Lion: Anyone having volume control on iMac?

I'm noticing that the volume controls don't work after a while. I repair permissions, restart and it's fine, but after a while when I press the volume buttons, no sound or activation happens. Anyone else having this issue after Lion install?

Thanks for this observation about plugging in head phones; it did work. Although, I have only one attempt to count in these stats. But very worthwhile to note.
I did write on this in another thread where I also speculated about FileVault.
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3328016
But maybe there is also interference with Parallels Desktop and how it handles anything on that when a virtual machine is running?
Anyway, before reading this thread, I could only try rebooting, and the disabling would only randomly disappear.
So, thanks again for noting the trick about the head phones

Is anyone having volume issues with the new Iphone 4S?

Yes, the volume on my iPhone 4s will max out without me touching any button or setting.  When opening mail, for instance, the ringer icon will appear and the volume level goes to max volume - and I'm not touching the volume buttons.  It seems to happen randomly, at least I can't identify a pattern, but thankfully it doesn't happen all the time, but at least once a day.
    Anyone else seen this?

  • Issues with Lion, anyone having the same ones?

I'm having several of issues with Lion (mostly with Safari).   Wondering if anyone else has these problems.  I'm hoping/assuming these will be bugs that Apple will fix with a software update?   Or if therres any fix for them?
    1.   Zoom while in Safari,  the 2 finger pinch and zoom feature stops working after a while usually.  I used to like the zoom in snow leopard where on a webpage it would zoom you in while keeping the page contents within the screen.  You can still accomplish this by doing the command + shortcut.  But I really liked the touchpad feature.  I don't mind the way the zoom works on safari (zooming in wihtout keeping the page in the screen).   But my problem is it stops working after a certain amount of time.
    2.  Safari freezing up.   Yes, my safari is freezing and I'm needing to force quit every now and then.   Never really had that problem with snow leopard.
    3.  Swiping to go to my desktop.   When I try to 4 finger swipe to get to my desktop or something (going to the left always),  My launchpad keeps coming up.  Thats HORRIBLY annoying.   I have to go to my icons and manually turn launchpad off.    This might be my most annoying problem.
    4.  Getting mission control up with the four fingers swiping up usually takes 2 or 3 swipes,   and also when I'm in mission control and I want to go to something on my desktop (if I have 2 or 3 things open while having mail and safari on full screen), it takes 2 or 3 clicks to select whatever I want to go to.
Overall I really DO like lion.  Just don't like those glitches Ive seen so far.   Anyone having the same problems?

Yes! I see the same! Extremely annoying. And as long as the pinch-zoom works, it's very unstable, and sometimes seems to freeze Safari with a "fuzzy" picture. It doesn't really freeze it, though, I can still use otheropen tabs, and usually a double-tap zoom "wakes" the "frozen tab".

  • Is anyone experiencing volume control problems after update to OS 4

When I adjust the volume via the side buttons, it doesn't change the volume. The volume buttons shows up as I'm adjusting it, but there isn't any real change.
I go into settings-->sound, and the volume is still in the same position (as if I didn't adjust anything), and if I wanted to hear any real changes, it'd have to be done in here.

I haven't experienced those problems... My only problem has been with the volume controls. I tried playing music, and wasn't able to control the volume with the side buttons as well. I have to adjust it on the screen, which has become quite a nuisance for me. So basically my side volume buttons are useless as of the update to the new OS.

  • Is anyone having issues with 27inch iMac late 2012 locking up when processing photos?

Purchased new IMac 27 in July 2013 and 15  Macbook Air in November.  I upgraded all my software at the time of the Air purchase.  This is my 3rd  Mac book and second IMac.  Have all the same software on each.  The IMac keeps locking up especially when I am processing in Aperture.  It is worse when trying to move between Aperture and Elements or Big Aperture.  I have not had an issue with Air even when useing same file on same soruce.
I took the IMac to shop for color bleed in moniter and then kept it a week, tested it, replaced the monitor, but said system is fine.
Any one else having an issue.  is it my PC or an issue with the software/Maverick.

Got a late 2013 iMac 27". No problem at all. Try going to Disk Utility (in applications>utilities) and repair permissions. And then borrow a copy of Disk Warrior and clean optimize your hard drive.
Within Aperture yourself, do you know how to restore/repair your library? Hold down the apple & option keys and simultaneously start Aperture. You will be prompted on screen. That usually fixes hangups. I do it monthly.

  • Is anyone having issues with 27" imac screen calibrating?

I may have to post this on the imac forum, but figured i'd ask the photographers here using aperture. I've heard that calibrating the monitor on a new 27" imac is not very easy, or can't be done because of the lack of adjustments on the screen itself, and also that the imac screen can't produce neutral whites? Has anyone had any experience with this, or info they can share about this? Thanks!

I'm using a Spyder3Pro with the new iMac and haven't run into problems. I did bring down the brightness three notches before calibrating - that LED is very bright.
I know there were problems with the previous generation's glossy screens (too bright) but I've gone from the old matte version to this one and I'm loving it.

  • 5s Volume control issues

Anyone having volume control issues?  My wife's 5s (less than a month old) is having issues with the up volume.  If she mutes it using the down volume, it won't go back up.  I can get it to work if I hold the volume a long time and it eventually comes back.  Or last time i had to remove her case, hold the volume and release several times before it finally kicked in.  Any thoughts or ideas?  Thanks.

