Lion Finder sidebar color?

Hey!
I've just upgraded to Lion and I'm kinda dissapointed of many reasons, like the grey aweful sidebar icons in the finder app.
Is there any solution to change it back to the normal like it was in Snow Leopard?
The other thing is the Mail app. The new surface looks horrible as well, even if I change it to "classical view".
I want the older back! It was good as it was!

But there is an option in CandyBar to change the icons from the side bar, those are different ones than the folders in normal view, you have to change specifically the sidebar icons.

Lion finder sidebar loses devices, places, icons. Preferences marked to show everything. Only Macintosh HD appears in sidebar.

Go to /Users/yourname/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
*(Note that to get to Library you must go to your "Go" menu holding option key)
    com.apple.finder.plist

Then, restart.(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • Faint Lines in Lion Finder Sidebar

After upgrading to Lion (10.7.1), I noticed faint horizontal alternating lines in the Finder sidebar when viewed at high or low vertical angles, as well as any other application that uses the same color blue in its active sidebar. This occurs on my Macbook Pro 17 inch, mid 2010, matte display (see attached screenshot). On my Mac Pro (2007) running Lion 10.7.1, the Finder sidebar appears as a smooth gradient.
Taking a screenshot and sampling the gradient colors in Photoshop indicates the lines are there on the Macbook Pro, but on the Mac Pro the blue is a smooth gradient.
Does anyone else experience this behavior?

  • How to hide or rename the HP Printer's Mac address from Lion Finder Sidebar

I have an HP d100a all in one printer, and since upgrading to OSX 10.7 (Lion), my printer's mac address shows up in the Finder Sidebar under Shared devices. I understand this is for the printers SD card slot to be shared over my network, however the name is not user friendly.
Is there a way to rename what is displayed in the Finder window, from the devices mac address to a friendlier name?
If not, is there a way to disable the sharing of the SD card slot so it is hidden from the sidebar completely?
I have found several posts from people not knowing what this entry is, but I have not managed to find any posts that explain how to rename or hide the entry.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have also registered to this forum to inform that the problem with showing the MAC-address in the sidebar of the finder is still not solved.
The strange thing is that the Embedded Web Server says:
"This specifies the Bonjour domain name assigned to the device, in the form <host name>.local. If a user-specified host name has not been assigned, the default host name HPxxxxxx is used, where xxxxxx are the last 6 digits of the LAN hardware (MAC) address. This option cannot be modified."
But I did assign a user-specified host name and that name does show-up everywere (also within Bonjour), except in the sidebar of the finder (hp###xx##x####). Lots of people have the same issue, when searching on the interet, but not one has found the solution.
Please help with solving this issues?

  • Why do my Finder sidebar color tags contain two copies of each file?

Clicking on a color tag category in the Finder sidebar I find I have two copies of each tagged file. This is a whole new phenomenon to me as I use the new Mavericks tagging system. If I Trash one of the two copies it returns the next time I open Finder. This is not only unnecessary clutter, but makes me concerned about which one is the "right" one to use.
Why is this happening, or what am I doing wrong to cause this?

What kind of a Backup is it?
I have a Time Machine backup connected all the time, but don't see those things.
If it is just a "clone" of your internal, then Finder will display the Tags for all attached devices.
If that is the case, I think you might want to provide feedback to Apple and suggest they create a "Privacy List" like in Spotlight to disable looking up Tags on the things in the "Privacy List."
    https://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Armed with your good advice, I now see the duplicate "cloned" files come from my backup hard drive, which I always have mounted on my desktop. I use that to back up my files periodically using SuperDuper.
Good suggestion about pointing this out to Apple. I suppose I could also unmount my backup hard drive, and remount it only when doing backups, to avoid being bothered by these duplicate files.
    Thanks for your thoughtful comments.

  • Finder sidebar, standard dock folders (Applications, Documents and Downloads) and home folder in English (Lion and also Snow Leopard)!

A few days before I downloaded Lion, the names of the finder sidebar, the standard dock folders and my home folder changed from German to English. What can I do to change back to German?

Well I am surprised by your answer. I thought that if you had used it, maybe something of the settings was left behind after uninstalling it.
I do not think it will solve your issue, but try it, you will never know....

  • How can i get coloured icons in finder sidebar?

Is there a way to get coloured icons in finder sidebar?
The greyscale icons are not really userfriendly ...
    Thx,
    Chriz

Finder, like the rest of Lion, has been visited by the color vampire
Apple says that its goal with the Lion user interface was to highlight content by de-emphasizing the surrounding user interface elements. You can see this most clearly in sidebar and toolbar icons, which are now monochromatic in most of the important bundled applications. But this has the unfortunate side effect of making interface elements less distinguishable from each other, especially at the small sizes typical in sidebars. I'm not sure the "increased emphasis on content" is enough to balance out the loss, especially in applications like the Finder.

  • In Lion, Finder does not keep preferences

In Lion, Finder opens in my home page.  When I tell it to open in another folder, it remembers for about 3-4 days, and then goes back to to my home page.  How can I get it to remember my preference?

