Lion - how can I share files with another account on same computer

Lion has dropped public files and airdrop only works over wifi.  How do I share files between two accounts on same computer?

I found and turned on "system preferences  / file sharing"  but also had to go to Finder preferences and select show "Hard Disks" to be able to see other users public folder.

  • HT3819 how can i share itunes with users on the same computer?

My husband and I both have separate user profiles on our Mac.  Is there a way we can access all the music files from our itunes between the two profiles?

I puzzled this out a while back. Lets see if i can at least point you in the right direction.
From the Admin account open System Prefrences>Sharing
on the left there is a check box for "file Sharing" check this box.
to the right you can add folders, add "iTunes Media"
then you can add Users. add the users that can share that folder.
then open the other account that wants to share that folder.
open their iTunes>Prefrences>Advanced. Uncheck the box that says "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library"
then open Finder and the shared iTunes Media folder should be on the left... (fingers crossed)
the only problem is that any time you add media to the admin account, you have to go into the other account and add it to that itunes.
hassle, but it's what i do.
    Good Luck

  • Sharing address book with another account on same computer

How do you simply share the Lion 10.7.1 address book with another user account on the same computer?

    miniman,
I just double checked on my laptop that I share the music files with.
When I did the steps from the above post, my music showed up just fine.
The other account was blank as I didn't have any music in there anyway.
All I had to do after the steps above was to "Add to Library" under the "File" menu. I then selected the entire "iTunes Music" folder in the shared library and added all the songs to it... Now you would not have to add all the songs if the other account didn't want them all.... So, you could be selective.
Bottom Line.... It does work and then you only have one copy of the "iTunes Music" folder on the one hard drive... No duplicates....
I did NOT have to have the box checked that said "Copy files to iTunes Music folder"..........

  • How can ipad share files with windows pc?

Can the iPad be connected to a Windows 7 PC and used to share files between Word and Pages?

Word files can be opened and edited in Pages on the iPad and you can send the files to the iPad via email, by using a service like DropBox or by using iOS file sharing. This will explain how to use file sharing.

You might want to be aware of the fact that some editing features will be lost from the Word files when you open them Pages - fonts will be limited - some formatting issues may arise - Pages on the iPad just doesn't work like Word on a computer.

  • How do I share files with other accounts on mac

Under Lion public folders are hidden?  I turned on sharing, but can't see any public folders so I can share files between accounts on the same computer.  Any ideas.

Simplest way is probably to put copies into the Users/Shared folder.

  • How do you share movies with another account?

My wife and I have separate iTunes accounts, and she wants to be able to see the videos I buy and vice versa. How do you share movies and t.v. shows through home sharing?

One of you creates/owns the calendar on iCloud.com and then they can click the sharing icon (tilted wi-fi circle) and choose "private" put the other person's appleID email address and give View & Edit capability.  Then you should be able to Join the calendar and both make edits/updates to it.

  • How do I share files between user accounts on same MBP

My wife and I both share a MBP and have different logins. We want to be able to access (not just read but also edit) document files in each others Home. From reading the Apple information on sharing files, we can do that by placing them in a Public or Shared folder.  But that only gives a the ability to read, not write the files.  Am I interpreting that correctly?  Or is there a way to do this?

You can transfer the file to your computer, change it, then put it back in the Shared Folder.

  • How do I share files between users on the same computer?

My wife has a MacBook, and I just bought my first iMac.  When I booted it for the first time, it asked me if I wanted to copy preferences from her computer.  I thought that was a great idea.  It took 8 hours to copy everything (this I totally did not expect, but couldn't interrupt), but when it was done, I had all of my fiiles and applications and everything, so that's cool.  Now the problem is the separate user accounts.  I had always used her account on her computer while mine sat idle, for the most part.  Now I want to use my account on my computer but cannot find *any* of my files, unless I switch users and view them on *her* account.  Even when I "search my entire computer" for a file, the Mac acts like the files don't exist.  I turned on file sharing in the sys pref, but that didn't seem to help.  Any ideas?

Mac OS X by design keeps documents and settings owned by one user private from and inaccessible to any other user on the system. This is normal and has always been the case with Mac OS X.
If you want documents accessible from both accounts, the easiest way to accomplish it is to put those documents in the Users/Shared folder. If you want to move your documents from your wife's account to yours, log into her account, move the documents to the Shared folder, then log into your own account and move the documents from the Shared folder to your own Documents folder.
    Regards.

  • How can I share audiobooks with another computer?

My cousin authorized me on her computer to share her audio books.  She downloaded some already but she said I could access her audio books and download others....actually maybe she just copied her books to my computer, but I have some of hers on my iMac.  I have her email and password to do this but I have no idea how to actually do it (I thought I did, but it turns out, I don't).   How do I dowload (or copy) her audio books from her computer which I am authorized on?
Second question is how do I enable her to download/copy books from my audible book list to her computer?  I assume I have to authorize her to access my computer which I think I know how to do using her email and password that she gave me.

She did not download or copy them to a disc....she copied them directly to my computer.  She authorized my computer on her computer.  Then she copied the books directly  from  iTunes on her computer to iTunes on my computer. After that, we synced them to my iPad.
She left me her email and password and said I could now go directly to her audible books and copy others that I wanted just as she had done.    I have no idea how to access her books, though.

  • How should i share file with other devices such as nokia, blackberry and etc using bluetooth

I want to share  files between other deivce such as nokia but couldnt, could u help me tell how can i share files with other devices???

@AKRBTN: Thanks for the reply and info.
That is a solution, but it really isn't viable.
It is sad that apple refuses to support this.
A simple example: Sitting somewhere with no signal and you want to share a file (photo) with your colleague or friend, who happens to be right next to you.
Or even if there is signal and you don't want to be paying fees or data charges.
Or you may be in a rehearsal studio and need to share that very important file and have no time to go outside and get signal and try to send the file, which then everyone else has to go outside and catch the signal and pay fees.
Anyway, I see that this is a dead end with apple, so I guess I will be back to carrying 2 phones around again.
    Peace,
    SB

  • How can I share two differents Itunes accounts in my Apple TV ? I have one and my wife has another account and we want to share both in our apple tv. How can I do this ???

How can I share two differents Itunes accounts in my Apple TV ? I have one and my wife has another account and we want to share both in our apple tv. How can I do this ???

I assume you have different iTunes collections on different PC's, or on different logins on the same PC?  If that's the case then just enable "Home Sharing" in each iTunes using the SAME iTunes username and password as you enabled home sharing on the Apple TV with. The account used for home sharing is NOT the same as the account used to access the iTunes store, so as long as you use the same account (pick one, doesn't matter which) then you should see both of yor iTunes libraries on the Apple TV. Note - each iTunes has ti be running in order for the Apple TV to see the library.
Here's some details on how to do it:

How can i share documents with different users on the same mac?

Shared how? The other users can read the documents or you all can read and write the documents?
The first is easy just place the documents in /Users/Shared anyone can access the files there and the other users will be able to read them.
The second is a bit trickier.
