Lion & Bootcamp

Hi,
I cannot find "Bootcamp" in my "Bootable OS X Lion".
I also got failed to "Download the Windows support software for the Mac" in the Lion.
So, what should I do to make my iMac has both Mac & Windows.
Thanks.

Well it was interesting. I strongly recommend creating a boot disk from the Lion download prior to installation. I burned it to DVD. Archaic I know but it was a big download and we have multiple macs... and it saved my tail. The initial install I did was from the download but I ended up having to do a hard restart and boot from the DVD. Re installed Lion from the DVD and it booted up fine from there. I did go back and booted from the DVD again performed permission and disk repair. There were a lot of permissions to fix.
I also strongly recommend doing disk and permission repair with your snow leopard disk prior to even downloading Lion from the app store. This might help keep things simple. Who knows. Good luck!

  • How to install Windows 7 on 2010 MacBook Air with Lion - Bootcamp Assistant 4.0.1 from USB drive?

I want to install Windows 7 on my 2010 MacBook Air running Lion - Bootcamp Assistand 4.0.1 from a USB drive. I've done this in the past when I was running Snow Leopard and the process was rather easy but now Lion updated the Bootcamp Assistant so i'm no longer able to create a MBR partition without a Super Drive installed. Does anybody managed to do that? Thank you.
The old process working on Snow Leopard:

  • Is windows 8 already supported in OSX lion bootcamp?

is windows 8 already supported in OSX lion bootcamp?

No. But that only means it is a little harder and a few issues to work around. No one knows when but it could happen when 8 is posted to buy 10/25/2012, or after. And it may be that they somehow figure whether to provide for Lion or only ML.
Odd concept as to what Macs support Windows 8 but are not supported by 10.8.

  • Cannot download email attachments windows 7 lion bootcamp MacBook Pro.

I cannot download or upload email attachments with windows 7 on lion bootcamp. Attached files such as xxx.doc,  yyyy.jpg, or zzz.txt  erroneously try to download as *icloud* and of course fail. By * I mean alphanumeric string. icloud mail tries to download perfectly good files as gibberish. On my mac lion side the mail function works fine. On the bootcamp side all non-icloud mail functions and browser functions work fine. I can easily send, forward, reply to and receive icloud mail. The only thing wrong is that I cannot sucessfully unload or download icloud email attachments.

  • IMac 27" (late 2011), Mountain Lion, Bootcamp, and OSX partition disappearing and refusing to mount

