Lion Character viewer "insert with font" option missing.

In Lions character viewer, the "insert with font" option is missing. Anyone who knows how to fix this?

Seems to be an Adobe thing. CS5 and character viewer is a no go.
So you find no way to transfer something from Character Viewer, not double clicking, not drag and drop directly or from Favorites?
You might see if the Adobe Forums have something on it.

  • How do I insert Greek characters from the character viewer in Lion?

In Lion, the Character Viewer shows many more options for different characters than SL.  Of course, it displays Latin, but, as I scientist I often need to insert Greek characters, but I cannot find Greek characters in the Character Viewer.  I don't otherwise need to select Greek as a language.  Inserting Greek characters from some applications like MS Word still works.
And ... while I'm here ... what happened to the "insert" button?  -j

Click the gear icon to edit your list:
    Select Customize List:
    and check "Greek"

  • How to get character viewer to show a specific font

Previously you could specify a font to see it's characters and glyphs. Now I don't see how to do that. What am I missing? or has that gone the way of font specification in the keyboard viewer too?

Yes, this feature has been omitted from Lion Character Viewer.  You might try PopChar.  And you can ask Apple to put it back here:

  • Insert with overwrite(Plng Folder)

    Hi Friends,
In planning folder, change mode level at varible selections, if u right click system prompts one context menu. In that Insert with overwrite  option is there? what is significance of this?
    thanks,
    RP

    Hi,
I think your variable is user entry enabled. This option "Insert with overwrite" will overwrite the existing value defined for a particular user.
If you dont got for this option the new entry will append an additional value for the variable.
You will find the difference when you check the variable in your Info Area.

  • Missing Unicode font in Character Viewer

The OS 10.6 Character Viewer has a View menu from which one can select the Glyph mode then select a font from the Font menu. How can I get Lion's CV to display my Unicode font and allow me to insert its characters into documents?

Thanks for that info!  I found a character map at
    http://www.wix.com/virtualconservatory/home#!menu/vstc1=character-maps
It's a bit odd they would call these "unicode" fonts, since they replace almost all the required unicode glyphs with specialized music symbols.  Normally they would be called "non-unicode" unless they put all that into the Private Use Area.
Glad you were able to solve your problem!

  • What happened to glyph option in character viewer in Lion?

The character viewer has changed and I frequently use this to access glyphs. Am I missing something?

Apple decided to omit the View = Glyph option in Lion.  I think it is a big mistake.  The place to tell them is
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
I don't have popchar, but the stuff I read sure makes it sound like you can select a font and access its glyphs, e.g.

  • In Font Book OS 10.8.5 how do you insert a character with Font like you could in 10.6

In OS 10.6 I could go >edit>special characters: view glyph, glyph Catalog, Font: <font name> and I would see a table of each character in a font. Then, I could select a character and either drag it to my document or click Insert Font in the lower right hand corner and it would put the character into the document.
How do I do the same thing in OS 10.8.5? How do I insert a character into a document through fontbook or any other manner?

You need to use another app for this, like Ultra Character Map or Popchar.
This should only be necessary if you are using a non-standard font, which may not be a good idea (since there is no guarantee your glyph will be seen by anyone else).  If the character exists in Unicode, you should be able to find it in Character Viewer and input via double-click or drag/drop.
If you provide examples of what you need to input, I can perhaps tell you how to find them.

  • OS X lion dosn't view fonts in character viewer, this is big problem, OS X lion dosn't view fonts in character viewer, this is big problem

character viewer cant' view fonts, so my language have 52 letters all this letters are not listed in character viewer, so i cant pick that letters, and i installed fonts have that letters, that is big mistake of os x lion, then i am using another pc windows7  for that.

What language are you talking about?  You should not need to see fonts in Character Viewer to input any language using the standard Unicode encoding -- input is done via a dedicated keyboard layout.
PopChar is an app that can input characters from individual fonts.  Also you can transplant Character Viewer for Snow Leopard to Lion and run it as an independent app if you want.

