Lion doesn't see my new wired keyboard.

Have just installed 10.7 and updated it, since the keyboard "Getting Started" told me it needed 10.7 for optimum performance.  The OS is simply not recognizing the new keyboard and shows a bluetooth set up window instead that is searching for a wireless keyboard.  I had run software updates and did so again after I restarted, all without effect.

Finding the same problem, myself. But I am running 10.6.7. F keys aren't mapping correctly.
This thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16206425#16206425 says it wants an update to 10.6.8 to get it working, which I will do as soon as I get a chance to install a larger hard drive in my Mini. Hope it works.
Can't say why you would be experiencing it in Lion, though. May be some faulty keyboards floating around?

  • Using new wired keyboard (w/o numeric keypad) with Windows Vista

I have a 2008 Mac Pro and a Windows PC. They share the same monitor, keyboard and mouse via a KVM switch (I use the Belkin Flip DVI-D KVM Switch, model F1DG102D). My keyboard is the Apple wired keyboard with numeric keypad, which works fine with my Windows Vista PC, even with no Apple-specific Windows driver installed. My keyboard tray is pretty small, so I would like to get the new Apple wired keyboard which doesn't have a numeric keypad. I don't need the numeric keypad anyway. However, I will miss the home, end, page up, page down, and forward delete buttons. The Mac Pro has a way of simulating these keys. However, the key combinations to simulate these keys don't work in Windows Vista. My question is: how do I simulate these keys from Windows Vista? My guess is that possible options are:
    1. Use some Vista keyboard mapping software. If so, any idea what might work?
    OR
    2. Use Apple's keyboard driver for Windows Vista (32-bit). The keyboard comes with boot camp, but I don't use boot camp (since I have a separate Windows PC). How do I go about getting a standalone Apple keyboard driver without having to install boot camp?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi randman.
I have a similar problem but it seems there is no solution. The new wired keyboard is not event working properly with BOOTCAMP. Vista doesn't recognize the keyboard as Apple keyboard and even forcing the device manager to use the Apple keyboard driver is not working.

  • Function keys on new wired keyboard for old iMac don't workdon't work

Apple replaced my original wired keyboard when keys had stopped working, but with the new wired keyboard the function keys don't work as the symbols on them indicate.  My concern is F10-F12 which are supposed to control volume.  F10 shows all open windows; F11 romoves open windowns from screen; F12 shows ttime, date, temperature, etc, like the top button on the mouse.  I have tried suggested ways to fix this through System Preferences, Keyboard/Mouse but none works.
Can anyone solve this problem for me?

I have the exact same problem.  My old keyboard unfortunately died after spilling fluid onto it.
I purchased the same keyboard today.
Everything works with it except I have the same problem as described here:  "

  • HT4773 Need a driver for the new wired keyboard on OSX 10.6.7

I use Snow Leopard 10.6.7 with new wired keyboard. Some keys does not work, ex. volume keys.
Any driver, kext or keyboard layout?

I don't think that will do the trick, at least not by itself, if the post date is anything to go by (2007).
The specs for the latest Apple Extended keyboard clearly say it requires 10.6.8, so the answer is to run the 10.6.8 combo.

  • Mail.app (v5.0) in Lion doesn't see my IMAP folders

Pulling out my hair on this one. I have a fresh, clean install of Lion running. I setup Mail.app to work with my IMAP server (dovecot-1.0.7-7.el5_7.1 on CentOS release 5.7, using Maildir for all folders, including the 'INBOX').
It connects fine and has full read/write access to my INBOX, and can send via my SMTP server. But my "other" IMAP mailboxes do not show up.
They show up fine in Snow Leopard (v4.5 (1084)), on my iPhone 4S (iOS 5.0.1 (9A405)), on my first-gen iPad (iOS 4.3.3 (8J3)), in Outlook (v14.1.3 (110805)), using SquirrelMail... It's only the new Mail.app that doesn't 'see' the mailboxes.
If I use the Mailbox -> New Mailbox... menu item to try to manually add/create an existing IMAP mailbox, I get a dialog box: "The mailbox "<name of mailbox>" could not be created. The mailbox "<name of mailbox>" already exists."
If I use the same menu command to create a new mailbox, it's created successfully, and shows up under the server's entry in the left-most pane.
    So frustrating.
Am I missing something obvious? Or arcane?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hey, thanx for your reply.
I have already sent to wd support and the answer which i took back is that:
"Therefore drive itself is fine and issue can be related to your operation system which do not mount the drive properly. If it is possible, please check system updates to be sure that issue is not caused by the OS bug and contact Apple support in this matter to check the problem with them."