    Hey all,
I'm putting this as a question in the discussion forms for bootcamp as I'm not sure where else to put it, but I resolved an issue I was having and having spent all of yesterday and the day before reading through this community and some others looking for answers and mostly seeing "hope you have backups, time to format!" (which to me is not always the best answer), I thought I would put it here for search purposes (with all the key words I had to use) in case anyone else has a similar issue.
    My scenario was this:
2011 27" iMac with Mountain Lion installed and Windows 7 installed on a boot camp partition.
    1) Haven't been in windows in a while, wanted to play some windows only steam games. Load windows 7. All is well. Have fun. Time to reboot into osx.
    2) Reboot using bootcamp toolbar icon.
    3) Wander away from computer. Come back to find windows 7 has loaded again. "That's weird", I think. Reboot again, this time hold down option key to select boot device.
    4) Discover the only options are the Bootcamp partition and the Recovery partition. OSX "Macintosh HD" partition has disappeared. Huh.
    5) Load recovery partition and load disk utility.
    6) Review disk utility to discover the Macintosh HD partition shows up in the list, but won't mount. Run verify and repair tools. Errors are as follows: Invalid node structure, invalid key length, invalid record count, etc etc. Running a repair fails - disk utility advises me to back up and erase the drive and that the partition is unrepairable. No offense disk utility, but I think I'll try a few more options first.
    7) Purchase DiskWarrior on advice of multiple posters in other threads and general online consensus of it being capable of fixing these sorts of errors. Go through process of loading bootable dvd.
    8) Diskwarrior cannot see the Macintosh HD partition. This is bad. Review more threads. Advice is that if diskwarrior can't fix it, hope you have backups and wipe the drive. Likely to be hardware failure. I'm skeptical of hardware failure, because windows is chugging along running fine if I boot into it, and I ran a scan of the windows partition and it came back clean. SMART status is also showing the drive is ok. However, running out of options and starting to lose hope.
    9) Follow advice in this support topic: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417?viewlocale=de_de Both safe mode and disk utility aren't options (safe mode won't work without it seeing the partition) so sounds like fsck is the final option.
    10) Start up in Single User Mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492). Run fsck per instructions. It reports back ok.
    11) Realize fsck is checking the recovery partition, and not my damaged OSX partition. Realize I don't know anything about unix commands and have no idea how to tell fsck to check a different partition.
    12) Learn that I need to find out what the drive id is for the damaged partition. Reboot, load up disk utility, select greyed out "macintosh HD" partition, click info. Write down the id: disk0s2 (likely to be the default for you as well if you have one drive in your imac and a default bootcamp install).
    13) Go back into single user mode and type the following (without quotes): "fsck_hfs -fy /dev/disk0s2"
    14) (Forgot to copy down exactly what it said at this point, but gist of it was that the drive had errors and isnt repairable). Feel like ****, thinking this is unlikely to resolve itself nicely.
    15) With nothing to lose, try to force fsck to rebuild the catalog - "fsck_hfs -rc -d /dev/disk0s2" I found this syntax on some forums and can't find the thread again. I have no idea what the -rc and -d do that -fy don't, but if someone can let me know, that'd be cool. Either way, this resulted in something actually happening. Tells me it is "rebuilding catalogue b-tree". Still, finishes with a bunch of errors about improperly linked files, more node errors, etc etc.
    16) Retry "fsck_hfs -fy /dev/disk0s2". It seems to be doing stuff now, even though there are lots of errors. Continue to re-run fsck using this syntax. Probably ran it 10-15 times. Takes over an hour. Finally, minimal errors being reported.
    17) Realize that perhaps I should try Diskwarrior again now, since I've managed to do soemthing to the partition with fsck.
    18) Run Diskwarrior from bootable DVD. Success! It now sees the damaged partition. Reports that it has a bunch of damaged crtitical files, and needs to be repaired, but hey, at least it can see it.
    19) Let Diskwarrior do its thing, and reboot.
    20) Boot from repaired OSX partition. Rejoice. Immediately plug back in the timemachine drive you foolishly unplugged to take away over the holidays and neglected to plug back in before you had commenced work on stuff you didnt want to lose through formatting, which is why you are so desperate to recover files rather than wiping and restoring from time machine backups and avoiding this whole mess.
TL;DR - If Disk Utility and DriveWarrior fail you, try running fsck (using different syntax that apple recommends) as many times as it takes to get the partition to a stage where diskwarrior can see it. All advice I saw for similar questions was to erase, reinstall OSX, and restore from time machine backup. For those of you who are foolish like me and had files that werent time machine'd, or those who operate without, maybe try this.
    Hope this helps!

    What -rc & -d do.
    From: The fsck_hfs manual page.
    https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages /man8/fsck_hfs.8.html
-d      Display debugging information.  This option may provide useful information when fsck_hfs cannot repair a damaged file system.
-r      Rebuild the catalog btree.  This is synonymous with -Rc.
-R flags Rebuilds the requested btree.  The following flags are supported:
                             a       Attribute btree
                             c       Catalog btree
                             e       Extents overflow btree
I had the same problem as you but unfortunately "fsck_hfs -rc -d /dev/disk0s2" is failing saying: "The volume   could not be verified completely." I believe it's supposed to be telling me the partition's name (normally "Macintosh HD") between 'volume' and 'could' because there's 3 spaces in between the words.
"fsck_hfs -fy /dev/disk0s2" is failing with the same error.
I tried "fsck_hfs -r -d /dev/disk0s2" since the c appears redundant with a lowercase R. and it again says it cannot be verified completely and adds "volume check failed with error 7". Which unfortunately is not documented on the fsck_hfs man page!
Unfortunately for me, Diskwarrior still can't see my busted Mac OS partition.

