Lion, ICloud and syncing

Hi, I just bought and Iphone today and want to sync from my Macbook all my contacts, calendar, etc.  It seems I can do this all through ICloud but I need OS Lion.  I have 10.6.8, which I guess is Snow Leopard.  When I went to the Apple website to buy Lion, it is only previewing Mountain Lion.  So, can I still get Lion or is there another way to sync until Mountain Lion comes out.  Thanks.

1. Do you have an iPhone? If so, make sure your software is up to date, then go into the Settings App, scroll down to iCloud, and sign in with your Apple ID. Make sure you have checked off all the services you want to sync with the cloud. You're now good to go with your phone.
On your computer after the install, go into System Preferences > iCloud, and sign in there as well, and check off all the aforementioned services. Now, everything should sync between your device(s) and your computer.
2. I use Time Machine and have never had a problem with it, but I would also recommend just plain old copy+pasting important folders from your computer to an External HDD. That way, if something should happen to your Time Machine backup, you still have important files.

  • HT1338 Help with needing to be able to set up icloud and sync itunes with iphone 4s

Can and do I need to download OS X Mountain lion to support me to be able to use Icloud for my mac and iphone 4s and to sync other stuff up to it? I currently am running on a Mac OS X 10.6.7 wtih 4GB and it says I need 10.6.8 to to icloud and sync my itunes to my phone.  What do you suggest? Is it possible to put OS X Mountain lion on my computer with its current state?

As your Mac should run Snow Leopard provided it has at least 1GB memory, that would be a good deal easier and very much cheaper than trying to find a 10.5 install disc.
Snow Leopard costs $30 approx from the online Apple store (£26 if you're in UK)
You'll need to update Tiger to 10.4.11 with the combo installer first (unless you're just erasing the disc and starting fresh) You can then update SL from 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 with its combo installer.
For comparison, 10.5 Leopard is currently running about $130 from Apple (if still available) and more on Amazon etc.

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

  • How to set up icloud and sync contacts on iphone?

I'm trying to help out my builder, who is a friend and occasional client of my business.
He has no decent way of keeping all his contacts organized, many are on his iphone, and others on a lot of yellow sticky notes.  He wants to set up his contact list so he has clients, vendors, sub contrators, etc.
I have my contact list on my iMac set up with business, friends so forth.
The builder has an iPhone 4s I think (maybe 5, I'll check if it makes a difference).  He told  me he backs up his phone now and then with iTunes on his PC. He rarely uses his PC and really just wants them on his iPhone and iCloud (so I can access them and keep his contacts up to date).
He has about 400 contacts in his iPhone.  I want to add all those yellow sticky notes to his contact list on his icloud (which he just signed up for and has never used).
what is the best way for me to get his contacts from his iphone into icloud and than set the whole thing up so when I add new contact to his address book in icloud they turn up on his phone?
I've been googling this and reading online answers for an hour but I'm now more confused then I was.
    Thanks for any help.
    Susan

It depends on where is contacts are on his phone.  If they are stored locally in the "On My iPHone" account, all he would need to do is go to Settings>iCloud, sign in with his Apple ID to create his account (or sign in with an existing iCloud ID if he already has one) and turn Contact On.  They will then upload to his iCloud account.
If they are being synced with an external service such as Gmail, Yahoo, an exchange account, etc., they will have to be copied to his iCloud account in order to sync them with iCloud.
Unless you already know, have him open the contacts app on his phone and tap Groups (if he has any contact groups).  Does he have any non-iCloud accounts listed, such as On My iPhone, Gmail, Yahoo or an exchange account?  Also have himego to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section).  Does he have the Default Account setting in the Contacts section, and if so, what is selected as his default account?

  • HT1386 iCloud and syncing with iPod

I purchased iCloud to use as a back up for my iPod music library.  Now I can no longer access my music.  My music is in my computer library but when I try syncing it to my phone, only the titles show up. When I click on a song, it is no longer highlighted and will not play.  Maybe I misunderstood iCloud and how it works.  I didn't want to actually store all my music and have to have Wi-Fi available to play it. That would not be possible if you are traveling in a car with no access to Wi-Fi.  I thought iCloud would just back up my music in case my computer crashed.
Anyone know how I can get my music to play on my iPod now?

  • Belatedly upgraded to iTunes 11; iCloud and syncing issues with iPod

There are now a bunch of tracks in my library listed as iCloud tracks; confusingly, some are duplicates of other tracks, and some are not. Also, with no other change than the iTunes upgrade, it's telling me that I'm way over the limit and can't sync my library to my iPod. I'm sure this is simple but I can't figure it out. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    diesel vdub, i use 11.1.1
solved the issue today. first sync with itunes, so all the stiff you bought on the mobile will be backuped.
    1. uncheck sync music in itunes and sync. all the music will be erased from mobile device
    2. check music player on the mobile device. just the unwanted songs will still be there
    3. go on the iphone to settings, general, usage, music player. there is just a few mb from the remaining unwanted songs. swipeleft and erase the content. switch iphone off and on again
    4. repeat step 2. there will be no data. otherwise repeat step 3
    5. check sync music in itunes and sync. all the music will be back again but not the unwanted songs.

  • Outlook 2011 on my iMac crashing after upgrading iPad with iCloud and syncing

Plugged in my iPad to iMac.  It asked to upgrade iPad to 5.0.1.  Install seemed to go fine. I then synced calendars and contacts thru iTunes.  When I later restarted iMac (Snow Leopard 10.6.8) Outlook 2011 crashed as soon as messages window opened.  Other Office products-Word and Excel still work fine.
I Time Machined my Database-same crash.  Time machined the entire Outlook application-same crash.
Reinstalled Outlook application from my original Office DVD.  Now get a "Microsoft Office cannot be opened because of a problem" error message with no attempt to open program.
    Any suggestions out there?

