Lion iCal Can't Open Other Calendars, Outlook Can

Hey folks -
I'm connecting Mail.app, iCal, and Address Book to the corporate Exchange server here at work.  The one bit I can't seem to get to work with any regularity is access other calendars (delegates) in iCal.  I know my NT account can see those calendars because I can look at them and even edit them from within the Mac version of Outlook.  However, when I try to point iCal at them, sometimes I can see them, other times I can't.  And generally when I can see them, they appear read-only.
I'm assuming the Mac version of Outlook is doing something "special" with the Exchange server, but I don't know that for sure.  Any guesses?
Thanks.

You probably need to reinstall iCal as an optional installation from your installation disk. Then download and run the 10.5.6 Combo Update package.

  • Lion iCal:  How to view many calendars, but reminders for only one

I'm in an all MAC office setting.  I havea MacBook Pro 15 with Lion OS.  I get pop up reminders for the seven colleagues whose calendars I have selected.  I only want pop up reminders for my own calendar, but don't see any way to make that happen.  Opening the "REMINDERS" drop down box at the top of the right hand sidebar removes calendar entries from view (not what I want) and has the same functionality as the "Calendars" button at the top left of the iCal window. Any recommendations would be deeply appreciated.

What exactly is the "Location" calendar? Is it an actual .ics calendar? Or is it a list of locations in directory? If it's not actually a calendar, then it won't show up in the Calendar application. If you want to connect to your LDAP server, you can do that, and it will show up in Address Book, but I don't think locations will be seen. I have not confirmed this though.

  • Lion iCal: event hides behind others when overlap

    hey guys,
i just upgraded to lion (perhaps a downgrade actually...), and i'm having some issues with ical already. here's the first:
in previous OS's, if i had overlapping events, i could bring one forward in front of the others by simply clicking on it. in lion, clicking on a background event selects it, but doesn't bring it forward. that makes it really hard to read what it is sometimes, as in the attached examples.
    any workaround?
stay tuned for another issue posted about the new "default calendar" option...

The answer, for now, is here: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1198317
Use Terminal.app to turn on the iCal Debug Menu -
    defaults write com.apple.iCal IncludeDebugMenu 1
Then in iCal go to the debug menu > Top Sekret (sic) > Uncheck "use iPad style event layout."
It is the default setting for iPad users, turned on for some @#^$& reason for even us MacBook users. And then buried in a menu only reachable by getting your fingers dirty.
    Worked for me!

  • Outlook connector - how can I open other users calendars at startup?

    Hello!
How can I open a list of other users calendars at startup (outlook with Oracle outlook connector software installed)?
    Is it possible?
    Regards,
    Konstantin.

    Question:
Were you able to solve this issue? I too would like to have the ability to automatically open other users' calendar when Outlook loads.
I did find one unreliable workaround is this; I am able to add a link of the other users' calendar on the shortcut bar. This way, when a user logs on, s/he can click on the link to get to other's calendars.
However, I say its unreliable because every once in a while, I get the error message "Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Outlook could not access the specified folder location. The entry Id passed in does not refer to a valid object."
To resolve this, I must go back to files -> open -> Other user's folders. Open the calendar before it works agin.

Strange - I just configured 3 users with shared calendars, all running Office 20043/Outlook. This works fine, and all are able to watch each others calendar when the set up a meeting.
To be able to fully read another users calendar, I suppose the calendar owner must grant you rights to modify on behalf of the him?

  • How can my co-worker and I set it up so we can see each others calendar like what is available in Outlook?

One of my co-workers and I work very closely and schedule appointments for one another. In doing so it would really be convenient if I could open up his calendar to see when he would be available and he schedules meetings for us both as well. I know this is availabe in OUtlook and at this is important to us both. Please help?????

To do this you will need a calendar service that is capable of being used with the extension lightning. A very popular solution is Google calendar. the next thing you will need is the lightning add on which can be installed by going to the main menu selecting add-ons then typing lightning into the search bar the first extension should be lightning which when installed will restart Thunderbird and be available by clicking the calendar button beside the close button near the top of the screen. then all you have to do is save the ical file the Google calendar/ other calendar gives you. then open the main menu again hover over the new message button and to one side a calendar button will appear click that and a box will appear. click the bullet that says "on the network" and click the next button. there will be a list and you will be able to select the type that says ical. once done it should prompt you for the ical file you saved. when you select it it should import your calendars and update when your friend updates their calendar. there are add-ons that make this slightly simpler but that is the default way of doing this with any calendar service.

  • Connector for outlook - open other user's calendars

    Hello!
Is it possible to save in outlook(with connector, R2) information about opened other users calendars?
If I select from menu "File/Open/Other users"
calendars are opened for current outlook session and not saved for the next outlook run.
In Exchange this is normally done from Control Panel/...
Is this function available in some different view or I must use macro recorder?
    Regards,
    Konstantin Kunshchikov.

