Lion crashes frequently

Is anyone else seeing crashes (kernel panics) on an almost daily basis with Lion?  I've had this intermittantly since upgrading, now on 10.7.2.  It will happen when you're just reading a web page, opening a spreadsheet, etc. -- very random.  I have 2 active accounts running and it happens on both.  Just get the nice black screen that comes across telling you to restart.  At least in 10.7.2 you get the auto-restart... in 10.7.1 it just hung and you had to physcially restart.
Hardware seems to check out.
Thanks!

and here is yesterday's log...

  • OS X Lion crashes frequently, cause determined - how to fix it?

    Hello everyone,
After scouring the internet for someone with a similar problem as mine, I've come to the conclusion that mine seems to be unique.
Now, the problem I'm dealing with is that my MacBook Pro (Mid 2010, Corei7) freezes up every time I undertake specific actions. When my MacBook Pro freezes, the screen goes black any audio segment that was playing at that moment starts looping. To escape this frozen state I am forced to do a forced shutdown, because it won't respond any other way.
The strange thing is, is that it only freezes during particular actions. These are:
Using Quick Preview (space bar), and switching between items using Quick Preview.
Opening a 'Browse...' window, allowing you to upload files in Google Chrome.
    Downloading files in Google Chrome.
    Using Mission Control.
Now, the freeze doesn't occur every time I use these features, so basically it's like making a gamble every time, hoping my work doesn't get lost.
As an attempt to try and fix this issue, I've already tried a clean install of OS X Lion, but unfortunately the problem remains.
Is there anyone out there with the same problem, or is there someone who might know how to fix it?
In any case, thanks in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Cris

This seems to be happening to quite a few people.
I've seen it suggested that booting into the recovery disk (power on while holding down 'command' and 'r'), going to Disk Utility in the menu bar and repairing the disk might help.

  • Mountain Lion Crashes on resume from sleep

Is anyone else having problems with Mountain Lion crashing frequently on resume from sleep?  I have tried using both the default "sleep and hibernate" mode and switching to hibernate only.  In both modes, OSX "gray" screens just after it appears to finish resuming from sleep mode.  This is an Early 2011 MBP 15" with a clean Lion upgraded to Mountain Lion.
It is starting to look like another failed upgrade, "sigh". I haven't had any luck with OSX OS upgades and always seems like I end up rebuilding.

Same happening here. I also have a problem with Mail.app crashing when I close the window with cmd+w. My upgrade to Mountain Lion was applied Lion that had been migrated from my old MacBook.
The migrated setup was working fine for just over a week before I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Unfortunately I didn't check that Time Machine was backing up my machine and it turns out I don't have that as an option of rolling back to Lion.
Hoping that a fix is found to both problems. Fairly confident given that other people are reporting the same, even on a clean upgrade.

  • Since downgrading to LION iCal frequently crashes on opening

Since downgrading to LION iCal frequently crashes on opening or very soon afterwards. Sometimes does it 3x in a row then finally opens.
    Anyone else have this problem?
    Thanks for your time,
    Jules

Do you have submitted another recent crash report that does show a crashing thread?

  • My mac has become very slow and crashes frequently after installing Lion

My mac has become very slow and crashes frequently after installing Lion. I have a 4 GB DDR3 ram and 2.4 GHz Processor. The Mac was running just fine on Snow Leopard. Has anyone else faced this issue?
Any suggestions on how to solve it?
    Thank you

I refer you to the TM expert

As a extra precaution I would copy the user file folders of Music, Documents, Pictures etc to another external drive and disconnect, just in case.
Always maintain TWO backups of your data at all times, since your messing with one, you need another until your back at two again.

  • MacBook Pro 8, 2 Crashes Frequently

I've a MacBook Pro 8,2 Early 2011 (15", 2.3 GHz i7, 16GB RAM). Since last month, my system started to crash frequently, from once a day to few (3-4) times a day. The crashes happened at random times - as I'm replying emails with Mail, browsing with Safari, opening files from Finder, editing a Word doc or Powerpoint ppt, etc. Each time the machine crashes, it simply reboots and goes straight to login. There is no specific pattern or steps that I observed to replicate this. Originally, the crashes happened on OS X Mountion Lion. I've upgraded to OS X Mavericks hoping that this will be fixed, however my system still crashes frequently even after upgraded to OS X Mavericks. The App Store confirms that there are no further updates for my system.
Any ideas on how to fix this, or at least how to go about pinpointing the problem? In case it helps, my latest error report is below.
    Thanks.

