Lion Bootcamp Win 7  bluesceen

I just installed Win 7 Ultimate via Bootcamp on my Lion Mac Pro 4.1. Software and Firmware are uptodate.
After installing the Bootcamp drivers in Win 7 it crashed.
After each restart Win 7 crashes after about 20 to 30 seconds.
What can I do?

you really a) read the tutorials, and b) think that is too difficult to do or understand and c) need even that to be dumbed down further?
apple error messages if you get one are useless and misleading is all and the software download can be too darn slow
the problem is you will be confronted with having to learn how to change your own tires eventually.

Parallels 7 makes setting up Windows 8 a breeze and downloads the RP for you. But then upgrading from 7 to 8 is also done through a setup wizard
Paragon CampTuneX $20 is the only one I know of. WinClone 3.x $20 is also worth learning how to use.

  • How to install Windows 7 on 2010 MacBook Air with Lion - Bootcamp Assistant 4.0.1 from USB drive?

I want to install Windows 7 on my 2010 MacBook Air running Lion - Bootcamp Assistand 4.0.1 from a USB drive. I've done this in the past when I was running Snow Leopard and the process was rather easy but now Lion updated the Bootcamp Assistant so i'm no longer able to create a MBR partition without a Super Drive installed. Does anybody managed to do that? Thank you.
The old process working on Snow Leopard:

  • MacOS, Bootcamp, Win-Antivirus and (...User symlinks?)

Hi, I'd appreciate some command line help on this issue:
    My setup:
    750GB HDD with MacOS, apps, and Admin account, and Bootcamp partition;
    2 1TB HDDs RAIDed 0 for 2 User accounts;
Bootcamp: Win XP SP3, McAfee Security, MacDrive (enabling access to MacOS partition from within Win, though not to the User RAID).
    The story:
When I let run McAfee from within Bootcamp scanning for viruses, I discovered too late that McAfee was also scanning my MacOS start-up partition due to its accessability via MacDrive. I immediately stopped McAfee's scan and started up in MacOS. So far so good. However, when I entered my User Account (situated at the RAID0) I discovered that something had happened to my settings.
First, the desktop picture and the mouse settings were set to the default and only a few of the usual User folders were there.
Second: Opening the RAID, the User accounts were still there, but inaccessable from within my (altered) account. Obviously, McAfee had done something ugly to the MacOS, perhaps altering the symlinks to the User Accounts (?) or something else. In the advanced options of the User accounts, the path was listed correctly as before.
Hence, from within the advanced options for the two (external) User accounts, I browsed for the User folders and set them again. This re-definition of the path surprisingly showed up with a number after the path:
    /RAID/Userfolder-1
instead of: /RAID/Userfolder as before disaster struck.
OK, I have again access to the Accounts, but I am wondering if there is an easy way to re-establish the situation as before.
Maybe you also have a hunch on what McAfee might have changed in the UNIX-system or the MacOS? Why would there be this number after the UserFolderName?
By the way, DiskUtility did not flag up any disk problems or permission issues immediately after the "disaster".
    Thanks!

... I should add that after I had re-defined the path to the user accounts, the permissions had a problem. So I ran some command lines to correct the User permissions within each account.

  • Is windows 8 already supported in OSX lion bootcamp?

is windows 8 already supported in OSX lion bootcamp?

No. But that only means it is a little harder and a few issues to work around. No one knows when but it could happen when 8 is posted to buy 10/25/2012, or after. And it may be that they somehow figure whether to provide for Lion or only ML.
Odd concept as to what Macs support Windows 8 but are not supported by 10.8.

  • Cannot download email attachments windows 7 lion bootcamp MacBook Pro.

I cannot download or upload email attachments with windows 7 on lion bootcamp. Attached files such as xxx.doc,  yyyy.jpg, or zzz.txt  erroneously try to download as *icloud* and of course fail. By * I mean alphanumeric string. icloud mail tries to download perfectly good files as gibberish. On my mac lion side the mail function works fine. On the bootcamp side all non-icloud mail functions and browser functions work fine. I can easily send, forward, reply to and receive icloud mail. The only thing wrong is that I cannot sucessfully unload or download icloud email attachments.

  • Easy to install Lion with BootCamp + Win 8 + NTFS partition for data?

