Lion - Apps quit after screensaver activates
We have been rolling out Lion and came accross the partially obsucured login screen issue and applied the fix suggested here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4135?viewlocale=en_US and it worked.
However the new twist is that when the user logs in all their apps have shutdown without savaing.
For security reasons our company insists that all workstations (Mac or Windows) implement account lock down after 15 mins on inactivity. So I need to find a fix for this.
Cheers
Phil
However the new twist is that when the user logs in all their apps have shutdown without savaing.
Are you configuring automatic logout or automatic screen locking? They're different. If you set up auto logout, then you're getting the intended results.

After screensaver activates my aplications shuts down?
Hi
My new iMac computer shuts my applications down when the screensaver activates. When i return to my computer and enter my password, all my work i shut down, and i have to open all the applications again.
How do I disable this "feature" ?
Thanks, MartinKevin,
This usually happens when your headphones/earbuds aren't plugged all the way in. Double check the connection of the headphones and make sure the jack is free of debris.

Safari, email and app store app quits after launch on my iPad. Help!
These applications open and the immediately quit. Other app's work including google which access internet.
Try downloading another app - any free app will do. That seems to reset something and it may work for you. If not, try all of the steps below.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Close all apps. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. -
All Apple apps quit after system update install
Installed most recent system update on a perfectly stable, happy Mac. Since then, any apple app- (mail, safari, update, address book so far) will launch and then immediately quit. I am also getting a "subpubagent unexpectedly quit" pop-up which has never happened before on this machine. Firefox, word etc. all seem fine. Any ideas?
Restore your bootable backup/clone containing your OS before updating. Don't have one? Tsk, tsk. In that case, see http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/multipleappsquit.html

My videos from Netflix and Amazon run for a minute or two, then shut down. When I restart, I get a minute or two more, then another shutdow. I think it is a buffer
I had the same problem, but I think I narrowed my problem down to the PPPOE login using the AEBS. You don't have to do that with a cable modem, so that's probably not going to help you. Your only choice is to try the new firmware update, (7.1.1) which is supposed to fix PPPOE problems and many others. If that doesn't work, get a replacement router. Apple gave me a new one, as well as many other people in this forum. They really don't give you a hard time about it. I think they realize that people are having a bad experience with this product.

Core/standard iPhone apps quitting
I have seen a number of posts regarding AppStore apps quitting after launch, but I am have the same problem with core / standard apps such as Mail and Safari.
I have a number of AppStore apps on my iPhone 2G, but have not launched them (since last restart). Still, after using Mail or Safari for several minutes, they will just quit going back to the home page. Doesn't seem tied to a certain web page or email.
Ideas?Try resetting (not restarting) your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings. This is good to do every week or so.

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro 13" laptop with Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 Processor 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Memory 2GB 1067 MHz DDR3. After looking at the recomended steps to take prior to downloading Lion I now discovered the App Store.app application will not open. All i continue to get is "App Store.app quit unexpectedly. Click Report to open the application again". It contains a very long list of wording I am not familar with in the Problem details and system configuration. See below. I do hope in doing this I have not broken any rules with regards to the amount of wording we are permitted to use. Thank you in advance. Regards Don.

Mail "unexpectedly quits" after migration from snow leopard to new iMac running Mountain Lion
Mail "unexpectedly quits" after migration from snow leopard time machine files to new iMac running Mountain Lion. I can run connection doctor OK. But the activity window is blank. Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful. -

July 18, 2012 · by Arthur Lockman · in Apple, Tutorials
After doing a reinstall of Lion a few weeks ago, I found that my computer suddenly would reject every VeriSign certificate that it encountered. Using Chrome, that meant that I couldn’t even access Twitter.com, because it thought that the certificate was wrong. I couldn’t login to the Apple developer portal, I couldn’t authenticate a device with XCode, I couldn’t make a purchase at Apple.com, I couldn’t download updates from the Mac App Store, and I couldn’t login to Mint.com, among other sites. I essentially couldn’t do anything that used a VeriSign certificate for SSL.
What did I do? I called my trusty AppleCare advisor, hoping for an answer. I thought that maybe they could help me figure it out. After getting to senior support, I was told to reinstall Lion, which I did to no avail. My case was then forwarded to the Apple engineering team, with 3 to 5 days to wait until I had an answer. I looked around, through my console logs and through Keychain access, and finally came up with an answer, and a solution to my problems.
It turned out that my solution was pretty simple. I had to delete a few files and reset one to its default setting.
Delete the files /var/db/crls/crlcache.db and /var/db/crls/ocspcache.db. These can be found using Finder’s Go >; Go To Folder menu (Cmd + Shift + G). This resets the cache of accepted certificates in the system. It doesn’t remove them, it just forces the system to rebuild the caches upon restart.
Open Keychain Access (/Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access). Select Certificates in the Category picker on the left side. In the search bar, type in the word Class. Look through that list, and find any certificates that have a blue + symbol over their icon. These are the ones you need to modify.
Select one that has a blue +, and hit Command + I. Click the disclosure triangle beside the “Trust” list to show the list of permissions. Now, what we need to do is to set this certificate to use the system defaults. However, for some reason, when you select it, it doesn’t save. So what you need to do is this. Under “Trust”, where it says “Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)”, change the dropdown menu to say “No Value Specified”. Then, close the window. It will ask for your administrator permissions. Then, open the info pane for that certificate again. Under “Trust” again, now set the dropdown that says “When using this certificate:” to say “Use System Defaults”. You can then close out of the info pane, and enter your password again. Do this for any of the certificates that have a blue + on their icon. There should only be one or two at most.
Restart your system.
This solution seemed to work just fine for me. All of my certificate problems have been fixed. It must be something with the OSX installer that causes this certificate issue. I’ll file a bug report. Hopefully someone looks into it and fixes the flaw in the OS. And, I hope that this fixed the flaw for you.
Addendum – a note on security:
This procedure won’t affect the security of your Mac. I’ve had some questions come in about that, and if anything, it makes it more secure because then sites that require SSL certificates can actually use them, unlike before where they might default to non secure connections because the certificate was bad. -
Mail app quits when opened after installing Mavericks. I reinstalled and still the same. I noticed the mail app icon has not changed to the new icon in Mavericks. Any suggestions?
I also forgot to note that this problem also persists with the new iBooks application. I cannot get past the 'Get Started' screen or access the iBooks Store. Again, all top bar menus are unresponsive.

