Lion broke 2-finger swipe on apps?

I used to enjoy 2-finger swipe to go forward and backwards in applications.
For example, 2-finger swipe on Chrome browser (or any browser) would go back/forward on previously viewed webpages.
On iTunes, 2-finger swipe would help me easily navigate back to All Artists view.
Now, 2-finger swipe can be turned on or off for scrolling through desktops.
Is there any solution to get the old function of 2-finger swipe back? 1-finger swipe does not replicate the former use.

In system prefs, try chosing "Swipe with Two or Three fingers" in the drop down menu for Swipe Between Pages. You can still use the 2 finger swipe in safari, but you can use the old 3 finger swipe (with the old direction) in iTunes/Finder/Mac App Store etc.
Let me know if this helps!

  • 3-finger swipe between apps

    Hello,
I've downloaded Yosemite and can no longer 3-finger swipe between - for example - Word and Safari. I can swipe to the control panel, shifting the page away to the right, but not to access another open app by swiping away to the left. I have 3-finger swipe between full screen apps operational on my track pad and something tells me the problem is how apps are now opening - behind and infant of each other rather than beside, as before. Any ideas? Thanks

    Hello Slupasko,
Yosemite has changed it in your settings. You need to use 4 fingers to swipe between FULL SCREEN apps. The 3 finger swipe is now to move a screen or a picture or something else. Of course you can change that in the settings of the trackpad.
    Good luck

  • Magic Mouse 1 finger swipe moves app to new desktop

My mid-2009 is running the latest ML bits and it has developed an extremely irritating behavior.
When using my Magic Mouse a 1 finger swipe across the top part of a window moves it to the next desktop. I have my settings in system prefs set to use a 3 finger swipe to change desktops. I also have turned off "Swipe between pages" in the Magic Mouse settings. Sometimes I'll move my finger on the mouse a litlle and suddenly find myself (and the window I was over) on the next desktop.
I also get this behavior on my MBP pad if I swipe 2 fingers across the top of a window. That's also a little irritating, but less disruptive to my work.
I would love to know how to disable this behavior.

I guess you have installed all available updates, including this one?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3936
As a test, you can create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8235.html
Log out and log in to the new account. Try the mouse there. This will help narrow down the cause. If it works in the new account, the cause is probably in your normal user account. If the same problem recurs, then the cause is probably at the system level.

  • Can not do "two finger swipe to go back" in "look up" gesture.

In Mountain Lion the "two finger swipe right to go back" navigates just fine in the "look up" function in a three finger tap gesture.
But in Mavericks the two finger swipe right cannot go back.
    This makes a low efficiency.
Do someone get the same issue or just me? Can this be fixed?
    Thanks.

I just found out that the two finger swipe right don't do any thing on the right side of this red line in the pop up window, but on the left side of this red line, it works.
    Still,
    Low efficiency.

  • Three finger swipe crashes applications (eg Firefox and Spotify)

I use the latest version of Lion (10.7.2) with a Magic Trackpad and ever since I upgraded to Lion the three finger swipe gesture results in crash in several different applications (e.g. Firefox 6+7 and Spotify). The crashes in Firefox is very annoying since I would like to use the gesture as back-forward navigation.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

Your suggestion of using the Console helped me to solve the issue. I noticed in the console logs that several applications complained about not being able to reach something related to "Library/InputManagers/MultiClutchInputManager". So obviously I hadn't removed all traces of the input tools I used before.
So I deleted two files and one folder in InputManagers folder (all files were all related to MultiClutch) and restarted the computer. Now after the reboot, Spotify doesnt crash and I can use the three finger swipe in Firefox to navigate back/forward.
Thanks for the suggestions, William Boyd, Jr.!

    Hey Eric,
Thanks for taking the time. Unfortunately no that does not solve it. Same as swipe it will get me there and it will show separate programs spaced out. The issue I am having is that all my open word files are bunched up in a pile on top of each other. I can see the edges of each one but I want them to be separated from each other enough that I can visually identify what file is what.
Again, thanks for trying, it is appreciated.

It's a Magic Mouse question. I have set this up in Preferences by ticking Swipe between pages with one finger and also Swipe between full-screen apps with two fingers,  however when I try to do the latter, the 2 finger swipe will take me from the app that I am on to the dashboard only and not to my other open apps.
I also find that Smart zoom only works with some apps, for instance not with Word docs or email.
How can I correct this please?

