Lion Bootcamp partition compatible with SL?

I have Lion installed (clean install) and am unhappy with the performance to say the least. In my experience SL was more stable with my video apps.
Anyhow, I've created a bootcamp partition via Lion to install Windows 7 (what a PITA). I want to format the Lion partition and reinstall SL.
My question is:
Are there any issues with using SL with my bootcamp partition that was created with Lion's newer version of bootcamp?

Same difference as I believe a reinstall erases first then installs. To be sure though Start from the SL dvd and go to utilities and erase the Mac partition then install. As BootCamp is a separate partition it should be untoched.
You will undoubtedly have the Lion restore partition left but it is invisible to Disk utility. Here is the procedure I followed to get rid of this partition since I have the Lion USB install thumb drive and do not need it.
1) Make the Recovery visible in Disk Utility by using a program like Secrets:http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/27025/secrets or MacPilot:http://www.koingosw.com/products/macpilot.php (15 day free trial).
2) Highlite the Recovery partition and Control click it and select Mount the partition.
3) With the Recovery partition highlited, erase the partition, you'll get an error message, ignore it.
4) Now highlite the top identity of the hard drive and select the partition tab.
5) Highlite the Recovery partition and press the minus sign.
6) Click and hold on the bottom edge of the partition above and drag it to the bottom, if it doesn't go there automatically, the press apply.

Here is what was required with Lion. I cannot guarantee it will help with Mountain Lion since you may have the error stating it could not install because it failed to find a Recovery HD partition.
What to do if the installer warns that no Recovery HD can be created
Some disk partition configurations may result in the OS X Lion installer reporting that it could not create a Recovery HD. In these situations, even if you are permitted to continue the install, you should quit the install and create an external, bootable OS X Lion hard drive with a Recovery HD, first. You will be able to return to the upgrade to OS X Lion on your computer's boot drive after creating the external Recovery HD.
Important notes
Your storage device must have at least 13 GB available (after formatting) to install Lion and an Internet Restore partition.
These steps will erase and reformat the storage device. OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery will instruct you on setting up the storage device to use the GUID partition scheme and the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, which are required to install Lion and an Internet Restore partition on your external storage device. You should back up any important files that are on the device to a different drive.
This procedure will install a version of the OS X Lion that is compatible with the Mac it was created with. Using this Lion system with a different kind of Mac may produce unpredictable results.
Your computer's serial number will be sent to Apple to help authenticate your request to download and install OS X Lion.

I bought a MacBook Pro (13" retina display) today. Tried to update software. Error mesage said to ujpdate OS. When I tried to, error message said, "OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer." Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

All owners of the model seem to have the same problem. Presently there is no 10.8.2 updater for your model. The previous updater has been pulled. Wait a while and one will show up when Apple gets it fixed.

If the OP has this much RAM in their iMac, certain this Mac can run Mountain Lion.
The reason it might not be installing is that 15 GBs of RAM.
Your iMac should have (4) equal sized, 4 GB sticks of RAM for a total of 16 GBs.l
If your iMac is only reporting that there is only 15 GBs of RAM, you have a RAM stick that is either not seated in its slot properly or is defective/going bad.
This maybe the reason that it won't download it.
Also could be you are running out of free space on your HD.
You need, at least 15-20 % or greater free space left on your HD.

I installed Windows 8 Pro on a PC, quickly shutdown and walked it over to my Mac Pro 1,1.
5365s are 8-core and Geekbench in the 8000 pts range.
An apple 2010 refurbished is $1800 also, old 4-core 2.8 but can upgrade easily to W3680 6-core 3.33

The issue with getting Windows 64-bit onto 32-bit firmware is just the install phase but a real pain. 64-bit Windows requires, if the system is EFI based. I do have one PC that does use UEFI and Windows 8, another that does not. Both are 2008-9 motherboards (Intel which supports UEFI, and Gigabyte which did not with X58). Apple of course last updated our EFI 1,1 and 2,1 back in 2007. Before UEFI was done standardized etc.

Lion + bootcamp partitioning fails

I tried using bootcamp assistant on my mbp with Lion (fresh install) but it seems to hang on "status: partitioning" and the computer seems to hang. I had to forcequit using the power button. And now it seems like the space is lost on the harddrive, 100 gb gone poof.
I tried booting with recovery hd and verify disk and repair disk. No changes.
Did I do wrong by forcequitting during bootcamp partitioning? How long should I have let it actually run? (The whole computer were hanged/locked/frozen).
What should I do now?

Bootcamp partition restriction with vmware fusion

I have a 2 TB hard drive on my iMac that I was going to use to install windows. Using bootcamp, all went well. I put Vmware Fusion on and it worked well. Later I thought it might be nice to have 2 partitions on this hard drive so I re-partitioned the hard drive (not using bootcamp) and then installed windows, again no problem. The problem occurs when I then put on Vmware Fusion. Seems that program is very sensitive to the bootcamp created partition and to use any other program causes Vmware Fusion to fail. Doing some research, I thought I read that bootcamp will ONLY create one partition, no option for two partitions. My question is: Am I reading this correctly? Can bootcamp only make one partition? Is there a hack around this? I hate having a 2 TB hard drive with only one partition.

Boot Camp is a (very limited) utility for creating a non-mac partition on a Mac volume (by Apple). That's why it'll allow to create only 1 partition on a Mac OS hard drive.
This has to be on the HD where there is Mac OS X already - so you can't use BootCamp on your 2nd HD.
If you install 2nd macOS on the 2TB HD, start from there & then partition it with BC, then you should be able to start a bootcamped windows from there.
VMware doesn't have to be used with the help of BootCamp - I have both Parallels & VMware installed without the BootCamp.
As a matter of fact you can install Parallels & VMware from an .iso image (which you can't use with BC) - but Windows has to be installed the same way as with BS = it will take ± 1hour to install.
Also - you can store the resulting 'file' (which in my case I'm storing on my external 'My Book' 2TB hard drive) on any HD which is connected to your iMac.
The 'file' is stored as 'Windows 7.vmwarevm' - my is 13Gb actual size but with-in the win7 I have on it the size is = 40Gb {Local Disc (C:)}.
All these 'Virtual Machines' are automatically compressed by the VMware application.

after first setup, and restoring from another time machine, I discovered that the battery is poorly performing, so decided to install fresh mountain lion. using my previously prepared USB drive failed. so tried to download the mountain lion all over again from the store, where it said, mountain lion is not compatible.

True, but even so, there is no need to re-purchase and download from the App Store (not to say you're implying this, but rather just for informational purposes). When OS X 10.8.5 is released, the Software Update service will be the way to install the update, and not the retail Mac App Store.
Hopefully, if mawy did re-purchase Mountain Lion, when Mavericks comes out then Apple will offer it to mawy for free (it's slated to be out soon).