  • Volume control on new Wired keyboard?

Hello! I use to have the old short wired keyboard but my cat spilt water on it and half they keys stopped working so we finally got a new one.
When I plugged it in I noticed IMMEDIANTLY the F keys at the top were off and not in the right place, I was able to fix most through System Preferences> Keyboard and mouse< keyboard and changing the hot keys to the right onces BUT I could not figure out how to fix F7-F12 as the volume controls
I looked at many other questions simular and I know one said hey download from http://support.apple.com/downloads/#Keyboard%20update But none of those worked they said can't find your keyboard! and I know someone said try using a program named Spark but after I made the new hotkeys they like.. They didn't work either...
Does anyone know how to fix this? It's a keyboard with numeric keypad and wired NOT wireless.

Boy, they sure have turned Function keys into Rocket Science.
Do you have an Apple Store nearby that'd test the KB on their Macs to be sure it isn't defective?
Supposedly the Fn key combo is supposed to work...

  • ITunes doesn't see my new iPhone

This is wierd- when I connect my new iPhone to my PowerbookG4, iPhoto pops up. But not iTunes.
The iTunes page doesn't see iPhone is connected. So I can't sync. I believe it could be my operating system is outdated. I've tried to download updated OS, but message I get after download is 'this system can't be loaded on your computer" or something like that. I have been able to download the latest iTunes software, so that's not the problem. I was able to initially activate the iPhone on my newer desktop iMac at home... which has 10.4.whatever. But lots of my stuff is on this older G4.

    Kurt,
If your PowerBook G4 is running an OS that is older than 10.4 as well as an older version of iTunes, chances are, you're not going to be able to make the iPhone sync with iTunes. My advice would be to copy your songs and information to a thumb drive/CD/DVD/external hard drive and put them onto your home iMac. Since the phone obviously works with this machine, it may be your only choice.
Sorry that I couldn't be of better assistance.

  • New wired keyboard, swapped key functionality?

    hi -
I just replaced my keyboard for my iMac Intel Core Duo 10.6.8, 2GHz with the standard wired one. The aluminum keyboard is v 0.74, Apple made. The orignal died.
I used a Dell board for a bit, and used Sys Prefs > Keyboard to swap the OPT & CMD keys. Now I have a new wired Apple keyboard, and the system won't recognize it as an Apple board, and the OPT / CMD keys will not return to heir original roles.
    I did these things:
    1) sys prefs: reset default for keyboard command keys
    2) sys prefs: swapped OPT & CMD key functions, didn't respond.
    3) repaired disk permissions
I don't know what to toss as preferences that will influence the keyboard.
    Any suggestions, please?
    thanks.

thanks, but it didn't change anything.
I've also tried restarting after removing the system preference .plist as well as the keyboard layout .plist. Neither of these worked.
I tried swapping out the keyboard and mouse with a friend's and that did not change anything.
I've updated all OS software and repaired all permissions using Disk Utility.
Perhaps something is creating a conflict, but I haven't a clue as to what at this point.

  • AirPort doesn't see my new wireless router

I have a new router, and it works perfectly well via Ethernet, but it also has a wireless aerial, so I wanted to use it wireless, but Airport doesn't see any WLAN (AirPort IS active). What should I do? Any idea?
    Thanks
    Silvia

The router does broadcast the network name.
My Airport card is AirPort Extreme, universal, version 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p18), and the router is 802.11g 54Mbps
It's an EU Powerbook and an EU router.
I have gone to the router's setup page but I really don't know what to do. There is an auto-setup function for the wireless but it didn't work. I didn't see anything about the wireless being allowed to join the network or not.

  • New Wired Keyboard USB 2.0 underpowered.