  • DW5.5 crashing frequently (both 10.6.8 and 10.8.5)

Hello. I'm having problems with Dreamweaver CS5.5 crashing frequently while I'm working.
Sometimes I'm saving, sometimes I'm not even working in the program, but it is open in the background and it crashes.
I've tried to research causes online, but I'm still stuck.
I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard, in large part because of DW crashing, but the crashing has not stopped.
I have replaced the preferences, but still no change.
I read that it might be related to my font management software, "Suitcase Fusion", so I updated that, but still no change.
Then I read it might be b/c I am running 2 monitors from a video card that may not be able to handle it, so I tried using one monitor only, but still crashing.
I am reluctant to spend $ on s new computer for a better video card if I am not sure it will solve the problem.
Here is a link to 2 crash reports (the 2nd one starts on pg 22 of the PDF):
    www.chesterandhound.com/download.html
Below are screen pix of my computer info (I do have a second monitor hooked up -- not sure if info below shows that).
ANY HELP or advice would be MOST appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Katie

    Preran,
I haven't crashed now in almost a week! You have no idea how wonderful this is!
Thank you SO MUCH for your help!
Given that I just downloaded my Mountain Lion directly from the Adobe site, why wouldn't that version have included this patch?
It never occurred to me that a freshly downloaded versoin might still need to be updated.
    Thank you again.
I wish I had asked for help much earlier -- when I was strugglng with this problem in 10.6.8.
    -Katie

  • Osx 10.8.1 mountain lion crash

I have a unibody macbook (2009 or 2010) that I upgraded to Mountain Lion and now it crashes frequently. I can be running the web browser or something more demanding but when I close my laptop and walk away my problems occur. It seems that the crash is occuring only after I move the computer. I can't do a fresh install because this is a school computer (i'm a computer proctor at an elementary school) and it's attached to an Active Directory system for backups. Please help.

No I have not tried that. Anything is worth a try my computer is consistently crashing at least 10 times a day now. I grabbed my last crash report if this makes sense to anyone....

  • Pages (4.1, on Lion) crashes every time

My Pages (4.1, on Lion) crashes/freezes every time I want to save a file, print a file and often even when I open a file. It used to work very good but since a couple of weeks it crashes more and more, up to a point that I can't practically use it any more due to the frequent freezes. A freeze will take several minutes until I force stop it. I can save new files but when I open an existing file and try to save changes it stalls.
I tried fixing some fonts (some errors were reported there) but this didn't help, I tried to find some plint files but couldn't find any.
I only have Pages of all iWork programmes, I downloaded it from the App store.
    What can I do?

I'm puzzled by this sentence :
    ArieHJW wrote:

As far as I know, you have nothing to do to save an existing file. Closing it will save automatically.
I'm afraid that you press cmd + S which is a really bad practice.
Doing that, you force the system to save a copy in the Versions dedicated area and, as doing that will flag the document as modified, the app will autosave it immediately after. The result is that you will double the time required by the correct scheme.
If your HD has a huge free space, pressing cmd + S as we had to do in pre Lion systems stores numerous different versions in the dedicated Versions area. When you will re-open the document, the app will not only open the 'standard file' but it will, at least, navigate in the Versions area to build a pointer to the versions related to the doc in progress. I guess that it's why the Versions tool default to the setting : keep a version every hour.

  • Yosemite OSX crashes frequently

i just upgraded to Yosemite OS and it crashes frequently showing the screen of death with white background and many languages text.
This happens in different actions :
    when i plug hard disk
unplug a hard disk (knowing that i eject it safely)
    waking up the laptop
    switching between spaces
    connecting Android device
sometimes i crashes suddenly without any specific action
    Device information:
    Last update : Yosemite OS X 10.10.1
    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010)
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB
Any advice how to fix this or why it happens?
knowing that the OS X Mountain lion & OS X mavericks never crashed.

