  • Mountain Lion Finder problem

    Hi guys,
I've been having these issues since I installed Mountain Lion.
To open a new Finder window, even when I don't have any other one opened, I have to right click on the Finder icon and click on New Finder Window. Before I just clicked on the Finder icon and it opened and new window.
I can't open the Trash, neither by clicking on the icon nor by right clicking and selecting Open. I'm also unable to empty the Trash.
I use Dropbox, and if I click on the little icon on the top bar, and select Open Dropbox Folder, nothing happens.
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you!

I solved this by just restarting the machine, it was that simple

  • 10.6.8 and Lion wifi problem

    hello,
I am trying to use my mac for one week...... ;(
everything was fine until update to 10.6.8... wifi problem as many of you already know. tried to update to lion, same problem. Got back to 10.6 and then update to 10.6.8 using software update... then formatted again, fresh install 10.6 update to 10.6.8 using combo update, same problem.
tried to delete firewall file, turned off ipv6, changed security of my router from wpa2 to wpa, tried different channels, reset SMC and RAM, all the solutions we can research... all the same
now I am on 10.6.7 and seems i still has the problem happening....
hello apple, more than a month and no solution yet????
I've read somewhere a new procedure that consists in update to 10.6.8 and before restart do some procedures.... but I can't find it anymore, any help?
I guess that solution is the only one remaining I did not try yet.
    thanks and regards,
    raul

well, it's caused by software only, there is nothing wrong with airport hardware

  • In Lion, Finder does not keep preferences

In Lion, Finder opens in my home page.  When I tell it to open in another folder, it remembers for about 3-4 days, and then goes back to to my home page.  How can I get it to remember my preference?

When I shut down, I unclick the "remember windows" box.  By "home page" I'm referring to the folder with my name on it in the sidebar.  The problem is with the Preferences.  Under "New Finder Windows Show" I ask it to open a folder.  After I close preferences, Finder will open in the requested folder for a few days, and then stop, and go back to its default, which is the home folder.

  • LION: How do I get LION Finder to remember a window's settings as always before?

LION: How do I get LION Finder to remember a window's settings (view, window size, position, toolbar, sidebar) like always before? It remembers soon after, but after a time it forgets and does what it wants. Redoing this over and over is driving me crazy. I've been using Mac since 1986 and never had this problem,. One of the most beloved things about the Mac OS is that it REMEMBERS the setting for virtually everything!  Clearly, Jobs has been out of action during LION development.
Maybe there's a way (with TERMINAL or finder prefs??) to adjust the "Time To Forget" to infinity (because it's OK for a while and then reverts to defaults again).

You don't (unfortunately) . Best to be patient until 10.7.2 is released (any day now), and which should fix this bug. If that doesn't work, then report it to Apple, but this is a BIG bug that Apple must and will fix soon.
BTW, I suspect you may be right about Steve Jobs influence, but hopefully this is just an exception.

  • One of the users on my Mac book pro, running Mountain lion finds that no changes made in last session are there next time they log on

One of the users on my Mac book pro running mountain lion finds that no changes made in last session are there next time they log on.
For instance, the Macintosh HD icon, is always moved so that it is almost off the screen to top left hand side of the desktop.
None of my changes to the sidebar in the finder are there.
My changes to the dock have reverted.
Despite unticking the box when logging out, even though i have quit all applications, iphoto and safari are always re-opened.
iphoto always says the library needs to be upgraded... even though i did that the last time.
I have tried deleting ALL the files in the "Saved application state" folder in the library folder, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
This is on a second admin user account.
The main user account seems to be fine.
This account used to be in the filevault on Lion, but is not now in Mountain Lion.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

The same tragic thing happened to me, not even a full two days after I bought it. I immediately powered it off, wiped it as best I could, and put it in front of a fan. I tried valiantly to get the back off, but couldn't remove all the screws. I was basically inconsolable until I realized that no matter what, my credit card insurance would cover it, since it had been less than 90 days. Fast forward 48 hours, and it seemed to run just fine. Some of the keys and the track pad were sticky, and I figured since it was covered, I might as well get it fixed. My only concern at this point was had I voided the Apple Care. I brought it in, told them what happened, said what I needed to satisfy the credit card, and they said, "We'll just swap it out for you, no problem." I was thrilled, and the Genius said they appreciated my honesty, and it was easier for all parties to just do it this way. And my Apple Care was transferred to the new machine. This was my first Mac and, needless to say, I am now an Apple devotee.

  • Can I access the photos on my iPhone directly in the OSX Lion Finder

If I have a hundred or so photos on my iPhone that I'd like to delete, its a real pain to have to select them all one by one then delete them.
The problem is even worse on the iPad where I recently backed up 1,100 photos from my camera ( a seemingly ideal application for the iPad) in about 30 events.  You can't simply select an event and delete it.  You have to manually select each individual photo, then delete the selected photos.
If I could access the photos in the Lion Finder, I could SelectAll, then delete them.
I understood that there were application that could do this, but they don't run on Lion.
    iPhone 4
    iMac running OSX LIon

Your productname may be iPhone, but this forumname is iWeb.
The iPhone forum is probably a better place to ask.
This is the best positive response I can think of.

