Anyone know if this is software or hardware based? I can appreciate that bugs happen, but if this is my hardware failing I'll be taking a trip to the Apple Store ;-)
I am having Kernel Panics as well.
According the report, THIS is the common problem I am seeing:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace:
com.apple.driver.AirPort.Atheros40(500.55.5)[01000ACB-C064-3F42-820F-BDE2008267 25]@0xffffff7f80eeb000->0xffffff7f8102afff
Notice keywords: AirPort.Atheros40(500.55.5).
If you check everyones errors, most are everyone who has upgraded to Lion and it relates to AirPort.
I called AppleCare Support & my local mac store and they say run the disc that comes with the iMac and it will check the hardware and see if there is any faults with AirPort as it appears to be.
They also suggested a reinstall (but that is pointless if you having this issue and want to use WiFi, so if you plug it in and/or tether with your iPhones *like I am doing now haha* then you should be fine to reinstall Lion and hopefully not have that issue.).
I am going to reinstall Lion and see if I have the issue. I was going on 4 days of enjoying Lion problem free up until yesterday when I started having Kernel Panics. It's isolated down to the WiFi.
Only solution at this point is to take it in or reinstall Lion and see if it resolves the issue.

Anyone come across similar or able to offer advice? Is it software or hardware?I am having Kernel Panics as well.
According the report, THIS is the common problem I am seeing:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace:
com.apple.driver.AirPort.Atheros40(500.55.5)[01000ACB-C064-3F42-820F-BDE2008267 25]@0xffffff7f80eeb000->0xffffff7f8102afff
MacBook Pro crashes with kernel errors
Hi, i'm havinge troubles with my 2009. macbook pro. It keeps crashing down with kernel errors.
I took it to apple, payed for a repair and they didn't fix it. Now i don't know what to do. I recently noticed that my right fan isnt working.
I'm leaving you with one of my error reports if you know how to read them.
Btw, hardware test simple and extended one reports ok. Disk warrior also. Could it be the temperature? Last time it crashet it was at about 76 celsius...crashes are not time reliable, sometimes i just turn it on and it crashes while loading os (its not yet hot), sometimes it can work for an hour or two then die again...

If you can't hear the fans running fast then I suggest you run the hardware tests from your install DVD (insert and reboot holding down d) to see if it shows any SNS (sensor) or MTR (fan motor) errors, if so get it to Apple for a fix. -
New IMac is crashing randomly because of "Panic Kernel Error." Now IMac startup disk is not visible and will not mount. What the story with this machine. Running 10.6.7
Almost certainly, some sort of hardware problem on your logic board.
Make an appointment and take it to your local Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ -
I am not sure why but when I run safari my iMac running Lion crashes. I get that gray screen that roles down the screen and it tells me the computer is going to restart. I thought at first it was flash. The crash report didn't mention flash but it happens the most when play a video. But now I have notesed Safari will crash my computer playing flash, html5, and silverlight. Four or five time it has crashed while just running the browser even if I am doing something else. I am not that good at crash reports but I read something about my com.apple.driver.airport and involves a kernel crash. I have not had really any problems with my wifi but I have read others have with Lion. I started a new discussion because my problem doesn't sound like the black screens every one else has been getting. There crash reports sound like it has something to do with there NVIDIA cards. I have the most recent update of lion and I am getting the same amount of crashes has I got when I first installed it. My specs are
Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1 (11B26)
My 27 inch iMac was the late 2009 model and I bought it in early 2010
Her is a copy of my crash report. All 30 of them are all the same.