Hey, I have a MacBook Pro (2011) currently on OS X 10.6.8, but I bought Lion 10.7 and want to use that.
Here's what I want to do:
    * install Lion (fresh, not upgrade)
    * install BootCamp
    * install Win 8 (DevEd) (for games and some other apps)
    And here are my questions:
    1) What's the best (free) way to save/"ghost" the current OS so I can quickly get back to that in case something happens when I install Lion?
    2) What order do I install BootCamp and Win 8 in? Any fool-proof tutorial for how to do this?
    3) If I do a backup with Time Machine as the last thing I do before installing Lion, I just copy the data back from the TM drive after install, right?
    4) I would like to use Win 8 and some programs there to read and write to the HFS+ OS X partition - is there a free and/or good way to do that?
    5) On PC I can use WinAmp, the great plugin "DeleteCurrentSong" and a shortcut key to delete the currently playing track. Is there a way to do something similar in any program in OS X?
    6) If not, would it be possible to - early in the install process - make a big NTFS partition and put most of my data there so it can be accessed from both OS X (with Paragon) and Windows? And Time Machine wouldn't back it up as long as it's NTFS, right?
Thanks a lot for any answers!

    Answer to question 1:
    a. Get a USB disc the same size or better larger than your internal HD
    b. Download Carbon Copy Cloner (free)
    c. Clone the internal HD to the external disc
    d. Reboot with the 'option' key held down. Choose the external disc to check that the clone was successful and is bootable.
    e. If yes, reboot again, hodling down the 'option' key. Choose the internal HDD.
    f. Dismount/eject the external HD and disconnect it from your computer.
    g. Go to app store and download Lion.
    h. When the download is complete, DO NOT run it. First, copy the file (Applications > Lion Install.app) to another location on your disc (the downloads folder will do). This is because after you run the installer it will delete itself from the Applications folder, and you may very well either want/need to do a re-install later without wanting to wait for hours for the download.
    i. Run Applications > Lion Install.app

  • IMac 27" (late 2011), Mountain Lion, Bootcamp, and OSX partition disappearing and refusing to mount