Just figured out it also does not work with the Mail app.

  • Upgraded to Lion & can no longer finger swipe for/backwards between pages. Is there a fix for this?

Title says it all. I just upgraded to Mac OS X Lion, and can no longer use a finger swipe, whether one or 2 fingered, to move backwards an forwards between pages. I can still do so in Safari, but not in Firefox 5.01, my preferred browser, any longer. Doesn't matter if I try using one, two or more fingers
Is there a fix for this? Thank you.

If you download this program http://blog.boastr.net/?page_id=1722 (better touch tool), you can make your own swipe gestures.
However, I have been able to three-finger swipe forward and back on webpages by going to ''system preferences'' > ''trackpad settings'' > ''more gestures''
and checking the box at ''"swipe between pages"'' and selecting ''swipe left/right with 3 fingers''

  • No two finger swipe for navigating files in Lion?

I use the track pad and just updated to Lion - which has some great features. But I while I can two finger swipe on Safari pages to go back and forth, I don't seem to be able to do that now when going through my files in Finder....
Am I missing something or is this the way it is now?....
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Greg

check your gestures settings in system preferences>trackpad>more gestures tab

  • How can I get a display of all running programs in lion like I used to get when I did a 4 finger swipe in snow leopard?

how can I get a display of all running programs in lion like I used to get when I did a 4 finger swipe in snow leopard?
I liked to turn off running programs without a window that I was no longer using
    thanks.
Best I can do now is to open the "force quit" window and click on programs I want to stop and then send each one a "command-Q" and then repeat as necessary

Command + Tab is what you are after i think

  • Two finger swipe was working for Firefox 7 in my macbook pro running lion yesterday but not today. i have installed Alfred. Has that broken it?

I was able to use the two finger swipe gesture on my macbook pro trackpad in firefox 7. It was working fine but has just stopped working. It does work if I hold the alt key while swiping but that seems a bit pointless. The only thing I have changed on my mac is that I installed Alfred. Has that broken the gesture?

Sorry to tell you this but it's starting to sound like a hardware issue.
Reason being is because youi've had this issue when you had 2GB of RAM, and running Leopard to Snow Leopard then to Lion.
Even after you've reinstalled everything it was still giving you issues.
Ok, try this one.  Open the back of your MB, take one RAM out of the top slot, then turn your MB on and see if it still freezes.  If it does, then take the lower RAM off the botton slot and install it on the top slot.  Turn it back on.  If the problem stops, then it could be your RAM slots.

  • Lion finder 2 finger gesture?

I need help!! I hadn't plugged my phone into itunes since my computer crashed. I had the option of creating a new phone or restoring to a backup. I didn't really understand the options, so I thought itunes would give me a warning before wiping my device. It didnt, and now I've lost everything. is there a way to get it back?
If you used icloud to store contacts and calandar then you should be ok there. Also you can redownload any purchashed apps, music, videos, books and anything else you purchashed off itunes. The only thing you might be missing is photos you have taken on the phone, unless you had photo stream activated, then they would be there and you could pull them down into your camera roll. The only other data that would be missing is game data or any other data that apps had stored on the phone. That is why I recommend that anyone with a 3GS or higher should use icloud, photo stream, and itunes match. With those you will never lose any data ever again. You can even do backups to icloud and you can restore straight from the cloud, no itunes required.

  • Three finger swipe in keynote

When editing slides in Keynote, I could change from one slide to the other with a 3-finger swipe to the right or left.  With the new Lion upgrade, it appears that is no longer possible.  Does anyone know a way to restore that function?

Apple Menu -> System Preferences -> Trackpad -> More Gestures -> Swipe between pages -> Swipe left or right with two or three fingers. This allows you to swipe between pages (or slides in Keynote) using three fingers in apps that doesn't support Lion's new 2 finger swipe. Swipe direction is opposite when using 3 fingers though, compared to 2 finger swipe (if I remember correctly).

  • I work on dual screens on a new mac pro but when I do the 4 finger swipe it moves both screens, is there a way to move just the screen that is active?

I work on dual screens on a new mac pro but when I do the 4 finger swipe it moves both screens, is there a way to move just the screen that is active?

Multiple desktops and dual screens really aren't meant to work together. Apple came up with this multiple desltops feature and never really thought about users that use a dual monitor setup. So use either multiple desktops OR dual monitors but not both. Also don't try to use any App in Full Screen Mode as that doesn't work with dual screen setups either.