  • I lost my ability to view PDFs with update and Lion install. Says "plugin missing", please help?!?!

I lost my ability to view PDFs with update and Lion install. Says "plugin missing", please help?!?!
I am trying to finish up a paper for my masters and now I am stuck because the library website won't work without PDF

Adobe has a knowledgebase article on this.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/905/cpsid_90508.html
    Acrobat family
Adobe Reader plug-in and Acrobat plug-in are not compatible with the Safari 5.1 browser, which will ship with Mac OS X 10.7 and for 10.6 in July 2011. Adobe Reader and Acrobat will continue to work as standalone applications on Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.6, and will render PDF documents outside of the browser. In addition, Safari 5.1 renders PDF documents natively. However, the Adobe Reader and Acrobat plug-ins will not function as expected in LiveCycle and Acrobat workflows that require either plug-in to render PDF documents in Safari 5.1.
    Recommendation to Customers/Users:
For Acrobat customers who utilize functionality like forms, digital signatures, portfolios, guides, 3D, extended PDFs and rights management, and who require the Acrobat plug-in to render PDF documents in the Safari browser, Adobe recommends that you continue to use Safari 5.0.x and Mac OS X 10.6. We will provide updates as we continue to investigate this issue.

  • "Font Variation" in character viewer

Well, now that I've made the ghastly mistake of "upgrading" to 10.9....
Is there any way to make the "Font Variation" aspect of Character Viewer behave the way it did in 10.6? I want to see all the font names all the time, each under its glyph, not just the font of a single glyph when I click on it. How do I know which fonts contain a particular character?

    Tom Gewecke wrote:
I think the app Ultra Character Map can do what you want.
Most apps will automatically use a font which has the character, even if you have selected one that does not.
Yup. I can remember when users of That Other Platform had to have it explained to them that Font Substitution is good and useful and desirable. That was only about 10 years ago. For that matter, I can also remember when "Font Substitution" meant that your printer replaced New York with Times. I definitely don't miss that stage! But there are still times I'd like to know which fonts actually contain a given character.
I'll have to assume that all the other useful features are also gone:
    show character selected in application
paste into application (as an alternative to using the Unicode Hex Input keyboard layout, which always smacks of Windows circa 2002)
    built-in link to FontBook application
list option to show all fonts containing a particular glyph
    Sigh.
Ultra Character Map may indeed be what I want. $9.99. Thanks, Apple! It riles me that someone decided all these features are not only unnecessary but actively harmful, requiring their removal from OS > 10.6. There's no way to downgrade your operating system, is there?

    Hello .
Some NLS charsets (such as UTF8) require more than one byte to store accented characters like "Ȩ", "ȿ", "", "", "ȵ", "ȭ" in the database.
For example, when a 10 character string is inserted into a varchar2(10) column, the above messages may be signaled if your string contains accentuated characters such as "Ȩ", "ȿ", "", ", "ȵ", "ȭ". used in languages like German
    One solution
If the UTF8 NLS charset is being used with French, German ... characters in an Oracle database, then the size of the target column length should be set accordingly.
Set the NLS_LANGUAGE and NLS_CHARACTERSET database parameters.
One approach is to change the Database settings as follows:
    ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET WE8ISO8859P1;
    SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE
    Onother
According to the Oracle documentation, column length semantics determine whether the length of a column is specified in bytes or in characters. You use BYTE to specify that the length is in bytes, and you use CHAR to specify that the length is in characters. CHAR length semantics is also known as codepoint length semantics.
Because some character sets require more than one byte for each character, a specification of 10 BYTE for a column might actually store less than 10 characters for certain character sets, but a 10 CHAR specification ensures that the column can store 10 characters, regardless of the character set.
You set the length semantics for an Oracle database using the NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS initialization parameter, and all VARCHAR2 and CHAR columns use the setting specified for this initialization parameter as the default. If this initialization parameter is not set, then the default setting is BYTE.

  • A lot of characters missing from "Character Viewer" .. can I get them?