    Hey all,
I'm putting this as a question in the discussion forms for bootcamp as I'm not sure where else to put it, but I resolved an issue I was having and having spent all of yesterday and the day before reading through this community and some others looking for answers and mostly seeing "hope you have backups, time to format!" (which to me is not always the best answer), I thought I would put it here for search purposes (with all the key words I had to use) in case anyone else has a similar issue.
    My scenario was this:
2011 27" iMac with Mountain Lion installed and Windows 7 installed on a boot camp partition.
    1) Haven't been in windows in a while, wanted to play some windows only steam games. Load windows 7. All is well. Have fun. Time to reboot into osx.
    2) Reboot using bootcamp toolbar icon.
    3) Wander away from computer. Come back to find windows 7 has loaded again. "That's weird", I think. Reboot again, this time hold down option key to select boot device.
    4) Discover the only options are the Bootcamp partition and the Recovery partition. OSX "Macintosh HD" partition has disappeared. Huh.
    5) Load recovery partition and load disk utility.
    6) Review disk utility to discover the Macintosh HD partition shows up in the list, but won't mount. Run verify and repair tools. Errors are as follows: Invalid node structure, invalid key length, invalid record count, etc etc. Running a repair fails - disk utility advises me to back up and erase the drive and that the partition is unrepairable. No offense disk utility, but I think I'll try a few more options first.
    7) Purchase DiskWarrior on advice of multiple posters in other threads and general online consensus of it being capable of fixing these sorts of errors. Go through process of loading bootable dvd.
    8) Diskwarrior cannot see the Macintosh HD partition. This is bad. Review more threads. Advice is that if diskwarrior can't fix it, hope you have backups and wipe the drive. Likely to be hardware failure. I'm skeptical of hardware failure, because windows is chugging along running fine if I boot into it, and I ran a scan of the windows partition and it came back clean. SMART status is also showing the drive is ok. However, running out of options and starting to lose hope.
    9) Follow advice in this support topic: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417?viewlocale=de_de Both safe mode and disk utility aren't options (safe mode won't work without it seeing the partition) so sounds like fsck is the final option.
    10) Start up in Single User Mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492). Run fsck per instructions. It reports back ok.
    11) Realize fsck is checking the recovery partition, and not my damaged OSX partition. Realize I don't know anything about unix commands and have no idea how to tell fsck to check a different partition.
    12) Learn that I need to find out what the drive id is for the damaged partition. Reboot, load up disk utility, select greyed out "macintosh HD" partition, click info. Write down the id: disk0s2 (likely to be the default for you as well if you have one drive in your imac and a default bootcamp install).
    13) Go back into single user mode and type the following (without quotes): "fsck_hfs -fy /dev/disk0s2"
    14) (Forgot to copy down exactly what it said at this point, but gist of it was that the drive had errors and isnt repairable). Feel like ****, thinking this is unlikely to resolve itself nicely.
    15) With nothing to lose, try to force fsck to rebuild the catalog - "fsck_hfs -rc -d /dev/disk0s2" I found this syntax on some forums and can't find the thread again. I have no idea what the -rc and -d do that -fy don't, but if someone can let me know, that'd be cool. Either way, this resulted in something actually happening. Tells me it is "rebuilding catalogue b-tree". Still, finishes with a bunch of errors about improperly linked files, more node errors, etc etc.
    16) Retry "fsck_hfs -fy /dev/disk0s2". It seems to be doing stuff now, even though there are lots of errors. Continue to re-run fsck using this syntax. Probably ran it 10-15 times. Takes over an hour. Finally, minimal errors being reported.
    17) Realize that perhaps I should try Diskwarrior again now, since I've managed to do soemthing to the partition with fsck.
    18) Run Diskwarrior from bootable DVD. Success! It now sees the damaged partition. Reports that it has a bunch of damaged crtitical files, and needs to be repaired, but hey, at least it can see it.
    19) Let Diskwarrior do its thing, and reboot.
    20) Boot from repaired OSX partition. Rejoice. Immediately plug back in the timemachine drive you foolishly unplugged to take away over the holidays and neglected to plug back in before you had commenced work on stuff you didnt want to lose through formatting, which is why you are so desperate to recover files rather than wiping and restoring from time machine backups and avoiding this whole mess.
TL;DR - If Disk Utility and DriveWarrior fail you, try running fsck (using different syntax that apple recommends) as many times as it takes to get the partition to a stage where diskwarrior can see it. All advice I saw for similar questions was to erase, reinstall OSX, and restore from time machine backup. For those of you who are foolish like me and had files that werent time machine'd, or those who operate without, maybe try this.
    Hope this helps!

    What -rc & -d do.
    From: The fsck_hfs manual page.
    https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages /man8/fsck_hfs.8.html
-d      Display debugging information.  This option may provide useful information when fsck_hfs cannot repair a damaged file system.
-r      Rebuild the catalog btree.  This is synonymous with -Rc.
-R flags Rebuilds the requested btree.  The following flags are supported:
                             a       Attribute btree
                             c       Catalog btree
                             e       Extents overflow btree
I had the same problem as you but unfortunately "fsck_hfs -rc -d /dev/disk0s2" is failing saying: "The volume   could not be verified completely." I believe it's supposed to be telling me the partition's name (normally "Macintosh HD") between 'volume' and 'could' because there's 3 spaces in between the words.
"fsck_hfs -fy /dev/disk0s2" is failing with the same error.
I tried "fsck_hfs -r -d /dev/disk0s2" since the c appears redundant with a lowercase R. and it again says it cannot be verified completely and adds "volume check failed with error 7". Which unfortunately is not documented on the fsck_hfs man page!
Unfortunately for me, Diskwarrior still can't see my busted Mac OS partition.

  • Bootcamp, Win 8.1 Pro and Downgrading

I have a couple of people in my home that will not respond well to Windows 8, myself included.
I have a copy of 8.1 pro and would like to use the downgrade rights to access Windows 7 for use on the bootcamp side.
How do I do this? I've seen online where you need a win 7 product key to downgrade to win 7 from 8, and at that point, why upgrade just to downgrade again?!?!?! Can I call MS with the 8 product key to get a 7 product key?
Thanks for the input. Appreciate it

    Call Microsoft and ask them.

  • Bootcamp Win 7 No bootable device -- Insert boot disk and press any key.