MBP unexpectedly crashes with black screen, but still appears to be on?
Hi. I'm on my second MBP -- had to return the first one after a series of kernel panics, including during Software Update immediately following an erase and restore (a problem described in at least one other post). After using the Migration Assistant on this brand new second machine, I experienced a problem I've never encountered before: I'd be doing something random and non-taxing, like listening to iTunes, browsing with Safari, etc., when suddenly the screen would go black, as if the computer had shut down on its own...but the MBP still seemed to be on, as indicated by the light on the clasp button. When I'd hold down the power button, the computer would actually shut down, and then I could restart it. Sometimes I could restart it right away, but two other times I literally had to keep pressing the button down over and over until finally it would start up.
Well, I assumed this had something to do with the Migration Assistant, and I knew the AppleCare guys and gals would just recommend the erase and restore method, so I did it, without transferring any files. That was two nights ago. I used the computer all of yesterday with only the default apps, and everything was fine. Then this afternoon, I transferred just some data -- photos, mp3s -- but no apps. Everything still seemed fine, except for iPhoto crashing...but okay, I was importing about 2000 pictures.
I was just about to breathe a sigh of relief and move on to the next step, downloading/reinstalling the various non-Apple apps I use, when BAM -- ironically, I had just clicked on the MacBook Pro link on the main Apple Discussions page, when the screen went black and I had to restart the computer.
Does my problem sound familiar to anyone? Has anyone experienced it, or does it at least sound familiar as a symptom of a particular source problem? The AppleCare techies say not, but I've gotten the sense from reading this board just for a few minutes that they're not always the most straightforward about these problems, which, although understandable as a company, is obviously extremely unhelpful to those of us with problems.
Anyway, any advice or suggstions would certainly be appreciated. If this keeps happening, I'll have to return this MBP for a third one, and as someone who's both been an Apple user for about twelve years, and worked for Apple for about four (as both an original employee at the Apple Store SoHo and a campus rep for my school), that'd be a huge disappointment.
Thanks guys!
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.6) 2 GHz, 1 gig RAM, 100 gig HDhi,
is there anything that is covering around the ear speaker??
if so try and remove it...
i don't think u need the screen on to perform a restore!! everything u do is on the computer... -
Mac Os X Lion Crashes after resuming from Sleep
Hi Everybody, i'm experiencing an issue on my 13'' MBP Early 2011 (i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 750GB HD SATA). My MBP often got stuc after i resume from my monitor sleep. I'll explain it in a better way: After i resume from sleep, there's at first a black screen in which the mouse can move, after that the mouse becmes the classic loading wheel and it freezes copletely, remaining in this situation. I thought it was a screensaver compatibility issue, but the problem stand still after i uninstalled screensaver and deactivate the screensaver options. I think it's a problem with Lion with the HD, but i have no evidence of it. Can Anyone help?
Thank you in advance,
Daniele.Whenever someone comes to me with crashing and freezing on waking up I look at 3 things and typically in this order:
(1) Hard drive - usually if it is the hard drive SMART has already given a warning if the drive is actually failing or running Disk Utility reveals problems - often problems that cannot be fixed. Also, when the crashes are related to the hard drive there may actuallly be nothing wrong with the drive and a simple erase and reinstall will fix it.
(2) Software issues - the old trick of creating a new account and logging into it to see if the problem is in your account or global helps. Looking in console to see if there's an error message logged just before the crash can be instructive - or not. Often the crash occurs before an error is logged. Sometimes reinstalling the OS is the solution - that's where having a FireWire hard drive is helpful. I can just boot with it and see if the computer still crashes on waking. If not I know to reinstall the OS.
(3) RAM - marginal and faulty RAM can be the culprit in many cases. The frustrating thing about RAM is that RAM tests seldom give false positives, if the test says you have bad RAM, you do. Unfortunately when the test reveals nothing wrong the RAM might still be defective, just not enough for the test to catch.
However, past history has led me to put RAM at the top of the list after an OS upgrade. Marginal RAM has been the culprit of many crash on wake problems with previous OS upgrades. I especially recall Leopard and Snow Leopard being affected - at the shop where I sometimes work we did a lot of RAM warranty replacements after those two upgrades. And here at the support forum we saw lots of people complaining of crash on wake problems coming back and saying, "Yep, got my RAM replaced and all is well." So if any of you are like me and upgraded your RAM, if you have the original RAM sitting around swap it in and see if the crashes stop. -
QuickTime X on Lion crashes on opening movie files
Hi — am running OS X 10.7.3 on a 2010 MacBook Air, and have discovered that QuickTime (10.1) will not open movie files (tested with .mov and .m4v so far).
The error includes this line:
Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: '-[NSViewController loadView] could not load the "MGPlayerDocumentView" nib.'
And upon trying again I get the message:
The application “QuickTime Player” unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its windows.
Any suggestions on fixing this? The files open fine in iTunes and VLC, but QuickTime crashes every time. In earlier days I'd have reinstalled it, but with the download of Lion that doesn't seem to be an option (no installer files available).Ah well. Resorted to reinstalling Lion from the recovery partition, and that seems to have fixed it.