  • Lion Bootcamp won't install Windows 7 Professional

I have a fresh install of Lion on my iMac and have been trying to install Windows 7 Professional using Bootcamp 4.0.  Here's what I've done.
    1) Loaded bootcamp and followed the instructions to partition the drive.  Split the 500GB drive so the Mac would have approximately 300GB and Win7 would have 200GB.  Then bootcamp asked me to insert my Win7 disk which I did and click "Install now".  I did so and it rebooted.  Upon rebooting my iMac says "No bootable device.  Insert boot disk and press any key".  However, the Win7 install disk is already in the drive.
After reading on forums I've tried the following but still to no avail.
    2) I reboot the computer while holding down the "C" key.  Occassionally when I do this the Installation will start and I make it to the Windows activation screen where it asks where I want to install the OS.  I select "advanced" and go ahead and select "format" the Bootcamp drive and it takes about 10 seconds to format.  Then I proceed with the install.  It comes to the screen where it says "Expanding Windows Activated Files" and it shows a 0% and just hangs there.  On one occasion when I was in the beginning stages of the install program it stopped and asked me to insert a disk to install a driver for the disk drive.  From what I can tell it's like the mac isn't finding and reading the DVD files properly.  And sometimes it works for a while and but after a bit it just craps out.  Before Lion I had Snow Lepoard and using Bootcamp 3.2 i was able to install Win7 with no problems.
    3) One last thing.  So after messing with Lion I became frustrated and thought I'm just going to go back to SL.  So I pulled out my SL disk and went ahead and did a full SL install.  However, when I went into Bootcamp (v3.2 or whatever version comes with SL) it would not allow me to partition my Hard drive. Some error comes up and I can't remember exactly what the error said.  But after doing more research on the web I found the problem.  It's that Lion installs another hidden partition on my drive which I can't seem to remove.  Even when I used disk utilities and formatted the drive before installing SL the hidden Lion recovery partition is still there.  So now I can't seem to go back to a clean install of SL to get bootcamp and Win7 working again.
Any help here is much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Steven

Does fdisk work? Something like 'sudo fdisk -a hfs'? Or maybe 'fdisk -i' first. You see, I'm guessing here.
If you get the unmount error: would 'umount -Af' from USB work? You probably tried that already.
If this all fails, the next step _I_ would take, would be plugging the disk into a Linux box nearby and check the disk there.

Problems with GUID partition table and/or Boot Camp usually require a full reformat of the drive. All data on the drive willl be lost.
Backup your user files and folders manually (drag and drop) from all partitions/OS's installed to a external powered drive and disconnect this drive, before proceeding with any OS upgrade.
    Create a bootable disk.
    BackupLion Bootable 10.7  Disk
Purchaseand download Lion from the Mac App Store on any Lion compatible Macrunning Snow Leopard.
Right click on “Mac OS X Lion”     installer and choose the option to “Show Package Contents.”
Inside the Contents folder that     appears you will find a SharedSupport folder and inside the     SharedSupport folder you will find the “InstallESD.dmg.” This is     the Lion boot disc image we have all been waiting for.
Copy “InstallESD.dmg” to     another folder like the Desktop.
Launch Disk Utility and click the     burn button.
Select the copied “InstallESD.dmg” as the image to burn,     insert a standard sized 4.7 GB DVD, and wait for your new Lion Boot     Disc to come out toasty hot.
With this disc you can boot any Lion compatible Mac, and install10.7 just like you installed previous version of Mac OS X. You can even use Disk Utility's Restore function to image your Lion boot disc image onto a external drive suitable for performing a clean install on a optical-drive-less MacBook Air, or Mac mini server.

If you can't do any of this. Just hold off upgrading and let a computer support person help you.

  • Partitons w/in Mountain Lion: Bootcamp oldest Microsoft OS; other partitions oldest Mac OS?

