Lion boot hangs at point logon prompt should appear

Lion boot hangs at point logon prompt should appear.  Unresponsive to mouse or keyboard. Mac mini 2007.  Touching power button briefly puts machine to sleep. Hitting key or wiggling mouse then wakes machine and logon proceeds normally. Has happened every time Lion has booted. Never had problems with SL. Fix needed!
TIA,
--Beman

Same issue here, not always but after entering logon password it will hang with the spinning icon. I have to power off then reboot.
Only since Lion upgrade!

I run Watchguard mobile VPN to connect to my work network, but the only way it runs is in 32 bit mode, I am not having luck getting Lion to boot in 32 bit mode, what should I do?

You can try but quite frankly I've not seen anyone done this before
Restart your machine while pressing 3 and 2 to force it to run in 32bit mode(this was a practice in Snow Leopard)
if you ask me, my recommendation is to get Watchguard update its software to 64bit. this is the REAL solid solution for your problem. Apple does not adjust to 3rd party softwares, its the other way around.
I meant "Lion runs in 64bit mode"

I assumed this would help my problem with not being able to open apps like Preview or TextEdit since I installed Mountain Lion. Instead, first I'm prompted to enter a password, then once I do that, I get an error box telling me the Library needs repairing. So I click on Repair, and once again I'm prompted for a password, which I enter, then the same error box opens, and so it goes. Can anyone help me with this problem? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • T500 - Intermittent Boot Hang and not able to Reboot

Hey folks.  I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T500 (2242-35U) here that is having a bit of trouble.
First off, its very intermittent to get it to boot.  When I press the power button to start it, it goes through its regular post, and then right before it should start booting off of the hard drive or dvd drive, it hangs with just the blinking cursor.  Trying different boot media like a hard drive, bootable cd/dvd disk or even a bootable usb stick all result in the same.
However, once every 5-6 times, I get lucky and it starts to boot.  Once I was finally able to boot off of a bootable diagnostic cd, I ran hardware checks, and it appears that everything checks out.
Another issue with it is that it doesn't do a reboot properly.  No matter if i'm into the operating system doing a Restart option, or at the boot hang mentioned above, pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete, the screen goes blank and it stays there until I forcefully power off and power back on.  Even during my install of the operating system, when the setup reboots several times, i've had to forcefully power it off, and then try numerous times to get it to boot back up again.
I just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 x86 enterprise, and updated the bios to its latest version, doesn't appear to change anything.
The unit is currently out of warranty.  Is there anything else I can try with this?  I am an authorized service provider for Lenovo, I just don't know where to go to from here, and any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thank you.

Alright, got a chance to test it more over the weekend...
    - I went into the BIOS, and disabled everything I could find.  Even went as far as pulling the hard drive back out again and the optical drive, and tried booting from a USB stick.  Exact same issue, took a bunch of tries for it to finally boot.
    - Enabled just the essential stuff I would need on the laptop, same issue
    - I don't see any mention of Turbo Memory in the BIOS or product page for this model, so I will assume that it does not have it.
I guess the problem is something with the motherboard.  But, at over a couple hundred dollars, I don't think its really worth the money to replace it at this point seeing that the notebook is still completely usable, once it boots .
Thank you all for your help and suggestions either way.

  • Remote Desktop Gateway and WebAccess Deployment - Multiple Logon Prompts

I'm having a few issues with some multiple logon prompts using "Connect to a remote PC" via RD Web Access.
I am able to log onto the RDWeb without a problem.
Essentially once I make a connection to my end-device I first receive a logon prompt, I'm authenticated, then I'm asked again for another logon prompt. Any ideas how to resolve this?
    My layout is simple:
1 VM in the DMZ that has the Remote Desktop Gateway and Remote Desktop Web Access roles installed. No connection broker, or session host.
With my deployment I have a wildcard certificate bound to the Remote Desktop Gateway and it is bound properly in IIS. Remote Desktop functionality through the RDGateway works just fine. However, the only nuisance is that I get prompted multiple times for
credentials when accessing the end-device regardless if my connection is from a domain-joined machine or a non-domain joined machine.
I've tried using Web Single Sign On via http://anandthearchitect.com/2014/01/20/rds-2012-r2single-sign-on-using-windows-authentication-for-rdweb-page/ and it still does not work.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi Dan,
How many prompts are you seeing?  Expected behavior for Connect to a remote PC would be this:
    1. Log on to RDWeb
    2. Select Connect to a remote PC tab
    3. Enter server name in Connect to box, click Connect
    4. Unknown publisher warning, click Connect
    5. Credentials prompt, it should say These credentials will be used to connect to the following computers: 1. rdgw.domain.com (RD Gateway server) 2. remote.domain.com (remote computer)
    6. After entering credentials and clicking OK it should log you in to the remote computer.  This assumes that the destination is authenticated properly (usually via certificate) and the credentials are valid for both the RDG and the remote
computer.  Normally in a domain environment the same credentials (domain\username) would be valid for the RDG and the remote server.

