Lion freeze on MacBook Pro 2010
Good morning,
I have had a few freezes since I upgraded my 2010 MacBook Pro (15" Core i5) last Friday. I think it might be related to the graphic card switch but I'm not sure. A few freezes occured while browsing the internet with chrome and I have had two yesterday evening while using iPhoto.
Everytime, the machine was getting really hot during the freeze and I had to hard reboot manually by holding the power button for a few seconds.
Is anybody else having some issues with their 2010 MBP?
Hi guys,
Thanks for your feedback, at least I'm not the only one. I've deactivated the automatic switch of graphic cards (using gfx cardstatus, handy little app by the way) and I didn't get any freeze since.
Another thing, the ambient light sensor doesn't seem to work either. Not a big issue for me but still this is another issue...
I guess we'll have to wait for a patch and see!
Appart from that I have read a lot of complaints concerning CPU load or battery life. Everything is normal on my side, I even got better battery life since I'm under Lion.

OS X Lion freezes my MacBook Pro
Hello everyone,
I've got a 15' MacBook Pro since November 2010, it came with OS X Snow Leopard, and everything was fine with it. No bugs, no freezing, no problems... I could use it without having to restart the computer for months.
I made the upgrade to Lion in July 2011, and since that day, my MacBook Pro freezes randomly quite often. Sometimes it's when I'm checking my emails for example I click on "answer" and the MacBook Pro freezes, there is this multicolor whirl, I can't do anything. I've to shut down the Mac by holding the power button for a while. It doesn't happen only with mail, it happens randomly like I said. For example, when I'm watching a YouTube video or watching photos in iPhoto... even when I only use the finder to find a file.
To repair this problem, I tried everything :
- I made a clean install of Lion (I thought, maybe some Snow Leopard parts were the problem).
- I made a repair of the permissions, a repair of the disk, well, everything that could help the Mac to work better like PRAM reset, NTFC reset, etc
- I completely erased the disk, and I made a clean install of Lion.
I don't think it's an hardware problem, because everything was fine with Snow Leopard. If you know something I could do in order to have a Mac without bugs and freezing. And don't tell me to reinstall Snow Leopard, cause I really need iCloud.
Thanks in advanceOK everyone, I may have found the solution, with a very clean install, everything seems to work fine now.
What I did: I downloaded Lion to create a USB installer, then I launched it, in disc utility, I erased the disc, and also the empty space (about 2 hours).
With my hard drive all cleaned, I installed Lion using the USB key, (about 20min).
Since, I tried eveything, I opened all my programs, I used YouTube and every websites with Flash. I tried eveything that could make it freeze. Nothing, so I think that's the solution of many freezing problems.
And the Mac seems to be faster than before... So it's strange, cause I already did that before, except the Install from a USB key. Maybe it's that. -

Have you restarted yet? -
I install Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro and freezing after waking up and is impossible restart
I install mountain lion on my macbook pro late 2009 and freezing after waking up and is impossible restart
Restart your mac in Safe Mode by holding down the 'shift' key while it powers up. You'll know if you've entered Safe Mode correctly if you see a progress bar underneath the grey Apple logo screen. Let go of the shift key when you see that, wait for the progess bar to complete then log in.
After log in, go to
> System Preferences... Users & Groups and remove everything from the 'Login Items' tab.
If you have any anti-virus software installed (Sophos, F-Secure, VirusBarrier, Mackeeper) uninstall it while in Safe Mode.
Restart your mac normally and test.
Any improvement? -
i made a dual boot of windows 7 and mac os x lion in my macbook pro .i installed m icrosoft support software also. now, can i install windows updates? do i turn on the automatic updating of updates? does hot fix of microsoft i.e, " support.microsoft.com/kb/979491" helps in stop freezing in dual boot mechanism?
Windows has a software updater built into Windows and when you install the Boot Camp drivers then it will install an Apple software updater also. I believe Windows is set to automatically download and install your updates as does the Apple software Updater. They both will update the individual files it needs to periodically.
"Microsoft updates" and "Windows updates" are basically the same thing in Windows. Are you talking about the "Windows support software" when downloading from Boot Camp Assistant? Apple installs a software updater for it's Boot Camp drivers in Windows 7 so you can do it manually or automatically.
The "Hot Fix" your referring to is only for certain motherboards built from other Windows only computer manufacturers and does NOT pertain to any Apple computers.
If you have a problem with your computer then it's best to ask a specific question so we can help better. -
Macbook Pro 2010 keeps freezing and restarting
Hi.
Last few days I have problems with my macbook pro 2010 model, running latest OS and all software. I have problems with freezing very often. Screen turns to black and after few seconds it restarts automaticly. It happens when I try to open iPhoto, surf the web (scrolling quickly). I have tried to restore OS to older state from Time Machine, but didn't help. It also shows this report:

Macbook Pro 2010 very slow since Mountain Lion!
Hi!
My Macbook Pro 2010 has become very slow since I installed Mountain Lion. How can I use OS X Lion again?Regardless of whether you think you need it, uninstall it and test to see if the slowness problem is solved.
If it isn't put it back if you must, but there's no point trying to look for another cause till you've eliminated this one. You have a huge amount swaps which is what is causing your slowdown. 90% chance that's your AV software doing that. -
Lion Login gives me Beach Ball lock up - Macbook Pro 2010
Ever since i updated my Macbook Pro 2010 15 i7 to lion, when i turn it on and it comes to the log in screen (i need it password protected for turning on), the beach ball just spins and it wont let me type my password in.
I ran disk permissions, i made sure my HD wasnt over loaded, ram has been in there since i got the mbp. I reset the pram once it let me in, then later on the mbp crahsed on me and it told me to restart it. I did and the beach ball came back on the log in. I powered down and reset the pram and still i got a beach ball at log in. Powered down again and it let me type my password half way then beach ball. Powered down again and then it let me type my whole password.
Have to say this is becoming a hassle, anyone have any ideas? or is it best to just go back to Snow Leapord?I'm having the same problems on a 2011 iMac i7.
It won't let me type in my password - the spinning beachball is there instead.
It only happens to me when I leave my iMac locked for long periods of time. -
IPhone 4S not wifi syncing with Macbook Pro (2010, Mountain Lion)
Subject pretty much says it all: I can't get my iphone 4S to wifi sync with my Macbook Pro (2010, running Mountain Lion). All relevant pieces have been updated (latest OS on laptop and device, latest iTunes, etc.). wifi sync did work at some point but now simply won't; the device does not show up in iTunes, and trying to manually start a sync from the device just leave it looking for my laptop forever.
A little Google digging did make reference to trying to kill "AppleMobileDeviceHelper" and restarting iTunes. I have noticed that AppleMobileDeviceHelper is not running...should it be? I've even tried manually starting it and it doesn't seem to work. I dug through Console looking for references to it in logs and didn't find anything.
Any suggestions/ideas appreciated.

How do I backup the files on to my Macbook Pro 2010 from a damaged external hard drive?
Awhile ago my macbook pro crashed and I had to make a bootable disk of Mountain lion no problem here but I accidentallly deleted all the files off of my hard drive from which i recovered using a PC computer and disk drill. After it had recovered all my files i later tried to put these files on to my macbook computer and disk utility views the drive as damaged and needs to be repaired but in order to do this i have to format it and change the partition and what not. When i try to copy/burn to a CD the finder stops the operation and says that "finder cannot complete the operation because file _catalog cannot be moved" and just recently when i plugged my drive into my computer the sharing permissions say read only. I know that my files are there because when i right click and press get info i see that 5 gb are used but the folder is only showing me 2gb what do i do to get my files onto my computer?
My external hard drive is a WD 1 TB my passport and the partition thats givving my this trouble is formatted to be MS DOS FAT32
I have parallels Windows 8
I am running Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro Mid 2010 modelUse Data Rescue on the Mac and out the recovered files to another external drive.
Just grab your users files, the rest you trash. That's all you can do.
Good Luck -
