Lion HDMI Problem.

I installed Lion on my iMac (27 inch) and later noticed that my TV no longer recieved video via an HDMI cable from my ROKU, which uses a wireless router.  Everything worked with Snow Lepard.  I have read of other problems with Lion and HDMI.  Is there a quick fix or do I just have to wait for Apple to do something?

Did you verify that in the Sound (System Preferences), that in the OUTPUT tab, that the HDMI option is shown & Selected??

  • Mavericks HDMI Problem with Atomos H2S

I have recently come across a problem with Mavericks interfacing with a Atomos H2S that converts a HDMI signal to a HD-SDI Signal. I have used this device for the past couple of years and since upgrading two of my MacBook Pros to Mavericks, the Atomos H2S shows errors that it cannot recognise the signal. The exact same computer that before Mavericks worked perfectly. I have tested with other MacBooks and have found the same problem only with Mavericks.
I am aware people have had HDMI problems with certain monitors once upgrading to Mavericks but no one has posted about an Atomos H2S. Seems like a problem with Mavericks if it can't interface HDMI protocol with certain products that it could previously with.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem without going back to Mountain Lion?

DVI seems to work perfectly fine though.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 13' HDMI Problem

    Hi all,
Two weeks ago I discovered a problem with the HDMI output on my external monitor (LG IPS 234) when connected to a MacBook Pro Retina 13'. The monitor wasn't able to display greyscale information. E.g. the underlying greyscales of a Google preview search suggestion when hovering a mouse over the suggestions. Also the whole monitor display looked washed out and fuzzy. I thought it would be a problem with the monitor, so I hauled it back to the store. We checked the monitor with a MBPR 15' and everything was fine (screens not in sync - important see below). I started thinking the new 13' MBPR might be the issue. But before leaving the store and blaming my MBPR 13' we checked out another 13' MBPR and (supprise!) the same effect again. To double check we tried another external monitor from Samsung (ok, I know if Samsung is not working with an Apple MBPR...). But seriously... The same effect again.
I contacted the Apple support and after discussing this with the 1st level (with little helpful tips ... SMB reset etc.) I was forwarded to the 2nd level. The guy wasn't able to help me either. He blamed my monitor and that it might need a firmware update. The problem could be linked with some incompatible HDCP. But a firmware update can only be done by the monitor vendor or a service partner and LG doesn't even indicate that this is possible at all.
Now my question is, does anybody else experience problems with external IPS displays and the MBPR 13'?
As I said, we tested it with 2 different MBPR 13' and 2 monitors from different vendors. In each combination the same problem. Always the same effect. For me this is an indication that there might be a bigger problem under the surface.

PS: a friend with a MPBR 15' has the same effect but only when the internal and the external IPS monitor is in sync
PS: the Apple 2nd level support promised me to give me a call regarding further steps to solve the problem (with a fixed date on Monday this week) ... They never called... Poor service Apple!

    Hello Daniel,
I gave Apple a call last week and asked for a feedback on my ticket. The guy I talked to at least tried to help me with the issue. In the meantime since my last attempt to receive something from Apple nothing has happened on the issue. Surprise! So we started from 0 again... Ok... Bought in customer with a decent pain level...
I received some test tools from the guy that I ran on the MPPR creating an encrypted file (...yes I can imagine what you think and I can assure you I had similar thoughts...) and mailed this stuff back to Apple. Now that they have insight of my whole digital live (ok I distend it a bit, but in reply to my question what's all included in this file the guy mentioned something like "don't worry only technical stuff..." Ah yea... That's why it is encrypted... You might find an info about a malfunction in the HDMI inside... very confident... Ok... What you all do for a chance of solving an HDMI problem).
So the current status is: Apple engineers are spending nights in the office to dig into whatever this tools squeezed out of my innocent MacBook. You see I have reached a state where I am slowly drifting into sarcasm ;-)
The guy mentioned there might ! be a patch coming with the next release if Apple finds the issue important enough ! and ! enough other customers have the problem as well. And on this I am not kidding. That's what he said.
Hmm... Will 3 customers be enough? I doubt it... We'll find out with the next release. Maybe we can increase the complains from release to release and empirically estimate when Apple starts taking customers seriously.
My personal guess is that they will dismount the HDMI port and send us an aluminum plug that fits perfectly in the hole. I have a flashback... There was once an issue with an antenna and they offered a piece of plastic to...
I am getting carried away so I better stop now :-) and return to my wine
Let's stay in touch if you find out something on the GB