Hello everybody, I bought a windows 7 to install with bootcamp in my MBP retina, it came buy post, a windows 7 ultimate, OEM, and for my surprise it came with a DELL computer reinstallation CD, well, I search the Internet and some guys were receiving the same CD, and the web sites were saying that it works perfectly. So, I started to install it with boot camp.
I format my USB 16 gig from scandisk for (DOS FAT) in utility's on my mac, and I went to BOOT CAMP  to install the windows. As I have a superdrive and the CD from win 7, I didnt select the option of creating a image of windows 7 (the first option) and I just select the other two. So the bootcamp asked me to connect my USB stick for downloading the windows drivers, and after downloading he opened the partition screen, I choose 30 gig for my windows partition and pressed continue, after that the boot camp asked me if I have a windows installing cd, and I clicked yes, Next window, " If you have an installation CD the boot camp will delete the boot from your USB stick, press continue, and I did. After that my mac reboot, and now I have the message " No bootable device -- Insert boot disk and press any key"
It doesnt boot with the USB stick.
It doesnt boot with my cd
    ALT CMD doesnt work.
    No MAC no Windows? Sheeee
Please help me if you can.
I have done a backup before.

You should take your Boot Camp discussion to the Boot Camp forum, https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp, where the "no bootable device" issue has been asked and answered many times.

  • Bootcamp - Win 7 Install goes to black screen

    Hi folks, I'm running a 15" MBP Mid 2009.
    2.8 Core 2 Duo
    8 GB RAM
    Nvidia GeForce 9400M 256 Mb
    OSX 10.8.5
Just this weekend I purchased Mountain Lion and decided to start completely fresh. Used the AppStore download to create a USB boot disk. Removed all existing partitions (Read: used disk utility to erase and format as MacOS Extended (journaled)). Installed the fresh copy of OSX to this new partition. Once in the OS I configured my settings, installed iLife and Office and updated all software. All is well with OSX, now it's time for Windows 7.
I run bootcamp assistant. I resize the partitions such that Windows gets 250GB and MacOS gets 500GB. It prepares a usb stick with support files on it then makes sure it's not bootable. I insert my Windows 7 Ultimate disk and get ready to reboot.
Once I reboot I can hear the disk churning and working but the screen is completely black. Tried closing and opening the lid and nothing. Eventually my only choice is to hold the power button for 5 seconds. I use the option key to boot back into OSX fine and everything is as expected there.
For reference the disk i am using is the same exact disk I had used previously to install Windows to this very machine. I have also tested it on other PC's to verify it is bootable so that may rule out a lot of the common suggestions. I also re-burned the same iso at a slower speed and I'm getting the same results with both disks.
What I've found on the web and/or tried:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173 - Seems to be related to the iMac of the same year. I'm hesitant to install iMac drivers on a MBP. However I have a feeling that the issue might be related.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2600 - Resetting PRAM and SMC did not resolve the issue. Still unable to boot to the Windows 7 Boot disk
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4536 - This described a different problem as I do not have the blinking cursor, however I did try removing the USB drive that OSX prepares but no luck there either.
http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/12275/black-screen-when-installing-boot -camp - References the first 2 KBs I found but the interesting suggestion here was to try a second monitor. The best I had available was a mini display port to VGA and using a VGA-to-DVI cable to talk to my monitor (which has no VGA port). No luck there. tried plugging/unplugging the adapter a few times.
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1229631 - On this thread, Post #18 suggests that the new EFI does not allow booting off CD and apparently the USB stick needs to be bootable to make changes to the EFI to allow it to boot from CD. I'm not sure about the validity of this claim but I did download the BootCamp 4.0.4033 for the MBP mid 2009 to try to make a bootable USB - This is on my list of 'to try' items
I knew I was hitting a point where pretty soon I won't be able to self-prescribe the solution so I came to the community for answers.

I have a case open with Apple Support. It is currently in escalation. I will update this thread once I have more information from them.
In the meantime I have tried:
Created a slipstreamed Windows 7 install image with the apple drivers available for my MBP in the bootcamp support files and made both a DVD and a USB install. Both drives are verified bootable, neither resolved the blackscreen issue. Either the graphics driver is not the issue or the drivers I slipstreamed into the install did not work.
Any other thoughts or troubleshooting ideas are greatly appreciated at this time while I wait until Friday for escalation to get back to me.