    Hi,
Please test in other computer to see if the issue persists, it may be caused by the bad output channel.
But for better solution, I recommend you go to MSDN forum for further help.

  • Remapping PC Keyboard keys for volume control

I got an XArmor keyboard because I love mechanical keyswitches. Works great with my Mac.
However, I do miss having volume control.
How can I remap keys like say Option->Apple->+ to be the increase volume key?
The +, -, and enter keys on the numeric keypad would be great for volume control.
The only software I found so far for doing this was very clumsy and unreliable: Sparks.

Use the side edge volume controls.
There's no keyboard controls that I know of, other than the # key might place your device on the Silent profile (or the top edge MUTE key )

  • I just upgraded to the new iTunes 12.0.1, and I can't sync it to my Airport Express. I noticed the Airply icon is just the volume control. Is anyone having this problem?

I recently upgraded to Yosemite and got the new iTunes as well. However, the new iTunes 12.0.1 doesn't offer me the option to connect to my Airport Express. The Airplay icon on the interface is just the volume control. Does anyone know how to connect?

    Sure...

  • Anyone else having volume icon on ipod touch 4gen just popping up and not working properly after upgrading to ios 6.1?

Hi, has anyone experienced issues with there volume control icon randomly popping up after upgrading to ios 6.1 from 6.0 .
I have a 4th gen ipod touch which  until upgrading to 6.1 from 6.0 was working perfectly.
Minutes after the upgrade I noticed the volume icon just popping up for no reason. I can turn the volume up now, but not down and it randomly appears on screen without anyone touching it. Weird!  Can someone shed some light on this issue,I have reset and reloaded to factory several times now to no avail.
    thanks!

I am having this same issue on my iPhone 4. The most recent update to iOS 6.1 didn't fix it either. Has anyone found a fix for this problem? It doesn't happen often, maybe every third day or so but requires power off, power on to bring the sound back.

  • Volume control problem in Lion

MBP 13" mid 2010 (7.1) just installed a fresh copy of Lion. After reboot volume control does not work (audio device - which is internal speakers - has no controls), but there is sound. After inserting headphones the volume control starts working, and remains functional after removing the headphones.
Basically after each reboot I have to temporary plug headphones to get volume control working. Nothing in dmesg or system.log
I'm familiar with linux so if you tell me how to debug this I'll happily do it, not afraid at all of command line or searching through logs.
(and you'd think that having control both over hardware and software would prevent such frustrating problems)

It looks more like a race condition or uninitialized variable in the kernel sound driver. That's not good since it may not affect too many people and may not be easy to reproduce by the developers (if it makes it onto apple's bug list)
One day it happened after every restart, for at least 5 restarts.
The other day it happened only after shutdown/poweron.
So I don't think the pram reset is more then a coincidence.
Only good think is you don't need to reboot often, sleep (standby) works just fine and the battery drain is minimal.

  • Is anyone having issues running Rosetta Stone under Lion OS?

Is anyone having issues running Rosetta Stone under Lion OS?  My wife updated her iMac a month ago and now can't run Rosetta Stone.

I was lucky. My new iMac, bought about 3 to 4 weeks ago, came with SnowLeopard. I found that SL could run Power PC software. The first time that I tried to do that an on-screen message asked me whether I wanted to download Rosetta (Yes). Since then my old PPC software has run. Eg., Cinema 4D (which would have cost GBP over 1,000, Toast 7 (GBP80) and others.
Of course, for those whose machines came with Lion installed, you could buy SL and install it (as I did) on an external bootable HD (partitioned according to GUI).
Unfortunately, for those buying a future new computer (that is, say, next year), I think that SL will not run on it (according to Apple's policy of not allowing a machine to run on an outdated OS first offered before the date of manufacture of the later machine - I think I have got that right.)

  • Lion + volume control external soundcard

    Dear Apple users,
I recently bought my iMac 2,5 Ghz (didn't buy it brand new). I installed the iMac to factory settings.
On the moment I am using Lion 10.7.5. Is it necessary for me to update to Mountain Lion? What are differences that I am gonna experience with Mountain Lion?
Another question is about my external soundcard
I' m using a M-Audio Fast Track Pro (1.8.1. drivers). The card is working. But, I can't set it as my main sound card. So I cant use the volume control on my keyboard. When Im going to System Settings -> Sound; the input/output settings aren't recognized by my Mac?
    Whats the problem?

    No one?

Sadly Snow Leopard was the last OS X to have Front Row and it is no longer offered in Lion or Mountain.
see > Farewell Front Row | Macworld
If you want, you can get it back with some tweaking.
see > Get Front Row for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
or > Use Front Row In OS X Lion
Also note: that your remote should still be working for waking the Mac, volume control and iTunes...? If it is not, let us know for help with it.

I am using Photoshop CS5 on a new iMac with a wireless keyboard.  I used to be able to hit F11 to perform a custom sharpening action but now the F11 key is the volume control key and I have tried everything to disable or switch the volume key. I have also tried assigning other function keys to initiate the action. Is there a simple solution to this? What am I missing?

Try unmounting the volume on your iMac using Disk Utility. Then mount it again. You may need to reboot the laptop or relaunch its Finder process (using the Force Quit window) after remounting the drive on your iMac. Remember that no process may be accessing any files on the drive you plan to unmount, or the unmount will fail. Unmounting and remounting an external drive on my iMac made it become visible on my MacBook Pro after it had disappeared.
