Lion and Parallel 7

I am running Parallel 7 and my quick books on SL. I am buying a new computer with Lion. After installing Parallel 7 can I just replace all the files and quick books  to Lion? What files do I need to transfer?
Thganks.

I have a clone drive (using Super Duper). Is this new feauture in Lion? I never heard the migration possibilties. So it will insert serials, activation #,? Some of the plugins in FCP require online registration. For example anytime I start my FCP it checks with the developer the serials.
I was to clone my new computer with Lion and make it SL, only because of time consuming. I hated to go backwards, in spite of some photoshop plugins are not Lion compatible.
You just saved me a ton's of time. Thanks a million!

I`ve just installed OS X Mountain Lion and, out of the blue, it turns out that it is incompatible with Parallels? What options do I have? This just makes no sense!

If only I had just those. I'm using Parallels 8 with a fresh reinstall of OSX 10.8.2.  Witness:

  • Lion and Parallels - kernel panics

I am currently on Lion 10.7.2 and Parallels 7 (latest build).  Within Parallels I am running Windows 7 SP1 64 bit.  This is a brand new MacBook Pro 2011 with i7 processor and I upgraded to 8gigs of RAM.  This was a fresh build of Windows 7.  Computer shipped with Lion (not an upgrade).
I am having the following symptoms:
Windows random reboot (sometimes bluescreen - no details in error log)
Mac random reboot - will be working and suddenly everything freezes and I am at the LogIn screen.
Kernel panics (panics are not consistently related to one process - sometimes it is parallels, sometimes it is a mac process)
    Following consistencies:
Parallels is open and booted to Windows 7
I am using some sort of graphics based app (could be a video conferencing app or a video game) - does not matter if I am using it on the Windows side or the Mac side
NOTE: I can consistently produce a kernel panic by starting to transcode a video with Handbrake and then playing video game on Windows side.  However, this is not the only time it panics.  Panics come intermittently in different situations but always when I am using some kind of graphics.
    Troubleshooting done so far:
I have totally uninstalled and reinstalled Parallels.
I have disabled automatic graphics switching.
I have run memtest to check RAM - seemed fine (passed all tests).
I have tried to run Hardware Diagnostic but cannot get it to run. Will not run with option D.  Copied .diagnostics from disk.  Option D would try to run it but would shut down computer.
I have changed graphics settings on Parallels.
I have spent two weeks going back and forth with Parallels support.  They think it is Mac based but I cannot ever force a kernel panic and have never seen a panic when Parallels is not running.
Apple has suggested taking it to store for hardware test (I am 70 miles away so this is not that easy).
Looking for any suggestions at this point..I have seen several others having kernel panic issues with Lion.  Has anyone found a solution?

ACTUALLY, I read the Parallels manual TWICE, looking for the missing step. It wasn't anywhere in the documentation provided with the software CD. You have to go digging through the online help functions to find it.
As for 'works perfectly', it's doing OK with everything but OpenGL functions so far. They are still working on getting those fixed.

  • Mountain Lion and Parallels 7

I am not sure people here can help but it is worth a try.
I upgraded my wife's 13" MBP (mid 2011) to Mountain Lion this morning.  Everything went well except Parallels 7 will not launch.  It is listed on Parallels' site and on Roaringaps as compatible with Mountain Lion.  The dock icon and the icon in the applications folder have a universal stop sign (circle with a slash through it) positioned on them.  I get one of two error messages when trying to Launch it.  Either it says the program is not supported on this Mac or not supported by this OS.  We had Parallels 7 working nicely in Lion.   I did not get a message about incompatble software at the end of the upgrade and I do not have an incompatible software folder at the root level of her home folder.
I've tried the following without success.
         Logged in as another user
         Restarted in Safe Mode
         Reset PRAM
Pulled all the Parallels plists from the ~/Library/Preferences folder then logged out and back in again
Searched the Console app for strings containing the word Parallels and there are no results.
I can dowload Parallels 7 again but am not sure what would happen to our Windows 7 files if I repalced it.
Has anyone else experienced this problem with Parallels 7?   I submitted the issue to the Parallels forum but so far there are no asnwers.   This is the fourth Mac I upgraded to Mountain Lion in the past few days and the only one with Parallels 7 on it.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Jay

    I have build 7.0.15052 Rev 710728.
Without being able to launch the app I am not sure how to update it.  Can I get the latest version from their web sit and just install it replacing what I have?

  • Mountain Lion and Parallels Desktop 7

When I updated My Late 2011 Macbook Air to Mountain Lion, I could not open Parallels Desktop 7 any more.
It would say that it cannot be used with this version of OS X.
Does it mean I have to buy a better version of Parallels?
    What should I do?
I dont want to buy it again

    roro again,
Reinstalling parallels is a different issue to reinstalling windows on parallels.
Keep you existing virtual machines and when parallels is re-installed use the create virtual machine menu to add an existing machine, when it asks you if this is a copy or you have moved it, reply 'moved' so that windows activation is satisfied that it is the same machine.
If reloading Parallels tools doesn't work for you, or if you can't get Parallels to start at all, I suggest uninstall then reinstall as it will create a clean copy of parallels. You may have to re-register/activate again with parallels but this is free and a relatively small effort.

