Lion download and icloud

If you download the new lion update on mutliple macs with the same account, will icloud connect the two macs? Will the pictures and so be shared? If so, is there a way to prevent that?

You can also set up different iCloud accounts for each Mac, independent of your AppleID that you used to download Lion.  iCloud System Preferences.

  • Migration guidelines to goto Lion, iOS5 and iCloud

    hello
    I'm using a MacBook Pro ( running OSX 10.6.8 ) an iPhone4 ( iOS 4.3.5 ) and an iPad2 ( iOS 4.3.5 )
all three sync email ( mutilple pop accounts ), calendar and contacts using MobileMe - all works fine
now I would like to goto Lion, iOS5 and iCloud
    are there any migration guidelines
    - should I update the OS's and will iCould take over the email settings from MobileMe ?
    - should I start with migrating MobileMe to iCloud ?
is there any up-to-date documentation ?
    thx in advance
    Henny

You can purchase and download Lion from the App Store. You can upgrade your iDevices by first downloading and installing the iTunes 10.5 upgrade. As for transitioning from MobileMe to iCloud see:
Frequently asked questions about the MobileMe transition and iCloud

    MobileMe- About moving to iCloud.webloc
    To upgrade to Lion:
How to Install Lion Successfully - You must have Snow Leopard 10.6.7 or 10.6.8 Installed
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.3.) if DW cannot fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall Snow Leopard.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the backup volume. Source means the internal startup volume.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade to Lion:
Purchase the Lion Installer from the Mac App Store. The download will start quickly. Lion is nearly 4 GBs so a fast internet connection is essential. Download time could run upwards of 4 hours depending upon network conditions and server demands at the time.
Boot From The Lion Installer which is located in your Applications folder.
    Follow instructions for installation.

  • I have Mac pro from 2010 and am hesitant to download Lion OX and icloud, any thoughts?

I am interested in downloading Lion and icloud but have read some horror stories, whats the story out there? How difficult is it?

If you go only by what's on this site, you'd be crazy to use any Apple product.
Migrating to Lion can be either effortless or nightmarishly difficult, depending on how well you prepare. The preparation consists of checking your third-party software for compatibility.
Almost all self-contained applications should be fine, unless they are PowerPC-only, in which case they will never work under Lion. You can determine which of your applications are PPC-only by looking under Software in System Profiler. Do this before you migrate, so you won't join the ranks of those bleating for help in these forums with a downgrade to SL.
System modifications, by which I mean any software that does not install merely by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder or download from the Mac App Store, are much more problematic. You should assume that system modifications will not work under Lion unless the developer says otherwise. Some will, some won't.
It's a very good idea to clone your system to another storage device, install Lion onto that, and test thoroughly. That way, if you don't like Lion, all you have to do is reboot. If you don't go that route, then obviously you must back up your data right before installing Lion so that you can revert immediately.

  • Lion Download and Now Damaged Computer

I added RAM memory to my MacBook Pro in order to download and install Lion.  I did so and now have a computer that does not work.  Has anyone had any luck getting a refund on Lion and consideration for a damaged Apple computer?

Thank you for the fast response.
He was able to get into Disk Utility with the Command and R keys, but when he tried verifying the disk, in red it said 'Invalid Node Structure, volume could not be verified completely'.
He went ahead and verified it anyway, then proceeded to repair it.  Howver, it stopped repairing, said it cannot repair, and that he should back up files and reformat the disk.
How can he back up his files?  He cannot see a way to do it.  Is there anything else he can do besides having to reformat the disk?
This is his first Mac (after much prompting from me to go Mac), and he's afraid he's now lost everything on there.

  • How to change user and keep downloads and icloud.

Since i bought my first Mac in 2009 i have created an account on my son´s email in order to download apps for him in the future but keep it under my management
After that, i have also bought an Iphone and Ipad..
Nowadays, my son uses the ipad but everytime he downloads a game it updates my iphone and people who want to find me with face time finds his name and not mine.
What i need to know how to do it is how to create an account for me (Iphone and Mac book pro) but keep some of things i have already bought exclusively for me (Best example is Mac Os).
Also, I have Icloud set up under his account and in case i change i dont want to miss all the info.
    Many thanks in advance.

Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. So the content you have acquired, whether for you or for him, will forever be associated with this Apple ID. There is no way to seperate it apart.

  • New Lion MBP and iCloud

Looking for a bit of advice. I am getting a new MBP 15 due to arrive from China next Tuesday and was wondering about the iCloud setup. Still using MobileMe, but should I "migrate" to the iCloud on my old PowerBook with the limitations prior to setting up the new MacBook Pro or does the setup assistant under Lion accomplish the move from MobileMe to the iCloud?
Thanks in advance for any advice and comments.

    Thanks Stevejobsfan and Kappy.
Is there any problem with keeping "@mac.com" email doing it during setup? I thought that I read as long as the user signed up prior to "@me.com" addressing that the iCloud id will be able to use "@mac.com" if you used the mobileme.com/move transition. So, just want to confirm that I can keep the "@mac.com" since I have been using it since the days of iTools.