  • Lion sleep problem

    Hi folks,
I read all messages on the Lion sleep problem, verified all relevant settings, and tried all that was recommended and applicable, but to no avail.  The display goes to sleep as set in energy saver but not the disk.  Does anyone has more to offer on this subject?  And apropos SleepPlease: I in principle refuse to download software that puts the machine to sleep when it's supposed to do so on it's own.  Any help is appreciated.
    Best
    Frank

I tried both of those suggestions an am still having the problem.  My settings are set to sleep the display and the monitor after 10 minutes.  Most times it wakes up fine, but it seems that since the update it does not wake up after being asleep for a considerable amount of time....  I have to do a hard reset to get it to come back up.

  • Mountain Lion WiFi Problems (recap)

Folks, wanted to recap this as I am finding the problem much more broad than my original post (here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19123146#19123146). Here's my setup:
    MacBook Air 13", Mid 2011
    Mountain Lion
Wifi Problems, cannot connect to open wi-fi and Sprint hot spot.
CAN connect to Time Capsule (at least I could before I started futzing with my setup while on the road)
here's what I've done so far:
    Reset SMC
    Zapped PRAM
    Reduced MTU to 1300
    Set hotspot to 802.11g only
    Set IPv6 to Local-link only
Set up a new user account, no connection there either
    Repair disk
    Repair disk permissions
Removed WiFi in networking control panel and re-add.
Remove the network from control panel AND remove keys from Keychain
What I have not done but will try later:
    Reinstall ML
    Disable WMM
    Observations:
ML seems to think there is a connection to the wi-fi, but it can never get an IP address
Using a static IP on the network doesn't help the problem
My hotspot never really registers the MBA as a connection

Tell you what worked for me .. finally.
Had two Apple technicians on the case - over the phone. Have to say, those guys are awesome! - with patience of saints! But to the point! As there was nothing obviously wrong with operating system, they promised to call me back the following day but suggested talking to my Internet Service Provider about the router (D-Link router). The ISP remoted to my iMac and logged into router site and changed channel selection from automatic to manual. He chose channel 13, and suddenly my MBA connected and has been connecting smoothly ever since. The reasons I had problems was that there was over 10 available wi-fi networks in my flat, some of which showed as having stronger signal than my own. The ISP guy told me this, increasingly, becomes and issue, especially in blocks of flats - the ether is  filled with wi-fi networks to the point of saturation. He also said, his choice of channel 13 was just a fluke and it might turn out I'd have to change it again.
So, although the problem is now solved, there still remains this one nagging question: Why did the wi-fi connectivity zonked right after Mountain Lion upgrade?

  • New Mac Mini with Lion Video Problem With Dell E228WFP monitor

Just purchased a new mini Mac 2.3 with Lion pre installed.  I connected to my old Dell E228WFPI monitor via the Mini Display to VGA adapter.  The mini mac worked fine for an hour until I put it to sleep.  It would not rewake.  After rebute the gray screen and apple logo appear with clock, but after clock screen to black and monitor goes to power saver mode.  Took unit to apple store twice and could not resolve problem by changing resolution or other methiods.  Finally, we learned that the system works fine using Belkin HDMI to DVI cable.  This Dell Monitor had DVI connector.  Hope this helps...

How can a computer that's been turned off (and I mean completely OFF) get a network request? Only a sleeping computer should react to such a request. If you're sure you shut down (Apple Menu, Shut Down), then only an internal power supply or logic board problem should cause this. The only way it could be software is if Lion is not shutting down the computer but is instead putting it to sleep. Is it a new Mac Mini? If so, you should have it replaced or repaired.