OK. Have an iMac 27" 5 months old loaded. Did everything but kept getting kernel errors. First trip to Apple store they replaced the logic board but it kept happening. Second trip they replaced the hard drive and had to reinstall everything. Now the 3rd trip and the Apple tech is saying that it's a software issue. However when I got the iMac back I did not load my old software I resinstalled everything as new and did not install all my apps. He is now going to replace the RAM. In addition to kernel issues I could not copy folder to my external hard drive because of -50 errors and when I tried to shut down the Mac got the small black box that says something is wrong and need to restart. My question is as what point in time can I request a new machine and what happens if the tech continues to insist it's a software issue ?
This happened to me and I just got it fixed. A couple weeks ago, I ordered a refurb 21.5'' model. I got it and almost immediately experienced kernel panics to the point where I was seriously considering sending it back and using the money for a PC (yeah, it was that bad). Turns out it wasn't my computer neceessarily, but my wireless router. I was told that my 5 year old linksys router was conflicting with the way Mac OS X Lion communicates through wi-fi. Apparently, what Apple did with Lion was optimize it for new router technologies. However, in doing so, it seems they've caused compatibility issues with older cisco routers. I was told to update the router. About 5 minutes after doing so, it died (just my luck.) Went to the store and picked up a netgear brand one, and I haven't had one problem yet. It's been 4 days, and no kernel panic. Try to update your router, if you feel comfortable doing so. That may be the problem. Another solution would be to turn wi-fi off and just use ethernet until you can either get a new router or until Apple releases a fix.

Hi,
I have just had Mountain Lion crash, and not for the first time in the last few weeks. Neither the keyboard or trackpad were responding so I had to do a hard reset.
There was no crash report, but I have copied the following from the console report, there are a few recurring errors, but can anyone suggest what may have gone wrong?
Thks
Russ

I think these were the last messages before I rebooted. The Mac froze just as I was opening an incoming mail (ironically it was from Apple Support re another issue). The only programmes I had open were iTunes, Mail and Print programme.
The only devices connected were the wired keyboard and printer and NAS connected through network.
It initially crashed around 7.40pm, but I didn't reboot until around 20:20 after dinner. I have posted some of the messages around the time of reboot (immediately below) and other messages further down when it crashed around 19.40
All help gratefully received.

After upgrade to OSX Mavericks my 2009 MBP keeps crashing due to kernel panic (happens every 20 minutes or so). Please help me with this, it's getting very frustrating. Have tried disk utility, there were errors (file system was corrupted), the disk utility managed to repair the disk but the crashes continue.

0 B Page-outsHi, thanks for the reply. I deleted some of the old stuff that showed up on the report (have removed virtual box long ago but some residual files were apparently left). It didn't help though. Will remove forticlient too as a test.
Meanwhile here's the new etre-check and crash report:

I've been unable to use iTunes for over 3 weeks now.
Initially, it would prompt me to Sign In with my Apple ID and password each time it tried to start, and when I clicked Sign In, it'd respond with variations of:
"Your device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assistance."
or
De-authorize/Authorize.
Frustrated, I'd click Cancel, and it'd crash with:
"An unknown error occurred (-1008)."
or
"An unknown error occurred (-50)."
More recently, I don't even get the Sign In prompt any more. iTunes now just crashes immediately with unknown error (-50) as soon as it tries to start.
It is clear that this issue has more to do with the Apple ID than with iTunes specifically, because some of the apps I purchased directly from the App Store (OmniFocus, Fantastical and Forismatic) now prompt me to Sign In with my Apple ID and password each time they try to start, and they never did before. And when I try to sign, they respond with the error:
"Your device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assistance."
Apparently, this is an issue a whole lot of people are experiencing, judging by the long list of Google search returns on the subject; but I'm yet to find a definitive, "official" Apple solution to the problem.
My Apple ID is the same as it's always been.
If anyone knows what's really causing this and/or can offer a fix, please H-E-E-E-L-P? I'll even pay to make it go away. I abandoned Windows after 26 years, only to discover that no platform is spared the blackhole of unknown errors.