When I shut down, I unclick the "remember windows" box.  By "home page" I'm referring to the folder with my name on it in the sidebar.  The problem is with the Preferences.  Under "New Finder Windows Show" I ask it to open a folder.  After I close preferences, Finder will open in the requested folder for a few days, and then stop, and go back to its default, which is the home folder.

  • Question about navigation in finder sidebar

Hi, I'm new to Mac, and I just bought a Macbook Pro Retina Mid-2012 15'' with Mountain Lion installed. I wonder if there is any keyboard shortcut to navigate to finder sidebar and right pane back and forth except the command-shift-G.
    Thank you.

The Sidebar is not navigable by keyboard. All you can do is add an item to it by pressing command-T. A complete list of built-in keyboard shortcuts is here:

  • Mavericks Finder Sidebar Not Keeping Network Links

I'm having an issue after upgrading to Mavericks. Version is 10.9.3 with all recent updates installed. When I drag a server folder (create a link) to the finder sidebar under favorites, the folder links randomly vanish and I have to keep re-adding them. This is a huge productivity bottleneck because I link all my current projects I'm working on there for ease of access. I'll have anywhere from 20 projects at a time linked there. It worked fine in Mountain Lion. They were always there and when clicking on them at boot, they would open right up and reconnect to the server. Now, sometimes I'll click on them and they will disappear if not manually connected to the server first.
    Things I've tried thus far...
    1. Delete the .plist files for Sidebar and Finder and restart.
    2. Repair permissions.
    3. Add server and folder links to login startup items (When restarting they have a yellow exclamation point by them and are still not in the sidebar)
None of these have worked. Any ideas or help on this situation would be much appreciated. Thanks!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

  • How do I change the Finder Sidebar size?

It an earlier preview build of Lion, I was able to change the Finder sidebar text size to make it smaller.  The default was too large, taking up too much real estate.  Unfortunately, I don't remember what I did to fix it.  Finder Preferences and View Options don't seem to offer any option to change the sidebar's font.
    Does anyone know?

Go to System Preferences/General and check the Sidebar Icon Size box.  Make your selection.  This controls the Mailbox sidebar and the Finder sidebar.
Previous F.A.N reply answered this for me.  I'm just adding the solution to this thread.  I couldn't easily find the way to close out this query.

  • LION: How do I get LION Finder to remember a window's settings as always before?

LION: How do I get LION Finder to remember a window's settings (view, window size, position, toolbar, sidebar) like always before? It remembers soon after, but after a time it forgets and does what it wants. Redoing this over and over is driving me crazy. I've been using Mac since 1986 and never had this problem,. One of the most beloved things about the Mac OS is that it REMEMBERS the setting for virtually everything!  Clearly, Jobs has been out of action during LION development.
Maybe there's a way (with TERMINAL or finder prefs??) to adjust the "Time To Forget" to infinity (because it's OK for a while and then reverts to defaults again).

You don't (unfortunately) . Best to be patient until 10.7.2 is released (any day now), and which should fix this bug. If that doesn't work, then report it to Apple, but this is a BIG bug that Apple must and will fix soon.
BTW, I suspect you may be right about Steve Jobs influence, but hopefully this is just an exception.

  • Finder sidebar error 8058 when try to delete

I have two old files in my finder sidebar that I can't delete . I am running in Lion. when I restart in 10.6.8 they are gone. but when I go back to Lion, they are still there and I cannot move them to trash. I get error code 8058 when I try to move to trash.  any help would be appreciated. i have tried holding the command button, and I cannot find any list in the library that says com.apple.finder.plist. thanks. they are just annoying me.

Not sure if the procedure is the same in Lion, but try it anyway - hold down the cmd key while dragging the icons to the Desktop (not the Trash)

  • One of the users on my Mac book pro, running Mountain lion finds that no changes made in last session are there next time they log on

One of the users on my Mac book pro running mountain lion finds that no changes made in last session are there next time they log on.
For instance, the Macintosh HD icon, is always moved so that it is almost off the screen to top left hand side of the desktop.
None of my changes to the sidebar in the finder are there.
My changes to the dock have reverted.
Despite unticking the box when logging out, even though i have quit all applications, iphoto and safari are always re-opened.
iphoto always says the library needs to be upgraded... even though i did that the last time.
I have tried deleting ALL the files in the "Saved application state" folder in the library folder, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
This is on a second admin user account.
The main user account seems to be fine.
This account used to be in the filevault on Lion, but is not now in Mountain Lion.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

The same tragic thing happened to me, not even a full two days after I bought it. I immediately powered it off, wiped it as best I could, and put it in front of a fan. I tried valiantly to get the back off, but couldn't remove all the screws. I was basically inconsolable until I realized that no matter what, my credit card insurance would cover it, since it had been less than 90 days. Fast forward 48 hours, and it seemed to run just fine. Some of the keys and the track pad were sticky, and I figured since it was covered, I might as well get it fixed. My only concern at this point was had I voided the Apple Care. I brought it in, told them what happened, said what I needed to satisfy the credit card, and they said, "We'll just swap it out for you, no problem." I was thrilled, and the Genius said they appreciated my honesty, and it was easier for all parties to just do it this way. And my Apple Care was transferred to the new machine. This was my first Mac and, needless to say, I am now an Apple devotee.