  • Lion Mail and iCloud Password

Alright, I've seen tons of threads all over forums for this, and no real solutions. And I'm wondering why:
Lion Apple Mail keeps asking me for my iCloud password almost every time I fire it up, or randomly when I've got it already open.
Why is that? I've tried deleting the password from the preferences/accounts and re-typing it several times. That didn't work. I've tried reparing the keychain with the keychain app, but that didn't work.
I don't get it. What exactly do I do? Nothing has worked. Do I delete the entire account in Mail and set it up again from scratch? Sometimes it'll ask me repeatedly for it and nothing works, so I have to cancel and quit, and then wait a bit and start Mail again and hope that it'll take it this time around. Sometimes it'll take it the first time I type it in. Sometimes it won't even ask for it at all.
What's the deal? What do I do? I've looked on this forum and other forums dealing with Macs and, like many others, none of the solutions presented have actually worked. So any tips would be greatly appreciated.

If it works now, it will work from now on.
If you check the preferences for that account, you will notice in the advanced tab that it uses Apple Token for log in. No password used. You can also make the other settings for Mailbox Behaviors.
Also note that when you sign out of iCloud or disable the account in the iCloud sys prefs that it will remove iCloud from Mail until it's re enabled or you sign back in.
    Good Luck

  • HT203167 This is the third time asking this question! I got a new computer and lost all downloads and icloud says my apple id is valid but not for icloud how do I get my downloads back?

    I lost all my downloads

On your iTunes, Sign-in, Authorize the computer.
Then go to the iTunes Store and select "Purchased" from the Quick Links side bar on the right. Go through all the tabs to download again for free

  • Proposed Lion AutoSave and iCloud paradigms seem wrong?

Although none likely want their document edits-in-process to be lost upon an application crashing or having to temporarily log off the computer or close apps for some reason, being much nicer to simply resume editing from wherever one was prior to any potentially disrupting event; however doubt most want the current version of a document replaced with edits-in-process unless specifically requested to be saved for example. Thereby strongly suspect a much better paradigm would be to upon any modification of a current document, to simply begin autosaving it as a revision'x of the current document, until the user specifically requests it be saved as the current document, (i..e. DocumentName => (upon an unsaved edit) DocumentName'1 => (upon save) DocumentName (with the previous saved document then being accessible as a prior version).
And with respect to iCloud, it seems much more sensible to maintain the current folder/package/file paradigm, and enable any folder/package/file to be aliased to "the cloud", whereby all such folders/packages/files may be accessed and synced-to by any with permission, and be similarly logically placed within their respective local logical folder/package/file storage directories as desired, and accessed by applications as any other folder/package/file would be. I see no reason for applications to require users to treat data which may be synced through "the cloud" to be treated from a user perspective any differently than those exclusively stored locally.
    Other's thoughts?

Does anyone know anything about iCloud's document syncing mechanism yet? I suggest waiting until iCloud is released before worrying about the details.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Connecting your MacBook Pro and your MacBook Air will be the fastest way, but you have to spend money on cables and adapters (also, your MacBook Pro doesn't support Thunderbolt).
As you have a Time Capsule, one thing you can do is to start your MacBook Pro and make a Time Machine backup. Then, turn on your MacBook Air and set it up. Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so select the option to restore the backup from the Time Capsule and be patient. This can take a lot of time if you have to migrate a lot of files

    An update.
From iCloud Control Panel 2.1.1 for Windows
"iCloud Control Panel 2.1 and later includes support for Windows 8"
but you still need to set it up on a Mac or iOS device, "Note: To create an iCloud account you need an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later, or a Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later."

Hi, I'm a pc user and am trying to access an ical via the icloud. This ical houses information about work etc and it is quite important that I can gain access to it. To that end I have created an apple id and password and downloaded the icloud for the pc. However , when I get to the sign in page and use my apple id, I get a message to the effect that my apple id is ok, but its no good for an icloud account/ or I dont have an icloud account. I've trawled thru lots of help pages and nothing points me in the right direction. I've been on this for over 3 hours today and getting nowhere....Can somebody please help, I'm starting to lose the will to live over this

You must create the account using an Apple device, a Mac (Lion or greater) or an IOS device (IOS5 or greater). Having done that you will be able to sign in from your Windows machine.
FYI, iCal is an application that can display calendars from iCloud (and others) it is not a calendar itself, merely a calendar client. In Windows Outlook is the calendar client.

  • I have an older model iMac with Snow Leopard. Can I download the icloud? and if so where can I do that?

I have an older model iMac with Snow Leopard. Can I download the icloud? and if so from where can I do that?

iCloud requires OS X 10.7.2 or later, so you have to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion or Lion.
First, see if your Mac is supported > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If it's supported, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. While Mountain Lion is downloading, you can make a backup of your data.
When the download finishes, the installer will show up, so follow the steps to upgrade Mac OS X. After upgrading, you will be able to log in iCloud in System Preferences > iCloud.
Also, see if your programmes are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • HT4759 How do I set up icloud for my ipod shuffle on my new computer windows 8. I downloaded the icloud but it tells me that i don't have the icloud and I cannot add songs to my ipod.

How do I set up icloud for my ipod shuffle on my new computer windows 8. I downloaded the icloud but it tells me that i don't have the icloud and I cannot add songs to my ipod.

An iPod Shuffle can't use iCloud.  It can only be used on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) running iOS 5 or higher, or on a supported Mac or PC.
Also you can't create and iCloud acount on your PC (or your iPod Shuffle).  You have to create your account on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) running iOS 5 or higher, or on a Mac running OS X Lion (10.7.2) or higher.  After creating the account on one of these devices you can sign into it on your PC.  But this still won't allow you to add songs to your iPod Shuffle as it doesn't support iCloud.