It isn't possible unless your Mac is running OS X 10.7.5 (Lion) or higher.  Also, you cannot sync iCloud contacts and calendars with Outlook 2011 for Mac, it that's what you have.  It will only sync these with the built-in OS X contacts and calendars apps.  (It will sync contacts and calendars with Outlook 2007 or higher for Windows.)

  • Can I use iCloud and sync with my computer also?

iCloud sounds promising BUT just to be safe, in addition to using iCloud can I continue to back-up via my computer & iTunes also?
    Thanks in advance... Bob

Yes, you can sync contact and calendar information with iCloud if you're running Windows 7 or OS X Lion. You can back up you phone to iCloud or to your computer, but not both at the same time.

  • ICloud and Syncing Issues (Couldn't find in other threads)

I have been reading through a ton of threads asking similar questions, but have not found one exactly like mine so I am hoping for some insight here. First off we have an iMac, 2 macbooks, two iPhones, an iPod Touch, and several other iPods too. We have switched to iCloud.
In my family we have a joint account and two individual accounts.  I use my individual account for everything (iTunes, Cals, Contacts,...) and my husband has a .yahoo.com account he uses for iTunes and then he uses his individual account for everything else (Cals, Contacts,...).  Several things we want to accomplish and have been trying to without total luck:
1: Enjoy the same music, apps, tv shows... on ONE iTunes account, BUT be able to sync our iPhones & iPods to our own tastes
    2. We want to share an address book over all of our accounts. How can we make them all the same? I don't think I can sync different things to different accounts like contacts using joint email and then email using individual account IDs and iTunes with yet another? So CONFUSING!
    3. I also use a PC (blah) at work and use Outlook for email, calendar and contacts. I would like to import a "work" contact list into the address book that my husand doesn't have to look at since it ill mean nothing to him.
    4. I use google calendar and would like to have it sync to iCal and Outlook without creating a million duplicate events.
We have different IDs, which I have learned that we will not be able to merge IDs due to big music companies, but we want some fluidity between our accounts which is good for them, but bad for families.
Anyway I know this is a lot of questons, but I am hoping for some insight.
Also I thought iTunes matches was supposed to release at the end of October????

Hi, here is how to remove it by yourself...

Script that I create which, will help you remove it ..... (Let me know using the contact at that site.)
    http://goo.gl/rGV62
    What is does.
Depending on the version it just creates a bunch of random fake notification and claims your infected. If you keep getting it then most likely you have Allow popups and "Open Safe files" in safari on. The only damage is if you give the criminals that created it your Credit Card.
It is changing so it depend on the version but these two links should help.

  • ICloud and sync

I've an iMac and MacBook Pro 17" both running ML 10.8.3. The contact in the iMac sync with icloud which also sync with my iPhone 5 but the MacBook does not sync with them. The icloud setting al three devices are the same. I've checked everything and all the rlated discussion groups without success.
    Thanks for all the help.

Have you tried to delete and re-add the iCloud account on the MacBook Pro? Sometimes this helps.

  • ICloud and syncing multiple devices

I have been using iMail, iCal, and Address Book on my MacBook Pro running OSx 10.7.5.  I use iCloud to make sure that my devices (iPhone, iPad, and Macbook Pro) synchronize so that if I send/receive an email, enter a calendar event or a contact in one device - it transfers over to the others via iCloud.  This system has worked flawlessly.
My issue is that I now want to use Microsoft Outlook on my MacBook Pro, instead of the other three programs.  I have used it at work, know it better and find it easier to use.  I use Google Mail as my email service provider and also use two-step verification due to security concerns.
I have been able to get Outlook to send/receive my email and transfer (sync) everything via iCloud to my other devices, and the email works flawlessly.  I have been able to copy my calendar and contacts to Outlook, but they will not sync - ie when I put a new event in in either iPhone or iPad, it does not show up in Outlook.  I have spent hours scouring the support communities but can not get this to work and it is critical for me.  I will thank anyone(s) in advance who can help me with this - I have heard from others that it is entriely possible and I am convinced there is something else I need to do.  Thank you again...

Unfortunately, you won't be able to sync iCloud contacts and calendars with Outlook 2011 for Mac because Microsoft did not included support for the CalDAV and CardDAV protocols that iCloud uses to sync them.  See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2648915.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.
First check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi)
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

You need to go to System Preferences (this may be called Settings in Mountain LIon)>iCloud and sign out. Then sign in with the new ID.

I have not been able to sync my mail with iCloud on my MacBookPro (Lion OS).  Everything else has been syncing fine for the past two months, but when I go to System Pref/iCloud/and try to check Mail, it asks me to choose an iCloud email address. When I put in my regular @me.com email, it says that address already exists (of course it does - it's mine!) and wants me to choose another one.  But I want it to sync with my stuff.  What can I do?  I haven't been able to find help anywhere online...  Thanks!

You should have signed in with that address in the first place, but there is a workaround: go to System preferences>Mail, Contacts@ Calendars and add your @me.com address as an account there.

  • After I upgraded to icloud, and then did a regular sync ( I don't have lion yet) everything on my ical is listed double?

I upgraded to icloud on my ipad.  We don't have Lion yet on the Imac, so I did a regular plug in sync.  Now all the items on the calendar on my ipad are listed twice.  I tried to sync again and no change. I can't figure out why this happened.  On my imac the calendar items are listed once.

You can go to Settings > iCloud and turn off syncing to Calendar, Contacts (and to any other application that you don't need to backup or share).  Once you upgrade to Lion, it's easy to turn the iCloud syncing back on (but then stop syncing it over iTunes >Info.