You can go in the System Preferences/Mail, Contacts & Calendars. There you can set up an Microsoft Exchange, gmail... account. It will appear in your Mail application after you set it up from there. You will also see them separately on the sidebar in mail.

  • Lion iCal client can't read SLS wiki calendar?

Anyone else running Snow Leopard Server (10.6.8) having issues with the new Lion iCal client (v5.0) not seeing a wiki/group calendar? I've got the server path on the Lion client on a new MacBook Air exactly the same as that of the Snow Leopard client (v4.0.4) on my Mac Pro: /principals/__uids__/wiki-groupname
The Mac Pro is working fine with this setup, only difference is the client OS/client iCal version.
iCal server logs don't even show a hit from the Lion client when I refresh the client calendar, while it does show a hit from the Snow Leopard client when I refresh it.

    While the behavior you describe
(...every so often the Lion iCal client will forget the group wiki path and it seems to revert to the default ("/principals/__uids__/many hex characters"). I then have to go back in and restore the group wiki path...)
is not ideal, I can't even get it to remember it once. Restart iCal server, restart iCal client, restart MacBook Pro with client...it keeps reverting back to the hex address.
    You mention something about
...this was a preferences problem with Lion iCal in the client...
    and
...I cleaned all the individual calendar files out of the Library folder...
Can you be more specific? I tried digging through the library files, looking for ones associated with the URL of the SLS Wiki Calendar, but that did not seem to help.
    Thanks!

Did you buy your machine second-hand? That's really the only way you would have to purchase OS X 10.8.x from the App Store... but, yes, if you have a USB thumb drive with a bootable installer (such as made with Lion DiskMaker) you can boot from that and reinstall OS X.

in ical I just added new calendars to a pre-existing calendar group, I can make events with these calendars, but not reminders, any suggestions?

    Hi,
Lion has changed the way reminders (todos as was) work. They now seem to need to be in a seperate calendar.
In iCal open the File menu and select New Reminder List... and select where to put it.
    Best wishes

  • In iCal can't assign .ICS calendar event to non-"on my mac" calendars

In apple mail, I click on the the .ICS file [sent by windows outlook user] and can see that it is added into iCal. Great, as expected.
However, if I right click on this event, under "calendars" I can only assign it to either "home" or "work" i.e. those same calendars that show up under the "on my mac" section, top left of iCal - no other calendars show up
When I select different events already in the calendar (and not added using .ICS files), I can see more calendars, namely those added from gmail
    e.g. [email protected]
            = vacation
            = work
            = training
          [email protected]
           = bookings
           = vacation
these are the same ones which appear under the 'on my mac' section
How can I assign this .ICS event to one of my gmail calendars?
anyone know how to fix this?

Sounds like a failed HD. Get another HD, install it, reinstall the OS, upgrade to Lion, and then restore the TM backup.

  • Why do I get "iCal can't read this calendar file. No events have been added to your iCal calendar." when I am trying to sync an Apple Workshop appointment?

I made a reservation for an Apple store workshop, but when I try to open the download in iCal (Lion) , I keep getting an "iCal cannot read this calendar file." message.  Very frustrating.  Any insights would be appreciated.

    Greetings,
What version of the Mac OS and what version of iCal are you running?
Are you using MobileMe calendars (or any other server based calendars like Google) in your iCal?
While you answer those questions you can try the following troubleshooting:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

  • ICal can't log in now in MacOS Lion

I have been using iCal to see my work calendar (a CalDAV server stbeehive.oracle.com) in MacOS X 10.6.8 for a long time.  After upgrading to MacOS Lion, I get the following error
"iCal can't log in to your "[email protected]" account because your password may be incorrect.  The password may have been entered incorrectly."
I have entered the correct password many times.  I have successfully logged into my work email account with the same password in the Mail program, but for some reason I can't log in to the CalDAV server with the same password.  I can access the calendar with the same password on my iOS5 devices (iPads and iPhones).
    Any ideas for a workaround?

    This worked for me.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4000?viewlocale=en_US
Specifically...it's will give you a scary screen saying everything on your machine will be deleted, but I jumped right into it and said "bring it".  worked.
Turn iCloud Calendar off and back on
    Quit iCal.
Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu and click iCloud.
Remove the checkmark in the checkbox next to Calendars.
Close System Preferences and wait about a minute.
Open System Preferences and choose iCloud.
Replace the checkmark next to Calendars.
    Close System Preferences.
Open iCal and test to see if the issue has been resolved.

  • How can I make the Lion iCal display more readable?

How can I make the Lion iCal display more readable?

    I'm wondering the same thing.
Under Lion, my calendars' color coding is next to useless because they're suddenly so muted.
Previously I could easily pick out which events belonged to which calendar without effort. Now, all the colors are so light as to be nearly indisinguishable; I must toggle calendars off and on to highlight a calendar's events.