  • Installed lion and parallels will not open

i installed lion 2 days ago and i cannot open Parallels and my G Drive backup with Time Machine is not working.  I need Paralles to work first though.  Any ideas?

If you can't start Parallels after Lion upgrade do this:
Open Terminal and past this 5 command lines one after another. After pasting first line, sudo command will ask you for your user password, so you have to enter it and press Enter (only after first command):
    sudo kextutil "/Library/Parallels/Parallels Service.app/Contents/Kexts/10.6/prl_hypervisor.kext"
    sudo kextutil "/Library/Parallels/Parallels Service.app/Contents/Kexts/10.6/prl_hid_hook.kext"

  • Lion and parallels

Upgraded to lion but was running parallels 3. Want to go to parallels 7.  What do i need to do now since lion doesnt recognize parallels v3?

Lion works with Parallels 6 & 7, but since you have 3, you should update to 7.

  • Mountail Lion and Parallels desktop

    Can anyone help please?
I recently installed OS X Mountain Lion on my iMac. After the installation the Parellels 6 does not open any more. Do I have to upgrade to Parallels 7 ?
If so, rather than having to buy Parallels every time I upgrade is it not better to start using the free Open office software?
    Hennie

    Yes you need PD 7.
Paralles 7  Their annual updates seem spendy, right now however if you Purchase PD 7  then it is a free upgrade to PD 8 when it is released in Sept.  http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/

since installing mountain lion my Paralles has now stopped how do I get paralles running again

Parallels 7 is supported in Mountain Lion, so you must upgrade to this version

  • Mountain Lion and Parallel desktop 8

I have parallel desktop 8 installed windows xp in it. Lt me know if it can attract any virus or malware which in turn affect the mac performance as well.

No. Windows malware will not affect OS X, but it will impact on your Windows system. It would be wise to protect your Windows system.

  • Trying to setup parallels on lion and get the floating toolbars as i can on previous os

on my imac (osx 10.6) i installed parallels 5 and loved it especially the way it made windows with floating menus and not a solid windows terminal.
I have just brought a new air with osx lion and parallels 6 and cannot get the same working environment and dont now where to get help is this a lion issue or a parallels issue.
Anyone else got similar problems if so have you resolved them and how

  • Can't install Lion (Windows XP and Parallells 6 being used)

    Hi,
This is my first post here, so please forgive me if I'm not too used to the forum habits. I've been checking the discussions before, but haven't been able to find anything that matched my case...
Let me explain it to you, so that hopefully somebody knows the solution and can share it with me...
I had Mac OS X (10.6) installed in my MacBookPro.
I had also installed Windows XP with Bootcamp in a different partition.
I had also installed Paralllels Desktop 6.
    Everything worked fine.
Yesterday I decided to upgrade to Lion, and bought it in the Apple Store.
Before going ahead with the process, and as indicated by Apple, I upgraded the current Mac OS to the latest version.
I tried to install it, and after rebooting, when it was about 30 minutes to finish the installation, I got amessage saying that "MAc OS X can't be installed in the  Macintosh HD hard drive, because a recovery disk can not be created" (translated from the Spanish message)
Then, I though that maybe it was some issue with Parallels Desktop. I checked their Fourms, and indeed it seemed that it could be the reason. I upgraded to the last available version.
I tried again, and got the same message.
Then I thought that maybe I had to upgrade to the last version also with Parallels in the Windows machine. I did so, and I tried again... and again it didn't work.
I don't know what else I can do... besides deleting the Windows partition, installing Lion, and creating a new partition, in which I should install Windows 7 (as Windows XP, as it is explained, is not supported in a new partition)
I followed all the natural steps to create the partition for Windows, install Parallels, etc. I mean that I didn't do anything manually then...
The only "weird" thing that I had to do when installing Windows XP was this one:
The Windows XP that I had was Service Pack 1, and Service Pack 2 was included in another CD... Of course that's not a problem when installing Windows in a PC, but gave me a lot of troubles to install it in the Mac. I found this solution in a Forum in Internet, follow the steps, and it worked:
    (http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/running-windows-anything-else-your-mac/38166-wi ndows-xp-service-pack-2-installation-problem.html)
    1. Click Start - Run - Type “regedit” and press enter 2. Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Setup] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    \Software
    \Microsoft
    \Windows
    \CurrentVersion
\Setup 3. In the right pane, Right-click and select New - String value 4. Name it as “BootDir” and set its value to “C”
Can this be the reason why I'm not able to install Lion now?
Anyway, and whether it is, any solution (simple, if possible, please! ;-> ) to install it?
(Buying Windows 7, deleting the partition, etc. seems very nightmarish to me)
    Thanks a lot in advance!

Make sure you have the latest version of parrallels. Think older versions are not compatible.

  • I have mountain lion OSX and parallels with Windows.  Every time I click on a hyperlink in other applications it opens - some 7 Zip file explorer inside Parallels but doesn't go to Safari.  Does anyone know solution?

I suggest that you run software update, after which you should have Safari 6.0.5 - then check Safari - Preferences - Privacy & see that 'Block cookies' is not set to Always.
Failing that - switch Safari extensions Off via Safari - Preferences - Extensions & test again
