Lion download only w/o installing

I'm supporting a computer 90 miles away, and the user has a really slow internet connection.  I need to be there for the install, but not the download.  Can I have her download Lion but not install until I'm there?  I've install Lion on two computers, and I just can't remember if this was an option.
Thanks

Hi..
If it's a really slow internet connnection, since Lion is a 4GB file, itls more than likely the download will time out before the download is completed.
And just so you are aware, if Lion is installled, if the startup disk needs repairing or the Mac OS X reinstalled, it requires high speed internetc (broadband) connection to do so.
Requirements for reinstalling OS X Lion
"Reinstalling OS X Lion via Lion Recovery requires broadband access to the Internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X Lion is downloaded over the Internet from Apple when Lion Recovery is used for reinstallation."
From here > OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery
An alternative would be to purchase the  OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive - Apple Store (U.S.)

  • Lion download, how to keep install file.

Well, I've downloaded Lion. Once I'd decided how to download it and where to put it to avoid messing up a perfectly good Snow Leopard which was on the internal startup drive, it went very smoothly, only took about 45 mins. I started up on a SuperDuper! clone on an external drive and put Lion there.
As advised here, did remember to 'pull' InstallESD.dmg after downloading but before installing in case it's needed again.
    I now have saved:
    Install Mac OS X Lion.app   3.77 GB
    InstallESD.dmg   3.75 GB
Can I trash 'Install Mac OS X Lion.app' or does it do something important?

Thanks. Think I will keep both for the time being. I tried Option + click on Installed (and holding Option) but it won't budge from Installed. This what I think is happening judging from other posts here. Lion is installed on an external drive - disconnected. However the installer package is Saved on the Internal and the App Store is probably 'Seeing" this. Think I will not mess about with anything at the moment.
Don't really like the App Store in principle, too easy to have 'misunderstandings', put credit card on it just to get Lion, and removed credit card details within 24 hours of downloading Lion.
Only got Lion to play with and think it's a very good idea to have it on its own external drive as a SECONDARY! boot option.

  • OS X Lion downloaded but won't install?

I downloaded OS X Lion, took me 1.5 days. I have the Lion and arrow icon on the dock. I click on it. The installer launches and asks me to agree to terms and conditions, I agree and then it asks me to choos the disk where Lion will be installed but nothing happens: I can't choose the disk, I can't go forward. I can only go backwards where it asks me again to agree to terms and conditions. Talk about One Infinite Loop!
I have not been able to find proper help on apple.com and the technicians at my local Mac Store haven't a clue.
I have tried to re-download and it will not let me, arguing that Lion is already installed, which is not.
    Please help!

    hmm... that's strange.
What I did on my adventure was...
removed the installer from the dock, put it in the trash.  restarted trying to get into my bootcamp partition, or I suppose the support guys wanted to make sure there wasn't something amiss with it.
I too could not "re-download" from the app store.  They never did address this.  The alt / option keys are the same.
After this I went into 10.6.8 again and got a similar error; but after I selected the disk to install on.  it would say 'preparing to install'... 3 minutes, 2 minutes... 'will restart in 30 seconds' and then would error out saying 'please try again'.  Initially they thought my installer was corrupt but it wasn't.  After I unmounted the install image from the desktop it worked.
They mentioned that if you have a really large bootcamp partition they were seeing problems with that.  Maybe try a reboot and hold down (option?) to get into the selection list for Mac / bootcamp, select the mac h/d and retry?
I don't know if this helps or not but my installer (whcih worked) is 12,034,297 bytes.  the whole install shows a size of 3,802,959,872 (that's all the files/folders on the usb).  I'd hate to see you go through the download again and run into the problem again.  I'd say if you got the same size files it's a conflict with the installer.

  • Lion Downloads Afresh For Every Install

I discovered to my horror that despite already having Lion installed on a brand new Macbook Air, reinstalling the system triggers the download from scratch of the whole OS!!!  Isn't this defeating the object of a recovery partition?  Instead of installing my system, I'm now watching it download ...slowly.  It started at 7 hours and is now down to 2.
Apple - Please recognise the realities of the World you're working in.  Individuals do not have lease lines and cannot accomodate 4gig downloads to reintall their operating system.  Besides, why would they want to?  Why isn't it issued on a flash drive or something?  Daft.
More insanity from Cupertino.  Every time I use Lion it makes me want to buy a PC.  Grrrrr.  Snow Leopard was fantastic.

Why are you booting to the Recovery partition? Why dont you boot into the normal partition and use your Mac?

  • Mountain Lion downloads but error on install

I have downloaded Mtn Lion successfully but get this error when trying to install 'this copy of the install can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during download. delete this copy and download a new one'

Just in case something is wrong with your HD, use Disk Utility and verify.
Other than that, there's no choice, you have to download again.

  • Error occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools Download Only and try installing manually

I am running windows xp and am trying to install a new version of itunes. Any suggestions?

I have just had the same problem as the first person has spoke about in the question/problem.  I have looked at the download page on the Apple support pages and on there when you look at the info on the new 10.4 update, it only talks about 64bit version of Windows.  So maybe like mine being only 32bit maybe it could be why it won't install.  All so, maybe for once, Apple have seen that it still has major issues with the new update and have pulled it from the update system so they can fix it, or is that too much wishful thinking???
Reading through the forums on hear too, 10.4 does look to have loads of problems so maybe it's a good thing it will not install.
I am going to ring up Apple support tomorrow (25/07/11) and speak to them, if they give me any good information on this I will come back to this chat and update you if that any help to you.
In the mean time, I am not going to bother with it as can't afford to have any problems with my iTunes.