I recently bought one of Apples alluminum wired keyboards, i dont have any troubles with it at all other than the usb 2.0 ports on the side. I attempted to plug my USB key into the port and an error message came up saying that the port is underpowered and that i should plug in my usb key to a power sorce, though it cleary has no wa of doing so. I tried the other side of the keyboard and recived the same error messge, any ideas? I do have a bunch of things plugged into my computer though hardley any of them were in use and all are self powered.

I am at work right now where I am working on a dual 2GHz PowerPC G5, connected to a 20" apple cinema display. I have my plastic (white) apple USB keyborad connected through the displays powered USB ports, when I try to connect my flash drive to the keyboards ports it gives me the low voltage warning. However if I plug the same flash drive into the back of the display it works flawlessly. FOr this reason I would assume that your keyboard, just doesnt carry eough juice to power the flash drive, a solution to this would be to purchase yourself a self powered usb 2.0 hub and connect this to the keyboards usb port, or to the computer itself.

  • HT4773 I have upgraded to Lion and I have a new Apple keyboard, however none of my function keys work correctly. Any idea what is the solution?

I have upgraded to Lion and have a new keyboard. The problem I have is that the function keys are not working correctly - none of them. F1 -> F6 are not working at all and F7 - F12  do what F1 etc are supposed to do. Any ideas for a solution?
    Thanks in advance

That message is telling you to update iTunes on your computer, not your phone. You need iTunes 11.1 on your computer in order to sync your devices.

  • Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) doesn't see HP1200 Printer over network

Hopefully somebody can shed some light here -- I have an HP LaserJet 1200 on my ethernet LAN. Have never had any problems setting it up to print using earlier versions of Mac OS or ever Windows -- however as fas as Mountain Lion is concerned the printer doesn't exist. I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers from HP, restarted machine, etc to no avail. Can anybody tell me what I need to do to make 10.8 see the printer across the room?

    mikehenden wrote:
Yes, XP box will print with no problems. The 'Properties' index was where I got the IP address from. Have looked at the 'ports' tab, have a port number and see that the protocol is 'Raw'. SNMP status is enabled and SNMP devide index is 1. Does this mean anything to you?
Yes it does. XP is using RAW Port 9100 to connect, which is called HP Jetdirect-Socket on OS X. Given that you have already tried creating a printer queue using HP Jetdirect and this did not work, there must be something else that you need to do.
It also sounds odd that the configuration page you printed does not show an IP address set in the printer. Does the Ethernet cable connect directly to the LJ1200, or is there some type of adaptor between the Ethernet and printer?

  • G4 doesn't see the new hard drive I just installed

I figure I've probably done something elementary stupid... hope someone will straighten me out.
Following recommendations from the forum from about a year ago, I finally bought a Seagate 7200 120gb SATA drive, SeriTek/IS2 Host Card, and "Y" splitter cable.
I put it all together as seemed to make sense -- Using the "Y" cable to connect the drive to power (4-pin connector marked P2) (this leave one power connection left over on the "Y" cable), SeriTek Card in PCI slot, and SATA cable connecting the Card to the new drive.
System Profile and Disk Utility do not see either the Card or the Drive. I tried the SeriTek Card in a different PCI slot and re-checked all the connections -- still no hard drive. The new hard drive is getting power, as I can hear it spinning up.
Did I connect things right? Or do I have two dead PCI slots? Is there some other thing I need to do to get my system to recognize the SeriTek card and Hard Drive.)
Help much appreciated! I'm a tech newbie...
    Dual 500 G4 Ethernet 20gb HD 756mb RAM Radeon 8500

I ran permissions repair -- which returned an error -- disk utility lost connection with disk manager utility or somesuch. Disk repair didn't fix that. So now I have a new problem.
I talked to tech support at FirmTek and they think it's slimly possible that I zapped the card with static as I took it out of the wrap, or otherwise managed to damage it. They've asked me to test it in a different machine (if I can find a friend who has one that is similarly set up.) If the problem is with the card, they assure me they'll replace it, no problem. Or, I might have two bad PCI slots -- either possibility is unlikely -- but these seem to be the remaining explanations.
Thanks for your assistance and wish me luck!