  • How do I prevent the Lion boot partition from being reformatted when using boot camp?

Under Windows 7, Computer Mgt, I shrink the C drive to create another drive.  When I right click on the unused drive to format it, 200MB Lion boot is formatted and assigned a drive letter F.  But I did not tell Windows 7 Computer Management to do that.  I clicked on the unused 170GB space to create it as F, I did not click on the 200MB Lion boot partition at the front of the list.
Now I have to take the computer back to the Apple store to reinstall Lion for me.
I tried this twice and it happened twice.  So now I need to go back to the Apple store a second time for help on the same problem.
Would the 200MB Lion boot disk at the front be safe from reformatting if I first made it drive letter F, and then made the new drive letter H at the right side of the drive list in Computer Management?  Also, there is an unlettered drive between the Lion drive E and the Windows 7 drive C.  Should I make that G prior to formatting drive H?
By the way, I did this on another MacBook pro that was using Snow Leopard, following the same procedure, and had no problems.  So could a different version of Boot Camp be the issue?

I just found an older question similar to this one that you also replied to. It was from 2012 and never solved. The only things I am using in my set up is a male quarter inch cable from my guitar to my interface, a USB cable from my interface to my computer, and headphones from my interface to my ears of course. Just like in the other question I found I have everything in the Audio MIDI Setup of the computer set to use the interface as input and output and I also have everything in garage band setup to use the interface as audio input and output. Any new track is recording the metronome and any old track that is being played in the headphones. No external speakers are being used for monitoring and no microphones are being used.

  • Database Logon prompting is in invalid state

    Hi
I have written code in Visual Studio .NET 2010 and downloaded the CrystalDecisions Client components on my local. Our System is working fine with existing Classic ASP code and we are in a plan to upgrade from 2003 to 2008 Server R2. So, thought of to re-write the code from Class Asp to Asp.NET and I am successful in converting the code and was able to execute properly until last friday i.e., 30th May, 2014. But all of a sudden since June 2nd do not know what happened but all the reports are not working as expected and the Crystal viewer is opened up and a dialog opens up as enter the login credentials. Our Login information is giving a userid and password of the DSN created. So, after giving that, the report throws an error saying
"Database Logon prompting is in Invalid state".
All the reports are in Enterprise Session loaded on a different server.
I do not see neither code change in the last 4 days nor there is a change in the Enterprise Console environment. So, I do not know the root cause of the issue. I did googled it but no one had this kind of issue earlier.
    PLEASE HELP! ITS VERY URGENT.!!!!

Couple of admin things out of the way 1st:
    1) If this is an urgent issue, please consider creating a phone incident here:

SCN is a community forum and you may get an answer, or not. It may be timely, or not...
    2) Generally, bold facing, use of colors, etc., is frowned upon - in any forum (I edited your OP). For more details, please see the SCN Rules of Engagement
    Now, to your issue:
    Some good info provided, but the most critical part is missing;
Version of CR / BI / BO?
    What database?
How are you connecting to the database.
You saying that the reports are in Enterprise Session, makes me think that you may be using BI / BO, but that is just a guess... However if you do have BI / BO, yo should be able to log a support incident via the SAP Service Market Place (SMP) (?).

  • Lion Boot Problem on MBA

Running Lion with no problems since the first weekend it was released.  Running on a Gen 2 MBA.  Just restarted and its hung at the Apple screen with spinning icon.  Went into recovery mode and verified filesystem and permissions.  No luck.  Any ideas?