  • Mountain Lion WiFi Problems (recap)

Folks, wanted to recap this as I am finding the problem much more broad than my original post (here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19123146#19123146). Here's my setup:
    MacBook Air 13", Mid 2011
    Mountain Lion
Wifi Problems, cannot connect to open wi-fi and Sprint hot spot.
CAN connect to Time Capsule (at least I could before I started futzing with my setup while on the road)
here's what I've done so far:
    Reset SMC
    Zapped PRAM
    Reduced MTU to 1300
    Set hotspot to 802.11g only
    Set IPv6 to Local-link only
Set up a new user account, no connection there either
    Repair disk
    Repair disk permissions
Removed WiFi in networking control panel and re-add.
Remove the network from control panel AND remove keys from Keychain
What I have not done but will try later:
    Reinstall ML
    Disable WMM
    Observations:
ML seems to think there is a connection to the wi-fi, but it can never get an IP address
Using a static IP on the network doesn't help the problem
My hotspot never really registers the MBA as a connection

Tell you what worked for me .. finally.
Had two Apple technicians on the case - over the phone. Have to say, those guys are awesome! - with patience of saints! But to the point! As there was nothing obviously wrong with operating system, they promised to call me back the following day but suggested talking to my Internet Service Provider about the router (D-Link router). The ISP remoted to my iMac and logged into router site and changed channel selection from automatic to manual. He chose channel 13, and suddenly my MBA connected and has been connecting smoothly ever since. The reasons I had problems was that there was over 10 available wi-fi networks in my flat, some of which showed as having stronger signal than my own. The ISP guy told me this, increasingly, becomes and issue, especially in blocks of flats - the ether is  filled with wi-fi networks to the point of saturation. He also said, his choice of channel 13 was just a fluke and it might turn out I'd have to change it again.
So, although the problem is now solved, there still remains this one nagging question: Why did the wi-fi connectivity zonked right after Mountain Lion upgrade?

  • Mountain Lion Finder has no boolean operators?  Where?  When?

Mountain Lion Finder has no boolean operators?  If so, where?  If not, when?  THANKS

Are you talking about the Find window?
If so, just add the criteria you want by clicking the + button. By default, they are Ands. If you want to Or them, or Negate them, hold down the option key and click on the + button.

  • I plugged in a USB drive, tried to open Finder, got the message Finder.app can't be opened - 10810, went into terminal.app, messed up, now terminal screen blank.  how do i regain terminal in order to fix finder problem?

With my iMac running, I plugged in a USB drive.  When I clicked on finder, I got the message Finder.app can't be opened - 10810.  I removed the USB drive.  I messed up while in Terminal.app trying to fix Finder problem.  Now my terminal screen is blank, just the cursor, but no action after typing a command & clicking enter.  Help!

I finally figured out a way to Restart (normal way wasn't working...) & that Restart DID FIX both the Terminal problem AND the Finder problem.  So easy, yet so elusive.  Thanks so much.

  • Since installing LION having problems getting photo images to upload?

since installing LION having problems getting photo images to upload? anyone else havie this problem? I did finally get a message that the format was wrong, but I have changed nothing on my camera. Only change was the installing of LION.

This is from the Kodak site which says there is no Lion compatible driver/software yet, but it is coming in late August:

If you don't want to wait there is always this kind of device for less than $10 (I don't own or endorse it):

after a long in "stop" period, the internet connection (ethernet) doesn't work. before updating to mountain lion this problem didn't exist.

Gave up on the GUI.  This script derived from http://blog.netnerds.net/2012/07/os-x-how-to-setup-nat-on-lion-and-mountain-lion / seems to work for me:
gwdev=en0 # This is my WiFi connection (has Internet connection)
targetdev=en1 # This is the USB to Ethernet adapter (to give Internet connection)
    /sbin/ifconfig $targetdev down
    /sbin/ifconfig bridge0 create
    /sbin/ifconfig bridge0 up
    /sbin/ifconfig bridge0 addm $gwdev
    /sbin/ifconfig bridge0 $HOST_ADDR
/sbin/route add default -interface bridge0 -ifscope bridge0 -cloning
    /usr/sbin/sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1
/sbin/ipfw add 100 divert natd ip from any to any via $gwdev
    /usr/sbin/natd -interface $gwdev -use_sockets -same_ports -unregistered_only -dynamic -clamp_mss -enable_natportmap -natportmap_interface $targetdev

  • Lion finder sidebar loses devices, places, icons

Lion finder sidebar loses devices, places, icons. Preferences marked to show everything. Only Macintosh HD appears in sidebar.

Go to /Users/yourname/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
*(Note that to get to Library you must go to your "Go" menu holding option key)
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart.(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • Finder problem with 10.4.6

I installed the update today and now my iMac, which I love and has NEVER had a problem has a Finder problem.
When I scroll through files in a Finder window the file names will get "all bunched up" for lack of a better description.
The names of the files will seem to stack on top of each other and it looks messy and it's driving me nuts. Anyone else see this?
    Thanks.
    Paul

Gotta love that Dictionary!"I haven't updated yet but it's been reported by everyone."Actually, it's mentioned in the second bullet from the top of Article 303411: About the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update (delta) and Article 303410: About the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update (combo) — which I'd read before proceeding. But if they explained why, I missed it. Perhaps so a software engineer can bemusedly observe how many enthusiastic Mac folk would spin on the top of a pin? (Just in case someon'e revising the articles as I write... Thanks, AppleCare!)
Unfortunately, the Apple Installer's abbreviated "Important Information" screen doesn't mention it — so folks who didn't check the KnowledgeBase were caught unaware.
"Maybe it reset your pram?"MJ, have another cup of coffee... I think I muttered the same hypothesis above in saying, " Gotta wonder if it 'zapped PRAM' for me. And what a pleasure to no longer see the faux permissions!...
I guess devious minds think alike...
    Cheerfully,

Did I really just suggest that a New Yorker have another cup o' Joe? Shame on me.
Is that "GRACILE" as in Burns & Allen?
Did I edit this message? I forget; too much coffee, I guess...
