computer got stuck in the installing screen and after a full night I eventually had to hold the power button. Also my mail is opening but can't recieve emails and the only way to close it is by force quitting it. I ran Onyx and was able to get safari and mail working and was also able to install the update, but about an hour later it started doing the same thing. Any help?

Since this is a forum for the MacBook Pro hardware, you should go to the Safari and Lion forums.  Do a search and/or ask a question.  Hope this helps.

  • I updated to Mountain Lion and Mail has lost all my RSS feeds. Where are they?

I updated to Mountain Lion and now Mail has lost all my RSS feeds. What happened and where are they?

-------- "Your RSS data is not lost. You can find it in ~/Library/Mail/V2/RSS folder."
it's just as good as lost, if there is no way to load the info in that folder into a new reader.
i followed that path, ~/Library/Mail/V2/RSS, and I have almost 40 rss feeds. that means
there are nearly 40 folders that I would have to go into, one by one, and extract the pertinent
information, and import, one by one, into a new reader.
this is a problem that Apple created. I would have never used the mail.app as a reader
if I knew Apple was going to do this to us. And it makes you wonder what else Apple is
going to do to screw us loyal customers over. (why would they discontinue a feature, knowing
that it would mean lost data and a headache to their customers?)
does anyone have an automated solution to importing these files into a new reader?

  • Lion and Mail menu bars

Does anyone else think the Mac team got in a hurry on Lion?  Why are they using the old trash can and info button in the menu bars. In fact, all the icons in the finder and mail menu bars look old fashioned. I'll bet Steve didn't see them!

No. Snow Leopard's Mail isn't compatible w/Lion's, so it needs to do the conversion to be usable. Maybe you should consider trimming the number of e-mails you've storred.

  • Time Machine, Mountain Lion and Mail

I am trying to find and reinstall a mail message that has "disappeared " from my In box and does not appear if I search within Mail.  With Mail open I tried to enter Time Machine but it will not open and Mail becomes unresponsive requiring a Forced Quit.  I am running under Mountain Lion
Time Machine opens satisfactorily if the desktop is selected.
    Any suggestions please.  Thanks

  • I have just updated my mcbook to OS X Mountain Lion and Mail hasn't worked properly ever since, it keeps asking me for my password. What should I do with this, anyone could fix this?

I have just updated my mcbook pro to OS X Mountain Lion. Then Mail hasn't worked properly. Before I updated it, I could use Mail and it worked properly. I have been trying to fix it by stting my e-mail account but it didn't work

Sorry, if I sound silly on this next question, or string of questions, but:
    What does EFI stand for?
Is it an acronym for something?
I thought that my MacPro is 64bit? Well that is as far as I remember the salesman telling me, back when I did the B.T.O spec.
I am running 64bit apps [in full 64bit mode] as far as I understand. Like the CS suiite.
    If I look at "About Photoshop…" it says — Version 12.1 x64
Doesn't that mean that it is running 64bit apps?
Or are you saysing that the "entire operating system" / "bios" or whatever it is called in Mac language, is not actually capable of running as 64bit?
I need to find my box, that came with the MacPro, ans just have a look at the info that is detailed on it. As as far as I can remember there was even a big "64bit" flashy thing, somewhere on the outside of the box.
But in the meantime, if you can perhaps help with the earlier questions.
    And perhaps one more …
Where woudl I find the info / persons that I could investigate that "Hack", as I may need to investigate that a little. If anything just to be better informed, for the future. At the end of the day, if I have to scrub the entire Mac to the beginging, and reload everything, so be it, at least it will be a learning curve in the process.
I have all the legal software installers etc, so all that it will cost me is time, if it does "kill" the operating system …

  • Can't connect to one POP3 account after installing Moutain Lion and Mail 6

I use Mail 6 as my client to connect to several POP accounts. Just one of them won't work. I can make it work in Thunderbird. The account name has an explanation mark in a circle icon next to it. When I click on that I get: "The server returned the error: The server “pop.mycompanyserver.com” cannot be contacted on port 995." I've tested all of the settings and contacted Enterprise IT. I think it may be something about autodiscovery. Is there something I can manually change on my end? Thanks.

Nope. Didn't work. My company IT told me to get lost, but I'm pretty sure it's a problem at their end.
Nevertheeless, maybe this will help in getting to the bottom of this: when I delete the account and then go into Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Add Account, I type in my e-mail and password and it searches for a server that matches. It finds something called autodiscover.companyname.net, which it calls an"Exchange server," but it fails to login, saying the email address or the password entered may not be correct

  • In mail in lion and also in snow leopard you were able to click on an incoming email address and select it in spotlight , this feature in mountain lion is now gone , where did it go it was really useful?

I used to use this feature multiples times a day as it was a great way to look up all correspondance that a person had sent through.
This option is gone now with mountain lion and I am wondering why as it was great! you just had to click on an email address and you could select looking it up within mail.