Most musical symbols show an empty box.
    Other categories too...
Could I've erased them? With CleanMyMac maybe?

Character Viewer isn't doing what I want it to do, can somebody help me?
Here's the issue: I have a font installed called Anastasia, which contains musical symbols. I would like to be able to bring up its whole character set on the screen so I can pick which character to insert in my document. It seems to me that this is what Character Viewer is intended to do; however, I can find no way to view the character set for this particular font, Anastasia. The "Muscial Symbols" collection brings up a limited set of symbols, such as notes, but it's an incomplete set and it does not show Anastasia as one of the available font variations. This font is definitely installed and at least one of my installed apps uses it routinely. But it doesn't seem to be accessible through Character Viewer. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

  • Can't insert characters from Character Viewer

I have used Character Viewer in the past. The way it worked was to highlight the character in Character Viewer and then click the "insert" button. I can bring up Character Viewer and see all the characters, but even after highlighting a character, I cannot insert it into the document.
Anybody else have the same problem? Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

You need to have a machine with 10.6 on it, then find the CharacterPalette.app in System/Library/Input Methods, then move it to your mountain lion machine.

Thanks for chipping in.   I discovered something after trying what you suggested.   I have quite a few collections of hits by year from Time Life and Billboard.  I've eliminated duplicate tracks that appear in both collections (or other CDs for that matter), but cross-reference the CD where I deleted the track and placed in in the comments section of the CD track I retained.   If I "search" by song name, only the remaining track appears.   But if I want to hear for example Classic Rock 1964, only those tracks remaining would be there when I pull up that CD.   So, I type "Classic Rock 1964,"  in the search field.  First the boxes on the right of the screen open up showing album icons.  Showing four tracks by album with a button to view 10 more, then four songs with an option to vies 18 more.   I finally noticed that at the top of the boxes is a blue band that reads, :Show Classic Rock 1964 in Music.  When I double click on this blue band, all 24 tracks from the original CD appear in the song list format even though I had deleted two of them because they appeard in a Beach Boys CD.   On those tracks, I had referenced Classic Rock 1964 in the comments field.    So, bottom line, Search will also look in the comments field if you click "filter by all" in the magnifying glass to the left of the search field.   And you can move all tracks that if finds into a song list by double clicking on the blue band.

  • What is the use for CREATING VIEW WITH CHECK OPTION?

    Dear Legends,
    I have a doubt
What is the use for creating view?
A: First Data Integrity, Selecting Particular Columns..
What is the use for creating a view with check option?
A: As per oracle manual I read that its a referential integrity check through views.
A: Enforcing constraints at DB level.
A: using CHECK OPTION we can do INSERTS UPDATES for a view for those columns who have no constraints... is it right??
A: If we do a INSERT OR UPDATE for columns who have constraints it will show error... is it right???
    Please clear my doubt's Legends

A: First Data Integrity, Selecting Particular Columns..Most views are created and used for convenience. A view is a saved query. If the same operations are often done, then it can be very convenient to code those operations once, in a view, and refer to the view rather than explicitly doing those operations.
Sometimes, views are created and used for security reasons. For example, you many want to allow some users to see only certain rows or certain columns of a table.
Views are necessary for INSTEAD OF triggers.
What is the use for creating a view with check option?
A: As per oracle manual I read that its a referential integrity check through views. The reason is integrity, not necessarily referential integrity. The CHECK option applies only when DML is done through the view. It prohibits certain changes. For example, if a user can't see certain rows through a view, the CHECK option keeps the user from creating such rows.
A: Enforcing constraints at DB level.I'm not sure what you mean. Please give an example.
A: using CHECK OPTION we can do INSERTS UPDATES for a view for those columns who have no constraints... is it right??No. Using CHECK OPTION, you can do some inserts and updates, but not others. The columns involved may or may not have constraints in either case.
A: If we do a INSERT OR UPDATE for columns who have constraints it will show error... is it right???If you try to violate a constraint, you'll get an error. That happens in views with or without the CHECK OPTION, and also in tables.