    Hi RV,
The famous 2010 MBP with that discrete Graphic Chipset. I have one of those as well, and if I want to test compatibility, I test it on that, not on one of the other Macs. If it runs on this, chances are better than 80% that it will run on the others.
Firstly you have to ensure that you have Backups. That means more than one very recently, made with different backup methodologies or programs like Carbon Copy Cloner, Time Machine or Super Duper.
Secondly, you have to ensure that your Mac is clean. And I mean very, very clean from crapware and malware. You can follow the manual steps as outlined here, or follow the AdwareMedic route. Thomas_r has written some very nice stuff on his site The Safe Mac which you can read. Follow the instructions specific to your Mac.
Thirdly, there is a nice utility which you can use to have some view/control over the automatic switching for your Mac, called gfxCardStatus. In another post I will deal with what is happening, in Engineering terms if you are interested. More important is a solution, or interim solution.
    Have fun
    Leo

  • Logic 9.1.8 & Mainstage 2 - crashing frequently/audio issues

I have just uprgraded to this set up (though using the same sound card as I did on my Mac Book with Logic 8 & Snow Leopard prevously) - in order to avoid overloading which was happening on my previousl set up.. only to find that this new system seems very buggy - crashes frequently on Logic  (Sudden Motion Sensor error - have disabled that now) and Main Stage freezes. Then a wierd echoey sound can happen - whereby any audio is echoed back from DAW, in Logic AND Mainstage.
I have down loaded two plug-ins/VST's since starting to use this new set up - an XILS Lab L.E. verision and a Crystal synth. I've downloaded the up to date Duet drivers from Apogee. (I have an Duet 1.5 that I used with my old set).
Have looked at the Console system log to try and understand what might be happening - it is FULL of text on occasions when Logic crashes  - I am not tech savvy enough to unpick it though.
If anyone has any suggestions to help I would be grateful, thanks.
I do wonder if it is a Core audio issue though - given the echoiing that seems to occur...

IPad 1 Safari crashes frequently. I went to many Apple stores in different countries and each Apple staff member had their own different opinions with no help. I had upgraded my iOS to 5.1.1 and the Safari crashing started about one year after the upgrade and some Apple staff blame this- but this started one year later after the iOS upgrade. Recently at the Apple Store in Vancouver an Apple staff reset my computer (erased everything and sent to iCloud to reset the iPad) and I hoped this would fix the problem. IPad Safari still crashes. Short of booking an appointment for taking it for repair to Apple technicians which will cost me money can anyone help me to fix this Safari crashing.

    Hi,
You might have a 3rd party plugin that isn't compatible with Safari 4.0.4. Go here for help...
Safari add-ons can cause performance issues or other situations
If you are using a USB hub, try disconnecting and restarting with just your keyboard and mouse connected.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Mac OS: Web Browser Quits Unexpectedly or Stops Responding
Also, you could download and install the 10.5.8 combo update (PowerPC) available here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
It contains fixes that might help. Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Flashback - Detect and remove the uprising Mac OS X Trojan...
    http://www.mac-and-i.net/2012/04/flashback-detect-and-remove-uprising.html
In order to avoid detection, the installer will first look for the presence of some antivirus tools and other utilities that might be present on a power user's system, which according to F-Secure include the following:
    /Library/Little Snitch
    /Developer/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode
    /Applications/VirusBarrier X6.app
    /Applications/iAntiVirus/iAntiVirus.app
    /Applications/avast!.app
    /Applications/ClamXav.app
    /Applications/HTTPScoop.app
    /Applications/Packet Peeper.app
If these tools are found, then the malware deletes itself in an attempt to prevent detection by those who have the means and capability to do so. Many malware programs use this behavior, as was seen in others such as the Tsunami malware bot.

I have read about this issue and have tried clearing user preferences, disabling live preflight, running adobe updates, and I have done a complete uninstall, run the CC cleaner tool, and reinstalled CS6 Design Standard. The issue still persists.
Some more insight or suggestions for a solution would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Try updating to the latest version of IDCS6 which should be 8.0.2.