    Hi There Linc Davis,
    Wow, you are the best.
Yip this is what the website looks like. Great job Linc Davis.
Not surprised that the "Shop" tab is missing. Darn.
Well can you try to access it's "sister" website: astralmusic.com and astralmusicshop.com?
Since you are awesome with the "Flash" can you investigate if this website has a issue withis this "Flash" too?
    Please Linc Davis

  • Updated my mac to mountain lion 10.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install? Can anyone help me?

updated my mac to mountain lion 10.7.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install saying that I need to see developer. Whenever I try to open my appstore, mail or facetime it says that the programmes need to be installed and might not be compatible with this version of mac operating system. Can anyone help me?

It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.
Here's a thread that helped me with iPhoto:

  • Lost mail in lion and air book

My 4 month old Mac Air started to freeze intermittently.  Having been told at Tech Support "oh they do that", I went to the Genius Bar, passed all the hardware tests, and agreed to a wipe and restore of lion, secure in the knowledge I had backed everything up before going.
It transpires however, that no mail on this Mac Air has been backed up.  I can only restore from the backups I have from my previous Macbook.
Which means that all the mail on this new computer has been lost, which is a pain to say the least, but how do I make sure I am backing up my mail from now on?
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

    Thanks, we're getting closer.
I am only at this stage setting up accounts, rules, prefs etc in Mail (being a Eudora user hitherto) so couldn't use the setup assistant option when installing Lion
I am currently sometimes in Lion, sometimes in SL, so simply transfering the Mail folder later does not help now. Looking at the two Mail folders they seem to be structured differently. In SL everything is at same level. Under Lion, the Mail folder has a subfolder V2 containing most the settings and a separate folder for Lost and Found items.
I have just tried making alias to V2, naming it as Mail and putting in the SL Library, and that seems to work. But that doesn't give access to the Mail Lost+Found folder. I suppose I can live without that if all it contains are old settings.

  • Mountain Lion: on the Notification Center notification and Mail:  how to limit notifications to an email account?

Mountain Lion: on the Notification Center notification and Mail:
how to limit notifications to an email account?
At least, is it possible to choose what email account, the arrival of a message launch a notification.
When running more than a dozen e-mail accounts, it may be appropriate to display only the notifications of one or two major accounts.

Which os are you using?  Which Mail version are you using?

  • I upgraded to Mt. Lion and now I have duplicates in notes and contacts on my iPhone 3gs. Is this a sync issue? I have 4 e-mail accounts and the iCloud is one of them.

Maybe my title says to much. I have multple contacts, notes, sometimes just two, sometimes 14. I upgraded to Mt. Lion and that may be an issue or maybe syncing is the issue. It is making me crazy/er! I have 4 e-mail contact lists and that may be part of the issue with e-mail but why duplicate notes? I am stumped. Please give your thoughts for a solution. I have deleted the duplicates from iPhone (3gs, iMac, and iPad2).
    Thanks,
    Jim

I forgot to say that the duplicate entries return after I have deleted them. Strange to me is why do some contacts show up as many as 14 times. I am suspecting that there could be an issue with iCloud or iTunes. Truly a mystery to me for now.

  • On iMac Lion where are the fractions in Pages and Mail?  They used to be under "characters" in the "Edit" drop down menu, but they aren't there anymore.

Since downloading Lion, I am unable to find fractions in the edit>special characters submenu anymore (for Pages and Mail).  Anybody know where they went to?

You could use the Auto Correction in the Pages preferences. There are several pre defined fractions. You have just to check them so you can use them in Pages. I can't help you with Lion as I don't have it.

  • Mail app and Snow Leopard, Mountain Lion and Mavericks

I have, and use, 3 different Macs, an older MacMini running Snow Leopard, an older MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion and a new MacBook Pro running Mavericks.  My personal email account, setup using the Mail.app, works fine on Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion.  On the MBP running Mavericks, I setup the Mail.app using the same settings as on Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion.  It doesn't work.  Nothing but timeouts.
I've read a lot about the problems with Mavericks and IMAP and updated Mavericks apps, including Mail.  Still no go.  I'm not so much asking for help as registering that the IMAP problems aren't fixed.
But if anyone has some ideas, I'm listening.
    Thanks all!
    Brenda

I'd check to see if the latest version of the plug-ins are Snow Leopard compatible or not, unless you have a really large number of plug-ins to deal with, where you could just see what's broke and what's not, post upgrade. But beware of retaining the old ones. For example, 10.6 Mail broke the GPG-Mail plug-in that works under 10.5.x. Search the Snow Leopard Mail forum using the search phrase "GPG Mail" OR GPGMail OR "GPG-Mail" or other mail plug-in names of interest to you.
