Lion and Word 2008

I downloaded Lion and now when I open my Word 2008 documents, some of the formatting is all jumbled. Is there any way to fix this??

This is a part of the Resume feature in Lion. It can be completely turned off, like JoeyR posted. This will affect all your applications though, not just Word. Check out this guide if you feel like it:

Even if you could upgrade, Lion does not support Power PC apps / Rosetta.

New Macs come with Lion pre installed. If you can purchase one at some point that way you'd still be able to use the apps you mentioned on the PBook and have another Mac running Lion.

  • Does Mountain Lion support Word 2008?

Does Mountain Lion support MicroSoft Word 2008?

I had completely uninstalled Office '08 on my old computer running Snow Leopard and had already made the switch to Office '11 when I got my new MBP with Lion. Since I used Setup Assistant, everything migrated well and I've had no trouble with ML and '11.
However, if you visit the MS Office for Mac user forums you will note that many users of '08 - and Word '08 in particular - are/were having problems with Lion and, now, with ML. I would suggest that your wife just customize '11 to her liking - shortcuts can always be modified (well, most of the time).
There are instructions on how to completely uninstall '08 here.

  • Bluetooth keyboard and Word 2008 for Mac after Yosemite

Bluetooth keyboard (apple) on 27 " iMac (mid 2010) won't work in Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac after Yosemite. It is paired and recognized and works normally otherwise.  Mouse works fine, too.

Follow up: After trying a number of different approaches I finally shut off the iMac and let it stay off for several minutes and then restarted it. This is something I had read that another user had tried and had worked for him. To my surprise, the keyboard now works in Word 2008. I have no idea if this will continue to work, or if it might work for any of you, but I would give it a try.
    Process:
    Shut Down your Mac
Let it stay off for several minutes
Power up and check to see if your bluetooth keyboard works in Word 2008.
    Good luck!

  • OS X Lion and late 2008 MBA 2GB ?

How will OS X Lion fair on my MacBook Air (Late 2008 - Mid 2009) ?
It is a 1.6Ghz model with 2GB DDR3 (1066Mhz) ram and a 120GB Sata hd. Currently runs OS X Leopard.
I use it mainly for browsing the web, emails and watching videos on Youtube. I must admit that with prolonged use especially watching videos it tends to get hot at the buttom underneath the ESC key. I live in Malta with average summer day time temperatures of 30-35 degrees centigrade.

Not very well because that model has the minimum memory requirements for Lion. Not having additional memory will result in rather slow performance. However, you do have sufficient RAM to upgrade to Snow Leopard if you wish. But if you are happy with it as is, then don't do anything.

  • OS X Lion and Word Documents

I am thinking about upgrading to Lion. I now have both Microsoft Office 2004 and i-Works "11. I know that Word 2004 doesn't work in Lion. I have a lot of Word (Doc) documents. If I upgrade to Lion can Pages still open those Word 2004 documents and will Pages still allow me to save a Pages document as a Word formated document as it does now or do I have to upgrade Office to 2011 edition to still do this?

Pages will be able to open your Word documents but depending on the documents, you may or may not be happy with the results. Pages is Word compatible but it is not a Word clone. I've found that my Word files with tables and floating graphics are the ones most likely to import looking very different from the original. Since you have Pages now, open some of your Word documents and look at the results.
BTW, there's a free Office clone called LibreOffice that does a pretty darn good job of opening Office documents and saving documents that Word users can open.

  • I have to use an application for work that isn't supported in Mt. Lion and my 2008 Macbook doesn't have enough ram for Lion. Should I update ram or get a new computer?

So, it would be a stretch to buy a new computer, but I could if I needed to. The fan on this computer gets a little loud and the computer will sometimes get hot, but it works fine. I don't want to invest in a computer that doesn't have long to live, but I also don't want to buy a new computer when I have a perfectly good one... Suggestions?
    The application is Sookasa.

A loud fan could indicate a hardware issue which could only get worse when tampering with the RAM.
    Backup your data.
What is the application, and version of application?  Perhaps we can find something that works with your operating system?   Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac to tell us your existing operating system.

Are you using the Office for Mac 2011 version, as you need to do?  The Office for Mac 2004 is Not at all compatible with Mountain Lion, and the 2008 version has been noted to have some problems running with ML.
    Hope this helps

  • Word 2008, crashing, oh my!

So, sure I have a 1000+ page plus document. But I have put it in draft mode so it doesn't repaginate. That saves time. But, if I apply a Style and then press return on the keyboard, Word crashes.
Has anyone seen problems with Styles and Word 2008?
    Thanks.

    Thanks again.
This is what you suggest: http://www.geeksrus.com/2008/01/16/office-2008-font-issues/
I have seen some articles online that said:
    1. Uninstall Office and reinstall it without the fonts (custom installation) - http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=418269
    2. Move the Library/Fonts/Microsoft to the trash - http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/mac-and-iphone/microsoft-office-2008-messed -up-all-my-fonts-22275.html
Do you recommend either of these?
    Thanks.

I need help. I recently upgraded my Macbook from Snow Leopard to Lion and my MS Word 2008 has been a mess ever since. Each time I open a Word document file, every word document file that I have used in the previous week opens simultaneously. Is this a bug that MS or Apple is working to fix, or is there something I can do on my end?

    So far so good.
However, I want to know if I upgrade can I still use my Microsoft Word (2008). 12.3.6 without any glitches. I hate glitches !!!
I am not tech savy so I would so much appreciate simple answers to these complex problems.

  • Microsoft Word 2008 does not work after lion installation

After I installed Lion in my MacBook Pro, Microsoft word 2008 failed to work properly. Each time I try to quit word an error message appears and word closes and reloads automatically. The only way I can now really quite word is by the 'Force quit' option (in the apple menu). Word was working properly with Snow Leopard, so no idea what happened there... Any hint? Thanks

Ok, did exactly what you said... To 'make word crash' I only had to open it and then try to 'quit' it, in crashes 100% of the time...

  • Word 2008/Mountain Lion/early 08 MB Pro

I have my own question about Word 2008 and Mountain Lion.  I have just upgraded (October 12) to Mountain Lionn for my early 2008 MB Pro. In order to prepare the Pro to run Mountain Lion, I increased RAM from 2 to 4 gig at the Apple Store.
    1.  Word 2008 quits about once every six hours in the middle of my editing work. Do you have any suggestions on troubleshooting the problem? I will double-check that I have the latest Word version.
    2. My screen goes black for a second maybe once an hour, but with no apparent ill effects (that is, I'm getting used to this). Does this clue suggest any additional avenues for troubleshooting detectives?
    Thanks for listening!

Took the covers off the MacPro and gave the insides a good clean out to remove dust and now all quiet :-), I wonder if ML has increased sensitivity to temp. Certainly the increase in fan speed was coincident with upgrading to ML.
I can say that my 2008 MacPro is now running fine with ML and I just did an inplace upgrade.
    Cheers,

  • Will "Word"  2008 work with LION?

"Open XML for Word" shows up as PPC,what does that mean for my version of Word, Version 12.3.0????   Thanks, Bill

Word 2008 is a universal application, meaning it will run on both PowerPC and Intel systems. OpenXML for Word is intended for Office 2004, Word 2008 being able to natively open the newer Word document format, so OpenXML being PowerPC-only will not be a factor.
How compatible Word 2008 will be with Lion, though, is unknown at this time. We'll have to wait for either official details from Microsoft or for Lion to be released so that people can test and report on compatibility.
    Regards.

It looks like you have Office 2004, which doesn't run on Mountain Lion. Upgrade to Office 2008 or 2011.