Would like to run early 2000s Windows and Mac games (e.g. Tombraider) on the new iMac w/Mountain Lion. Can I Bootcamp to XP or should I go to Vista or 7? As for Mac OS can I go as far back as Tiger (10.4) or only later such as Leopard (10.5 or 10.6)?

It can't. Older Mac OS X versions simply won't boot that iMac. Furthermore, partitioning a drive with Boot Camp set up on it may disable the ability to boot into Windows.
You were able to set up the G5 with two Mac OS X versions because both of them were newer than the computer.

  • Your best guess--lion, bootcamp, and xp

I have a dual core iMac with snow leopard, bootcamp with xp installed and one program that I use in windows to run my embroidery machine.  I never go to the Internet from xp, never print from xp, don't allow any windows updates, and have no security software installed under xp.  All my embroidery designs are stored in snow leopard and transferred to flash drive and imported into windows xp when needed.  I have time machine.
I read that apple will no longer "support" xp in future bootcamps.  Would you "guess" that if I buy and install lion in July that lion won't touch my windows xp partition such that my xp/embroidery program will continue to work--even though apple won't be "supporting" xp?

It wouldn't hurt to install Microsoft's own Security Essentials. It works and does a fine job.
No one knows but every time even 10.6.8, someone will say "it killed my XYZ" and you should have backups.
Production machine: wait until .1 or .2 and don't rush in or take the plunge.
XP isn't supported on NEW hardware, Macs that have come out with new features and logicboards, and which aren't supported. SSDs: not supported by XP anyway. Not because of change to OS.
Start by preparing for a new OS. Create a bootable clone backup of OS X. Make a backup image of XP too, whether Winclone or Paragon or someone else's.

  • Lion Bootcamp partition compatible with SL?

I have Lion installed (clean install) and am unhappy with the performance to say the least.  In my experience SL was more stable with my video apps.
Anyhow, I've created a bootcamp partition via Lion to install Windows 7 (what a PITA).  I want to format the Lion partition and reinstall SL.
    My question is:
Are there any issues with using SL with my bootcamp partition that was created with Lion's newer version of bootcamp?

Same difference as I believe a reinstall erases first then installs. To be sure though Start from the SL dvd and go to utilities and erase the Mac partition then install. As BootCamp is a separate partition it should be untoched.
You will undoubtedly have the Lion restore partition left but it is invisible to Disk utility. Here is the procedure I followed to get rid of this partition since I have the Lion USB install thumb drive and do not need it.
    1) Make the Recovery visible in Disk Utility by using a program like Secrets:http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/27025/secrets or MacPilot:http://www.koingosw.com/products/macpilot.php (15 day free trial).
    2) Highlite the Recovery partition and Control click it and select Mount the partition.
    3) With the Recovery partition highlited, erase the partition, you'll get an error message, ignore it.
    4) Now highlite the top identity of the hard drive and select the partition tab.
    5) Highlite the Recovery partition and press the minus sign.
    6) Click and hold on the bottom edge of the partition above and drag it to the bottom, if it doesn't go there automatically, the press apply.

  • Lion Bootcamp Win 7  bluesceen

I just installed Win 7 Ultimate via Bootcamp on my Lion Mac Pro 4.1. Software and Firmware are uptodate.
After installing the Bootcamp drivers in Win 7 it crashed.
After each restart Win 7 crashes after about 20 to 30 seconds.
    What can I do?

you really a) read the tutorials, and b) think that is too difficult to do or understand and c) need even that to be dumbed down further?
apple error messages if you get one are useless and misleading is all and the software download can be too darn slow
the problem is you will be confronted with having to learn how to change your own tires eventually.
faq, how to, manuals, tech articles: www.apple.com/support/bootcamp
Parallels 7 makes setting up Windows 8 a breeze and downloads the RP for you. But then upgrading from 7 to 8 is also done through a setup wizard
Paragon CampTuneX $20 is the only one I know of. WinClone 3.x $20 is also worth learning how to use.