    Hi Joe,
         Two thoughts,
Upon boot, OSX will do some system level software updates that can take longer then normal and sometimes these don't release control back to the boot process. It is rary but I have seen it a few times over the years.
Secondly, If the system came across an issue that was disruptive, the safe boot process will do a deeper FSCK command and will repair certain certain drivers by discarding and loading only the basics in default configurations to boot in a more native state. Then after the next boot it loads fresh copies of many objects & preferences.
There is a log document that may give you the answer if you can pin-down the exact time of the boot hang, But it can be a lot of tedous work reading it.
OSX is generally self–healing in most respects.

  • Enable Database Logon Prompt problem

    Post Author: saied
    CA Forum: .NET
I have a report in which I pass the connection information to a connectionInfo object like
ConnectionInfo connectionInfo = new ConnectionInfo();connectionInfo.UserID = "user";connectionInfo.Password = "password";connectionInfo.DatabaseName = "database";connectionInfo.ServerName = "server"; In the CrystalReportViewer smart tasks, I disable Database Logon Prompting, but when I do this, the Page Unload event is fired and the ReportDocument is set to null; therefore, throwing an object not set to an instance exception. I want to be able to bypass the Crystal Database Logon Prompt, but I can't figure out how to do it.  If anyone knows what to do, please help. Thanks, SaiedH

I am using Visual Web Developer 2008 Edition and Crystal Reports 2008. This is one and only report so far. I am passing logon credentials from code. This report was working in crystal report but not working any more is either place crystal designer or .net.
I have to create subreport because i have one parent table and 2 diff child tables. one header table and 2 detail line tables. I was to see in report for each header tables multiple detail line items. If i join 3 tables then it multiplies no of line items and display wrong data. e.g. one BLheader (parent) table  has 2 detail line items (1st child table)  and 3 detailAccessories (2nd child table). I want to see 1 header, 2 detail lines, and 3 Accessories.
Please advice how should i display this in report. Thanks a lot.

  • DTR Logon Prompt Circle

Using NWDS 7.0.11 - I have an existing Web Dynpro project.  Everything is checked in.  The users have deteremined that another mod is needed.  When I try to check out the code in the Web Dynpro Perspective I am prompted with the DTR logon Prompt.  I entered my password (user id was already there).  It shows infrastructure initialzation and other items so I'm assuming the logon is successful.  But it is not... My code is still not checked out (though the Logn link in shows as connected). So I try again - attempt to modify Java code - prompt for DTR logon - enter password - messages go by - code still not checked out. I've repeated this circle many times.  It's like it is not getting my logon.
I have verified that my password is accurate by logging directly into the SLD server and had no problems.
Any ideas on what I should try next?

we faced the same issue today, a colleague of mine had the problem due to his .dtc /.dtr path
it was located in his user.home directory, alas he has a german name with an ä in it so that caused the problem.

    Hi,
In portal I need to access quality server. For a certain iView when I clicked it in Q server, another logon prompt is coming showing that it referring to Production backend.
I this case it should not asked for another login i.e. the iview must get displayed without further login.
Please help me with the solution, it's urgent.

    Hi,
There should a system object that is responsible for backend connection. So you should change the connection settings in your system object.

  • Can't see network computers that are sitting at their logon prompt

I have an Airport wireless network in my home. My two computers (one Imac, one Macbook) connect to the internet through the Airport connection.
From my Macbook, I can ping the Airport at 10.0.1.1 and get a response. I can ping the Macbook itself (10.0.1.3) and get a good response, too. But when I try to ping the Desktop Imac at 10.0.1.2, I get nothing but "host is down" messages, even though the desktop is booted up and sitting at its logon prompt. If I go to the Desktop and log on, and then come back to the Macbook and ping the desktop again, everything is fine.
Is this the way things are supposed to work -- i.e. a computer system is not available on the network unless someone's logged into it? This seems strange.

In case anyone cares, I found the solution myself.
Under Network in System Preferences, Show->Airport. Then, click "Options".
One of the options says to "Disconnect from wireless networks when I log out". This option was checked on the Desktop but not the Laptop. Don't know why.
Anyway, when I unchecked it, I was now able to connect to the Desktop, even when it was at its logon prompt.
Now, if I could just get the dumb things to wake up across the network ... but I understand this is not doable when the computers are connected wirelessly. Something about the wireless standard not supporting it.