Welcome to Apple discussions
My first iBook suffered from persistent KPs on start up. Eventually I resolved the issue by cleaning the cache files. There are a number of cheap/free share ware apps. My favourite is Tiger (or Leopard) Cache Cleaner from here: http://www.northernsoftworks.com/
For more general info on resolving KPs, try here: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
Good luck
Bob -
Post Ehp7 upgrade we are facing issue when executing any db related tcodes.
Eg:
When executing DB02 we are getting the below error message and the workprocess are getting restarted.
XXX: SAP System Message:
Work process restarted; session terminated
In ST22 we are getting the below dump:
Category Internal Kernel Error
Runtime Errors SYSTEM_CORE_DUMPED
Date and Time 04/14/2014 23:59:21
Short Text
Process terminated by signal " ".
What happened?
Error in the SAP kernel

The current ABAP program "CL_GUI_HTML_VIEWER============CP" had to be
terminated because the ABAP
processor detected a system error.
What can you do?
Note which actions and entries caused the error to occur.

Consult your SAP administrator.

Using transaction ST22 for ABAP dump analysis, you can view, manage,
and retain termination messages for longer periods.
Error analysis
A process in the SAP system has been terminated by a signal in the
operating system.

Possible causes are:
1) An internal error in the SAP system
2) Process terminated externally (by the system administrator) with a
signal.
Last error logged in SAP kernel

How to correct the error
The SAP system work directory (/usr/sap/c11/D00/work for example) often
contains a file called 'core'.

Save this file under another name.
If you cannot solve the problem yourself, please send the following
information to SAP:

1. This description of the problem (short dump)
To do this, choose System -> List -> Save -> Local File (unconverted)
on the screen you are in now.

2. A suitable system log
To do this, call the system log in transaction SM21. Restrict the time
interval to ten minutes before the short dump and five minutes after
it. In the display, choose System -> List -> Save -> Local File
(unconverted).

3. If these are programs of your own, or modified SAP programs: Source
code of these programs
To do this, choose More Utilities -> Upload/Download -> Download in
the Editor.

4. Details regarding the conditions under which the error occurred or
which actions and input caused the error.

Hi I was on my windows side of my mac when i got the blue-screen-of-death with something saying Critical Kernel Error, weird noises from the speakers and the macbook pro did a hard shut off.
Since then I can no longer boot into the mac or windows side (both are stuck infinitely loading). I ran disk utility on the mac side and I have an "Invalid Node Structure." Which disk utility cannot repair. I do have DiskWarrior on another mac to try and rebuild the mac partition through a firewire connection - i think that is the correct course of action ?
But does this mean my windows partition is likely gone or any idea what went on ? As I am terribly confused that while on my windows side I had an error that messsed up both partitions.
Or what to check for so this hopefully doesnt happen again if it is a hardware problem? My drive smart status is listed as "OK" and I cant seem to run the Apple Hardware test as upon attempting to get into it the laptop just shuts off while loading it, although I read somewhere the Apple Hardware test is no longer preloaded on macbook pros.
The system in question is a 15" macbook pro bought around July 2011.
Thank you,
WesAlright I have both my mac side and windows side repaired and functioning fine. Should I still be concerned ? Linc I know you are saying this is a drive malfunction but is there a way I can be sure ? I still cannot run AHT (restart, hold down D), and my laptop shipped with Lion installed so I believe it should run. It just boots into the mac side when I hold D..
