Lion install keeps overheating my iMac during install

Approx. half way through install, my iMac keeps getting very hot and shutting down. It will restart when cooled, but reboots at the beginning of the install, and then does the same thing. Any ideas?

Resolved with a full cool down.

Quit all other programs and open Disk Utility
Select your "MacintoshHD" drive on the left and indented and click Erase > Erase Free Space > Zero and let it complete.
Also run First Aid > Repair Disk and permisisons.
If Repair disk gives a error, you have a bigger problem, if repair permisisons fixes and completes, even if it fixes the same thing twice if you click it again, it's ok. Apple just changed things.
You should be able to download the file sucessfully this time, if not, take it to another location with better/faster internet.

Should I do a clean install of Mountain Lion on a late 2009 iMac or will I find hardware/driver issues?

I have a late 2009 iMac (2.93 Ghz Intel Core Duo, 4GB of ram, model id is 9.1) running Lion right now. I upgraded it all the way from Leopard using the standard keep-all-your-apps-and-settings way. After looking at the hardware requirements for Mountain Lion (and my success with running Lion) it seems that my good ol' iMac is still capable of running it fairly well. But I don't like the idea of "stacking" upgrade after upgrade (*coughs*, clean freak!). I like the idea of starting out clean this time because so many years of use has filled my mac with a lot of crap I no longer use.
So I would like to know your sane advice, and if there's anything I should check out before attempting this. Especially I'm concerned about hardware/driver related issues like for example: the webcam or speakers no longer working. Also, if there's something I'm overlooking please point it out.

If it wasn't a Mac computer that originally came with either Lion or Mt Lion Pre-Installed by Apple when new you would not be able to connect to the Online Internet Recovery system. It is a Feature of the Mac EFI Firmware system. And it will only install whichever version of the Download only version of OS X that originally came on that system.
My MBP came with Lion Preinstalled. Even if I have Mt Lion installed on the hard drive the Online Internet Recovery system would always point my MBP to the Lion download as that was the original version of OS X that came on my Mac.
No real authentication needed. Since your Mac came with Mt Lion no matter what newer versionof OS X you ever install the OIRS will always point you to Mt Lion and ONLY Mt Lion.
It is something different, but not completely different, from the built in Recovery HD partition on the internal drive.
No worries as during the install of MT Lion on your SSD the installer will Recreate the Mt Lion Recovery HD partition on your SSD.

I've been having the same issue, but have just discovered something on my own that hasn't been pointed out in any of the forums I've visited. In what I thought would be a vain attempt to help myself, I went to System Preferences, Users & Groups, and then clicked on Login Items. I discovered that one of the Items that was listed to open automatically upon login was iTunes Helper and that there was an exclamation point beside it indicating that it was incompatible. I simply deleted that item and now I don't have the situation you described and my wireless is connected. Hope this helps!

I'd be VERY surprised if your machine was not shipping with Lion installed. However even if it doesn't when you initally install Lion it will launch into Setup Assistant, if you follow the prompts it will ask if you are migrating from another machine. You can use Pondini's Lion Setup Assistant tips for help, look for the section(s) on MS Windows migration. Also I would strongly recommend bookmarking and studying the following sites:

In closing remember you have 90 days of free telephone support with AppleCare. If you run into trouble they will be happy to assist or if you have an Apple Store in your area you can book an appointment with a Genius and they can usually help you out.

You're ignoring context. On the old Apple Discussion Groups I never posted replies like that, instead giving people relatively detailed answers. The new Apple Support Communities made things worse by introducing certain inefficiencies. Then came Lion. The flood of messages that came with Lion required a painful choice for any of the people who had been helping here: (1) Give quality responses to a few questions and ignore the rest. After I installed Mountain Lion on my 2009 iMac, it will power off after I don't use it a while. It used to just go to sleep, I'd shake the mouse, and it would come back up. Now it powers off and I have to power it back up every time.
My Macbook has NOT had this problem since Mountain Lion install. It is fine.

Do these resets to clear errant commands:
SMC RESET

Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
PRAM RESET
Zap the PRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

What kind of noise?
The only things I can think of that make noise are fans and disks. Fans usually will not cause the computer to shutdown as you describe. My guess is your disk drive died. I hope you made a backup prior to start the ungrade.

You need a "Core 2 Duo" for lion, and I'm guessing you only have a "Core Duo" My wife's macbook is also a "Core Duo" and has Snow Leapord, but cannot install Lion.....

No you will need to purchase the upgrade. However if you own other Macs you want to upgrade once you have purchased Lion then you can upgrade the additional machines. Of course the additional machines must be using the same Apple ID. As long as the additional machine's meet the minimum system requirements listed below you are all set.
General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space

I can definitely how frustrating it must be to not be able to take pictures or even view pictures that have already been taken with your LG Dare.
Since this problem has started, have you tried to either:
a.) put that memory card in an alternate phone to see if the pictures can be viewed on there
b.) use a card reader/adapter in a computer to see if the pictures can be viewed on the computer
c.) take the memory card out of the phone and then try to take a picture?
What I am trying to determine is which of the 2 is defective (phone or memory card)
If you are able to view pictures in another phone, or on the computer , then you may have a bad card. If that is the case, you can transfer the pictures to the computer and then format the memory card by

Also, in order to access PixPlace, log into your MyVerizon account, at the top, you should see "Messaging" go down to "Manage your photo albums" once there, you should see "My Media", however, if you have already received a message advising you that your album would be deleted if you haven't logged on in more than 180 days, all pictures have then most definitely been deleted. Again, we do send warning messages once the online album hasn't been accessed in 150, 175, 180 days respectively prior to deletion.

Selling lion installed imac

I have an iMac I am about to sell, it has lion installed and so far I have been unable to perform an erase and install to put the iMac back to a clean beginning for the new owner, I have tried to do this by reverting back to Snow Leopard but booting from the CD gets no where, then drive spins up apple logo appears then the CD drive goes to sleep, left it for three hours and nothing happened.
How do I clear the iMac and make it saleable?
Lion only reinstalls around the existing system, and it's tied to my iTunes account, this needs to be clear for the next user.

There are two types of Lion licenses:
1. licenses tied to one mac (hardware linked license)
2. licenses tied to one Apple ID (person linked license)
1. transfers, 2. does not.
So the person buying the mac would be "without a paddle" if you hadn't prepared them that they might need to pay to reinstall their OS if their mac ever crashes or gets a new hard drive.
Sell the Mac with the Leopard and Snow Leopard Install discs but without Lion (installed) to save yourself and the buyer from trouble.

Installing Lion, Office 2011 on both imac and macbook air

I installed Lion on my imac and found my old version of Microsoft Office unsupported. I have not yet changed my operating system on my mac air, but need to upgrade that also in the immediate future to support other processes and products. At this point, I assume I can upgrade the old copy of Office I have on the mac air to Office 2011 and then transfer Lion to the mac air. Or, do I need to get Lion installed on the mac air first and then download Office 2011. Do both methods, require buying two copies of Office? At this point, I dont mind spending the money for two copies to make the whole process easier.
I am globally confused after trying to read online about this, but am mostly unclear about which process to do first.