  • Another Lion X Problem

No video via HDMI port after install of Lion X and reboot. Only works via Mini Display port then everything OK. Did an update and same happened. Had to buy a Mini Display lead for future updates just in case. ':(

The first problem I see is that you are using the M-Powered version. That version only works with M-Audio interfaces. So you will need the regular Pro Tools version that will work with the Digideign and Avid Mbox series interfaces. Pro Tools never corrected the fact that because it says M-Powered it means it works with Mbox. Pretty stupid mistake. M-Powered for M-Audio and not Mbox? You can see why the confusion.
Second, make sure you install the program without the Mbox being connected. Make sure you read the installing procedure in the manual. Also you'll need to install a couple of drivers and assign midi mapping to your interface.
The best set-up will be running the PT program on your internal drive and recording straight to an external Firewire hard drive. Do not even bother using a USB hard drive. USB although technically faster than Firewire, it is severely more inconsistent in data transfer than the Firewire connection. This is where so many recording enthusiasts that don't know the in and outs of USB versus Firewire connections. Always use Firewire for your drives.
When recording or mixing you will need to make adjustments with memory and buffer size. Record at low and mix and high buffers. Also, disconnect from the internet and turn off your antivirus program. It ***** up needed cpu power. Also turn off bluetooth and wifi and if you can use a wired mouse (on PC's is great if you can use the mouse port rather than USB connection for the mouse. Try to only have your Mbox and your iLok connected. You don't want anything else connected except maybe your USB mouse. And don't use any multiple USB hubs. The Mbix must be connected directly into a USB computer port by itself!
Try thsese and you should see that you'll Pro Tools will run flawlessly.

  • 10.7.1 Audio over HDMI Problem

    Hi All,
Here is a breif history of my problems with audio over HDMI. From 10.6.3 to 10.6.7 everything was working great. I have a mid 2010 i7 iMac hooked up via HDMI to a Marantz receiver which is in turn hooked up to a Panny TV. Everything worked as it should, audio went out to the receiver and video to the TV. Then the upgrade to 10.6.8 began the trouble. On the Marantz, I have a visual representation of the audio input. The unit showed that the audio was intermittently "flashing out". That was confirmed while listening to the output of the iMac via the Marantz. The image to the Panny was solid. I tried a variety of fixes (grabbing system files from 10.6.7, PRAM reset, etc.) all to no avail. So I reverted back to 10.6.7. Recently I tried again. Upgraded to 10.6.8 and applied the supplimental update that was supposed to fix the audio over HDMI issue. No good there either. I got the same audio dropping out problem. So I figured I'd go all out and try to upgrade to Lion. The upgrade went smoothly but the problem has morphed a bit. Now when the Marantz is on the iMac input, the iMac doesn't output audio or video ver HDMI. The moment I switch to another input on the Marantz (DVD for example) the iMac senses a switch and outputs audio and video. (At least that is what Display and Sound preferences indicate, as I'm not on the correct input on the receiver, I have no way to verify that anything is actually happening). So I'm back to square one. Do I downgrade back to 10.6.7? Any opinions or similar experiences out there? TIA!!

If anyone's curious, I seemed to have solved the problem the other night. I simply switched the HDMI input on the receiver. Previously it was going into the "game" HDMI input, and I switched it to the "DVD" HDMI input. I'm not really sure why that made a difference. As I mentioned before, all was fine under 10.6.7. Perhaps under 10.6.8 and later, Apple changed the HDCP and the Marantz can only make sense out of it on a "traditional video input" (ie DVD). That's the only explanation I can come up with. Oh well, all's well that end's well I guess.
    Thanks.

  • Lion video problem, solved, facepalm moment

I have read so much about video playback problems in Lion. I had it on my expensive new Mac Mini and was dumbfounded by the nauseating motion presented when playing video on my high-end television.
After hours of frustration, I had a "Well, duh!" moment. It was the second display I had plugged in to the HDMI port. I don't know if there's a solution to that problem or not, but it was causing the primary display's jittery, stilted motion. I now control the mini via my MBP using VNC, and the video is all but flawless.
I thought I'd share this in case others were unaware this is the root of their problem. Wether a solution exists that allows one to have two monitors attached and smooth video playback is unknown to me.

I have the same problems like in the 2nd post. I also get them, when i use Eclipse oder iTunes. So it doesn't depends on the application you use in the moment.
I think it is a OS problem. My temperatures are at a normal level when the artifacts appear. I hope 10.7.3. will fix it. The issues also disappears when i refresh the website for example.
I look forward to a fix. It didn't happend when i used Snow Leopard...