After installing Mountain Lion finder quits when I open desktop folder - why?
After installing Mountain Lion, finder quits when I open desktop folders. Not all folders.. I does it to new ones.

from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

aperture 3.2.4, macbookpro lion: image disappears after loading from any project; repairing everything on starting app doesn't fix it. Only restarting the computer works. Any help, please? ... in non-technical language please. Thanks
“Hi Kirby, thanks a lot for your answer.
I got one answer, from DMoore, saying:
“Try Safe boot and then restart with only Aperture open. Still doent work write back with more details like Ram, HD capacity/free space. Are these thumbnails or Previews? Have you turned off building previews in AP preferances?
Safe boot http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
Starting up into Safe Mode does several things:
1 It forces a directory check of the startup volume.
2 It loads only required kernel extensions (some of the items in /System/Library/Extensions).
3 In Mac OS X v10.3.9 or earlier, Safe Mode runs only Apple-installed startup items (such items may be installed either in /Library/StartupItems or in /System/Library/StartupItems; these are different than user-selected account login items).
4 It disables all fonts other than those in /System/Library/Fonts (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
5 It moves to the Trash all font caches normally stored in /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/(uid)/ , where (uid) is a user ID number such as 501 (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
6 It disables all startup items and login items (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
7 Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later: A Safe Boot deletes the dynamic loader shared cache at (/var/db/dyld/). A cache with issues may cause a blue screen on startup, particularly after a Software Update. Restarting normally recreates this cache.”
As I don’t know much about the technical aspects of computers, I don’t really understand the first answer, and it sounds like following it might produce unwanted changes.
But I understand your questions, so I’ll try to answer them;
"loading from any Project" means that I encounter the problem when I’m using a project, possibly after/because I’ve left the Mac on overnight, and/or I’ve made a lot of adjustments, and, once the problem is there, it happens in any other project which I open – the images load then disappear.
I can see images in the Browser, so it only happens in the Viewer(s).
I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean by: “If you select "Photos" from near the top of the Library tab of the Inspector, does it show you all of your Images?”. I am a newcomer to Aperture, so I don’t know what some of the buttons are for yet, but when I want to look at and adjust my pictures, I import them, as referenced images, then Aperture creates a folder/project in the Library. When I click on that Project (when it’s working properly), all the images appear in the Browser or the Viewers – without me needing to “select Photos from near the top of the Library tab of the Inspector”. I selected it and looked at all the items in the dropdown menu, but none of them seems to offer the option to ‘show all the images’. So I’m not sure how to answer your question except to say that – yes, I can see all the pictures in the Browser or the Viewers (when it’s working properly), but I don’t seem to need to use the Photos button to achieve this.
Did Aperture work before?
Yes it worked ok for a while, but I only purchased it on 24th May.
If I understand correctly, the difference between thumbnail and preview is that the thumbnail is what I see when the “Loading” wheel is turning, and the disappearance of this wheel after a few seconds means that I am now looking at the preview (also, the thumbnail cannot be adjusted).
So I think the problem occurs when the thumbnail has finished loading; the viewer going blank/grey might mean that it is not showing the preview.
But I have not changed the default Preview settings in Aperture Preferences.
My macbookpro details:
2.7 Ghz Intel Core i7
Memory: 8 Gb 1333 MHz DDR3
Hard Drive capacity 499.25 GB
Available 387.36 GB
I have noticed another problem: I cannot apply the same rating to multiple images: following the instructions, I select a group of contiguous (or non- contiguous) images, choose a selection eg “5stars” using the keyboard, but the stars only appear in the last selected image – even though all the images are still showing as selected.”
I hope this helps you to understand more.
Thank you for trying to help me.
